Call for Papers
Special Issue on "Current and Future Architectures, Protocols, and
Services for the Internet of Things"
will be published in Elsevier Computer Communications
Scope
The Internet of Things (IoT) started as a research topic more than a
decade ago and evolved towards partial deployment in the last few years.
It describes the integration of magnitudes of smart devices into the
current Internet. Those devices challenge Internet architectures and
protocols. They may exhibit very limited resources making the direct
application of common approaches nearly impractical. On the other hand,
they significantly increase heterogeneity, which complicates the
extension of the status quo.
The Internet of Things has continuously been discussed. Related
compilations of contributions usually miss two important aspects. First,
the analysis of IoT approaches that have been deployed or will be
available soon in the current Internet. Analyzing those solutions may
help to understand relevant aspects of a successful deployment and to
identify common pitfalls while IoT approaches have been designed.
Second, deployed protocols need a careful revisit. In contrast to
well-established Internet protocols and architectures, IoT techniques
are fresh and not fully developed on the same level. In addition, new
network paradigms emerge, which need to be considered for a sustainable
future IoT.
In this special issue we are seeking new and unpublished papers in the
field of architectures, protocols, and services for the IoT with a
special focus on current and future deployment. They should contribute
to at least one of the following aspects. (1) Identifying and solving
open technical problems. (2) Performing thorough evaluation and
comparison of existing proposals or standards. (3) Addressing
integrative aspects towards a full-fledged IoT deployment. (4) Enabling
new services.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Wireless, wired, and hybrid networks
- IETF proposals such as RPL and 6LoWPAN
- Privacy and security
- Interconnection between IP and sensor networks
- Integration of future Internet paradigms such as ICN
- Machine to Machine communications in IoT scenarios
- Energy efficiency in smart object scenarios
- IoT management and interoperability
- Participatory and global sensing
- Performance measurement and tuning, scalability
- Simulation and analytical studies
- Testbed, prototype, and practical systems

Instructions for submission
Manuscripts must not have been previously published nor currently under
review by other journals or conferences. If the paper was published in a

Call for Papers: MobiSys 2014
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Twelfth International Conference on Mobile Systems, Applications,
and Services (MobiSys 2014)
http://www.sigmobile.org/mobisys/2014/
June 16th-19th, 2014
Bretton Woods, NH, USA
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MobiSys 2014 will continue the tradition of publishing top-notch research
papers dealing with all aspects of mobile systems. MobiSys seeks original
papers that take a broad systems perspective rather than focus narrowly on
low-level components. Of particular interest are technical contributions
that
enable new and compelling mobile senarios and applications. The conference
values results and insights obtained from working implementations more
highly
than those obtained solely from simulations. If you have any questions
regarding relevance or other submission-related issues, please contact the
program chairs at mobisys-pcchairs14(a)umich.edu.
Important Dates:
- Abstract registration deadline: December 3, 2013, 11:59:59 PM EST
(December 4, 2013, 04:59:59 AM UTC)
- Paper submission deadline: December 10, 2013, 11:59:59 PM EST
(December 11, 2013, 04:59:59 AM UTC)
- Notification of acceptance: March 4, 2014
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Experience with mobile applications, networks and systems
- Innovative mobile and mobile sensing applications
- Tools for building and measuring mobile systems
- Wearable computing and innovative mobile devices
- Software architectures for mobile devices
- Data management for mobile applications
- Infrastructure support for node mobility
- System-level energy management for mobile devices
- Operating systems for mobile devices
- Support for mobile social networking and mobile Web
- Security and privacy in mobile systems
- Systems for location and context sensing and awareness
- Mobile computing support for pervasive computing
- Vehicular wireless systems
- User interfaces and usability for mobile applications and systems
- Personal-area networks and systems
- Cyber foraging and resource discovery for mobile systems
Papers on work that is currently under review, whether in shorter,
longer, or
the same form, must not be submitted to MobiSys. Submission of a longer
version
of a published, not just accepted, workshop paper is encouraged if it
includes
significant new contributions. However, the authors must cite their workshop
paper. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are not
acceptable
and will be returned to the author(s) unread. As is customary with the
scientific peer review process, submissions will be handled as confidential
material during the review process.
We strongly encourage perspective author(s) to use past MobiSys
proceedings as
a guideline to assess the readiness of their work for submission. Due to
high
review load on PC members, low quality or premature work submitted to the
conference is likely to receive a smaller number of reviews and the
reviews may
be brief.
Simultaneous submission of the same work to multiple venues, submission of
previously published work, or plagiarism constitutes dishonesty or fraud.
Papers meeting any of these criteria will be rejected. Authors uncertain
whether their submission meets these guidelines should contact the program
chairs. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms will not be
considered. Accepted submissions will be treated as confidential prior to
publication; rejected submissions will be permanently treated as
confidential.
New in 2014: As part of the submission process, authors of papers that
describe
experiments on human subjects, or that analyze nonpublic data derived from
human subjects (even anonymized data), will be asked to certify that
their work
was vetted by an ethics review (e.g., IRB approval). We expect authors to
follow the rules of their host institutions around data collection and
experiments with human subjects.
Selected outstanding papers may be fast-tracked as a special section of IEEE
Transactions on Mobile Computing.
