and communication in wireless networks. The focus of SECON is novel
communication technologies and emerging applications and services,
involving mobile sensing and communication, cyber-physical systems, and
ubiquitous and pervasive computing.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Papers describing original, previously unpublished research work,
experimental efforts, practical experiences, and industrial and
commercial developments in all aspects of sensor and wireless
communications and networking are solicited. Within this domain,
particular topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Software Defined Networking for mobile and wireless networks
• Network coding, MIMO, compressed sending
• White space, cooperative and cognitive communications
• Novel smartphone-based sensing systems, tools, applications and
experiences
• Novel applications: cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things,
distributed mobile computing
• New technologies, e.g. UWB, RFID, NFC, visible light & underwater
communications
• Low power and energy limited sensing and communications, including
energy-harvesting
• Cellular communications and data networks
• Mesh, ad-hoc, vehicular, and disruption tolerant networks
• Measurement of wireless and sensor systems, and novel experimental
testbeds
• Security, privacy, and trustworthiness of mobile, wireless and sensor
systems
• Survivability, network management, and fault tolerance
• Modeling, algorithms, and performance evaluation
• MAC, network, transport, application protocols and cross-layer design
PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
Papers should neither have been published elsewhere nor currently under
review by another conference or journal. All papers for IEEE SECON 2014
must be submitted electronically via the EDAS system: http://edas.info/.
Papers must be no longer than 9 pages and in font size no smaller than
10 points. Additional paper submittal instructions can be found on the
conference web-site: http://www.ieee-secon.org. Papers that violate the
format guidelines will be rejected without review.
To be published in the IEEE SECON 2014 Conference Proceedings and IEEE
Xplore®, an author of an accepted paper is required to register for the
conference at the full or limited (member or non-member) rate. Each
paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference
unless the TPC Chairs grant permission for a substitute presenter.
Non-refundable registration fees must be paid prior to uploading the
final IEEE formatted, publication-ready version of the paper. For

*/IEEE Communications Magazine, User-centric Networking and Services/*
/User-centric networks (UCNs)/ are a recent architectural trend of
self-organizing, autonomic networks where the Internet end-user
cooperates by sharing network services and resources. UCNs are
spontaneous and grassroots deployments of wireless architectures (e.g.,
ad-hoc or infrastructure), often involving low-cost deployment.
Furthermore, users in such environments tend to roam frequently. In such
roaming environments, users carry equipment that plays an active role in
terms of topology changes (e.g., an LTE phone which is sharing Internet
access to other surrounding devices, may become active or inactive
without operator control). Common to user-centric environments is a
social behaviour that heavily impacts network operation from an
end-to-end perspective, and on the different layers of the OSI stack.
UCNs empower the end-user as a new Internet stakeholder and not just as
a consumer and producer of content. User-centric networking technologies
can be applied to a wide range of scenarios, encompassing: i) sharing
subscribed broadband Internet access; ii) providing support for better
Internet connectivity; iii) allowing the use of communication services
even in the absence of reliable Internet access; iv) assisting
networking services based on user involvement for the detection and
repair of communication problems.
The new role of an empowered end-user is disruptive in several aspects,
namely: i) in the end-to-end Internet paradigm, end-user devices will
actively participate as a network element in addition to being an
endpoint host; ii) network boundaries of trust will need to be extended
in a way that should mimic social behavior; and iii) end-user devices
should be capable of handling intermittent Internet connectivity as well
as fast and transparent roaming between micro-operators. There is also
the need to further understand wholesale models incorporating UCNs, as
well as to understand the impact of UCNs in the context of standardization.
This special issue is accepting papers on the topics including, but not
limited to, the following:
* To promote unprecedented approaches and techniques in participatory
and opportunistic data collection, communication, analysis, and
visualization;
* To identify open issues which remain a challenge towards the
convergence of information and communication technologies, privacy
protection methods, social and psychological theories in MCS;
* To exploit novel application areas and demonstrate the benefits of
MCS in contrast with more traditional static sensing approaches.
*Topics may include (but are not limited to):*
* Community detection and social interaction
* Dynamic trust management models
* Cooperation incentive models
* Distributed mobility management
* Human behavior and mobility prediction
* Virtual currency architectures and models
* Resource management in spontaneous environments
* Cooperative networking
* Market impact and analysis of UCN integration
* Standardization aspects in regards to UCN topics such as user
liability, authentication, and highly efficient WLANs.

Workshop on Emerging Wireless Technologies for Future Mobile Networks
Call for Workshop Papers: MobiQuitous 2013
December 2-4, 2013, Tokyo, Japan
http://mobiquitous.org/2013/show/wip-papers
SCOPE
To alleviate the capacity crunch in mobile networks, emerging wireless
technologies aimed to improve spectrum efficiency; network efficiency
and energy efficiency are being actively studied and developed in both
wireless academia and industry. To succeed, effort is envisioned to come
from multiple dimensions including 1) spectrum efficiency enhancement,
2) small cell deployment and 3) novel network architectures. First,
advanced multiple antenna technology such as massive
multiple-input-multiple output (MIMO), virtual MIMO, full-dimensional
MIMO and 3-D beamforming are promising techniques to enhance per-user
spectrum efficiency and system capacity. Second, by deploying dense
small cells within the local-area range and bringing the network closer
to end-users, small cell and heterogeneous networks (HetNets) can
potentially improve spectrum resource reuse, spatial resource reuse and
communication coverage, thus allowing future mobile networks to achieve
higher data rates, while retaining the seamless connectivity and
mobility of current mobile network deployments. In addition, from
network side, new and novel network architectures such as soft-defined
network, cloud-RAN (radio access network) and cognitive radio networks
as well as the enabling technologies including virtualization in
wireless networks, optical wireless integration, and distributed antenna
systems can further improve network efficiency and user experience. The
goal of this workshop is to bring together researches which focus on
emerging wireless technologies that improve spectrum efficiency, energy
efficiency and network efficiency for future mobile networks.
TOPICS
We are seeking papers that present original and unpublished
contributions addressing various emerging wireless technologies for
future mobile networks. The topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:
• Massive MIMO, virtual MIMO, 3-D MIMO/beamforming technologies
• Self-organization, -configuration and -optimization for small cell
networks
• Interference coordination and radio resource management in small cell
and HetNets
• Load-balancing and traffic offloading schemes in small cell and
HetNets
• Handover and mobility study in small cell and HetNets
• Virtualization in wireless networks
• Spectrum sharing and network efficiency for cognitive radio networks
• Spectrum efficiency, network efficiency and energy efficiency in
cloud-RAN

