SH 2010 Call for Papers
==========================
The Fifth International Symposium on Smart Home
In Conjunction with FutureTech 2010. May 21-23, 2010. Busan, Korea
http://www.ftrg.org/sh2010/index.php
Smart Home Environments (SHEs) are emerging rapidly as an exciting new
paradigm including ubiquitous, grid, and peer-to-peer computing to
provide computing and communication services any time and anywhere. To
full realize the advantages of the paradigm, we require a host of
suitable security services and their applications. They will offer the
user remote access to all information about appliances in the workplace
as well as at home, and help easily and conveniently use various
services to enable working from home, and facilitate remote education,
remote diagnosis, virtual shopping, network gaming, and portal & high
quality VOD with no limitations on space and time. SH-2010 is intended
to foster the dissemination of state-of-the-art research in the area of
SHE including business models, security services, and novel applications
associated with its utilization. As a follow-up of the symposium, we
plan to publish high quality papers, covering the various
theories and practical applications related to smart home. The
published papers are expected to present the high level results to solve
the application services and various problems in the various SH fields.
In addition, we expect they will trigger further related research and
technological improvements of the SH. The goal of the SH-2010 is to
bring together the researchers from academia and industry as well as
practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the
multifaceted aspects of Information Technology.
We invite new and original submissions addressing theoretical and
practical topics in information technology and intelligent computing

Call for Papers
The First International Workshop on QoS enabled Sensor Networks (QoS2N)
in conjunction with the 11th International Conference on Mobile Data
Management (MDM's 2010)
May 23-26, 2010, Kansas City, USA
http://q2s.ntnu.no/events/qos2n/start
Submission deadline: February 14, 2010
***************************************************************************
Data management in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is challenging,
especially with mobile sensor nodes joining or leaving the network at
will. Recently it has become increasingly popular to utilize sensor
networks for providing various services, e.g., audio/video surveillance,
real-time monitoring, etc. Such WSN functionality demands the Quality of
Service (QoS) guarantees in terms of delay, jitter, loss, or throughput
using intelligent resource reservation schemes, policy-based service
provision, etc. Enabling QoS guarantees in large-scale WSNs, while
utilizing the network resources in the most efficient way, is critical
for the success and life-time of the service-oriented WSNs.
Providing QoS in WSNs involves addressing various technological issues,
e.g., inherent limitations of sensors, varying network loads, network
congestion, multi-path routing, changing channel capacity as a function
of environment, time, and interference from neighbors, mobility and
cross-layer design, etc. In addition, the trade-off between predictable
network behavior and network lifetime, as well as between policy-based
route selection and load distribution need further investigation.
Privacy of sensor information is also a concern since multiple sensors
share/access a common media. QoS2N workshop aims at providing a platform
for discussing the above issues, recent challenges and solutions, and
directions for future research on enabling QoS in WSNs. Researchers,
professionals and application developers from industry and academia are
welcome to exchange ideas, discuss results, and share experience in a
broad range of topics related to QoS and sensor
networking. Both theoretical and practical experience papers are
solicited. Work-in-progress and position papers are welcome.
The topics of interest in the setting of wireless sensor networks
include but are not limited to
• Algorithms and protocol to support QoS in wireless sensor networks
• QoS metrics
• QoS routing
• User perceived quality
• Game theoretical model and communication
• QoS schemes at the data link layer and the network layer
• Cross-layer architecture
• Policy-based routing
• Class adaptation schemes
• Admission control, resource allocation and fairness
• Real-time scheduling and planning
• Power management and energy-efficient design
• Networking protocols and architectures
• Image quality in video-surveillance sensor networks
• Provisioning of QoS (bandwidth and delay) in multimedia sensor systems
• Performance modeling and simulation techniques
• Delay tolerant networks and opportunistic networking
• Data Management of RFID system
• Privacy and security
We solicit original unpublished work written in English that is not
currently under review at another venue. The submitted long papers
should be no more than 6 pages and the short and position papers should
be no more than 3 pages. All papers follow IEEE two-column style format
and are subject to peer review by at least two experts in the same
field. Papers must be saved as PDF files and submitted via
https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/QOSN2010/ . All accepted long papers
as well as all short/position papers will be in the IEEE proceedings. At
least one author of each accepted paper must attend the workshop for
presentation.

Call for Papers for the 1st International Workshop on
Wireless Sensor, Actuator and Robot Networks (WiSARN-2010)
http://www.site.uottawa.ca/~xuli/WiSARN2010/
To be held in conjunction with the
IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and
Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM 2010)
June 14-17, 2010, Montreal, Canada.
Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSAN) are the confluence point
where the traditional fields of wireless sensor networks (WSN),
robot networks and control theory meet. In WSAN, nodes collaborate
to accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by
the control and mobility of actors, the networking process and
applications embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may
deploy, repair and relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes
and fix network partition to ensure data communication, change network
topology to shape routing patterns and balance energy consumption,
and respond to reported events in a timely and effective manner.
The benefits are limited only by imagination. As an emerging field,
WSAN are in need of new networking techniques, by which they can fully
exploit their particularities and potentials. WiSARN aims to bring
together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification
and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for
current and future applications of WSAN.
Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in ALL aspects of
WSAN, WSN, robot networks, and robotics and automation. Possible topics
include, but are not limited to:
* Autonomous sensor networks
* Emergent behavior in WSAN
* Modeling and simulation of WSAN
* WSAN architectural and operational models
* Autonomic and self-organizing coordination and communication
* Sensor-actor (robot) and actor-actor coordination
* Energy-efficient and real-time communication protocols
* Bandwidth-efficient and delay-tolerant communication protocols
* Distributed control and management in WSAN
* Neighborhood discovery and mobility management
* Communication protocols for swarms of mobile actors (robots)
* Map exploration and pattern formation of mobile robots
* Actor (robot) task assignment

CFP: Second International Workshop on Planning and Optimization of Wireless Communication Networks (PlanNet2010)
In conjunction with the IEEE //Wireless Communications & Networking Conference (WCNC) 2010, 18-21 April, Sydney, Australia
Aim of the Workshop
The aim of the workshop is to bring together both the mobile communications industry (operators, telecom vendors, radio network planning and optimization consulting firms and tool producers) and academia to present and discuss the problems, challenges, directions, and state-of-art in the fields of future wireless communication networks deployment, planning and optimization. The workshop will try to build a bridge between the mobile communications industry and academic research so that future collaborations between two sectors can be identified. The goal of future wireless networks is to provide ubiquitous connections and support high data rate demand. The WiMAX, LTE, and LTE-Advanced standardizations have already processed toward this direction but still require significant improvements. Network planning and optimization faces many challenges arising from the use of new air interfaces and new technologies (e.g., MIMO, smart antennas, cooperative relay), the mix of voice, vide
o and data traffic, the co-existence of different RATs (Radio Access Technologies), the growing importance of indoor coverage and the paradigm shifts (e.g., femtocells). The future wireless networks cannot operate efficiently, unless these challenges are properly addressed.
In this workshop, the advances of wireless communications that enable future wireless networks and challenges in network planning and optimization arising from the adoption of new technologies will be discussed. PlanNet seeks papers dealing with architectural issues, theoretical studies, new paradigms, enabling technologies, practical implementations, and policy issues for future wireless communications and network planning and optimization problems. Besides the technical insights, the workshop will provide a supportive environment for technical discussions between like-minded researchers and engineers.
