10th-13th July 2022
https://research.protocol.ai/sites/dinps/
Submission site: https://dinps22.hotcrp.com/
IMPORTANT DATES
Submission Deadline: 12 March 2022 (EXTENDED)
Acceptance Notification: 5 April 2022
Camera-ready Deadline: 21st April 2022
CALL FOR PAPERS
With the emergence of the Web3.0 paradigm as well as the increasing
exploration of naturally decentralized computation paradigms as in edge
computing, decentralized systems are becoming increasingly relevant. This
field is thriving thanks to recent technological advances demonstrating the
feasibility of decentralized systems at scale. Existing approaches include
blockchain-based systems as well as systems like the InterPlanetary File
System (IPFS), a peer-to-peer, content-addressable hypermedia protocol that
seeks to connect all computing devices within a single distributed system
of files. IPFS is additionally complemented by Filecoin, a token-based
protocol that supports an incentivized, decentralized storage and delivery
network, among others. These projects are open-source and community-driven
with reference implementations in multiple languages and a global community
of millions of users.
This workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners in the
fields of decentralized systems, peer-to-peer networks, and edge computing.
Now is the time to leverage our expertise and discoveries in this area to
define the future of the decentralized Internet: this includes work on
underlying technologies and protocols, emerging standards, tools and
abstractions (such as the ones provided by IPFS, libp2p and Filecoin), and
also emerging applications and use-cases.
The workshop will consist of a number of different sessions and session
styles that go beyond the traditional presentation-centric workshop. We
seek to foster interaction between participants with hands-on sessions that
will give them first-hand knowledge of how to use IPFS and Filecoin and
interact with these technologies, as well as ecosystem project platforms. A
capstone competition will give attendees the chance to develop open-source
applications and win prizes.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Architectural proposals for the advancement of the state of
decentralized Internet services.
- Decentralized and peer-to-peer protocols and applications
- Edge computing — with emphasis on decentralized solutions for the far
edge and their integration with current Internet architectures
- Design, implementation, and evaluation of decentralized, networked
systems and CDNs
- Socio-economic, legal, and/or regulatory aspects of
content-addressable, permissionless, P2P networks
- Privacy and security of decentralized storage and delivery systems
- Applications that build on top of decentralized network storage and
retrieval protocols
- Measurement studies on decentralized and edge computing infrastructures
- Improvements to the IPFS protocol stack, libp2p, or the Filecoin
storage and (especially) retrieval protocol from a performance, privacy, or
security perspective
- Cross-layer optimization between network- and decentralized
service/application-layer protocols (e.g., consensus, pubsub, etc)
- Pubsub protocol performance and security improvements for
decentralized, blockchain-based systems (e.g., Gossipsub)
The workshop welcomes contributions in the following forms:
- *Work-in-progress papers* (limited to 6 pages) presenting early
findings and visionary protocol development directions.
- *Demos* (limited to 2 pages) showcasing a proof-of-concept prototype.
- *Tutorials* (up to 2 pages description) which will be part of the
hands-on session to demonstrate emerging technologies or applications to
build and deploy decentralized systems. Tutorials are expected to last up
to 45 min.
- *Competition project ideas* (limited to 1 page) to be included in the
3-week post-workshop competition.
Submission guidelines can be found at the workshop's website:

18th IEEE International Conference on Factory Communication Systems (WFCS)
27-29 April 2022, Pavia, Italy (on-line)
wfcs22.unipv.it<http://wfcs22.unipv.it/>
General Co‐Chairs:
Tullio Facchinetti (University of Pavia, Italy)
Lukasz Wisniewski (inIT / TH‐OWL, Germany)
Work in Progress Co‐Chairs:
Mikael Gidlund (Mid Sweden University, Sweden)
Henning Trsek (inIT / TH OWL, Germany)
DESCRIPTION
The Factory Communication research area is becoming increasingly relevant
in last years, with communication playing a fundamental role in many
automation systems. New generation technologies, such as 5G/6G,
WiFi6/WiFi7, TSN, or OPC UA, open the door to a variety of application
possibilities, from general automation to IIoT. On the other hand, due to
the high variety of available communication solutions, and the fact that
different technologies have usually to be combined together in order to
satisfy application requirements, industrial communication systems become
highly complex and heterogenous. This condition creates several new
challenges that need to be tackled to fully exploit the potential of
available communication solutions (including subjects related to network
management, traffic optimization, virtualization, energy efficiency, and
many others).
