The 9th IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Management of Multimedia and
Mobile Networks and Services (MMNS 2006)
CALL FOR PAPERS
----------------
Date: Oct 25-27th 2006
Place: Dublin, Ireland
Extended Submission Deadline: May 19th
Web: http://www.manweek2006.org/mmns/
The International Conference on Management of Multimedia and Mobile
Networks and Services (MMNS) will hold its ninth annual meeting on October
25 through October 27, 2006, in Dublin, Ireland. A single-track
conference, MMNS will provide participants with a high quality and
intimate setting for discussion and debate. The conference is sponsored by
the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working
Group 6.6 on Management of Networks and Distributed Systems, with
technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE Communications Society, Technical
Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
SCOPE OF MMNS 2006
MMNS has established itself as a premier conference for research and
innovation in management of emerging multimedia technology and networked
services. The scope of the conference has been expanded recently to
include management of emerging mobile networks. The objective of the
conference is to bring together researchers and scientists from industry
and academia researching and developing state-of-the-art management and
multimedia systems, while creating a public venue for results
dissemination and intellectual collaboration.
The demand for multimedia real-time services and mobile applications
continues to grow rapidly, bringing forth enormous challenges in the
management of their supporting networks. The need to evolve management
tools and methodologies to keep pace with emerging networks is at a
critical juncture with the proliferation of mobility and wireless systems,
intelligent and broadband networks, data/voice convergence and the
integration of computing and communication in all devices. Concepts such
as self organizing, self-healing adaptive networks and autonomic
communications are bringing the academic and industry research communities
together to address the challenges of managing complexity and systems
problems, where management is inevitably key. In addition to the
challenges provided by the requirements of multimedia services (e.g.,
delay/jitter bounds), mobility introduces yet another set of management
challenges with highly dynamic (intermittently connected) network topology
and resource constrained portable devices.
The MMNS 2006 technical program committee is soliciting research papers in
the broad area of network and service management and new models,
architectures and designs in technology and services to enable multimedia
and mobility proliferation. MMNS 2006 will continue the success of the
outstanding agendas of the past, and will emphasize and solicit novel
research in management of mobile networks. Topics of interest include but
are not limited to:
- Mobile multimedia network management
- Management of wireless ad-hoc networks

Call For papers
International Journal of Sensor Networks (IJSNET)
Special Issue on: "Energy-Efficient Algorithm and Protocol Design in
Sensor Networks"
http://www.inderscience.com/browse/callpaper.php?callID=346
Sensor networks operate under a set of unique constraints and
requirements, which spark numerous research interests in almost every
layer of the network protocol stack. Sensor nodes are usually
battery-powered and energy-constrained, so energy efficiency is of primary
importance for the operational lifetime of a sensor network.
Novel signal processing technologies, network architectures, protocols,
algorithms and applications are needed to improve the energy efficiency
and prolong the lifetime of sensor nodes and sensor networks. There are
extensive efforts happening in energy-conscious network topology control,
collaborative signal processing, media access control (MAC), variable
topology multi-hop routing, flow and error control, and domain-specific
application design. Novel cross-layer approaches have also been emerging
to address the energy efficiency issue through a combined solution via
efforts from different layers.
The main purpose of this Special Issue is to keep a record of the
state-of-the-art research in this fast moving area, and to promote further
research interests and activities on energy-efficient algorithm and
protocol design in sensor networks. We are interested in analytical,
experimental, and systems-related papers.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Network topology control
* Collaborative signal processing
* Optimal power control
* Network reconfiguration architectures and protocols
* Mobility management in mobile sensor networks
* Energy aware task and resource allocation
* Energy-conscious scheduling and media access control
* Variable topology multi-hop routing
* Flow and error control
* Energy-aware transport protocol
* Energy/efficiency/security tradeoffs
* Cross-layer protocol design and development
* Inter-connection between sensor networks and the Internet
* Sensor networks testbeds, experiments, algorithms and measurements

