EWSN 2015
12th European Conference on Wireless Sensor Networks
9-11 February 2015, Porto, Portugal
http://www.cister.isep.ipp.pt/ewsn2015/
*****************************************************
The European Conference on Wireless Sensor Networks (EWSN) is a highly
selective single-track international conference focused on publishing
premier research results pertaining to networked sensing, broadly
defined.
The organizers of EWSN 2015, the twelfth meeting in this series, are pleased
to announce an updated scope that combines the traditional focus of this
conference with emphasis on recent and emerging directions in networked
sensing. These new and emerging directions include (i) study of networked
sensing in the broader context of larger cyber-physical systems and Internet
of Things architectures, (ii) investigation of mobile and human-centric
sensing, (iii) exploration of large-scale data and information processing
challenges.
--------------------------------
CfP Highlights
--------------------------------
* Extended Scope
EWSN 2015 will feature an updated scope, combining the traditional focus of
this conference with emphasis on recent and emerging directions in networked
sensing.
* Updated Topics on Emerging Directions
In line with the extended scope, we are soliciting contributions to new and
emerging directions, such as: Human-centric sensing (e.g.
crowd-sourcing/crowd-sensing, mobile sensing) or big (sensor) data
challenges (e.g. large-scale information processing, analysis of sensor
data).
* New Additional Paper Format
EWSN 2015 will introduce a smaller paper format for validated early ideas
that can be described by a more concise contribution. Therefore, we
solicit two types of original submissions for oral presentation: full papers
(16-pages) and short papers (8 pages).
--------------------------------
Topics of Interest
--------------------------------
EWSN 2015 welcomes contributions describing original ideas, promising new
concepts, and practical experiences (experimental validation, rebuttal,
and/or comparison of existing approaches) that fall broadly in the following
topics:
* Wireless sensor networks and protocols:
-Communication and network protocols
-Information and signal processing
-Software engineering for wireless sensor networks
-Programming abstractions and tools
-Hardware design and implementation
-Sensor network operating systems and resource management
-Cognitive sensor networks
* Sensor network applications and services:
-Sensing in cyber-physical systems
-Internet of Things
-Cooperative object architectures
-Novel uses of sensor data, including healthcare, body area networks,
vehicular applications, and smart buildings
-Localization and tracking services
-Security and fault tolerance
-Sensor network middleware
-Models, systems, and experiences with humans as sensors
* Human-centric sensing:
-Crowd-sourcing/crowd-sensing challenges
-Mobile sensing
-Smart phone sensing applications
-Opportunistic, participatory, and social sensing
* Big (sensor) data challenges:
-Large-scale information processing, learning, mining, and analysis of
sensor data
-Challenges in sensor data stream processing
-Networked data fusion challenges
-Prototypes, testbeds, field experiments

CALL FOR PAPERS
A Special Issue of Ad hoc Networks (Elsevier) on
Vehicular Networking for Mobile Crowd Sensing
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/ad-hoc-networks/call-for-papers/special-is…
================================================
Scope:
Mobility of people and goods is vital to urban economy and quality of
life. It is estimated that people will increase their need of mobility
around 35% per decade for the next 3 decades.
In this context, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) can be seen as new
key enablers of the future networked society.
Vehicles travelling acquire, as mobile sensors, a variety of information
with increased capillarity in time and space. The vast information
collected by vehicles can be used to enable a plurality of new services
addressing safety, traffic management, smart navigation, in-vehicle
remote control, pollution measurements, urban surveillance, environment
monitoring, forensic investigations, and Internet access. Hence, VANETs
represent a wide dynamic sensing opportunity.
The acquisition, sharing, processing, and transmission of data from, to,
and among vehicles foresee a new way to manage the communications:
heterogeneity is inherent to devices, to data, and also to technologies.
This opens new challenges whose complexity increases with the amount of
connected vehicles.
A typical challenge is how to make vehicles opportunistically cooperate,
sharing resources and contents, how to optimize the transmission through
operated networks or road side units (i.e., vehicle to infrastructure
-V2I - communications), and how to obtain a real advantage from
vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications (such as, offloading of cellular
networks, resource optimization, creation of new services).
Other challenges derive from the jointly management and seamless
integration of heterogeneous data flows, from frequent but small packets
transmitted in V2V links, to huge multimedia flows shared and
transmitted through the infrastructure.
This special issue is seeking original contributions on VANETs, sharing
the research efforts and deployment challenges in this field and
discussing challenges, key enabling techniques, unprecedented
approaches, and field trails. Topics of interests include (but are not
limited to):
-Enabling technologies for vehicles cooperation (IEEE 802.11p, LTE,
Visible Light Communication, etc.)
-Cooperative approach for V2I communication
-Physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) techniques (OFDMA, CSMA,
non orthogonal waveforms) for V2V and V2I communications
-Design of advanced PHYs for the coexistence of heterogeneous data flows
(high rate flows with several low rate flows)
-Multi-modal heterogeneous networks and optimal management of resources
-Distributed algorithms for data collection
-Optimal retrieval of relevant data and optimal routing toward the final
users
-New ideas toward an efficient handling of huge number of devices with
widely varying requirements (e.g., information-centric networking)
-Example of ITS or Smart Cities applications relying on data collected
by vehicles
-Field trial experiments.
