*Call For Papers*
*Â *
*Workshop on ICT based Collision Avoidance for VRUs (ICT4VRU) in
conjunction with INFORMATIK 2019, September 23-26, 2019, Kassel, Germany*
Â
According to the latest report from the World Health Organization (WHO),
26 % of all road traffic deaths worldwide (about 350,000) involve
Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) like pedestrians and bicyclists.
Cooperative collision avoidance aims at protecting VRUs by assuming that
they are able to communicate their position with nearby cars by using
mobile devices. In this approach, vehicles and VRUs exchange
information, like their respective movement vectors for detecting
whether a collision is possible or not. Mobile devices offer a wide
range of sensors, which enable the recognition of specific contexts of
VRUs, like for example whether a pedestrian runs towards an intersection
or crosses a curb. Those contexts indicate unsafe VRU movements and can
be used to improve collision avoidance in terms of collision detection
performance, position accuracy, energy efficiency and more.
This workshop aims at addressing these and similar challenges for
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Car2VRU related
scenarios.Â
Â
Topics of interest for the submissions include, but are not limited to:
Â
* Car2VRU architectures, applications and use cases
* Car2X, Car2VRU (Car2P, Car2B) communications
* Analysis of latency, overhead and message frequencies for Car2VRU
communication
* Machine learning and context modelling for pedestrians and bicyclists
* Localization, GNSS improvements
* Ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC)
* Mobile edge computing (MEC)
Â

CALL FOR PAPERS
IFIP WWIC 2019
The 17th International Conference on Wired/Wireless Internet Communications
http://wwic2019.nws.cs.unibo.it
June 17-19, 2019, Bologna, Italy
--------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***** PAPER REGISTRATION DEADLINE: February 18, 2019 *****
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extended versions of selected papers will be invited for publication on
a fast track special issue of Computer Communications (Elsevier) journal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to advancements in technology and development of new services, we
foresee a tremendous growth of new devices and smart things that need to
be connected to the Internet through a variety of wireless technologies.
At the same time, the edge of the Internet is increasingly empowered
with new capabilities, like pervasive sensing and computing power, which
opens the way to new domains, services and business models beyond
traditional mobile Internet, such as connected cars, participatory and
urban sensing, industrial IoT. As a consequence, new types of
information have to be delivered by the network with varying
requirements in terms of reliability, transmission rates and latency. To
cope with the exponential growth of devices and mobile data traffic,
there is a need for clean-slate or evolutionary Internet architectures
merging and assembling different network technologies, supporting new
paradigms for wired/wireless system planning and optimization, efficient
transport over heterogeneous wireless access options, efficient and
quality-aware content distribution, and new approaches for unified
operations and management of the heterogeneous components, like
software-defined systems and network function virtualization. These are
only some examples of the challenges that are of interest to IFIP WWIC 2019.
The IFIP WWIC 2019 conference takes a broader view to the merge of wired
and wireless technologies and welcomes submissions from academia and
industry that explore challenges and advances in architectures,
algorithms, protocols, and technologies for a global wired/wireless
Internet network. Papers that present original work, validated by
experimentation, simulation, or analysis, are solicited. We also
encourage work-in-progress and position papers that describe highly
original ideas, present new directions, or have the potential to
generate insightful provocative discussions. IFIP WWIC is a single-track
conference which has reached, over the last 15 years, a high-quality

