------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 13th Annual International Workshop on Mobile Computing
Systems and Applications (HotMobile 2012)
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
February, 2012
San Diego, CA, USA
http://www.hotmobile.org/2012/
ACM HotMobile 2012, the Thirteenth International Workshop on Mobile
Computing
Systems and Applications continues the series of highly selective,
interactive
workshops focused on mobile applications, systems, and environments, as
well as
their underlying state-of-the-art technologies. HotMobile's small
workshop format
makes it ideal for presenting and discussing new directions or
controversial
approaches.
We solicit submissions of position papers that focus primarily on
applications and
systems and that propose new directions of research, advocate
non-traditional
approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate controversy and
discussion. We
particularly look for position papers containing highly original ideas
in the following
topic areas, although papers describing other challenges unique to or
exacerbated
by mobility are also welcome:
• Operating system and distributed system support for mobile computing
• Coordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of mobile devices
• Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility
• HCI issues related to mobile computing
• Security and privacy of mobile computing
• Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they
focus on
how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or application.
HotMobile 2012 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will
be judged
based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance, and
likelihood of leading
to insightful discussion at the workshop. Presentation at HotMobile is a
good way
to get early feedback on research ideas that are a year or more from
submission
as a full conference paper to the ACM MobiSys conference or other
high-quality
conferences. Submitting a full-length paper on the same topic to MobiSys
in less
than a year is unlikely to involve a sufficient increment of work and
maturity of ideas.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may
not be
simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers accompanied by
nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will be returned to
the
author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific peer review process,
submissions
will be handled as confidential material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages in PDF format,
including
all references, figures and tables. Papers should use the standard ACM
template,
available at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
For more submission guidelines, please visit the conference website.

20th IEEE International Workshop on Quality of Service (IWQoS 2012)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal, June 4-5, 2012
http://www.ieee-iwqos.org/
Quality of Service (QoS) in communication systems has been a long lasting research focus worldwide. The twenty-year history of IWQoS has established it as a highly reputable forum to present novel ideas on all research subjects related to the topic. While QoS research for future generations of wired and wireless networks continues to attract much interest, recent exploration of data centers, virtualization, cloud computing, cloud services, industrial communication, and “green” computing has motivated a new wave of research interest in QoS and its related metrics such as Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Protection (QoP). The scope of IWQoS 2010 covers both theoretical and experimental research on QoS, QoE, QoP and related issues such as survivability, availability, reliability, security, privacy, pricing, resource provisioning and management, user experience, and system performance guarantees. Topics of interest include QoS issues in (but not limited to) the following
areas:
* Quality of cloud services and cloud computing
* Quality of protection, quality experience, security and privacy
* System dependability, availability; resilience and robustness to faults and security attacks
* Scheduling, resource management, queue management, admission control;
* Traffic engineering approaches and tools for provisioning and evaluation
* Quality evaluation metrics and methodologies; application-aware
* QoS parsing, identification and control
* Measurement, evaluation, adaptation and verification
* Network operations, pricing and billing, network and service management
* Architectures and protocols for IP, overlay and peer-to-peer networks; optical networks, wireless, ad hoc, mesh, and sensor networks
* Energy awareness in communication systems
* Design for the Future Internet
PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
------------------------------------------------
IWQoS invites submission of manuscripts with original research results that have not been previously published or that are not currently under review by another conference or journal.
Submissions will be judged based on originality, significance, interest, clarity, relevance, and correctness. Paper submissions should be no longer than 9 single-spaced, double-column pages with font-size of 10.
Papers must be submitted electronically as PDF files through the EDAS system. All submitted papers will be subject to peer reviews by Technical Program Committee members and other experts in the field. IWQoS aims at rapid dissemination of research results. For fast turnaround in the review process, a short review and publication cycle is designed, with the submission deadline as close to the workshop as the publisher allows.
The proceedings will be published in IEEE Xplore and EI indexed. However, IEEE reserves the right to exclude a paper from distribution after the conference (e.g., removal from IEEE Xplore) if the paper is not presented at the conference.

Call for Papers: IEEE Communications Magazine Feature Topic on
INFORMATION-CENTRIC NETWORKING
Information-Centric Networking (ICN) marks a fundamental shift in
communications and networking. ICN focuses on finding and transmitting
information to end users instead of connecting end hosts that exchange
information. The key concepts are expected to have a huge impact on the
familiar textbook protocol stack, in network architecture in general,
and will create new opportunities for all associated stakeholders
including equipment vendors, network operators, service and content
providers, and above all end-users.
Scope and Objectives
Information-centric networking is to succeed only if it can to provide
clearly superior solutions to well-known problems in the current
generation of all-IP networks and can be introduced to general usage
incrementally. We invite authors to consider the following aspects with
respect to information-centric networks:
* Naming & addressing: What breakthroughs in naming and addressing
will make ICN scalable when faced with a global network of billions of
devices and zettabytes of available content?
* Protocol stack: Can ICN deliver a neat and simple protocol stack?
* Network architecture: What does a ICN network architecture look
like?
* Management: What are the essential characteristics of a complete
management framework that is scalable, flexible, and suitable for ICN?
* Caching: New issues to be addressed such as buffer management and
caching policy.
* Energy efficiency: Will ICN pave the way to a holistic energy
efficient operation?
* Internet of Things (IoT): How does ICN scale in the scenarios
envisioned for the IoT and how does it compare with current IP-based IoT
solutions?
* Security: Can ICN foster the development of a more secure and
trusted global communications infrastructure?
* Which business models could foster a fair relationship between
content producers, content providers and service/network providers?
Submitted articles do not need to cover all these aspects but should
strive to clearly contrast the ICN approach with the current
TCP/IP-based state of affairs. Prospective authors should describe the
key concepts, design, implementation, and evaluation of ICN proposals.
Articles that demonstrate the feasibility of groundbreaking approaches
through testbed/experimental results are particularly welcome. We invite
authors to submit articles reporting original, previously unpublished
research work on information-centric networking. Authors can find
article guidelines at
http://dl.comsoc.org/ci1/info/cfp/cfpcommag0712.htm.

