Innovative solutions are required for the development, implementation and operation of distributed applications in complex IT environments full of diversity and heterogeneity. Today, systematic application development support is lacking for the emerging wide spectrum of distributed systems ranging from ambient intelligence to global computing scenarios. Following the evolution of the field, DAIS'05 will focus on models, technologies and platforms for interoperable, scalable and adaptable distributed applications within all kinds of computing environments. DAIS'05 is the fifth event in a series of successful international conferences, which started in 1997. DAIS'05 will provide a forum for researchers, application and platform service vendors and users, to review, discuss and learn about new approaches, concepts and experiences in the fields of distributed computing. DAIS'05 will include talks by invited speakers, full technical paper sessions, and work-in-progress presentations. CONFERENCE THEMES In keeping with the focus on models, technologies and platforms for interoperable, scalable and adaptable distributed applications, and in addition to its traditional themes, DAIS'05 especially encourages original unpublished papers addressing the following topics: - software architectures and frameworks for application reconfiguration and adaptation, - component frameworks (e.g. CORBA Components, EJB,.NET), - autonomous systems and architectures, - modelling, specifying, monitoring and management of context-aware and adaptive applications, - support for self-organisation and autonomic behaviour in distribution platforms, - application infrastructures for Service-oriented Architectures and Web Services, - application environments for specific technologies (e.g. GRID computing, mobile and wireless), - issues in enterprise-wide and large-scale application integration, model-driven development and testing, - application management and tuning, - development methodologies for ambient intelligence and sensor net applications, - semantic interoperability and semantic web services. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES DAIS'2005 seeks submissions for: - Full technical papers in no more than 12 pages (about 6000 words); - Work-in-progress papers, describing on-going work and interim results in no more than 5 pages. All papers must be original, unpublished, and not submitted simulta- neously for publication elsewhere. They will be refereed by the Pro- gram Committee. Accepted full papers will be published by Springer in the LNCS series. Submission format: PDF using the Springer LNCS style. PERVASIVE 2005 will include a poster, video and demo program to give researchers opportunity to present their research in a variety of engaging formats. We explicitly encourage submission of late breaking results and work in progress in these categories. For each category, we encourage the submission of a short paper describing the contribution and as an anchor point for future reference. Submissions must be in Adobe PDF format, conform to the Springer-Verlag LNCS style and up to 4 pages. All submissions will be handled using an electronic submission system. The submission will be open beginning of January 2005. Contributions will be reviewed and accepted short papers will be published in the adjunct proceedings of PERVASIVE 2005 which will be also electronically available from the web-site. Eight workshops (W1-W8) will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 in Munich. The submission deadline for these workshops is February 16, 2005 and notifications of accepted submissions will be sent by Tuesday, March 8, 2005. The workshop is a platform to propose new positioning algorithms and location sensing techniques, including new techniques and studies into the properties of existing technologies. Improvements in sensor technology, integration and sensor fusion may be addressed either on a theoretical or on an implementation level. The genesis of nearly all kinds of dynamic location information is mobility. Mobility - in all its facets (user mobility, device mobility, session mobility etc.) - requires advances in wireless network technologies and devices, development of infrastructures supporting cognitive environments, as well as discovery and execution frameworks for location-aware services. Thus we invite you to submit proposals and/or experience papers in the area of mobility and its mentioned adjacencies. Location is also one of the primary aspects (such as time, identity and activity) of all major context models. Context-awareness, a generalization of location-awareness, is another driver of the pervasive computing paradigm. Well designed context modeling and context retrieval approaches are key accessors to the context in any context-aware system. Thus we emphatically invite submissions dealing with issues of modeling and retrieval of context. This may also include integration aspects into service platforms and frameworks to provide location- and context-awareness to services. Personal and confidential data such as the location of the user stored on mobile devices and the location of the mobile device itself have profound implications for personal information privacy. Thus the area of protecting privacy, privacy-oriented location-aware systems, and how privacy affects the feasibility and usefulness of systems may be addressed. Example topics include privacy enablers in pervasive surveillance and sensing environments or location anonymity techniques. Scenarios and applications for location-aware computing may be surveyed and evaluated, including existing applications and aiming forwards future applications, to facilitate the deployment and everyday use of location-aware computing systems in workplaces, homes and public spaces. Submission Guidelines: Authors are requested to submit full papers in Adobe PDF format. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by the international program committee and additional expert reviewers from relevant research communities. Submission of papers -------------------- Prospective authors are encouraged to submit a PDF version of their paper to http:/www.icsy.de/EM05 Papers should not exceed 8 pages (in IEEE/CS proceedings format; 10pt, single-space, double-column) or 6000 words and include an abstract of up to 150 words. A cover page should clearly show the name, mailing address, e-mail address and fax number of the author to contact, as well as the topic areas of the submitted paper. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings by IEEE. Selected papers will be offered the opportunity to appear as extended versions in a special issue of a scholarly journal. The following signed statement should be included on the cover page: "Neither this paper nor any version close to it has been or is being offered elsewhere for publication. All necessary clearances have been obtained for the publication of this paper. If accepted, the paper will be made available in Camera-ready forms by June 9th 2005, and it will be personally presented at the EUROMICRO 2005 Conference by the author or one of the co-authors. The presenting author(s) will pre-register (full fee) for EUROMICRO 2005 before the due date of the Camera-ready paper."
