May 1, 2018 - May 3, 2018
Washington DC, USA
Submission Deadline Nov 27, 2017
Notification Due Jan 31, 2018
Final Version Due Feb 14, 2018
The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm promises to make “things” such as
physical objects with sensing capabilities and/or attached with tags,
mobile objects such as smart phones and vehicles, consumer electronic
devices and home appliances such as fridge, television, healthcare
devices, as part of the Internet environment. In cloud-centric IoT
applications, the sensor data from these “things” is extracted,
accumulated and processed at the public/private clouds, leading to
significant latencies.
To satisfy the ever increasing demand for Cloud Computing resources from
emerging applications such as Internet-of-Things (IoT), academics and
industry experts are now advocating for going from large-centralized
Cloud Computing infrastructures to micro data centres located at the
edge of the network. These micro data centres are often closer to a user
(geographically and in access latency) compared to the centralized cloud
data centre. The aim of utilizing such edge resources is to off load
computation that would have “traditionally” been carried out at the
cloud data centre to a resource that is closer to a user or edge
devices. This vision also acknowledges the variation in network latency
from an end user to cloud data centre. Whereas the network around a data
centre is often high capacity and speed, that near the user device may
have variably properties (in terms of resilience, bandwidth, latency, etc).
Referred to as “fog/edge computing”, this paradigm is expected to
improve the agility of cloud service deployments in addition to bringing
computing resources closer to end-users. On the one hand, the
development of Fog and Edge clouds includes dedicated facilities,
operating system, network and middleware techniques to build and operate
such micro data centres that host virtualized computing resources. On
the other hand, the uses of Fog and Edge clouds requires extension to
current programming models and propose new abstractions that will allow
developers to design new applications that take benefit from such
massively distributed systems. The use of this approach also opens up
other challenges in: security and privacy (as a user now needs to
“trust” every micro data centre they interact with), support for
resource management for mobile users who transfer session from one micro
data centre to another, support for “embedding” such micro data centres
into devices (e.g. cars, buildings, etc.)
The conference seeks to attract contributions covering both theory and
practice of any of the aforementioned challenges, from the management
software stack to domain-specific applications.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Data centers and infrastructures for Fog/Edge Computing
- Middleware for Fog/Edge infrastructures
- Programming models and runtime systems for Fog/Edge Computing
- Scheduling for Fog/Edge infrastructures
- Fog/Edge storage
- Monitoring/metering of Fog/Edge infrastructures
- Fog/Edge Computing applications
- Latency/locality-critical applications
- Legal issues in Fog/Edge clouds
- Security and privacy – including support for new cryptographic approaches
- Modeling Fog/Edge environments – e.g. using process networks,
agent-based models, Peer-2-Peer systems, etc
- Performance monitoring and modeling
- Applications of Fog/Edge Computing
Publication:
Proceedings will be published through the IEEE Computer Society
Conference Publishing Services. Paper submitted could be accepted as
REGULAR paper (10 pages) or SHORT papers (4 pages), depending on the
review scores.
Special Issues:
Authors of highly rated papers from ICFEC 2018 will be invited to submit
an extended version to a special issue of the Journal of Software:
Practice and Experience (SPE): Software Tools and Techniques for Fog and
Edge Computing, published by Wiley Press.

Computer Networks Special Issue on Intelligent and Connected
Transportation Systems
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-networks/call-for-papers/compute…
------------------------------------------
Elsevier Computer Networks (Impact Factor: 2.516)
------------------------------------------
SCOPE:
Over the past decade, advances in the Intelligent and Connected
Transportation Systems (ICTS) collectively intend to trim down the fuel
expenditure by avoiding congested traffic, enhancement of traffic safety
whereas initiating a new application, i.e., mobile infotainment. To
address individual requirements of both safety and non-safety
applications in the vehicular communication technology, there is the
need to build up a new communication technology for integrated solutions
of ICTS. Those commodities mentioned result in several types of
vehicular communications, i.e., Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V),
Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), and Vehicle-to-Roadside (V2R)
communications. Due to the rapid growth in this field, various research
constraints need to be addressed, e.g., reliability and latency,
appropriate scalable design of MAC (Medium Access Control) and routing
protocols, performance and adaptability to changes in the environment
(node density and oscillation in network topology), and an evaluation
and validation of vehicular communication protocols under the umbrella
of coherent assumptions using simulation methodologies. To be more
specific, the data retrieval in connected ITS’s itself is a great
challenge in numerous ways. For example, the highly dynamic mobility of
vehicles accelerates a plethora of research questions to be solved.