Call for Papers
Special Issue on "Machine and Robotic Networking"
IEEE Network Magazine
===================================================
The advances in communication networking technologies have been very
successful in academia, industry and consumer markets. “Being connected”
becomes an essential part of our daily life. Recently, we have been also
observing that the communication distance between transmitters and
receivers shrinks in many commercial applications. This includes
sensor/RFID networks, WiFi and near field communication (NFC) devices.
Such shortened distance is mostly caused by the high volume of data
demand of users. One other reason is that the modern communications is
not any more for human-to-human (H2H) information exchange only but also
for machine-to-machine (M2M) or machine-to-human (M2H). The
inter-machine distance will be gradually decreasing in many upcoming
applications. This trend adds complexity to the communication protocols
with very high node density and unpredictable interference in particular
in wireless networks.
The machine in M2M or M2H refers to various devices from remote metering
modules to vehicles or small networked robots with communication
functions embedded. M2M applications and use cases currently under
consideration by ETSI, 3GPP, 3GPP2 and IEEE are mainly focused on
stationary nodes (machines) or at least control of node mobility is out
of scope of M2M applications. However, the controllable node mobility
willconstitute a core part of M2M communications. Robotic networks will
belong to this class of M2M, where the position of nodes can be changed
to meet the needs of M2M applications.
Independently, in the automatic control and robotics community, there
has been special interest in connecting multiple robots for effectively
achieving the common mission of a group of autonomous robots. This area
is known as networked robotics. The main background of this approach is
that connecting robots with less intelligence would be more beneficial
than a single isolated robot with full intelligence. In particular,
there have been a group of researchers focusing on the behaviours of
small animals to mimic their grouping patterns such as group navigation
and communications.
This special issue is dedicated to fundamentals and applications in the
machine and robotic networks. The main emphasis is to introduce and to
open new research horizon to the networking researchers. Those who are
currently investigating protocols for inter-machine data exchange or
designing a group of networked machines (including robots) are potential
authors for this special issue. The comprehensive survey and forecasting
of this inter-disciplinary area with deep insight on research challenges
and business opportunities are also seriously considered.
The special issue encourages authors to submit their papers on the
specific areas, which are not strictly limited to the followings, though:
· Networking protocol design for machine and robotic networks
· Distributed algorithm design for machine and robotic networks
· Resource management for machine and robotic networks
· Networked robots with special emphasis on networking and distributed
computing
· Capacity issues in machine and robotic networks
· Mobility issues in machine and robotic networks
· Cognitive machine and robotic networks
· Bio-inspired networking in robotics
· Design and application issues in M2M and networked robots
· Business models and use cases for M2M and networked robots
The interested authors are expected to submit their papers confirming to
the guidelines ofIEEENetwork,
http://dl.comsoc.org/livepubs/ni/info/authors.html according to the
following schedule:
All paper processing will be through an online system, which will be
announced later. In the mean time, you may contact the guest editors.

*************************************************************************
SCOPE
In the today's provision of network services, a rapid development of
many new technologies (like virtualization or cloud computing) and
applications (e.g., social networking) can be seen. They have a
considerable engineering, commercial and societal impact and pose
numerous challenges to designers. One class of issues is the continuous
offering of services in spite of various types of failures that are
everyday events in networks. The increasing complexity, the
participation of many different autonomous entities in the service
provision, the lack of information, coordinated actions as well as
governance makes this challenge increasingly difficult. In addition to a
design of reliable network segments, server clusters etc., new
technological issues like stability and failure management across
heterogeneous autonomous systems arise. They also involve novel fields
at the border of technology, business and society, like risk-awareness
or influence of public policy.
The goal of this issue is to present state of the art research
contributions that focus on the reliable network-based services (RNS)
provisioning. Contributions are invited from prospective authors with
interests in the indicated special issue topics and related areas of
application. All contributions should be of high quality, original,
unpublished, and not submitted for publication elsewhere. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to:
- Network and service resilience:
+ reliability requirements and metrics for individual users, business,
and the society
+ service differentiation based on recovery methods
+ dependability of networked applications and network-based services
+ application and service-specific survivability techniques
- Commercial and societal context:
+ telecommunication networks as an element of critical national
infrastructures
+ network resilience combined with economics and business issues
+ risk and reliability in the Internet and enterprise networks
- Operational aspects:
+ resilience of multi-domain connections in the Internet
+ reliability of emerging technologies (e.g., network virtualization,
thin client architectures)
+ network dependability in cloud computing
+ interaction between fault management and traffic handling
- Theory and modeling
+ reliability analysis
+ methods and theory for survivable networks and systems
+ simulation techniques for network and service resilience
