Embedded systems have become pervasive in modern society, from managing the
power grids that allow you to boil the kettle in the morning to monitoring
your sleep patterns at night. They play a crucial role in facilitating
communication, enabling access to information, and powering the unseen
minutiae of everyday life. Securing these networks and devices is of utmost
importance to ensure the safety and privacy of individuals, businesses, and
governments.
However, despite significant recent progress recognizing the need for
security in such systems, it is often still an afterthought. Furthermore,
emerging communication technologies such as 6G, cloud computing, and the
inexorable rise of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning present new
security threats and privacy issues that require innovative solutions.
Moreover, unconventional threats and vulnerabilities can circumvent
established security and privacy dogmas, exposing key weaknesses in
critical systems.
The Workshop on Security and Privacy in Connected Embedded Systems (SPICES)
aims to address these challenges and foster interdisciplinary collaboration
to explore innovative solutions for securing wireless and embedded systems.
The workshop provides a platform for researchers, practitioners, and
industry experts to discuss the latest topics and challenges in wireless
and embedded systems security and privacy – not only on how existing
systems shouldbe secured but also exploring important security aspects (or
lack of) in current research trends. We welcome submissions with unusual
takes on existing techniques, proposals for novel security and privacy
solutions, exposure of atypical weaknesses, and the application of
unconventional approaches to solving next-generation wireless security
challenges.
We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to
submit papers (up to 6 pages, double-column) focusing on topics such as:
- Wireless security for cyber-physical systems (e.g., factory automation).
- AI / Machine Learning assisted security and privacy at the physical, MAC,
or networking layers.
- Generative Adversarial Networks for wireless and embedded security.
- Security protocols for wireless communications and networking.
- RF Jamming attacks and defenses for wireless networks.
- Localization and positioning privacy (GPS, UWB, BLE 5.2, etc.).
- Measurement of embedded computing privacy leakage.
- Privacy-enhancing and anonymization techniques in embedded computing.
- Security and privacy techniques in embedded computing.
- Privacy-enhanced data analytics and storage in embedded computing.
- Privacy-preservation methods on context (e.g., location, energy) changes
in embedded computing.
- Offensive security and side-channel attacks on IoT devices.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Smart health, smart cities, smart industries, smart agriculture, smart
environment, smart transportation, smart homes, smart education, smart
business, smart energy, smart grids, and so on are the components that aid
mankind in smart living. However, they typically require the design and
development of innovative technologies, standards, and protocols apart from
their architectures and frameworks. IoT has emerged as an extension to
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with low-cost and Internet-enabled
solutions for connecting and accessible anything from anywhere. In
addition, such smartness is derived due to the artificial intelligence
yields in the production of tremendous amounts of data. The data increases
as a baby boomer requires efficient tools to analyze and extract suitable
inferences for services in order to extend smart living. Cloud, Edge, and
Big Data acquired enormous attention in the light of massive data storage
and analytics. With the large cohorts of gazette shrewdness and hi-tech
population, the infrastructure and service delivery becomes expensive and
difficult for cities and governments to manage. Automating systems through
the utilization of IoT, Cloud, Edge, Big Data, and M2M tools and
technologies demonstrate a great opportunity to reduce operating costs
significantly, utilize those savings more effectively, and provide better
services to communities for smarter living. This workshop provides a
platform for the researchers to publish their innovative ideas, extensive
analysis of their comparative studies, critical review of existing
research, and position papers in the above areas to meet the smart living
requirements.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
We are pleased to invite you to submit original contributions to SLICE

*Age and Semantics of Information Workshop*
Age and Semantics of Information are of fundamental importance to
next-generation communication systems. Age of Information (AoI) is an
end-to-end metric that can capture one semantic property known as
timeliness of information, which is important for information-update and
data analytics applications (e.g., crowdsourcing, financial trading, social
networks, and online learning), as well as networked monitoring and control
systems (e.g., sensor networks, airplane/vehicular control, robotics
networks, Internet of Things, and Cyber-Physical Systems). Semantics of
Information (SoI) captures properties of information that relate to the
“goal” and “purpose” of information, which is also meant to improve the
performance of systems that utilize the information. Recent research
advances on the Age of Information suggest that many well-known design
principles (e.g., for providing high throughput and low delay) that lead to
the success of traditional data networks are inappropriate and need to be
re-examined for enhancing information freshness in the rapidly emerging
real-time applications. In the meantime, the paradigm shift to Semantics of
Information toward 6G communications systems is expected to create systems
that generate, process, and transmit only a small fraction of information,
which will consume less energy and channel resources without sacrificing
their effectiveness. Therefore, the Age and Semantics of Information (ASoI)
Workshop will provide a forum where researchers and technical experts can
share the latest research insights, present key, and emerging results on
the Age and Semantics of Information, and identify new challenges and
opportunities.
The Age and Semantics of Information Workshop, which will be held on
October 14, 2024 invites papers on topics of interest that include, but are
not limited to:
* Semantics of Information and Task/Goal-oriented Communications
* Information-theoretic Limits and Interpretations of Age of Information
and Semantics of Information
* Source and Channel Coding for Age of Information and Semantic
Communications
* Random Access and Gossiping Protocols for Age of Information and
Semantic Communications
* Freshness and Semantics of Information in Real-time Learning,
Estimation, Computation, and Control
* Networking Aspects and Protocols for Age of Information and Semantic
Communications
* Resource Allocation and Management for Age of Information and Semantic
Communications
* Modeling and Performance Analysis for Age of Information and Semantic
Communications
* ML/AI Techniques for Semantic and Task/Goal-oriented Communications

================================================================
The ACM International Workshop on Middleware for Digital Twins (Midd4DT)
held in conjunction with the 25th ACM/IFIP International Middleware Conference
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HK
02nd – 06
th December 2024
https://hakiri.github.io/MIDD4DT-24/ <https://hakiri.github.io/MIDD4DT-24/>
Background and Motivation
Nowadays, the concept of Digital Twin (DT) is used in a wide variety of
domains such as manufacturing, healthcare, smart cities, smart agriculture,
smart grids, and mechanical engineering, to enhance the performance, enable
proactive maintenance to extend the physical system’s life, enhanced
productivity, and faster innovation with reduced costs. Typically, the
digital twin systems are generated and then synchronized using data flows
in both directions between the real-world physical components and their
virtual replica counterparts. Furthermore, a digital twin can enable
continuous prototyping, and testing on-demand, without interruption,
assuring and self-optimizing the forthcoming 5G network and beyond. It
creates virtual replicas of IoT devices in various application scenarios
and maintains a device twin for every connected device.
Furthermore, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) middleware,
service-oriented middleware, and many other middleware modernization
approaches are providing a Virtual Automation Bus (VAB) to offer end-to-end
connectivity between physical assets and the digital twin through many
heterogeneous communication protocols, brokers, and messaging services,
while ensuring interoperability among heterogeneous protocols and
facilitating cross-layer interaction with the digital twin through VAB.
Topics and Scope
The main goal of this workshop is to address these challenges and present
advanced and innovative tools, techniques, models, architectures,
specifications, architectures, and algorithms that bring diverse middleware
technologies to DT in IoT applications and services. Contributions
