HotMobile 2010
The Eleventh Workshop on Mobile Computing, Systems, and Applications
Annapolis, MD, USA
February 22-23, 2010
http://www.hotmobile.org/2010/
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
Preliminary Call for Papers
ACM HotMobile 2010, the eleventh Workshop on Mobile Computing Systems
and Applications continues the series of highly selective, interactive
workshops focused on mobile applications, systems, and environments,
as well as their underlying state-of-the-art technologies. HotMobile's
small workshop format makes it ideal for presenting and discussing new
directions or controversial approaches.
We solicit submissions of position papers that focus primarily on
applications and systems and that propose new directions of research,
advocate non-traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate
controversy and discussion. We particularly look for position papers
containing highly original ideas in the following topic areas,
although papers describing other challenges unique to or exacerbated
by mobility are also welcome:
* Operating system and distributed systems support for mobile
computing
* Coordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of mobile
devices
* Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility
* HCI issues related to mobile computing
* Security and privacy of mobile computing
* Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting
mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if
they focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a
system or application.
HotMobile 2010 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will
be judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance,
and likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the workshop
Presentation at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on
research ideas that are a year or more from submission as a full
conference paper to the ACM MobiSys conference or other high-quality
conferences. Submitting a full-length paper on the same topic to
MobiSys in less than a year is unlikely to involve a sufficient
increment of work and maturity of ideas. To encourage an atmosphere
conducive to participation, attendance will be limited to 70
participants. Authors of submitted papers and accepted demo proposals
will be given first priority, with others able to register on a
space-available basis.
Important Dates
Paper submission due: October 12, 2009
Acceptance notification: To be announced
Revised papers due: To be announced
Paper submissions are due by 23:59 PDST on Monday October 12, 2009.
Paper Submission Instructions
Paper submissions are due on Oct 12th 2009 at 23:59:59 PDST (Pacific
Daylight Savings Time). Submissions should contain 6 or fewer
U.S. letter pages in PDF format, including all references, figures and
tables. Papers should use the standard ACM template, available at:
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
The workshop proceedings will be published by the ACM and distributed
at the workshop on a USB memory stick.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may

CALL FOR PAPERS
LOCAN 2009
The 5th International Workshop on Localized Communication
and Topology Protocols for Ad hoc Networks
http://www.site.uottawa.ca/~xuli/locan2009
In conjunction with MSN, 14-16, Dec. 2009
Wu Yi Mountain, China
Subject and Purpose of the Workshop
-----------------------------------
This workshop covers comprehensively the algorithmic issues in the hot area
of ad hoc and sensor networking. In particular, sensor networks are
currently recognized as one of the priority research areas and research
activities are booming recently.
The workshop scope includes network layer problems like data communication
(routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and
topology control (neighbor discovery, power adjustment, neighbor
elimination, etc.). The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or
greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols requiring global
information. Localized algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple
local node behavior achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols
provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks with an
arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this plan. Sensor and
rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or thousands of nodes.
The objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research
results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing area
of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques

2010 International Workshop on Ubiquitous Body Sensor Networks
(UBSN 2010)
http://sites.google.com/site/ubsn2010
In conjunction with
The 5th International Wireless Internet Conference
(WICON 2010)
http://www.wicon.org/
============================================================
Overview
Recently, there has been increased investigation into new types of
wireless sensor
networks located on or around the human body, which are generally known
as body
sensor networks (BSNs). Following continuous advances in wireless
communication
technologies, there has been growing interest in the design, development
and deployment
of BSN systems in applications for improving people's daily life, which
has led to
an increased demand for interconnecting BSNs with other emerging
wireless technologies,
such as RFID technology, wireless sensor networks (WSNs), Zigbee,
Bluetooth, WiBree,
video surveillance systems, WPAN, WLAN, the Internet, and cellular
networks. With BSNs
being incorporated into these technologies, BSNs have become ubiquitous.
As a result
of this, and due to an increased demand for advanced e-healthcare
management systems
in recent years, the marketing opportunities for advanced consumer
electronics and
related services have greatly increased. More and more autonomous and
intelligent
applications which are closely integrated with a person's everyday life
are being
generated. For example, by using BSNs to collect patient information,
and by deploying
diverse wireless networking systems for enhanced diagnostic assistance
and action
handling, better e-healthcare management systems can be designed for
providing more
desirable services.
In this workshop, we solicit research papers (regular papers and
posters) on hardware
for body sensors, system architectures, networking and communication
protocols,
applications, testbeds and prototypes, biomedical sensor data processing
and sensor
data management. In particular, we are interested in the following
communication issues:
* Intra-BSN Communication: The term "intra-BSN communication" defines
communications
directly related to the user (within radio coverage of about 2 meters),
which consists
of two categories: (1) the communications amongst the body sensors,
which are deployed
strategically on the human body, implanted inside the body, or attached
within in the
person's clothing; (2) the communication between the body sensors and
the portable
personal server, which typically can be a cell phone, PDA or headset.
* Inter-BSN communication: The term "inter-BSN communication" defines
communications
between the personal server and one or more access points. The access
point can be
deployed as a part of a home or work infrastructure, or strategically
placed within
a dynamic environment for handling emergency situations. Inter-BSN
communications
will interconnect BSNs with the wide range of networks which are easily
accessible
in daily life.
* Beyond-BSN communication: Beyond-BSN communication is used to
interconnect a BSN
with the outside world, which enhances the application possibilities and
brings the
coverage / range of body sensor systems a step further via pervasive
communication
technologies, such as the Internet and cellular networks.
The objective of this workshop is to bring together state-of-the-art
research
contributions, tutorials, and position papers that address these key
aspects of
Ubiquitous Body Sensor Networks. Original papers describing completed
and unpublished
work not currently under review by any other
journal/magazine/conference/workshop are
solicited. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* New applications of ubiquitous body-sensor networks, e.g., healthcare
and consumer
electronics applications
* Remote health/fitness monitoring in ubiquitous body sensor networks,
e.g., location
and mobility issues
* Ambulatory monitoring (activity monitoring, fall detection, cardiac
and wellbeing
monitoring) and BSN assisted rehabilitation, bio-motion, wellbeing
analysis and
clinical applications
* Emerging engineering issues and wearable, implantable/ingestible
sensor integration
and development platforms, e.g., new operating systems, middleware, etc.