Potential paper submissions are likely to exploit the connectionism and
emergence of networking systems in various problem-solving methods in
the ICTS and vehicular communications with a focus on the data
retrieval. It may also outline essential challenges, proof-of-concept
studies with a direct and simulated comparison to technical solutions,
and mathematical models of communication principles. Possible topics of
key interest are the following ones:
• Intra-vehicle communication (e.g., vehicle-to-pedestrians,
vehicle-to-portable, vehicle-to-sign)
• Network and system architectures for ICTS
• MAC protocols and channel management in ICTS
• Physical layer and routing protocols for ICTS
• Delay tolerant techniques and protocols for ICTS
• Real-time optimization systems for ICTS
• Modeling and theoretical proofs of communications in ICTS
• Emerging Internet of Things (IoT) applications with ICTS
• Smart sensors and communications in ICTS
• Quality-of-Service (QoS) & Quality-of-Experience (QoE) for ICTS
• Information and Content-Centric Networking in ICTS
• Data retrieval via software-defined ICTS
• Performance evaluations of ICTS

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] MobiSys 2018 - Call for Papers
MobiSys 2018 -- Call for Papers
===============================
https://www.sigmobile.org/mobisys/2018/cfp/
MobiSys 2018 seeks to present innovative and significant research on all
aspects of mobile systems, applications, and services. The conference
values technical contributions with working implementations and
practical evaluations. We also welcome work that explores new and
compelling mobile scenarios and applications as long as the work goes
well beyond providing an initial vision.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Experience with mobile applications, networks and systems
- Innovative mobile, mobile sensing, and mobile crowdsourcing apps
- Tools for building and measuring mobile systems
- Innovative wearable or mobile devices
- Novel software architectures for mobile devices
- Data management for mobile applications
- Infrastructure support for mobile computing
- System-level energy management for mobile devices
- Operating systems for mobile devices
- Support for mobile social networking and mobile Web
- Security and privacy in mobile systems
- Systems for location and context sensing and awareness
- Mobile computing support for pervasive computing
- Vehicular and robotic systems
- Systems and networking support for virtual or augmented reality
- Applications of mobile systems in health, sustainability, and other
domains
Non-traditional topics that bring new perspectives to mobile computing
papers whose contributions overlap with work currently under review
elsewhere must not be submitted to MobiSys. Papers whose contributions
overlap with an earlier published paper will be considered only if (1)
the previous paper was published (not just accepted) at a workshop at
least 6 months before our submission date and (2) it adds significant
new contributions over the previous paper. Authors uncertain whether
their submission meets these guidelines should contact the program
chairs. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms will not be
considered. Accepted submissions will be treated as confidential prior
to publication; rejected submissions will be permanently treated as
confidential.
MobiSys uses a double-blind review policy during the initial paper
review. Authors are instructed to not include their names, affiliations
and contact information on the manuscript they submit for review.
Authors should also anonymize the content of their paper to hide their
identity. Reviewers will not know the identity of the authors during the
initial phase of the review process, however, anonymity will expire
after the majority of the reviews have been submitted and preliminary
outcomes decided. The identities of the authors will be revealed to the
reviewers toward the end of the review process. Submissions who are not
properly anonymized will be rejected without being reviewed.
We strongly encourage prospective authors to use past MobiSys
proceedings as a guideline to assess the readiness of their work for
submission. Due to high review load on PC members, low quality or
premature work submitted to the conference is likely to receive a
smaller number of reviews and the reviews may be brief.
As part of the submission process, authors of papers that describe
experiments on human subjects, or that analyze nonpublic data derived
from human subjects (even anonymized data), will be asked to certify
that their work was vetted by an ethics review (e.g., IRB approval). We
expect authors to follow the rules of their host institutions around
data collection and experiments with human subjects.
Selected outstanding papers may be fast-tracked as a special section of
IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.
Best Paper Award
----------------
All papers will be considered for the Best Paper Award. The program
committee will select a number of candidates for the award among
accepted papers, and select one or more award papers prior to the
conference.
Video Presentation
------------------
The authors of each accepted paper will submit a 1-minute video that
presents their papers' contributions to a general audience. These videos
will be placed on the conference website before the conference, and may
be played during the conference. Some of the videos will be featured on
the social media channels related to the conference.
