Call for Papers for the 2nd International Workshop on
Wireless Sensor, Actuator and Robot Networks (WiSARN2010-FALL)
http://www.site.uottawa.ca/~xuli/WiSARN2010-FALL/
To be held in conjunction with theIEEE/ACM International Conference
on Cyber, Physical and Social Computing (CPSCom 2010)
October 30 - November 1, 2010, Hangzhou, China.
Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSAN) are the confluence point
where the traditional fields of wireless sensor networks (WSN),
robot networks and control theory meet. In WSAN, nodes collaborate
to accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by
the control and mobility of actors, the networking process and
applications embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may
deploy, repair and relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes
and fix network partition to ensure data communication, change network
topology to shape routing patterns and balance energy consumption,
and respond to reported events in a timely and effective manner.
The benefits are limited only by imagination. As an emerging field,
WSAN are in need of new networking techniques, by which they can fully
exploit their particularities and potentials. WiSARN aims to bring
together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification
and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for
current and future applications of WSAN.
Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in ALL aspects of
WSAN, WSN, robot networks, and robotics and automation. Possible topics
include, but are not limited to:
* Autonomous sensor networks
* Emergent behavior in WSAN
* Modeling and simulation of WSAN
* WSAN architectural and operational models
* Autonomic and self-organizing coordination and communication
* Sensor-actor (robot) and actor-actor coordination
* Energy-efficient and real-time communication protocols
* Bandwidth-efficient and delay-tolerant communication protocols
* Distributed control and management in WSAN
* Neighborhood discovery and mobility management
* Communication protocols for swarms of mobile actors (robots)
* Map exploration and pattern formation of mobile robots
* Actor (robot) task assignment
* Biologically inspired communication
* Ecological systems
* Architectures and topology control
* Localization in WSAN
* Probabilistic integration in WSAN
* Quality of service, security and robustness issues
* Applications and prototypes
* Hybrid networks and wireless Internet
* Data management, gathering, aggregation and query processing
Accepted papers with a FULL registration to the main conference will be
included in the conference proceedings. No-shows of accepted papers at
the workshop will result in those papers NOT being included in the IEEE
Digital Library. Selected best papers will be invited to a special issue
of Ad Hoc & Sensor Wireless Networks: an international journal.

The Fourth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks
December 16-17, 2010
Colombo, Sri Lanka
http://www.ucsc.cmb.ac.lk/realwsn10/
We are excited to announce that the fourth Workshop on Real-World
Wireless Sensor will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in December 2010.
The purpose of the fourth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor
Networks is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in
the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or
deployments of wireless sensor networks.
When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new
issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of
different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network
structures; software development for large scale networks poses new
types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from
the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a
complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore,
results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable
to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community
to produce results from experimental research.
Authors are invited to submit papers (12 pages, Springer format, 9 or
10 point font size) for presentation at the workshop. Papers will be
selected based on originality, technical merit and relevance.
All topics pertaining to real-world wireless sensor networks are of
interest, including but not limited to:

** CALL FOR PAPERS ***
-------------------------------------------------------
CFP: International Journal of Research and Reviews in Computer Science -
Special Issue on
“Nature-Inspired Optimization in Networking”
-------------------------------------------------------
Computer networking has become an active research fields in the last few
decades and many products have been realized through successful networking
research. Due to our demands for higher data rate and more seamless
connectivity, new technologies keep being developed and merchandised,
including wireless sensor networks, wireless mesh networks, social networks,
smart grid communications, etc. Therefore, many new problems have been
proposed and most of which can be formulated as optimization problems.
However, many such optimization problems do not have the corresponding good
algorithms developed or they are so hard (usually classified as NP-hard)
that no algorithm is available to find the optimal solution in polynomial
time.
Although it may be difficult to find the optimal solutions for these
problems, we can still approximate the best solutions with reasonably good
ones. When we focus on NP-hard problems and computation time is our concern,
approximate algorithms are the good choice. Since the evolutionary
computational approaches were developed in the past few decades, many works
rely on the nature-inspired algorithms to do optimization. The relatively
classical ones are Genetic Algorithm, Simulated Annealing, Artificial Immune
System, Ant Colony Optimization, and Particle Swarm Optimization, etc. Some
recently proposed algorithms include Harmony Search, Bee Algorithm,
Bacterial Foraging Optimization, Group Search Optimization,
Biogeography-based Optimization, Chemical Reaction Optimization, etc.
This special issue is focused on highlighting the nature-inspired techniques
to solve optimization for designing computer networks. They should
demonstrate advantages or improvements in some aspects over the existing
methods. The goal is to develop nature-inspired approaches which enhance the
adaptability, autonomicity, and scalability of any kinds of computer
networks. We also welcome submissions that demonstrate real-world experience
in and theoretical works on applying nature-inspired optimization techniques
to networking research problems.