The 18th edition of WFCS will focus on all forms of communication
supporting automation within factories and in other contexts, especially
considering recent developments. WFCS is the largest IEEE conference that
is especially dedicated to communication for (industrial) automation
systems and aims to provide a forum for researchers, developers and
practitioners to review and discuss recent trends in the area and share
innovative research directions.
The conference, supported by the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES)
and led by the Technical Committee on Factory Automation (TCFA), will be
hosted by the University of Pavia (Italy) in collaboration with the
Institute on Industrial IT (inIT) of the Technische Hochschule OWL in
Lemgo, Germany.
Pavia is located in south‐western Lombardy (northern Italy, 35 kilometers ‐
22 miles ‐ south of Milan). The University of Pavia is one of the world’s
oldest academic institutions, with its foundations existing as early as the
9th Century.
FOCUS
The conference mainly focuses on: Communication Systems and Technologies;
Protocols and Standards for Networked Embedded and Cyber‐Physical Systems;
Real‐time, Safety, Security and Maintenance of Automation Systems and
Networks; applying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to enhance
and Communication Technologies for Industry 4.0; Low‐power and Green
Communication in Industry; recent advances in research domains with similar
communication requirements.
PAPER SUBMISSION
Work‐in‐Progress (WiP) Papers: up to 4 double‐column pages, following the
IEEE conferences
template. Accepted WiP papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
IMPORTANT DATES
WiP submissions:
Deadline: March 10th, 2022
Notifications: March 25th, 2022
Final versions: April 4th, 2022
Work in progress papers
Exchange your ideas at an early stage of the work and discuss recent
results in the community through the work in progress track. These sessions
are intended for presentation of recent ideas and on-going works up to 4
double-column pages, describing research that has not yet produced the
results required for a regular paper, but that due to its novelty and
potential impact deserves to be shared with the community at an early
stage. WIP submissions should be prepared according to the same guidelines
as regular papers, and should be submitted through the appropriate track in
the electronic submission system. Accepted WIP papers will be published in
the conference proceedings.
Authors of accepted WiP paper will give a 5 minute oral presentation at the
WiP sessions, and will also present an A0 poster during the poster sessions.

*Scope*
Connected vehicles and automated vehicles represent different approaches to
improve vehicle safety on the road. The former leverages wireless
communication technologies to enhance mutual awareness among traffic
participants. The latter ramps up individual vehicles’ capability of
perception and control to achieve better decision making in the complex
driving environment. On the surface, the two technologies seem
complementary. Information shared by different traffic entities can be
added to a vehicle’s dynamic map, extending its perception horizon, and
uncovering None-Line-Of-Sight situations which otherwise would not be
available via its own onboard sensors. In return, the vehicle can send what
it observes through onboard sensors, which might help recipients avoid
previously unaware safety hazard. Furthermore, as reported in the
state-of-art research, individual vehicles may navigate themselves more
efficiently with global information gathered from others on the same road,
generating improved driving safety and efficiency.
However, the aforementioned complementary natures of vehicle connectivity
and automation do not assure the completed integration of these
technologies into vehicles and their interactions. There are questions
about the cost, benefits, timeline, performance, hardware/software
requirement and interface design of such an integrated system. Many of
these questions are nontrivial to answer as it needs joint efforts from
numerous technology areas. Fortunately, many scholars and research groups
have started to explore these questions, paving the road for a cohesive
integration of vehicle connectivity with vehicle automation system.
This special issue focuses on the most recent advancements in modeling,
wireless communications, vehicle perception, mapping and localization
technologies, which can improve the collaboration among individual
automated, human-driven, or autonomous vehicles and enable novel vehicular
cooperative applications. The goal is to bring together state-of-art
efforts in this interdisciplinary domain that analyzes and addresses the
challenges in enabling *C*ollaborative *S*ensing, *M*apping and *D*riving
(CSMD).
*Topics of Interests*
1) V2X (e.g., DSRC, LTE V2X, 5G NR V2X), V2N and V2C protocol design,
optimization, testing and evaluation for CSMD
2) Standards related to CSMD, including V2X, V2N and V2C communication,
semantics & ontologies, and IoT.
3) Wireless infrastructure (e.g, Edge Computing) development for CSMD