Original, high quality contributions that are not yet published or that
are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed
conferences are sought. Authors should submit a PDF version of their
complete manuscript according to the following timetable.

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Call for Papers -- PAM 2015
PAM (Passive and Active Measurement) 2015 - Call for Papers
IMPORTANT DATES:
Abstract Registration Due: Sept. 25, 2014 (11:59pm PDT)
Submission Deadline: Oct. 2, 2014 (11:59pm PDT)
Notification: Nov. 21, 2014
Camera Ready Due: Dec. 19, 2014 (11:59pm PDT)
Conference: New York City, NY, March 19-20, 2015
GENERAL INFORMATION
PAM seeks to bring together both the network research and operations
communities to consider network measurement and analysis techniques,
particularly those in the earlier stages of research.
PAM has in the past focused on research and practical applications of
network measurement at Layer-3. However, in the last 3 years PAM
broadened its scope to encompass measurements of networked
applications, content distribution networks, online social networks,
overlay networks, and more. Measurement technology is needed at all
layers of the stack: for power profiling of hardware components; at
the MAC/network/transport layers; as well as up the stack for
application profiling and even to collect user feedback. Measurement
technologies are being designed for the digital home, residential
access networks, wireless and mobile access, enterprise, ISP and data
center networks.
PAM continues to encourage a broad range of submissions across these
recently important topics. We aim to understand the role that
measurement techniques can play in networked environments and
applications, across different layers, and how they can serve as
critical building blocks for broader measurement needs. At the same
time, PAM also continues with its original goal, to expand the
techniques, tools and practical uses of network measurement
technology.
Original papers are invited, but not limited to, the following topics:
* Passive and active measurement tools: techniques, design and experience.
* Characterization studies of network usage, or end-host behavior.
* Application-layer measurements: e.g., social networks or game performance.
* Measurements of protocol behavior: e.g., DNS, DHCP, or routing protocols.
* Network measurements for troubleshooting and anomaly detection.
* Measurements related to network security and privacy.
* Measurements of data centers, cloud services and content distribution.
* Metrics and measurements of resilience and dependability.
* Measurement of end-user performance and quality of experience.
* Management and operation of distributed measurement infrastructures.
* Techniques for measurements and measurement-based inference of
macroscopic Internet structure, dynamics, and evolution.
* Management and visualization of measurement data.
* New measurement initiatives.
* Measurement analysis techniques: e.g., traffic classification.
* Modeling of network measurement.
* Correlation of measurements across multiple layers, protocols or networks.
* Internet-oriented wireless and mobility measurements.
Although PAM traditionally attracts work that is at an early stage,
works that are a reappraisal or independent validation of previous
results, or which enhance the reproducibility of network measurement
research, for instance by publishing new datasets on an existing
topic, are explicitly included in PAM's ambit, and are particularly
encouraged.
Paper submissions are limited to 12 pages, see the conference website
(link below) for more details about paper submission.

<CALL FOR PAPER>
*Call for Paper*
DCCE'14 – 1. Workshop on Dynamic Certification in Cloud Ecosystems
In conjuction with IEEE CloudCom 2014
http://2014.cloudcom.org/
*Abstract*
Audits and certificates can help to evaluate and proof cloud
infrastructures and ecosystems according to specific compliance
catalogues. Subjects of cloud audits are typically the quality of
processes and services, the level of security and data protection as
well as other standardised checklists. Examples such as the EuroCloud
Star Audit are developed in reference to ISO 27001/27017 and ISAE 3000/
ISAE3402 with a restructured approach for cloud service assessment.
Other examples which are based on CCM, ISO27001-2013, AICPA Trust
Principle (and others) are CSA STAR Certification (which is an
evolution, cloud specific of ISO27001) and CSA STAR Attestation (based
on SOC2 and CCM). These 2 examples of audits are part of the CSA Open
Certification Framework.
Current certification processes, conducted once a year or even only
every two years, however, are only partly adjusted to the
characteristics and needs of cloud ecosystems. The challenge is to
specify new approaches, processes, and controls in order to reflect the
flexibility, dynamics and on demand nature of clouds. Heading for
dynamic certification means getting the current status of a cloud
ecosystem on demand reflecting compliance rules based for instance on
the standards above. A typical question from cloud customers nowadays:
“Is the cloud service continuously operating compliant to local data
protection laws?”