Scope of Special Issue
Mobile communication has evolved in a rapid pace from the introduction
of Analog Cellular networks in 1980s. Technology has gone through
tremendous changes in terms of security, access techniques, protocol
stacks, bandwidth usage and also convergence into packet switching based
on All-IP network from the conventional circuit switched techniques.
Complexity has increased due to the introduction of different access
technologies, available services, and other aspects as mentioned above
during the telecom evolution for the past 20 years. Pressure is mounting
to harmonize various technologies under a common IP backbone so that
seamless handover can be provided that exploits the benefits of
available radio access technologies. Seamless handover should be
achieved not only for Inter-Technology but also for Inter-Operator
handover. Operators and the consumers will be greatly benefited in terms
of cost effectiveness, enhanced features, location independence and ease
of use through the introduction of seamless heterogeneous handover
mechanisms.
Several standardization activities have already started working on
technical solutions for seamless handover. One of the well known
activities is that of next-generation networks (NGN) making use of IMS
based solution for service provisioning and handover between fixed and
mobile operators. Within 3GPP and 3GPP2, activities are on-going to
provision handover between different technologies and recently, in 3GPP,
between different domains. This activity within 3GPP falls under All-IP
Network (AIPN) System Architecture Evolution (SAE)/Radio Access Network
(RAN) Long Term Evolution (LTE). IEEE 802 is also looking into
media-independent handover (MIH) in 802.21 while 802.11u is working on
inter-technology handover. Handover enhancement within IEEE 802.11 is
taking place within Task Group R (TGr). IETF has produced some solutions
in the seamoby working group while further enhancements are being done
in various other groups including mobopts, mipshop and mobike. Along
with standardization activities, various operators and vendors are also
involved in developing harmonized solution for heterogeneous networks,
like, UMA. At the same time a lot of research and development activities
are taking place by academia, research institutes and industries too.
So far, the work has focused on one specific topic of handover such as
security, QoS, and routing. However, the focus should be on developing
an end-to-end network perspective that covers the whole span of the
network from radio aspects to OSS aspects that includes value added
services.
With the above background, this special issue invites people to present
papers on seamless handover in heterogeneous networks in the following
(but, not limited to) areas:
- Handover security
- Solutions for mobility support
- Charging and billing, and AAA infrastructure
- Fraud Management across various networks
- Access Control techniques in heterogeneous networks
- QoS provisioning for inter-technology and intra-/inter-domain handover
- Content provisioning and seamless use of VAS across different networks
- Standardization activities
- Testbed or measurement results

Von: Abdelhamid Mellouk <mellouk(a)univ-paris12.fr>
An: <tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu>
Dear All,
The deadline for this feature topic is fast approaching (june 1st) ..

Please note the following CFP: Deadline for Papers Submission is june 1st.
Call for Papers: IEEE Communications Magazine,

Special Issue on "Quality of Service based Routing Algorithms for
Heterogeneous Networks"
Background
Currently, due to the growing needs in telecommunications (VoD,
Video-Conference, VoIP, etc.) and the diversity of transported flows,
Internet network does not meet the requirements of future
integrated-service networks, which will carry out multimedia data traffic
with a high Quality of Service (QoS). Therefore, it is necessary to develop
a high quality control mechanism to check the network traffic load and
ensure QoS requirements. It's clear that the integration of these QoS
parameters will increase the complexity of the algorithms used in
heterogeneous networks. Thus, there will be QoS relevant technological
challenges in today emerging heterogeneous networks that include different
types of networks (e.g., wired, wireless, mobile, etc.). We shall focus in
this special topic on QoS routing policies, and their effectiveness on
heterogeneous wired and wireless networks. Thus, in this special issue, we
are seeking papers that explore routing algorithms which take into account
the dynamic's change of communication networks and discuss their advantages
and drawbacks when compared to traditional solutions. Compared to the
previous special issues on the integration of QoS, this issue will focus on
a tutorial-based approach, and on the evolution of routing decisions
applied in heterogeneous networks, which may include the load level traffic
patterns and topology of the network changes, that the routing policy
adapts the decision's router.
Scope of Contributions
Authors are encouraged to submit both theoretical and practical results of
significance on all aspects of QoS routing policies and related areas with
concrete experimental studies to show the validity of their approach. We
solicit papers covering a variety of topics that include, but are not
limited to :
- Dynamic state-dependent routing policies
- Quality of Service policies versus Best effort policies

CALL FOR PAPERS
CIC2006
The 2006 International Conference on
Cooperative Internet Computing (CIC2006)
October 25-27, 2006, Hong Kong, China
http://www.comp.polyu.edu.hk/cic2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction
=============
Cooperative computing aims at enabling different parties to work
together towards a pre-defined non-trivial goal. It involves important
technological areas like computer supported cooperative work (CSCW),
workflow, computer-assisted design, databases, distributed systems, and
concurrent programming. In the past few years, the prosperity of
cooperative computing has been accelerated by the ubiquity of the
Internet and the advent of wireless technologies, giving rise to the new
research discipline of Cooperative Internet Computing (CIC). Now,
cooperating parties can work on the Internet at any time and place. At
the same time, we have also witnessed an enormous leap in communication
speed. This has opened up a wide range of new cooperative applications
that were not feasible in the past.
Publication
===========
The CIC2006 conference has partnered with World Scientific Publisher to
publish the conference proceedings as book chapters in a book entitled
"Cooperative Internet Computing". The book is scheduled to be published
after the conference. Best papers will be selected for publication in
the International Journal on High Performance Computing (pending).
Scope and Interests
====================
The Conference invites papers on all aspects of Cooperative Internet
Computing, and their applications. The topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:
* Cooperative Information System Architectures
* Human-Computer Interaction for Cooperation
* Agents and Brokers for Cooperative Computing
* Middleware for Collaboration
* Workflow Systems
* Distributed Multimedia Systems
* Collaborative Internet Learning
* Pedagogical Theories for Collaborative Internet Learning