*The Third International Workshop on Computing and Networking for Internet
of Things (ComNet-IoT 2014)*
http://www.amrita.edu/icdcn/comnet.html*
*
Internet of Things (IoT) has been considered as an innovative and imminent
information infrastructure enabling to ubiquitously network various
machines, physical devices, and objects, denoted as things, for environment
sensing, information sharing and collaboration in intelligent and
autonomous manner. Such technologies will act as a catalyst to the
evolution of a new generation of services that will have a great impact on
the social and technological eco-system. It can be envisaged that these
next generation systems and services will encompass several domains such as
e-Governance, Health Care, Transportation, Waste Management, Food Supply
Chains, Energy & Utilities, Insurance etc. New technologies and
applications built on top of them must be developed in order to fulfil this
vision of Intelligent Infrastructure. IoT poses a number of new challenges
and opportunities for computing, networking, data management and analytics
due to the large scale and complexity of such systems, and heterogeneity of
the things and networks, constrained by limited resources of the things and
the network.
Encouraged by the great success of ComNet-IoT 2013 in conjunction with
ICDCN 2013 - http://www.icdcn.org/, the goal of CoMNet-IoT 2014 is to
provide an inter-disciplinary platform for researchers to exchange ideas,
present results, share experience, stimulate new research, and foster
collaborations among researchers, professionals, and application developers
on the various aspects of sensing, computing, networking, information and
distributed systems technologies for IoT, including back-end infrastructure
such as the Cloud. Topics of interests include but are not limited to the
following areas related to IoT:
- Processing and Networking at Edge: Sensing and sensor signal
processing, sensor networking protocols, energy harvesting and energy

*FG Betriebssysteme*
DEADLINEVERLÄNGERUNG
Herbsttreffen der GI/ITG-Fachgruppe Betriebssysteme
7.-8. November 2013
Themen:
* Multicore/Manycore Architekturen
* Asymmetrische/Heterogene Multicore Architekturen
* Energiebewusstes Ressourcenmanagement
* Modulares/erweiterbares Design
Ihres Beitrags direkt an Jan Richling
(jan.richling(a)tu-berlin.de <mailto:jan.richling@tu-berlin.de>).

*Special Issue on Information-Centric Networking Beyond Baseline
Scenarios: Research Advances and Implementation*
Information-Centric Networking (ICN) has received significant attention
in recent years, mainly driven by the fact that distributing and
manipulating information has become the major function on the Internet
today. Unlike the traditional host-centric networking paradigm where
information is obtained by contacting specified named hosts, ICN aims at
providing native network primitives for efficient information retrieval
by directly naming and operating on information objects. Foreseeing the
need and benefits of developing the Future Internet with ICN concepts as
a key ingredient, many leading research groups, both industrial and
academic, have created a sizable community devoting their efforts to
Information-Centric Future Internet designs and prototype implementations.
To date, the work in this area has centered on ICN for (largely static)
content storage. Within the wider network research area, there are those
who believe ICN cannot work for real time communications, dynamic
content and other network scenarios. Strong supporters, on the contrary,
believe that ICN can be what comes after the current Internet. Whatever
one’s stand on the matter, we observe that architectural papers in this
area outweigh implementation oriented and ICN application papers. This
special issue aims to address both of these issues. To that end, we
seek papers that show ICN’s usefulness in a wide range of applications.
We are particularly interested in the kinds of applications where ICN
solutions are not immediately obvious. Papers that leave the reader
thinking “I had no idea ICNs could be used this way” are particularly
welcome. On the other hand, we welcome contributions that make solid
arguments for places where ICNs cannot replace the current Internet
architecture. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Large scale scenarios, deployment, and experimentation
* Case studies of security attacks and solutions in ICN
* ICN development platforms (testbeds, simulators, open-source code)
and tools
* Evaluation methodology challenges and advances
* ICN protocol design challenges in baseline scenarios
* ICN practice, including protocol implementation, empirical
performance evaluation and enhancements
* ICN and Cloud computing
With regard to both the content and formatting style of the submissions,
prospective contributors should follow the IEEE Network guidelines for
authors that can be found
athttp://www.comsoc.org/netmag/paper-submission-guidelines<http://dl.comsoc.org/livepubs/ni/info/authors.html>.
Authors should submit their manuscripts through ScholarOne for IEEE
Network Magazine. Choose "Special Issue -Information-Centric Networking
Beyond Baseline Scenarios: Research Advances and Implementation" from
the drop down menu on the submission page.
The timetable is as follows:
Manuscript Submission: October 1, 2013
Notification of Acceptance: February 1, 2014
Final Manuscript Due: March 15, 2014
Publication: May 2014