The goal of this workshop is (1) bringing together science, industry,
administration and standardisation and (2) elaborating how (abstract)
requirements from standards, legislations, and policies can be boiled
down to technical means that can be monitored, aggregated, and analysed
in a highly dynamic cloud environment in a (half-)automated way.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue on "Communications Technologies and Infrastructures for Smart
eHealth Systems" in IEEE Systems Journal
SCOPE
Research advances in healthcare domain have facilitated the integration of
different technologies for smart, cost-effective, reliable, and pervasive
health monitoring of chronic diseases - which have affected around one
billion people worldwide. Current research efforts focus on developing
real-time communication methods, mostly for Body Area Networks (BANs) that
are used to deliver patients΄ information effectively. These efforts are
limited to communication within a BAN, however less attention has been given
to connect multiple BANs to remote servers in real-time. In addition, there
is a limited study on the integration of BANs with different technologies
including mobile cloud computing - a technology that may assist in storing
and processing the huge amount of BAN data at competitive costs. Machine to
Machine (M2M) is also considered to be a valuable tool in delivering BAN
data to a remote server/cloud for further analysis. This may assist in
reducing risks and cost of remote health monitoring. Unlike conventional
research in BANs where researchers focused on individual networks, there is
a need to develop innovative communication methods with a focus on complete
and smart eHealth systems. This smart eHealth system must integrate the
aforementioned technologies with multiple BANs, and provide rich healthcare
services to end users. It calls for research on versatile topics ranging
from Physical (PHY) and Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols to BANs
coexistence, traffic characterization, cloud resource allocation, and cloud
monitoring and maintenance. This special issue will focus on novel
communication methods for smart eHealth systems, by identifying new
perspectives and highlight potential research issues and challenges.
Specifically, this special issue will demonstrate how the emerging
technologies including cloud computing and/or M2M could be used in future
healthcare systems. Original review and survey articles will be considered
as well. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- M2M communication methods
- Energy-efficient PHY/MAC and networking protocols
- BANs and mobile cloud computing
- Cloud resource allocation and monitoring
- Wearable and implantable computing
- IoT for smart eHealth systems
- Fault tolerance, reliability and scalability
- Traffic characterization
- Coexistence issues of multiple BANs
- Security and privacy
- QoS issues in BANs/cloud computing
- Experimental and simulation-based methods
- Case studies of smart eHealth architectures
Papers should address the above specific topics from the system perspective
and in the context of eHealth systems in order to be considered for this
special issue.

Theme and Scope
The growing availability of digital contents and the simultaneous cost reductions in storage, processing, and networking is driving the growth of the entertainment technology. While in the past entertainment technology traditionally offered predominantly passive experiences, continual advances in network and computer technologies are providing tools for implementing greater interactivity and for enabling consumers to enjoy more exciting experiences, such as, for example, interactive digital TV, interactive theatre and orchestrated music and sound design. This phenomenon is pulling together an extremely diverse group of experts specializing in different technical areas, such as networking, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, games, animation, multimedia design, human-computer interaction, educational media and software engineering. Even though high-tech entertainment promotes interdisciplinary fusion, yet only the ubiquity of wireless/wired communication is considered!
suitable for accepting the challenge of building a large interactive environment for the delivery of the maximum entertainment value to millions of consumers worldwide. Call for Papers for IEEE Internet of Things Journal Special Issue on "
Mobile Crowd Sensing for IoT".
http://iot-journal.weebly.com/call-for-papers.html
AIMS AND SCOPE
--------------------------------
The ubiquitous sensor-rich mobile devices (smartphones, wearable
devices, smart vehicles) have been playing an increasing important role
in the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoTs), which bridge the
digital space and physical world at a societal scale. Their powerful
computing/communication capacities, huge population, and inherent
mobility makes mobile-device networks a much more flexible and
cost-effective IoT solution than static sensor networks. This promotes
the emergence of a fast-growing consumer-centric sensing paradigm, the
Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS). As an evolution of participatory sensing,
MCS has two unique features: (1) it involves both implicit and explicit
participation; (2) MCS collects data from two user-participant data
sources: mobile social networks and mobile sensing. Various categories
of knowledge (e.g. location, personal and social context, user
feelings/opinions, traffic conditions, and pollution) reported by smart
device users, are shared w!
ithin the social sphere, practitioners, health care providers, and
utility providers, enabling a broad range of applications and services
such as urban dynamic mining, public safety, and environment monitoring.
Numerous research challenges arise from the MCS paradigm including
participatory and opportunistic data collection, incentive mechanism
design, transient networking, quality of user-contributed data, privacy
concerns, and big data processing and analytics. This special issue
provides the opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and application
developers to review and discuss the state-of-the-art and trends of MCS
techniques and applications or propose new solutions. In particular, we
solicit high-quality original research papers on MCS, including but not
limited to the following topics:
- IoT Architecture/Framework for MCS
- Optimized Data Collection Task Allocation
- Communication in Transient Networking Environments
- Crowdsourced Data Processing and Urban/Social Context Mining
- Incentive Mechanisms for Participatory Sensing
- Heterogeneous Crowdsourced Data Fusion
- Dealing with Low Quality Data in MCS
- Trust and Privacy Issues in MCS
- MCS for Social Networking
- Hybrid Human-Machine Intelligence in MCS
- Emerging/Novel MCS Apps and Systems (environment monitoring, public
safety, traffic planning, etc.)