biophysical,
and mechanical sensors

ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR PAPERS
The Second ACM International Workshop on Mobile
Opportunistic Networking
MobiOpp 2010
February 22-23, 2010, Pisa, Italy
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mobiopp2010
sponsored by ACM/SIGMOBILE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Opportunistic Networking is one of the emerging communication paradigms
in wireless mobile communications. Opportunistic networks are commonly
defined as a type of challenged networks where communication
opportunities are based on sporadic and intermittent contacts,
disconnections and re-connections may frequently occur, and the
assumption on the existence of an end-to-end path between the source and
the destination is released. As compared to the legacy MANETs, where an
always-connected infrastructure-less network is assumed, opportunistic
networks are much closer to real pervasive networking scenarios, where
devices (with sensing capabilities) are carried while users move, and
can connect and disconnect continuously relying their communication
chances on a store-carry-and-forward approach. The aim of MobiOpp 2010
is to bring together researchers working in this emerging area, thus
also providing a reference event for those working on self-organizing
wireless mobile networks which usually exploit the opportunistic
communication paradigm. In this workshop we aim to explore novel
research issues related to all aspects of opportunistic networks.
Original contributions are solicited, being related to systems and
protocols design, development and analysis, in all areas of
Opportunistic Networking. Topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:
* Novel architectures
* Routing protocols
* Transport and reliability issues in opportunistic networks
* Resource management techniques
* Dissemination and replication techniques
* Opportunistic networking in P2P systems
* Social-aware opportunisitc networking
* Middleware services in opportunistic networks
* Opportunistic networking applications
* Opportunistic networking in wireless sensor networks
* Multimodal urban sensing
* Security issues in opportunistic networks
* Trust and cooperation in opportunistic networks
* Mobility models for opportunistic networks
* Tools and techniques for designing, analyzing and building
opportunistic networks
* Opportunistic networks testbeds and measurements
* Opportunistic networks performance modeling
The workshop proceedings will be published by ACM. Extended versions of
workshop selected papers will be considered for possible fast track
publication in the Computer Communications Journal (Elsevier)

Scope and Motivation
Advances in computing and communication technology, rapid growth in communication infrastructure and proliferation of multimedia capable computing devices, have opened up unprecedented opportunities in the application space. In recently years, Mobile TV, IPTV, Peer to Peer Video (e.g. PPLive, PPStream), online video repositories (e.g, Youtube, Tudou), social network applications (e.g, MySpace, Mixi), and online gaming and virtual reality (e.g. 2nd Life) are becoming popular. Multimedia and especially video is becoming the dominating traffic over the network. These applications present new challenges to multimedia network architecture, management and operations, especially the resource management, mobility, and content intelligence issues. New enabling technologies and solutions are being investigated and developed in both academia and industry.
This symposium solicits relevant recent contributions with topics including but are not limited to:
1. Web Services and distributed SW technology
2. Distributed systems and applications, incl. Grid Services
3. Home Network Service Platform
4. Mobile Services and Service Platforms
5. Service Creation, Delivery, Management
6. Context Awareness and Personalization
7. Modelling and Learning in Social Networks
8. Mobile Video Service and Mobile TV
9. IPTV, Peer to Peer Content Delivery System
