*Riding with AI towards Mission-Critical Communications and Computing at
the Edge(AIMCOM2, https://icnp20.cs.ucr.edu/aimcom2.html
<https://icnp20.cs.ucr.edu/aimcom2.html>) *
*Aim and Scope*
The ever-growing mission-critical services, like the Internet of vehicles,
AR/VR and haptic communications, have sprung recently and required the
communications and computing framework to be more reliable, efficient and
secure. However, it raises severe challenges due to the spatial and/or
temporal diversity of the entities possibly involved in communications and
computing, such as the possibly high mobility of nodes, the varying and
uneven-distributed number of devices, and the limitations of propagation
media and other resources. To address these challenges, one potential
solution is to provision at the edge (i.e., in proximity of end devices),
where the demands from end devices can be served locally in real-time,
rather than being served by the remote cloud through latency-plagued core
networks. But the occurrence of mobile edge poses many new challenges in
terms of deployment, management and coordination of the heterogeneous and
distributed resources.
The artificial intelligence (AI) for mission-critical communications and
computing is expected to fundamentally address these increasing challenges.
Various issues like edge intelligence, AI-assisted PHY design, AI-based
resource management are being explosively explored to shorten the
transmission latency. Approaches like federated learning and distributed
learning are being heavily investigated for superior performance of
communications and computing at the edge as well. Faced with security
concerns, the interpretability of AI in the context of communications and
networks is also a fast-developing hot topic.
This workshop will explore the state-of-the-art theory and the systems
research in this field. We invite researchers to contribute their novel
research results that advance the development of mission-critical
communications and computations at the edge.
*Topic of Interests*
This workshop will explore the state-of-the-art theory and the systems
research in AI-powered mission-critical communications, networking and
computing. Topics of interests include, but not limited to,
- Edge intelligence for mission-critical communications and networking
- AI-assisted PHY design for mission-critical communications
- AI-based resource management for mission-critical communications and
computing
- Trustworthy AI for mission-critical communications and networks
- Network slicing for mission-critical service provisioning
- Distributed Learning for mission-critical computing
- Evolutionary models for mission-critical communications and computing
- Learning theory for mission-critical communications and computing
- Age of information theory and algorithm for mission-critical

review for any other publication. Submissions must be full papers, at most
12 single-spaced 8.5” x 11” pages with 9-pt font size in two-column format,
including figures and tables. As for references, submissions may include as
many pages as needed. All submissions must use the LaTeX (preferred) or
Word styles found here(http://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template
<https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-te…>).
LaTeX submissions should use the acmart.cls template (sigconf option), with
the default 9-pt font. This format will be used also for the camera-ready
version of accepted papers. Authors must make a good faith effort to
anonymize their submissions. Papers that do not meet the size, formatting,
and anonymization requirements will not be reviewed. We require each paper

Call for papers
IEEE Transaction on Network Science and Engineering, Special Issue on
"Advanced Networking Technologies in the Battle Against the Outbreak of
Epidemic Diseases".
Deadline: 1 August 2020
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
At present, COVID-19 is a major global public health challenge. Worse, this
epidemic could last for 2 years, according to US experts. To address it,
scientific research institutions attempt to actively leveraged networking
technologies to fight the epidemic disease, which have effectively improved
the efficiency of epidemic monitoring, virus tracking, prevention, control
and treatment, and resource allocation. For example, in order to make full
use of the resources of medical experts, the remote consultation system,
supporting live-streaming video and telemedicine by 5G, cloud computing,
blockchain and other networking-related technologies, has been quickly
implemented in many hospitals all over the word.
Although networking technologies have played an important role in the
epidemic prevention and control, new challenges arise when billions of
people around the world have been ordered to stay at home to help curb the
epidemic disease. As the virus spread, the networking demand for HD video
conferencing and online teaching has skyrocketed. Moreover, many streaming
services — like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube, have reduced the
quality of their streams to reduce strain on the Internet. Therefore, more
advanced networking technologies should be deeply investigated and
implemented to help us with fighting COVID-19.
This special issue aims to explore recent advances and disseminate
state-of-the-art research on advanced networking technologies for epidemic
monitoring, virus tracking, prevention, control and treatment, and resource
allocation. The topics of interest for this special issue include, but are
not limited to:

Unlike existing driving and transportation frameworks, new paradigm shifts
and vertical technological revolution in vehicular services have emerged
toward unmanned driving, automated transportation, and connected and
autonomous vehicles (CAV). In addition to equipping with advanced
environmental sensing/reasoning apparatuses (e.g., high definition (HD)
cameras, three-divisional (3D) panorama videos, point-cloud scanners, or
light detection and ranging (LiDAR) scanners) to facilitate autonomous
driving, the next-generation driving vehicles may also rely on mobile
network infrastructures to achieve ubiquitous and prompt information
exchanges. For example, all-optical indicators (such as turn signals and
brake light on a vehicle, and traffic lights on intersections) may be
replaced by wireless signals through device-to-device (D2D) transmissions.
Vehicles may also exchange their perception data or maneuver plans with
other vehicles, or acquire information (such as 3D scenes at interactions)
from remote cloud servers or road-site units (RSUs) though mobile networks.
To align with this trend, 3GPP has released the service requirements to
sustain the next-generation vehicle-to-everything (V2X) applications in
June 2018, which include 28 use cases to involve advanced driving, remote
control, vehicle platooning and extended sensors. To support all these use
cases, the service requirements of V2X may include extremely high
throughput (for 3D panorama videos or point-cloud data), low latency
(maneuver data for platooning), high reliability (control signals for
remote driving), aperiodic transmissions (for emergency trajectory
alignment), and high connection density. Since August 2018, 3GPP has
launched the normative works of New Radio (NR) V2X and enhanced
ultra-reliable and low latency communication (eURLLC) in 3GPP Release 16.
To satisfy these unprecedented V2X requirements, several new features will
be introduced in both academic research and industrial practice, including
new system architecture of V2X (e.g., mobile edge computing, cloud/fog
networks, 3GPP local area data network, network slicing, software-defined
network, etc.), new radio access schemes (e.g., millimeter-wave access,
sidelink transmissions, URLLC, massive connections), harmonization among
various technologies (e.g., point-cloud compression, multi-view video, 3D
vision, environmental perception/cognition, machine learning and artificial
intelligent), and new designs for security. The Internet of Things
evolution has given birth to several new groundbreaking applications, such
as the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), smart cities, and cyber-physical systems
(CPS). The proliferation of IoV-based applications magnifies the importance
and irreplaceability of IoV. Considering the dynamic nature of entities in
the IoV, there are a series of challenges including security, privacy,
decentralization, trust management, and so on. For efficient decision
making, in IoVs, we use Vehicle to Vehicle/Others (V2V/V2X) communication
to complement on-board sensor inputs and provide better services. A key
concern when relying on sensor data is vulnerable to data. Malicious actors
tend to inject false data or alter communication among normal vehicles.
The objective of this workshop is to bring together state-of-the-art
innovations, research activities (both in academia and industry), and the
corresponding standardization impacts of V2X for the next generation
driving paradigm, to understand the inspirations, requirements, and the
promising technical options to boost and enrich activities in the area of
V2X. This workshop will also provide a forum for exchanging ideas and
networking experts/researchers/engineers/students involved in the emerging
field of V2X. We want to collate and publish consolidated research results
focusing on analyzing security and privacy threats, applying cutting-edge
technologies to provide secure and privacy-preserving communications in the
relevant fields. Papers may present advances in the theory, design,
implementation, analysis, verification, or empirical evaluation and
measurement of the area.
Topics of interest (include but not limited to)
- Machine learning, artificial intelligence, cognition, and optimization
technologies for V2X and CAV
- Security issues and designs for V2X and CAV
- Mobile edge computing (MEC), cloud/fog networks, 3GPP local area data
network (LADN), network slicing,

The 17th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Ad-Hoc and Smart Systems
(MASS 2020)
https://www.iitr.ac.in/mass2020/
<https://www.iitr.ac.in/mass2020/index.html>
Delhi NCR, India. December 10-13, 2020 (Postponed Due to COVID-19)
*IMPORTANT NOTE:* The IEEE MASS 2020 conference is now moved to December
10-13, 2020 due to COVID-19. The main objective of moving is to increase
the chance of having an onsite conference. The organizers are exploring
contingency plans, such as running it virtually, depending on the situation
in the next few months. However, the conference will be held one way or
another, and the organizers are committed to present a high-quality
technical program in terms of top-notch keynote speakers, competitively
accepted peer-reviewed papers (proceedings published by the IEEE), an
exciting panel, and other associated events like cutting-edge workshops,
poster and demo sessions. If the conference will be held in person,
sufficient measures will be taken to ensure the safety and health of our
research community.
CONFERENCE SCOPE & TRACKS
IEEE MASS 2020 is a premier annual forum for sharing original, novel ideas
in mobile ad-hoc networks and smart systems, defined broadly. As wireless
ad-hoc networks continue to evolve and specialize into a number of
application scenarios and environments, and sensor-based systems and
technologies increasingly permeate our everyday life and become the inner
fabric of the Internet of Things and Cyber Physical Systems, the unfolding
of smart environments such as smart cities, smart farming, smart
healthcare, and smart manufacturing, to name a few, demand integrated
solutions that can make intelligent use of both cloud and edge systems,
while applying machine learning and artificial intelligence tools to handle
their growing complexity and to leverage the vast amount of available
data. Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, the 17th edition of the IEEE
International Conference on Mobile Ad-Hoc and Smart Systems (MASS) will be
held in Delhi NCR, India during October 1-4, 2020, and it aims at bringing
together researchers, developers, and practitioners to address recent
