CALL FOR WORKSHOP PAPERS
FAILSAFE 2020
The Second International Workshop on the Engineering of Reliable,
Robust, and
Secure Embedded Wireless Sensing Systems
17th February 2020
Lyon, France
http://wp.doc.ic.ac.uk/failsafe/
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you research or deploy Wireless Systems and Networks (WSN) for a living?
Have you ever deployed a WSN in the wild? Has anything ever gone wrong?
Did you experience any problems or issues that you had to overcome? We
want to hear about these experiences, this workshop is for you!
We want the story of your WSN deployment, and the problems that you
faced. We
want to hear about the failures and problems that you faced during your
deployment of experiment, and how you overcame them.
IMPORTANT DATES
<complete>
Paper submission: 15th November, 2019
Acceptance notification: 10th December, 2019
Camera ready: 20th December, 2019
Workshop date: 17th February, 2020
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Papers describing and presenting data of problems and failures of
experimental
efforts, practical experiences, and industrial and commercial
developments in
all aspects of sensor networks, mobile devices, and wireless
communication are
solicited. Within this domain, particular topics of interest include,
but are
not limited to:
• Failure and the diagnosis of an actual deployment of mobile apps, net-
works and systems. Must include some data and analysis of what caused
the failure.
• Examples of a deployment that was tested, and failed due to unexpected
circumstances. The testing methodology must be presented and discussed,
as well as how it failed to account for the phenomenon that caused the
failure, and a potential solution described.
• Testing frameworks or verification methodologies that have arisen out
of sensor system deployment failures, and are currently used to prevent
similar failures of wireless sensor systems.
• Monitoring tools or control systems that have been used in actual
deployments
and have been used to detect and diagnose node or system
performance issues or failures.
• Any documented examples with data showing the effects of a malicious
or nefarious attack on a deployed embedded wireless sensor system.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Submissions should not be previously published and not currently under
review
by another conference or journal. Original papers must have up to 6 pages
including references. Please visit the workshop web page for more

Scope and Topic List
The integration of computing and networking is considered a promising
direction to fulfill the strict low latency and high data exchange
requirements of a number of new and innovative application use-cases
(e.g., augmented/virtual reality, autonomous driving, drone coverage).
Context-aware networking can help maximize the compute utilization at
the edge increasing the network capacity. For instance, network
functions may enable intelligent distribution of tasks to resources, the
reuse of results from previously executed tasks, adaptability to the
dynamic nature of edge ecosystems (e.g., network dynamics, bursty rates
of tasks, dynamic resource availability).
The ENCP workshop has the integration of networking and computing as the
central theme with a focus on mechanisms for the joint optimization of
networking and computing resources, infrastructure virtualization,
in-network caching, compute reuse, and security and privacy concerns.

* ***** CORRECTION: NEW EVENT DATE ***** *
The 21st Annual International Workshop on Mobile Computing Systems and
Applications (ACM HotMobile 2020)
https://hotmobile.org/2020/
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
March 3-4, 2020
Austin, Texas, USA
Call for Papers
ACM HotMobile 2020, the Twenty-first International Workshop on Mobile
Computing Systems and Applications continues the series of highly
selective, interactive workshops focused on mobile applications, systems,
and environments, as well as their underlying state-of-the-art
technologies. HotMobile's small workshop format makes it ideal for
presenting and discussing new directions or controversial approaches.
We solicit submissions of papers that (1) focus primarily on systems and
applications and (2) propose new directions of research, advocate
non-traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate controversy
and discussion. We especially encourage papers that identify fundamental
open questions, advocate a new approach, offer a constructive critique of
the state-of-the-art, debunk existing assumptions, report unexpected early
results, report on promising but unproven ideas, or propose new evaluation
methods. Novel ideas need not be supported by full evaluations;
well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations suffice. The program
committee will explicitly favor early work and papers likely to stimulate
reflection and discussion over a “6-pages conference paper.”
We take a broad view of Mobile Systems research. This includes:
· Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility.
