19-22 June 2005 IST Mobile and Wireless Communications Summit
CALL FOR PAPERS
Placing people at the centre of an 'all-communicating' world is the exciting
vision of ambient intelligence. New paradigms in the areas of network
design, transmission technology, hardware and software solutions,
applications, services, and business models will be necessary to realize
such interactive environments. The arising challenges are currently being
addressed in a number of research projects within the European Information
Society Technologies (IST) framework.
The 14th IST Summit focuses on bringing together experts from the worldwide
wireless industry and research communities, with a special emphasis on
providing a forum for European research initiatives. Recent advances in all
fields related to mobile and wireless communications will be presented,
thereby facilitating the identification of future trends, illumination of
business opportunities, and discussion on the future roles of various bodies
from academia, industry, and research centres in helping to form the vision
of an ambient, truly intelligent communications environment.
Authors are invited to submit high-quality papers representing original
results in all areas of wireless communications systems and networks,
including their terrestrial, satellite and high altitude platform
components. Submitted papers should not exceed five pages. Accepted papers
will be published in conference proceedings.

Subject: [Tccc] Call for Papers IISW'04
Date: Fri, 9 Jul 2004 15:27:58 +0200 (CEST)
From: Calin Curescu <calcu(a)ida.liu.se>
To: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the program committee for the International Infrastructure
Survivability Workshop (IISW04) to be held in conjunction with the 25th
IEEE Real-time Systems Symposium, we would like to invite you to consider
the workshop for a paper submission.
Selected papers from the workshop will be published in the International
Journal of Critical Infrastructures (IJCIS), and reviewed by three members
of the distinguished program committee.
Submission deadline: 4th September. For more details please refer to:
www.ida.liu.se/~calcu/iisw04
Regards,
Simin Nadjm-Tehrani and Calin Curescu
Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies.
CALL FOR PAPERS:
International Infrastructure Survivability Workshop (IISW'04)
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Overloads, Attacks and Failures: the Trade-off against Time
To be held in conjunction with the 25th IEEE International Real-Time
Systems Symposium (RTSS04) December 5-8, 2004 Lisbon, Portugal
SCOPE:
Society today is increasingly dependent on critical infrastructures that
constitute the backbone for delivery of its essential services. Many
critical services such as power supplies, public transport,
telecommunications, banking and finance, and defence will be increasingly
relying on information infrastructures, not only for management and
control but also for monitoring outages and recovery. Combinations of
wireless and ad hoc networks with fixed networks are becoming a reality in
many domains.
Traditional solutions in dependable systems build in robustness at the
production stage. Using redundancy, feedback mechanisms, and careful
sensitivity analysis the system is shown to stay in its characterised
operational profile and shows graceful degradation when components fail.
In today's networked infrastructures it is more difficult to achieve these
goals due to the following developments:
* New infrastructures are built as partial overlays with old
infrastructures making the emerging system of systems irregular in its
architecture.
* Introduction of new services, emerging trends and deregulation
contribute to unbalancing phenomena: operational conditions may change
abruptly creating traffic/flow patterns not foreseen by operators.
* Prevalence of software brings with it the weaknesses of COTS, making
systems more susceptible to "normal" failures and malicious attempts to
bring down a service.
* Tomorrow's networked systems will have to face the challenge of
survivability: delivering critical services in a timely manner in presence
of overloads, attacks and failures.
In this workshop we intend to bring together research that addresses the
above issues by incorporating metrics that represent the use of scarce
resources, reflecting timing performance, anticipating outages and
mobilising system reconfigurations to stall outages or recover from
partial failures. Practical experience reports are highly encouraged.
Papers that describe original unpublished work are solicited and selected
papers will be published in a special issue of the International Journal
on Critical Infrastructures (IJCIS). The topics of interest cover, but
are not limited to, the following areas:
* Models and architectures for network survivability
* Network fault-tolerance: wireless networks, sensor networks, IP networks
* Interoperability between hybrid wireline/wireless networks
* Fraud and intrusion Detection, Prediction, and Countermeasures
* Survivable architectures for e-commerce
* Security and availability of web services
* Support for QoS
* Adaptive systems theory and practice
* Quality metrics in open systems
* Availability/Performance trade-offs
* Security/Performance trade-offs
* Case studies and experimental studies