Important dates
==============================================================
* Abstract Submission: March 8, 2019
* Submission Deadline: March 15, 2019
* Notification of Acceptance: April 15, 2019
* Camera-Ready Version: April 20, 2019
* Workshop: TBD (June 16-20, 2019)
==============================================================
Scope
==============================================================
Modern software systems are becoming more and more *collective* and are
composed of many distributed and heterogeneous entities. These systems
operate under continuous perturbations making manual adjustments
infeasible. For a collective system to be resilient, its *adaptation*
must also be collective, in the sense that multiple entities must adapt
in a way that addresses critical runtime conditions while preserving the
benefits of collaborative interdependencies. Decision-making in such
systems is distributed and possibly highly dispersed, and interaction
between the entities may lead to the emergence of unexpected phenomena.
In such systems, a new approach for adaptation is needed to allow: (i)
multiple entities to collectively adapt with; (ii) negotiations to
decide which collective changes are best. Collective adaptation also
raises a second important challenge: Which parts of the system (things,
services, people) should be engaged in an adaptation? This is
nontrivial, as multiple solutions to the same problem may be generated
at different levels. The challenge is to understand these levels and
create mechanisms to decide the right scope for an adaptation for a
given problem.
This workshop solicits papers that address new methodologies, theories
and principles that can be used to develop a better understanding of the
fundamental factors underpinning the operation of such systems, so that
they can be better designed, built, and analyzed, as well as case
studies and applications showing such approaches in action.
Interdisciplinary work is particularly welcomed.
Suggested Topics (but not limited to):
* Novel theories relating to operating principles of CAS
* Novel design principles for building CAS systems
* Insights into the short and long-term adaptation of CAS systems
* Insights into emergent properties of CAS
* Insights into general properties of large scale, distributed CAS
* Decision-making approaches in CAS
* Methodologies for studying, analyzing, and building CAS
* Frameworks for analyzing or developing CAS case studies
* Languages, platforms, APIs and other tools for CAS
* Scenarios, case studies, and experience reports of CAS in
different contexts (e.g., Smart Mobility, Smart Energy/Smart Grid,
Smart Buildings, traffic management, emergency response, etc.)
==============================================================

The 1st IEEE International Workshop on Integrated Smart Healthcare (WISH
2019)
July 15-19, 2019, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
https://sites.google.com/view/wish2019
https://ieeecompsac.computer.org/2019/wish/
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*Call for workshop-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Designing pervasive systems for Smart Healthcare environments poses many
challenges, e.g. with respect to intelligence, scalability,
interoperability, robustness, analytics, monitoring, user involvement,
safety and privacy, etc. The goal of this workshop is to explore these
challenges through practical and buildable solutions. We aim to gather the
principal practitioners and their experiences under one roof to discuss
their findings, incite collaboration and move the state of the art forward.
We plan to position this forum as the premier venue for presenting and
discussing work in progress in how to develop and maintain pervasive
computing solutions in Smart Health domain.
Smart healthcare emerges as a novel technology that aims to provide
round-the-clock monitoring of several vital signs of patients using various
health sensors, specialized communication protocols, and intelligent
context-aware applications. Smart healthcare applications proactively
contact the caregiver provided any abnormality arises in the health
condition of a monitored patient. It has been a boon to the patients
suffering from different diseases and requiring continuous monitoring and
care, such as, disabled individuals, assisted living, children of different
ages, and adults who are susceptible to near-fatal falls or sudden
increases in blood pressure, heart rates, stress level, etc. Since, there
are heterogeneous devices and communication technologies introduced by
different companies, major issues that need to be addressed are (1) A
unified platform to facilitate coordination between the large-scale device
distributions, (2) plug-and-play type inclusion of newer health sensors and
replacing old ones without destabilizing the system, (3) Securing personal
health records collected over multiple devices, and finally (4) collecting,
managing, storing and making decisions over several critical healthcare
events composing various real-time data traces. Applying machine
intelligence techniques by AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine
Learning) researchers for intelligent and decentralized decision making in
Healthcare should also be considered for the distributed Smart Health
applications.
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*Scope of the
workshop-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
The workshop is supposed to stir interesting discussions on various
challenging topics on smart healthcare, such as, data acquisition and
context reasoning, analytics and knowledge management, architectural and
algorithmic issues, energy-efficiency, data verification, complex pervasive
computing interactions, cost efficiency, data privacy and security, etc.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Wearable and implantable wireless sensors for healthcare
• Computing for Health Internet-of-Things
• IoT-Health case studies, testbeds & experimental results