· Operating system and distributed system support for mobile
computing.
· Wearable computing, internet of things, edge computing, sensing,
and context-awareness.
· HCI issues related to mobile computing.
· Security and privacy of mobile computing.
· Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting
mobility.
· Wireless technology, as it pertains to mobile systems and
applications.
The deadline for submissions is *October 15, 2019, 11:59pm EDT*. Acceptance
notifications will be sent by December 15, 2018.
Presenting at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on research
ideas at least one year away from a full-fledged conference submission to
ACM MobiSys or other high-quality conferences. A full-length paper on the
same topic submitted to a conference in less than a year is unlikely to
include sufficient new material and mature ideas to warrant publication.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may not
be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers accompanied by
nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will be returned to
the author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific peer review process,
submissions will be handled as confidential material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages in PDF format,
including all references, figures and tables. The submissions should not be
anonymous. The submissions must meet the following formatting requirements:
· Font size no smaller than 10pt.
· Font size of the bibliography no smaller than 9pt.
· Double column format with each column having dimensions 9.25
inches x 3.33 inches, a space of 0.33 inches between the two columns, and
with no more than 55 lines of text per column.
· Fit properly on US letter-sized paper (8.5 inches x 11 inches).
We recommend the use of the "sigconf" ACM proceedings template, available
at: http://www.acm.org/, with the font size of the main body amended to
10pt. An example Tex document can be found here. For more submission
guidelines, please visit the conference website. Please note that it is the
responsibility of the authors to ensure that the submissions are meeting
all formatting requirements.
The papers accepted to HotMobile 2020 will be publicly available from the
workshop's website for a limited time window, as per ACM's Digital
Library's Policy.
If you have any questions, please contact the PC chair at

• Final Manuscript: April 15, 2020
_*Scope:*_
Information-Centric Networking (ICN) has been proposed as an alternative
paradigm for future Internet and promising to replace the current
host-centric model. The communication in ICN is mainly based on the
content name instead of using host addresses. Hence, the content is
decoupled from its original location and may be cached in the network
infrastructure. Also, the use of content-based security makes ICN a
strong candidate for the future Internet, to fulfill user requirements,
improve the content distribution, and the overall network performance.
Under the concept of ICN, various architectures have been implemented
such as Content-Centric Networking (CCN) and Named Data Networking
(NDN). On the other hand, the Internet of Things (IoT) technology is
being widely applied to diverse domain-applications including smart
cities, smart homes, smart healthcare, smart grids, and smart
transportation. Things in the IoT ecosystem can collect data,
interconnect between each other and the Internet, processing and taking
decisions without human interaction. IoT communications and applications
are, in nature, information-based and follow content-oriented paradigm.
Hence, ICN may show promising performance on IoT, and help to overcome
different IoT challenges and application requirement including
addressing, heterogeneity, mobility, security, and scalability.
Potential topics include but not limited to the following:
• Advances architecture and application design for ICN-IoT.
• Standardized and unified content naming schemes.
• Energy and resource efficiency forwarding scheme.
• Distributed in-network caching placement strategies.
• Efficient cache replacement policies.
• Forwarding/caching in resource-constrained IoT devices.
• Secure pub-sub communication among IoT applications.
• Novel QoS provisioning for CCN/NDN architecture.
• Privacy, security, and trust for IoT applications.
• Resource constraints access control policies for IoT.
• Enable ICN communication for 5G-IoT networks.
• Lightweight cryptography algorithms for ICN-IoT networks.
• Experimental prototypes and test-bed for CCN/NDN in IoT.
• Analysis and evaluation of running CCN/NDN in large scale IoT networks.
• Business models of applying ICN in real IoT environment.

*** Organized as part of CPS-IoT Week 2020 ***
The organizers of IoTDI 2020 are pleased to announce the organization of
IoTDI 2020, and are soliciting high-quality papers for the conference. The
ACM/IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things Design and
Implementation (IoTDI) is a premier venue on IoT. In 2020, IoTDI will be
held for the fifth time, and will be part of CPS-IoT WEEK 2020 (
https://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~cpsiot/cpsweek2020/index.html) being organized
in Sydney.
