SIGCOMM 2012 - Call for Paper
_____________________________________________
ACM SIGCOMM 2012, to be held in Helsinki, Finland between August 13 and August 17, 2012
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2012/cfp.php
The SIGCOMM 2012 conference seeks papers describing significant research contributions to the field of computer and data communication networks. We invite submissions on a wide range of networking research, including, but not limited to:
• Design, implementation, and analysis of network architectures and algorithms
• Economic aspects of the Internet
• Enterprise, datacenter, and storage area networks
• Experimental results from operational networks or network applications
• Fault-tolerance, reliability, and troubleshooting
• Insights into network and traffic characteristics
• Network management and traffic engineering
• Network security, vulnerability, and defenses
• Network, transport, and application-layer protocols
• Networking issues for emerging applications
• Operating system and host support for networking
• Peer-to-peer, overlay, and content distribution networks
• Resource management, quality of service, and signaling
• Routing, switching, and addressing
• Technical aspects of online social networks
• Techniques for network measurement and simulation
• Wireless, mobile, ad-hoc, and sensor networks
- Submissions
SIGCOMM is a highly selective conference where full papers typically report novel results firmly substantiated by experimentation, simulation, or analysis. Submissions can be up to 14 pages in length, in two-column 10pt format. . The submission instructions will be posted here in some time. Note that accepted camera-ready papers will be 12 pages in length, in two-column format with 9pt font.
This year, authors will have the option of submitting a short rebuttal of the reviews of their paper after the first round of reviewing has concluded. The goal of the rebuttal process is to allow authors the opportunity to correct misperceptions, if any, regarding their paper. Note that submitting a rebuttal is entirely optional.
In addition to the main conference, SIGCOMM 2012 will have a series of co-located workshops, a poster and demo session, a travel grant program, and conference best paper and SIGCOMM awards.
- Important Dates
All times noted are per Pacific Standard Time (PST) until 10 Mar 2012 and per Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) from 11 Mar 2012 onwards. Please be sure to translate to your local time accordingly.
• Main conference paper abstract registration Friday, 20 Jan 2012 (9:00 pm PST)
• Main conference full paper submission Friday, 27 Jan 2012 (9:00 pm PST)
• Reviews made available to authors for response Friday, 23 Mar 2012

W-MUST: Workshop on Measurements Up and Down the STack
Helsinki, Finland (August 17, 2012)
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2012/wmust.php
_____________________________________________
Following the success of the first W-MUST workshop at SIGCOMM 2011, we are holding a second workshop this year. W-MUST aims to bring together researchers and practitioners in the networking and HCI communities to share new ideas and experiences addressing the challenges of measuring networked applications on end-user platforms for purposes related to performance, privacy, security, diagnosis, and troubleshooting. We are particularly interested in gathering context related to user activity or reflecting measurement-derived information to users. Work that solely considers network-level traces is out of scope. This workshop encourages work toward understanding how to gather the user view and correlate it with lower-level measurements.
- Topics
We solicit short papers describing positions and work-in-progress that will generate lively discussion. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Incentivizing and providing feedback to users.
• Techniques for gathering individual user perspectives during measurement.
• Sampling users in the face of unpredictability.
• Data collection techniques that respect personalised user privacy.
• Correlating user experience with low level measurements.
• Disambiguating intentional from unintentional network activity.
• Disambiguating user-generated from non-user generated activity.
• Combining user, application, and network measurements on smartphone platforms.
• Exposing hidden activities, on the network and in the cloud, to users.
• Understanding tradeoffs in host data collection between performance impact and data quality.
• Annotating measurement of peoples' use of networked applications with context.
• Optimising network and system resources via context-aware user profiles.
• Quantifying user experience with both network-centric and user-centric metrics.
• Integration of formal and informal user-centric methodologies into measurement.
- Submission Instructions
Submissions must be as PDF files no longer than 6 pages in length. They must include the authors' names and affiliations for single-blind peer reviewing by the program committee. Submissions must follow theSIGCOMM formatting guidelines. Authors of accepted papers are expected to present their papers at the workshop. Submissions must be original work not under review at any other workshop, conference, or journal. Detailed instructions how to submit your paper will be posted here soon.

> By acting as the interface between digital and physical worlds, wireless
> sensor networks (WSNs) represent a fundamental building block of the upcoming
> Internet of Things and a key enabler for Cyber-physical and Pervasive
> Systems. Despite the interest raised by this decade-old research topic, the
> development of WSN software is still carried out in a rather primitive
> fashion, by building software directly atop the operating system and by
> relying on an individuals hard-earned programming skills. WSN developers must
> face not only the functional application requirements but also a number of
> challenging, non-functional requirements and constraints resulting from scarce
> resources. The heterogeneity of network nodes, the unpredictable environmental
> influences, and the large size of the network further add to the
> difficulties. In the WSN community there is a growing awareness of the need
> for methodologies, techniques, and abstractions that simplify the development
> task and increase the confidence in the correctness and performance of the
> resulting software. Software engineering (SE) support is therefore sought, not
> only to ease the development task but also to make it more reliable,
> dependable, and repeatable. Nevertheless, this topic has received so far very
> little attention by the SE community.
>
> SESENA12 aims to attract researchers belonging to both the SE and WSN
> communities, not only to exchange recent research results on the topic, but
> also to stimulate discussion about the core open problems and to define a
> shared research agenda. The workshop welcomes both research contributions and
> position statements. The former will foster in depth technical discussions of
> novel results with an audience composed of both SE and WSN researchers. The
> latter will provide the opportunity for presenting open problems, provocative
> views, or previously unexplored ideas in an informal fashion. SESENA12 will
> also host two special sessions: (i) a "speakers’ corner" composed of impromptu
> presentations where attendees (including those without accepted papers) will
> have the opportunity to present their own views in very short segments (e.g.,
> 2-4 minutes), and (ii) a session dedicated to the VISION project, an FP7 ERC
> Starting Grant focusing on developing an innovative infrastructure for
> real-time sensing services. In the latter session, the intermediate project
> results will be presented with the dual goal of sharing the uniqueness of the
> ERC-style grants and discussing technical elements to identify possible future
> collaborations.
>
> Topics of interest:
>
> The workshop focuses on software engineering issues arising in networked
> (embedded) sensing systems and their possible integration in Internet of
> Things scenarios. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
>
> - environment and context modeling;
> - development methodologies;
> - (macro-)programming languages and compilers;
> - testing, debugging, and validation;
> - non-functional modeling and analysis;
> - security and trust;
> - formal verification and model-checking;
> - model-driven approaches;
> - middleware systems;
> - interfacing WSNs and business services;
> - integration of WSNs in IoT applications.

Special Issue on “Convergence of Heterogeneous Wireless Systems in
Future Internet”
Future Internet envisions the synergy among heterogeneous wireless
communications will co-exist providing the end user the “flexibility and
choice”, to improve his/her quality of life. The integration of
heterogeneous networks in multiaccess and multi-operator environment is
revolutionizing the ICT area, introducing new opportunities, better
communication channels and an enhanced quality of provided applications
and services. In this environment, a user is able to connect to a number
of heterogeneous RATs (Radio Access Technologies), either covering the
same, or complementing geographical areas. These networks can be
macro-cellular, WLANs, femto-cellular or even ad-hoc. In this
environment, seamless mobility is coupled according to user preferences,
enabling mobile users to be “Always Best Connected” (ABC) so that
Quality of Experience is optimised and maintained.
