IPSN 2021 Call for PhD Forum
The 20th ACM/IEEE The International Conference on Information Processing
in Sensor Networks (IPSN 2021)
============================================================================================
May 18-21, 2021, Virtual Event
IPSN 2021 is part of CPS-IoT Week 2021, which brings together five top
conferences: HSCC, ICCPS, IPSN, IoTDI and RTAS.
https://ipsn.acm.org/2021/
============================================================================================
IPSN 2021 will also host a Ph.D. forum on networked sensing and control.
The forum will offer:
- a constructive environment for doctoral students to discuss their ongoing
work towards the Ph.D. with a panel of experienced researchers in the field;
- an opportunity for the participants to initiate a personal network with
both other Ph.D. students and leading research experts, outside of the own
group.
The forum will be structured as a series of short presentations by the
students, followed by individual discussions and feedback. The panelists
will also offer their experience and advice on how to carry out a
successful Ph.D. and start a career as a researcher.
Students in the middle stages of their Ph.D. (no less than six months
after starting, and no less than six months before finishing) are
encouraged to submit a 2-page extended abstract about their research. While
the Ph.D. forum is primarily a venue to present ongoing rather than
completed work, in this abstract, the Ph.D. thesis statement should be
clearly identified including the problem addressed, the contribution
expected to the field, the methodology chosen, the results achieved so far,
and the work planned ahead. The abstract shall also include a short
paragraph with information on how long she has been in the Ph.D. program,
the expected timeline towards graduation, and the name of the
supervisor(s). The student should be the sole author, although
contributions of others (e.g., the advisor) should be acknowledged.
*** Submission Guidelines ***
The scope of the submissions is the same as that listed in the IPSN 2021
Call for Papers. Submissions will be reviewed by the Ph.D. forum committee
to ensure quality, relevance, and potential benefit from attendance to the
forum. Accepted submissions will be published as part of the main
conference proceedings. Submissions must be in PDF format, written in
English, adhere to the IPSN formatting guidelines, following the ACM master
article template, and contain no more than 2 pages including figures,
tables, and references. Submissions must include the student’s name,
affiliation, and email address on the first page. Extended abstract can be
submitted at: https://ipsn21phdforum.hotcrp.com
*** Important Dates ***
Submission Deadline: 10 March 2021 11:59pm AoE
Acceptance Notification: 17 March 2021 11:59pm AoE
Camera-Ready Deadline: 24 March 2021 11:59pm AoE

https://ieee-sensors.org/sensors-journal/sensors-journal-special-issues/
Many services, such as personal navigation, search and rescue, robot and fleet
management, healthcare would greatly benefit from ubiquitous, accurate, robust
and seamless positioning technologies. While mature GNSS solutions exist for
outdoor spaces, more than ten years of research and development of sensing
technologies have not yet led to a widely available offer of generic and
affordable standard solutions for indoors. Nonetheless, year after year the
insight that researchers have offered into indoor localization provides us
with more methods and the array of usable sensors widens with technological
progress. Hybridization of sensors data, smart capture of environmental data,
benchmarking of sensing and positioning technologies are all at the heart of
indoor positioning and indoor navigation innovations.
This Special Issue of the IEEE Sensors Journal is devoted to the presentation
of innovations and improvements in the field of advanced sensors and sensing
technologies for indoor positioning and navigation including theory, design,
modelling, configuration, characterization, sensor data processing, data
analysis, and applications.

Future vehicular networks have become an important component of the next
generation communication technologies such as the 5G, 6G, and beyond. With
the widespread use of automobile and other vehicles, research studies of
future vehicular networks are urgently needed to meet the service
requirements of connected vehicular users pave the way for the future
development of autonomous ecosystems. The future vehicular networks can
become much more challenging than current conventional vehicular systems in
terms of autonomous controls, security, and high mobility, connectivity and
compatibility. With the emergence of new communication technologies and
applications, the important features such as intelligent network
functionalities, large-scale network deployments, and smart integrated
services are greatly in demand.
Recently, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) enabled
distributed intelligence has become a promising approach to address the
aforementioned intelligent data and service challenges in the premise of
large-scale decentralized vehicular networks. Distributed intelligence
exploits the computational capabilities of edge components (e.g., vehicles)
in future vehicular networks. Previously unmanageable network and service
problems under centralized system architectures can be efficiently solved
by applying distributed approaches, e.g., crowd intelligence, multi-agent
learning, and edge computing. Future vehicular networks will benefit from
distributed intelligence. Therefore, it is essential to develop novel
vehicular network techniques enabled by distributed intelligence,
addressing various challenges related to future vehicular networks.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
§ Distributed intelligence theories, frameworks, and algorithms for future
vehicular networks
§ Distributed intelligence for physical layer and infrastructure issues in
future vehicular networks

vehicular networks
§ Distributed and collaborative machine learning for future vehicular networks
§ Distributed data privacy, security, and data persistence approaches in
future vehicular networks
§ Distributed intelligence enabled green and energy-efficient vehicular
networks
§ Market models and network economics in future vehicular networks with
distributed intelligence
§ Simulations, experiments, and testbeds of distributed intelligence for
future vehicular networks
§ Distributed intelligence in automatic driving, traffic engineering, and
other related transportation studies

systems) can be safely, effectively, and widely deployed. Since many of
these challenges will not be able to be addressed without the help of UAV
swarm simulation platforms, experimental testbeds/prototypes, and
experimental evaluations, papers on these topics are especially encouraged.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Communication and networking protocols for UAV swarms
- Resilient communication protocols for multi-agent planning and control
- Delay-tolerant networking for UAVs
- Network topology control for performance optimization (connectivity,
throughput, etc.)
- Wireless localization for UAVs
- Communication architectures and technologies for UAV air-traffic
control
- UAVs in 4G/5G cellular networks
- UAV integration in the urban IoT
- Aerial video streaming for virtual/augmented reality
- Data offloading and mobile edge computing with UAVs
- Spectrum management and interference management techniques for UAV
networks

-----------------------------------------------------------
Future vehicular networks have become an important component of the next
generation communication technologies such as the 5G, 6G, and beyond. With
the widespread use of automobile and other vehicles, research studies of
future vehicular networks are urgently needed to meet the service
requirements of connected vehicular users pave the way for the future
development of autonomous ecosystems.
• Distributed intelligence theories, frameworks, and algorithms for future
vehicular networks
• Distributed intelligence for physical layer and infrastructure issues in
future vehicular networks
