SPICES 2023: Call for Papers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2nd Workshop on Security and Privacy in Connected Embedded Systems
(SPICES 2023) -- https://www.tii.ae/workshop/spices
Co-located with EWSN 2023 -- September 25, 2023
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Embedded systems have become pervasive in modern society: from managing the
power grids that allow you to boil the kettle in the morning, to monitoring
your sleep patterns at night. They play a crucial role in facilitating
communication, enabling access to information, and powering the unseen
minutiae of everyday life. Securing these networks and devices is of utmost
importance to ensure the safety and privacy of individuals, businesses, and
governments.
However, despite significant recent progress in recognizing the need for
security in such systems, it is often still an afterthought. Furthermore,
emerging communication technologies such as 6G, cloud computing, and the
inexorable rise of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning present new
security threats and privacy issues that require innovative solutions.
Moreover, unconventional threats and vulnerabilities can circumvent
established security and privacy dogmas, thereby exposing key weaknesses in
critical systems.
The Workshop on Security and Privacy in Connected Embedded Systems (SPICES)
aims to address these challenges and foster interdisciplinary collaboration
to explore innovative solutions for securing wireless and embedded systems.
The workshop provides a platform for researchers, practitioners, and
industry experts to discuss the latest topics and challenges in wireless
and embedded systems security and privacy – not only on how existing
systems should be secured, but exploring important security aspects (or
lack of) in current research trends. We welcome submissions with unusual
takes on existing techniques, proposals for novel security and privacy
solutions, exposure of atypical weaknesses, and the application of
unconventional approaches to solving next-generation wireless security
challenges.
We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to
submit papers (up to 6 pages, double-column) focusing on topics such as:
- Wireless security for cyber-physical systems (e.g., factory automation).
- AI / Machine Learning assisted security and privacy, at the physical,
MAC, or networking layers.
- Generative Adversarial Networks for wireless and embedded security.
- Security protocols for wireless communications and networking.
- RF Jamming attacks and defenses for wireless networks.
- Localization and positioning privacy (GPS, UWB, BLE 5.2, etc.).
- Measurement of embedded computing privacy leakage.
- Privacy enhancing and anonymization techniques in embedded computing.
- Security and privacy techniques in Embedded Computing.
- Side-channel attacks on IoT devices.
- Security and possible weaknesses in 6G cellular networks (3GPP, ETSI,
IEEE, etc.).
- Testbed and experimental platforms for wireless security.
- Vehicular networks security (e.g., drones, automotive, avionics,
autonomous driving).
- Security for UAV swarms (i.e., distributed, highly-mobile systems).
- Communications security in satellite systems.
- Cryptography primitives and lightweight protocols for embedded IoT
devices.
- Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS).
- Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs).

2nd Workshop on IoT-Crowdsensing for Smart Cities
Singapore 3-6 July 2023 - with MDM 2023
Website: https://sites.google.com/view/iotsencity2023
The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is growing at a significant pace and
several services are now built on the data obtained from connected smart
objects. The emerging IoT paradigm with the Big Data paradigm provides the
foundations to extract common knowledge from data made available by humans,
institutions, or smart objects for supporting decision-making. The
paradigms of Crowdsourcing and Mobile Crowdsensing (MCS) have long been
used to seek contributions from a crowd of participants who commit to
performing certain agreed tasks. With the omnipresence of IoT, underpinned
by mobile smart devices, IoT-Crowdsensing (IoT-CS) is gaining increased
interest where smart mobile devices and IoT devices undertake the task of
collecting data about phenomena of interest.
Although fascinating and potentially disruptive, this paradigm inherently
carries a set of technical challenges at various levels, which should be
studied by different research communities: battery efficiency, efficient
participant recruiting, data aggregation and processing, data quality,
incentivization techniques, mobility, application semantics, and privacy to
name some of the hot facets of IoT-CS.
In line with such objectives, this workshop aims to provide a platform for
researchers and practitioners to discuss and share the current and emerging
state-of-the-art, challenges and solutions in IoT-CS specifically targeting
Smart Cities. We solicit original contributions in topics of interest
including, but not limited to, the following:
* Energy efficiency in MCS services and applications
* Protocols enhancement for crowdsensed services
* Social Internet of things
* Big data semantics
* Data science for MCS services
* Environmental Monitoring
* Opportunistic MCS services
* Rewarding mechanism for MCS services
* Fog computing for Collaborative IoT
* Heterogeneous data aggregation
* Machine learning techniques for data aggregation
* Machine learning techniques for data classification
* MCS testbeds and platforms
* NLP techniques for crowdsensed services
* Privacy for crowdsensed data
* User behavior classification from public data
* User activity recognition
* User profiling

Scope:
The popularity of the IoT has grown over the last decade thanks to its
numerous applications and the evolution of micro electronics. Moreover,
with this evolution, the price of IoT components decreased during the last
decade, which made them more accessible and eased their integration in
specific areas. This leads to pioneer IoT applications opening an exciting
path to the world of tomorrow. From these domains, we can note : Satellite

FEATURE TOPIC: Enabling the IoT ecosystem through Embedded Wireless Systems
and Networks
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the latest example of an ecosystem whose
constituent elements promise to be independent, situated, and temporarily
networked to synergically provide advanced cyber–physical functionalities.
Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks play a key role in the IoT scenario
but their engineering poses several challenges from as many viewpoints,
spanning across the whole development stack: at device level, embedded
systems demands to incorporate embedded intelligence for smartness,