• Cross-layer design and interactions
• Centralized/distributed radio resource management in wireless mesh
networks
• Service-oriented and QoS support for smart grid
• Energy-efficient transmission switching and routing for smart grid
communications
• Multicast for smart grid
• Green computing systems

CALL FOR PAPERS
------------------------------
With recent developments in wireless access, sensor, and mobile device
technologies, the mobility of users, terminals, and networks has
become an indispensable component of today's Internet vision. Wireless
access devices already outnumber stationary Internet hosts and an
increasing share of traffic traverses at least one wireless link.
These trends can be expected to continue in the near future and call
for a reexamination of the architectural design of the current and
future internets. The current TCP/IP architecture was originally
designed for communication between stationary mainframes and servers,
and later used for wired PCs. While Mobile IP and the IPv6 mobility
extensions have sought to evolve the current architecture to provide
support for connections under device mobility, their adoption has
lagged behind expectations. This lack of adoption and additional
challenges posed by mobility have led to renewed interest in a
clean-slate design that comprehensively addresses mobility, free of
existing architectural constraints. A clean-slate design requires
rethinking current architectural foundations like the end-to-end
principle as well as associated Internet business models. It requires
addressing issues such as efficient mobility management and
optimization, locator-identifier split, multi-homing, security,
transport over wireless access and related operational/deployment
concerns. Moreover, the architecture will also need to include new
services to meet the changed needs of the majority of mobile
applications.
MobiArch 2010 welcomes submissions from both researchers and
practitioners that explore challenges or advances in architectures,
protocols, and technologies to address mobility in the current
Internet or in future clean-slate Internets. We especially welcome
position papers that describe highly original ideas, discuss new
directions, or generate insightful discussion at the workshop.
Topics of MobiArch 2010 cover all aspects of architectural issues and
system support for mobility in the Internet, including but not limited
to:
* Impact of new wireless technologies/services, networking
technologies, and mobility patterns on the Internet architecture
* Architectures and protocols for mobility support in the
Internet, ranging from link to application layers or cross-layer
design solutions
* Addressing and routing issues (e.g., locator/identifier split,
content routing, multi-homing)
* Location management, representation of geolocation, and support
for location-aware application and protocols
* Security and privacy issues in mobile networks and impact on
Internet architecture
* Role of network virtualization in mobile Internet architecture
* Economic, regulation, and deployment issues of mobility
solutions (infrastructure and devices)
Submissions must present original results. Selected papers will be
forward-looking, describe their relationship to existing work, and
have impact and implications for ongoing or future research.
PAPER SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
--------------------------------------------------------
Submitted papers must be no more than 6 pages long, double column,
with 10 point font or larger, and must fit properly on US
"Letter"-sized paper (8.5x11 inches). Margins must be of 1 inch on all
edges (top, bottom, left, and right) of each page. Papers will be
reviewed single blind. Paper submission will be handled through EDAS,

***** IEEE SECON'10 *****
June 21-25, 2010. Boston, MA.
http://www.ieee-secon.org/posters.html
CALL FOR DEMOS
Extended deadline: May 7th, 2010.
IEEE SECON 2010 will include a demo sessions that shall provide a forum
to present and discuss: works in progress, industry demonstrations of
new applications and techniques, practical implementations, industrial
and commercial developments, research testbeds and demonstrations,
recent research/implementation results, upcoming research challenges,
future directions, and novel approaches in the fields of sensor, mesh
and ad hoc communications and networks. One of the key goals of this
conference is to foster collaboration between industry and academia.
Hence, participation of researchers/developers from industry and
posters/demonstrations reporting joint work between industry and
academia are especially encouraged.
Submissions should be in the form of a proposal describing the main
contributions of the demo and the merits of the proposed ideas. If
available, preliminary results can also be included. Proposals will be
evaluated mainly based on their potential to stimulate interesting
discussions, exchange of ideas and promote collaborations. Submissions
should not be more than three pages (preferably IEEE conference format,
2-column) in length. Demonstration submissions should include the space
requirements and/or any other equipment-specific requirements. The
documents must contain the authors' names, affiliations, and contact
information and the designated corresponding author.
Accepted authors of demos will have a space in the poster/demo session
room to display their posters or exhibit their demos and describe their
work in discussions with interested attendees. Moreover, the abstract of
the accepted demos will appear in IEEE Xplore. IEEE Communications
Society policy states that all accepted IEEE SECON 2010 demos require at
least a one day registration. For authors co-authoring multiple demos, a
one day registration is valid for up to three presentations. In
addition, there needs to be at least one person per demo registered for
one day in order for the abstract to appear in IEEE Xplore.
Extended Submission: May, 7 (Friday), 2010
Notification: May, 14 (Friday), 2010
Demo proposals should be emailed to:
secon10demos(a)docomolabs-usa.com
Please include "SECON 2010 demo" in the subject of your email.

Internet Computing Special Issue
Internet Workloads: Measurement, Characterization and Modeling
(Mar/Apr 2011)
Final submissions due 1 July 2010
Please email the guest editors a brief description of the article you
plan to submit by 15 June 2010
Guest Editors: Virgilio A. F. Almeida (virgilio(a)dcc.ufmg.br) and
Jussara M. Almeida (jussara(a)dcc.ufmg.br)
The Internet has a number of popular applications and services
experiencing workloads with very different, non-trivial and unique
properties.
Examples are online social networking and Web 2.0, e-business, search,
streaming, malware, Peer-to-Peer, grid, and mobile applications.
Real workload characterization and modeling provide key insights
into the cost-effective design, operation, and management of Internet-
based
services and systems. Nevertheless, some of the most fundamental
concepts and methods related to the characteristics of real Internet
workloads
are largely unknown to most Internet/Web practitioners. This is
further aggravated by the limited availability of real representative
workloads
for analysis, either due to privacy restrictions imposed by service
providers or due to the inherent limitations of partial/local
workloads in face
of the global nature of Internet applications. As a result, many
Internet-based systems and services are designed and built without
exploring the
inherent properties of their workloads.
This special issue of IC seeks original articles addressing relevant
aspects of real Internet workloads, looking at measurement and
collection of workloads, characterization and modeling. Articles can
be from research, operations, management, or architecture viewpoints.
Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:
workload sampling and measurement techniques;
workload characterization techniques and results;
workload modeling approaches;
strategies to achieve representativeness under partial workloads;
privacy preserving issues;
synthetic workload generators;
workload temporal evolution and prediction schemes; and
case studies.
