Our experiences from recent INSS conferences revealed that they promote intense and fruitful discussions with interested participants from industry and academia to exchange knowledge, novel methodologies, new concepts and new perceptions directly. The wide range topic of sensor network related research includes e.g. sensor technology, hardware platforms, networking, security, middleware, applications, programming and architecture, but is not limited to them. Submissions from both industries and universities are encouraged. Posters and Demos Submission Instructions In case a demonstrator of your sensor network and/or computer hard- and software is available and adequate for transport, we invite you to submit a short paper (max. 4 pages) for a Demo presentation. In case a demonstrator is not available or not adequate for transport, we invite you to submit a short paper (max. 2 pages) for a Poster contribution. Please send your paper including the description of your demo in PDF to Dr. Michael Schwarz (info.rs_1(a)uni-kassel.de) and send your paper including the description of your poster in PDF to Sabrina Schudy (Schudy(a)ina.uni-kassel.de) with the subject line reading "INSS Demo Submission" or "INSS Poster Submission". Posters and Demos Presentation and Publication Information Accepted Demo and Poster contributions will be presented in a separate session. In addition, we invite conference participants giving oral presentations to present a Poster or a Demo, in addition. This will promote additional intense discussions on those topics. Short papers of accepted Demo and Poster contributions will be published in the conference proceedings. Participants giving already an oral presentation and which have registered for a Poster or Demo presentation in addition, do not need to submit a second paper. These participants register for a Poster or Demo by an e-mail to the demo/poster chairs (Schudy: Schudy(a)ina.uni-kassel.de; Schwarz: info.rs_1(a)uni-kassel.de). A demo contribution consists of a poster and a table with the demonstrator in front of the poster. Electric power supplies (230V, 50Hz) are available. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), in their various shapes and forms, have greatly facilitated and enhanced the automated, remote, and intelligent monitoring of a large variety of physical systems. These networks consist of a large number of typically small devices, each incorporating sensing, processing, and wireless communications capabilities. Their use has penetrated a plethora of application domains from industrial and building automation, to environmental, wildlife, and health monitoring. The control and systems community has played an important role in the maturing of WSNs addressing issues related to their fundamental limits and designing strategies to optimize and control their operation so as to improve performance. Performance encompasses a variety of metrics that may vary with the application but in all cases includes the network's energy use which determines its usable lifetime. As WSN nodes are powered by small batteries, energy conservation has become a very important concern. Equally importantly, the existence of WSNs has provided a major application context to theoretical contributions of the control community including cooperative and distributed control, event-based monitoring, discrete- event systems, and consensus algorithms. What is emerging as the next step in the WSN evolution is their use not only in monitoring but also in controlling a physical system. To that end, some of the WSN nodes have to be augmented by integrating actuators. Actuators can be simple devices programmed to take immediate, one-shot, action in response to sensory input, or they can be more sophisticated entities (like robots) that interact with their environment in more complex ways. The resulting augmented version of WSNs is commonly referred to as Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (WSANs). WSANs are therefore heterogeneous networks that comprise of networked sensor and actuator nodes that communicate among each other using wireless links to perform distributed sensing and actuation tasks. WSANs can be used to close loops over the network in a variety of applications, such as, environmental control, event detection and suppression, home automation, manufacturing, microclimate control, surveillance etc. The control community has recently made important contributions in understanding control over communication channels but this work has, for the most part, abstracted the communication medium. A new challenge is to consider a WSAN as the communications channel over which we seek to close control loops. Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSAN) are the confluence point where the traditional fields of wireless sensor networks (WSN), robot networks and control theory meet. In WSAN, nodes collaborate to accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by the control and mobility of actors, the networking process and applications embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may deploy, repair and relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes and fix network partition to ensure data communication, change network topology to shape routing patterns and balance energy consumption, and respond to reported events in a timely and effective manner. The benefits are limited only by imagination. As an emerging field, WSAN are in need of new networking techniques, by which they can fully exploit their particularities and potentials. WiSARN aims to bring together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for current and future applications of WSAN. Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in ALL aspects of WSAN, WSN, robot networks, and robotics and automation. Wireless Sensors Networks are a significant current technology, attracting considerable research interest from various disciplines. Indeed, wireless sensor technology is employed in emerging areas with high potential for scientific research, and is used for biomedical, environmental or industrial applications. These applications generally require intelligent dense environment monitoring which generates important data volumes. Data collection and analysis need to deal with cooperation and coordination topics in order to prolong network lifetime and to provide useful, synthesized information for automation, decision making and support. Topology control, by means of clusters or groups, is another applied technique to overcome these challenging problems. The 3^rd International Workshop on Distributed Collaborative Sensors Networks will focus on the research of developing collaboration infrastructures and solutions in the context of wireless sensors networks, aiming to bring together researchers and practitioners in these fields. In addition, the workshop will highlight recent innovative research results which will strengthen the formal foundation of this emerging area. This workshop is to be held as part of the 2010 International Symposium on Collaborative Technologies and Systems (CTS10). This opens new ways for mobile users to get connected to each other. In particular, users have more and more the possibility to spontaneously establish direct links between them without the support of a preexisting infrastructure. Due to the natural mobility of the users, it is likely that the resulting topology be intermittently connected. This leads to two main issues. First, nodes must find a way to benefit from contact opportunities whenever possible. Second, given that inter-contact times are unpredictable, applications must better \textit{tolerate delays. In practice, opportunistic and delay-tolerant networks are much closer to real situations than the legacy mobile ad hoc networks. But this comes at the cost of more challenging problems, as traditional communication architectures, commonly based on the end-to-end principle, are not adapted to intermittently connected scenarios. Although the research community has provided major contributions in this area, there are still a lot of questions that remain unanswered. These questions are both related to the understanding of the fundamental aspects of such networks and how to make them become a reality and coexist with other networks. The goal of the proposed special issue is to help filling this gap by presenting contributions ranging from theoretical foundations to practical experiences in opportunistic and delay-tolerant networks. As we intend to focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of these networks, papers presenting insights covering all levels of the communication architecture will be welcome. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Architectural principles of opportunistic and delay-tolerant networks. - Mathematical foundations of challenged networks. - Participatory and opportunistic sensor networks. - Tools and techniques for designing, analyzing, and building opportunistic networks. - Experimental deployments and measurement campaigns. - Investigation of new interaction patterns among users.