A confluence of technological advances marks the advent of a new era. World
data volume is growing at an unprecedented pace, much of it from embedded
devices. Smart cities are expected to grow, fed by millions of data points
from multitudes of human and physical sources. Cyber-attacks grow more
nefarious, bringing down physical systems. Social networks are becoming
ubiquitous, offering information on physical things. The separation between
cyber, physical, and social systems is blurring. Collectively, these
developments lead to the emergence of a new field, where the networking and
physical realms meet. It is the field of the Internet of Things (IoT). This
conference is an interdisciplinary forum to discuss challenges,
technologies, and emerging directions in system design and implementation
that pertain to IoT. This conference invites researchers and practitioners
from academia, industry and government, and accepts original, previously
unpublished work on a range of topics related to IoT.

(EWSN) is a highly selective single-track international conference
focusing on the latest research results on embedded systems and wireless
networking, key enablers for visionary scenarios such as the Internet of
Things and Cyber-Physical Systems. After last year’s positive experience
in China, the 17th edition returns to Europe in Lyon, France. The
conference continues its aim for broad, world-wide impact. EWSN 2020 has
been approved for in-cooperation with ACM SIGBED and ACM SIGMOBILE.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
The conference solicits both full technical papers and short papers
describing validated early ideas. Specific topics of interest include
but are not limited to:
- Communication and networking for wireless and embedded systems
- Sensing, actuation, and control
- Operating systems, middleware, and services
- Processing, storage, and management of data
- Programming paradigms, languages, and tools
- Time and location management
- Dependability (real-time, reliability, availability, safety)
- Privacy and security in applications and systems
- Human-machine interaction with wireless and embedded systems
- Design and implementation of real-world applications and systems
- Measurement studies and deployment experiences
- Green IoT (low-power, harvesting, energy management)
- Challenges of ultra dense networks
- Heterogeneous networks
- Applications and problems from developing countries and emerging markets
As always, contributions are welcome across the entire scope of the
conference. As the relevant environments grow increasingly diverse and
dense, we encourage contributions addressing this increased
heterogeneity, and ultra dense networks. Papers highlighting novel ideas
that are not ready for extensive evaluations, report on new tools and
platforms with limited evaluation, or topics that could be adequately
described in a short format are invited for submission as short papers.
Initial explorations of profound problems in developing countries that
have been addressed using IoT solutions may also be appropriate short
paper submissions.
The conference proceedings will appear in the ACM Digital Library.
Selected accepted papers will be fast-tracked to ACM Transactions on
Sensor Networks (TOSN) or ACM Transactions on the Internet of Things (TIOT).
SUBMISSION
Submissions to EWSN 2020 must be original (i.e., not previously
published) and not currently under review by any other conference or
journal. EWSN 2020 will adopt a double-blind review process. Authors
must make a good faith effort to anonymize their submissions to ensure
that their identities are not disclosed to reviewers and reviewers are
discouraged from actively working to uncover author identities. To
promote early dissemination, submission to arXiv (or similar) is
allowed, provided cross-citations are not made.
Formatting requirements. Both full (10-12 pages) and short papers (4-6
pages) are welcome. Authors should carefully consider this choice as
full papers will not be considered as short paper candidates during the
review phase. Pages must use 8.5" x 11" (letter) two-column format,
using 10-point type on 11-point leading, with a maximum text block of 7"
wide x 9" deep with an inter-column spacing of .25". The page limits
include figures, tables, and references. Authors may use the LaTeX
templates provided here.

Paper registration deadline --> 25 October 2019, 22:59 EDT
Paper submission deadline --> 1st November 2019, 22:59 EDT
Author notification --> 20th December 2019
***Call for Papers***
The Passive and Active Measurement (PAM) conference brings together
researchers and operators to discuss novel and emerging work in the area
of network measurement and analysis.