The 1st IFIP TC6 WG6.6
Workshop on Autonomic Communication (WAC 2004)
Autonomic Communication Principles
18-19 October 2004 in Berlin, Germany
Â
http://www.autonomic-communication.org/wac/
Â
Call For Papers
Â
Scope
Â
The purpose of this workshop is to present and to discuss the principles
of Autonomic Communication (AC) - a new communication paradigm to
assist
the design of the Next Generation Networks (NGN). This workshop
explicitly
focuses on the grounding principles to achieve purposeful behavior on
top of self-organization (self-management, self-healing,
self-awareness, etc.).
Papers are solicited that study network element's autonomic behavior
exposed by innovative (cross-layer optimized, context-aware, and
securely
programmable) protocol stack in its interaction with numerous
often-dynamic
network groups and communities. The goals are to understand how
autonomic
behaviors are learned, influenced or changed, and how, in turn,
these affect other elements, groups and the network.
The self-organized Internet will be able to sense its environment, to
perceive
these changes and to understand the meaning of these changes, thus
facilitating new ways to perform network control, management, middle
box
communication, service creation, etc. This will be based on universal
and
fine-grained multiplexing of numerous policies, rules and events
which are
done autonomously but facilitate desired behavior of groups of network
elements.
Though the primary application domain is the Internet, papers
addressing
autonomic communication principles for mission critical distributed
systems
are also welcome.
The emphasis of the event is on long-term research agenda with broad
interdisciplinary approach to explore concurrently multiple paradigm
spaces.
Along with invited papers and a panel the conference will offer
possibility
for technical papers and position statements.
Â
Papers are solicited on at least the following topics:
* Policy-based communication and policy multiplexing in NGN
* Group communication for control and management plane
* Designing evolvable next generation networks
* Self-organisation for NGN re-configurability
* Management of nomadicity
* Large AC testbeds
* AC calculi
* Modelling and analysis of AC systems
* Theoretical foundations of autonomic network control
* Mobile code and network programmability for AC
* Generic network-level service composition at run-time
* Context handling within AC
* Theoretical foundations of rule-based systems;
* Security, immunity and resilience of AC
* Applied AC (QoS, traffic engineering, routing, etc.);
Â
WAC 2004 is technically co-sponsored by IFIP TC6 WG6.6 and will be
organized
by the FP6 project "Autonomic Communication: Coordination Action" of
Future
and Emerging Technologies program of the IST.
Â
Communication Paradigms for 2020
IST Program Future and Emerging Technologies plans to launch a long-term
research (proactive initiative) in the area of novel communication
paradigms;
it will address high-level visionary and risky research of fundamental
nature
and shall explore its limits and opportunities in increasingly important
areas of economical and social development in Europe. Autonomic
Communication
addresses these challenges from a network-centric technological
viewpoint to
enable true ambient intelligence and I-centric communication scenarios.
Â
Information for Authors
Submissions will be subject to at least three peer reviews and should
describe
original work (not submitted or published elsewhere) and be 12
single-spaced
pages or less in length. Submissions should include: title, authors,
affiliations, 100-word abstract, and list of keywords. The author
responsible
for correspondence should be identified, including the author's name,
position,
mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. Authors
are
requested to follow the LNCS's guidelines. One of the authors of each
accepted paper must present the paper at WAC '2004.
Â
Address for Submissions
Authors are requested to submit their manuscripts electronically in
PDF, or
in Postscript formats to the following address:
wac(a)autonomic-communication.org
Workshop proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg
in
the Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series and distributed after the
event.

MGC2004 - 2nd International Workshop on Middleware for Grid Computing
in conjunction with the 5th International Middleware Conference 2004
Toronto, Ontario, Canada - October 18th, 2004
http://mgc2004.lncc.br
=========== Final CALL FOR PAPERS ===========
Extended submission deadline: July 17th, 2004
Submit using ACM style to minimize the effort in generating the camera
ready version.
History: The first edition of this workshop (MGC2003) was held on June
17th 2003,
in conjunction with the Middleware Conference, in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil. MGC2003
saw a good combination of the many different flavors in Middleware for
Grid Computing,
with 16 technical presentations and discussions on several stimulating
topics
including, among the others, Classic Grids, object oriented
technologies, Service-
based Grids, Open grid Service Architecture, Agent Grid, Interactive
Grid, Grid
Economy / Scheduling, and Portlets. After the event, extended and
thoroughly revised versions of the papers were invited to a Special
Issue of Concurrency and Computation Practice and Experience Journal -
Vol.16 N.5 2004. The first workshop generated
substantial interest in the community and we hope to build on this
tradition this
year. Far from exhausting the topics of interest, MGC2003 paved the way
for a second
edition of the workshop, that will continue the most interesting and
stimulating
topics emerged last year, and also include some novel issues.
Description: Much of the focus of Grid until recently has been within
research
organizations. Currently the involvement of commercial organization has
increased tremendously. That leads to a greater focus on integration
with commercial computing
models and more work on the security and resource management models
required for
automated and secure access negotiation for remote resources. In order
to control
such a broad base of resources, Grid Computing has a middleware layer
which controls
the distributed execution of applications.
In this Workshop we would encourage researchers from the various GRID
middleware
communities to submit and present original work for publication.
Overall topics of
interest include but are not limited to:
Classic Grid Middleware
Object Oriented technologies or Component Middleware
WSRF/OGSA/Web services
Grid Middleware Architectures
Grid Services
Grid Middleware Security
Resource Management and Scheduling
Strategies and protocols for obtaining QoS
Semantic Grid Middleware
Managing Information in Grid Middleware
Grid Object Metadata and Schemas
Programming Models, Tools, and Environments
Performance Evaluation and Modeling
Evolution of and experiences with Grid systems
Wireless Grids
Data Grid Middleware
Dependability and Fault Tolerance in Grids
Virtualization in Grids
Paper Submission: The Workshop on Middleware for Grid Computing invites
authors to
submit original and unpublished work. Papers should not exceed 4-6
single-spaced
pages of text using 10 point size type on A4 paper. Authors should
submit a PostScript (level 2) or PDF file that will print on a
PostScript printer. Submission implies
the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present
the paper.
All selected papers for are peer-reviewed and will be published in the
ACM Digital
Library. Selected (extended) papers will be invited to a special issue
of Concurrency
and Computation: Practice and Experience Journal for 2005. Some papers
may be selected
to be presented as posters. Electronic only submission.
Important Dates: Paper Submissions: now July 17th, 2004
Papers Not. of acceptance: August 14th, 2004
Papers Camera-ready: September 1st, 2004