PAM is inclusive of all areas of network measurement, but focuses on
systems-based research and real-world data. Indeed, measurement
technology is needed at all layers of the network stack, ranging from
power profiling of hardware components to virtualization in data centers
to application profiling and even user experience. Work with operational
impact or relevance to the broader network research community is
especially welcome, as is early and promising measurement technique.
Original contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in the
following areas are invited:
+ Applications, e.g., web, streaming, games
+ Data centers and cloud computing
+ Energy
+ IoT, e.g., SCADA, ICS, and embedded systems
+ Measurement tools and software
+ Network security and privacy
+ Overlays, e.g., P2P, CDNs
+ Physical Layer
+ Routing
+ Social networks
+ Topology
+ Transport/congestion control
+ User behavior and experience, QoE
+ Virtualization, e.g., SDN, NFV
+ Visualization
+ Wireless and mobile
Although PAM traditionally attracts early stage contributions, works
that are a reappraisal or independent validation of previous results, or
which enhance the reproducibility of network measurement research, for
instance by publishing new datasets on an existing topic, are explicitly
included in PAM's scope.
***Important Dates***
+ Paper Registration: 25th October 2019, 22:59 EDT
+ Paper Submission: 1st November 2019, 22:59 EDT
+ Notification: 20th December 2018
+ Camera-ready Due: 31st January 2019
***Submission Guidelines***
Authors should only submit original work that has not been published
before and is not under submission to any other venue. All submissions
must satisfy the following requirements:
+ Follow Springer LNCS format (see
https://www.springer.com/us/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-gu…)
+ Up to 12 pages for technical content (+ up to 5 pages for appendices
and references)
* Note that reviewers are not required to read appendices.
Everything needed to evaluate the paper should appear in the first 12 pages.
+ NOTE: Anonymization; as started in PAM 2019, reviewing will be
double-blind:
* Do not include names or affiliations of authors in the submission.
* Refer to your prior work in the third person.
* Make a best effort to anonymize system names that would give you away.
* If you have any concerns about how to anonymize your paper while
maintaining its integrity, contact the PC chairs.
+ Submit via HotCRP: http://hotcrp.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/pam2020/
***Ethical Considerations***
Following the standard set by the Internet Measurement Conference (from
which we base this section), papers describing experiments with users or
sensitive user data (e.g., network traffic, passwords, social network
information) must follow basic precepts of ethical research and
subscribe to community norms. These include: respect for privacy, secure
storage of sensitive data, voluntary and informed consent if users are
placed at risk, avoiding deceptive practices when not essential,
beneficence (maximizing the benefits to an individual or to society
while minimizing harm to the individual), and risk mitigation. When
appropriate, authors are encouraged to include a subsection describing
these issues. Authors may want to consult the Menlo Report
(http://www.caida.org/publications/papers/2012/menlo_report_actual_formatted/)
for further information on ethical principles and the Allman/Paxson IMC
07 paper (https://conferences.sigcomm.org/imc/2007/papers/imc80.pdf) for
guidance on ethical data sharing.
Note that submitting research for approval by each author's
institutional ethics review body is necessary, but not sufficient - in
cases where the PC has concerns about the ethics of the work in a
submission, the PC will consider the ethical soundness and justification
of any paper, just as it does its technical soundness. Authors unsure
about ethical issues are welcome to contact the program committee co-chairs.
***Awards***
There will be two awards for papers of exceptional merit. The Best Paper
award will recognize the paper that is deemed by the committee to have
the highest merit of all the submissions. The Best Dataset Award will be
given to the best paper that makes datasets and corresponding code
available to the public by the time the camera-ready is submitted. These
artifacts must be sufficiently documented such that any researcher can
use them to repeat the results described in the paper, and they must be
placed in a sufficiently long-lived archival repository (e.g., Github,
Bitbucket, or CRAWDAD).
***Poster Session***
As in previous years, PAM will include a poster session featuring
peer-reviewed submissions.
Stay tuned for further details and the separate call for posters.
