FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
WoWMoM 2011
Twelfth International Symposium on a
World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks
http://wowmom2011.imtlucca.it/
sponsored by
IEEE Computer Society,
University of Texas at Arlington,
IEEE Computer Society TC on Computer Communications (TCCC)
June 20-24, 2011
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SCOPE
The evolution of wireless networking technologies and their key role in
Future Internet scenarios offer an increasing wealth of opportunities
for distributing multimedia contents over wireless networks, enabling
dissemination of professional contents to mobile users as well as
sharing user-generated contents between them. Users will be able to
retrieve, publish, and manage information, communicate with other users
or devices, access and author services, create and exploit context-
awareness and so on. Papers that present original work, validated by
experimentation, simulation, or analysis, are solicited. Practical
experiences and experimental efforts from both industry and academy,
duly documenting the lessons learned from test-beds, field-trials, or
real deployments, are also welcome.
A detailed list of topics of interest is available on the conference
website at http://wowmom2011.imtlucca.it/. Complete instructions for
submitting papers will be posted in due time.
Papers presented at the Symposium will be considered for a Best Paper
Award. Papers of particular merit will be considered for a fast track
publication in the Elsevier Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal
(PMC).
Important dates:
- Manuscript submission: November 21, 2010.
- Manuscript acceptance notification: March 18, 2011.
WORKSHOPS
Proposals for full day workshops are solicited. Selections will be made
considering the expertise and experience of the workshop organizers and
the relevance of the topic to the central theme of the conference.
Instructions for submitting a workshop proposal can be found on the
conference website.
Important dates:
- Workshop proposals submission: October 20, 2010.
- Workshop acceptance notification: November 5, 2010.
INDUSTRY SESSION
Original and previously unpublished research papers from industry
researchers and professionals for a one-day Industry Session track are
solicited. A key goal of this session is to present systems-oriented
research that exposes the academic and research communities to real-life
issues and problems being faced in industry. Papers in this session will
be included in the main proceedings of WoWMoM 2011. Submission
instructions for submitting will be posted in due time on the conference
website.
DEMOS
Technical demonstration in the areas of wireless, mobile, and multimedia
networking as well as ubiquitous and pervasive systems are solicited.
Instructions for submitting a demo proposal will be posted in due time
on the conference website.
PhD FORUM
A PhD forum will be organized as a poster session to allow PhD students
to interact both with their peers as well as experienced researchers
from industry. Extended abstracts comprising a summary of research

Workshop on Advances in Mobile Networking (AMN 2011)
- Towards a Next Generation Mobile Core Network -
June 9, 2011, Kyoto, Japan

CALL FOR PAPERS
Important Dates
---------------
Manuscript submission deadline: October 15, 2010
Notification of decision: January 15, 2011
Camera-ready deadline: February 15, 2011
Scope and Motivation
--------------------
Mobile Networks are at the brink of becoming truly All-IP Networks,
providing all services through IP technology. This opens the door for
new advancements of mobile systems and all parts of them, along with the
efforts taken to advance Internet technology. In fact, there is an
urgent necessity to advance the IP based mobile network in the upcoming
years. This need stems from the rapid growth of multimedia application
traffic that in return requires an unprecedented network capacity
increase. However, the revenue will not grow at the same extent as the
traffic. Consequently costs per bit are increasing, demanding for higher
network efficiency. The efficiency increase is expected for
infrastructure provisioning as well as for operational cost. In addition
we address innovative user-centric service deployment embracing emerging
resources in the network such as storage and processing power that
demand for new mobility management and resource management solutions
taking service locality, service roaming and user perceived quality into
account.
This workshop focuses on the mobile core network. We take a deployment
of air interfaces such as LTE-Advanced for well underway and focus in
concepts and technologies for the advancement of the core network.
Contributions are sought for all network layers ranging from high-speed
transport to service delivery platform.
The emerging variety of multimedia services also pushed by the
heterogeneity of end systems ranging from traditional mobile phones to
high resolution portable smart devices, demands for new, efficient
resource management schemes such as mobile network embedded Content
Delivery Networks or content specific mobility management schemes. With
available processing and storage space in the network, services do not
any longer have to remain statically at a central server, but may move
closer to the consumer. Such migration is not limited to one operator
domain, but service programs may roam between operator networks.
Diversified resource control also demands for a next generation of
quality of service provisioning taking the user's Quality of Experience
into account. In order to flexibly realize such new network and service
solutions a level of indirection between the service delivery platform
and the transport network is needed. Sophisticated mechanism are sought
to allow for network resource isolations, realizing an abstraction layer
for flexible control and management of coexisting, specific networks on
one infrastructure substrate. It also allows abstracting from transport
networks, supporting the flexible introduction of high speed bit
transport through advanced (e.g. optical) network technologies. This
addresses a new emerging business environment that reaches from Cloud
Computing, Network Virtualization and System Adaptability to the
exploding number of 3rd party applications. New players have to be
taken into account in an open service market to respond to the economic
market pressure that is grounded in fierce competition.
New solutions are sought for expanding the next mobile network and
emerging service ecosystems into a ubiquitous service space that
includes internetworking with physical objects in the user environment,
through means of Radio Frequency Identification, Near Field
Communication and advanced user interaction mechanism.
Topics of Interest
-----------------------
Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
- Network aspects for next generation mobile systems
such as decentralization, scalability, networked cloud computing,
ubiquitous networking environments
- Mobile network edge-based service delivery platforms
- Mobile Content Delivery Networks
- In-network service processing
- Advanced roaming concepts (roaming of service programs and content)
- Quality of Experience driven network optimization

6th GI/ITG KuVS Workshop "Future Internet"
Monday, November 22, 2010 in Hannover, Germany
Institute of Communications Technology, Leibniz Universität Hannover
********************************************************************
Overview
--------
The Future Internet continues to gather momentum in the scientific and
industrial community. The topic "Future Internet" is widely attracting
attention. Triggered by FIND/GENI activities of the NSF both the EU in
the 7th Framework as well as the BMBF in its IT strategy for 2020
addresses this topic. Still, discussions mainly take place in the
research environment and have to get carried into the industry. The
workshop topic covers a wide area ranging from the incremental
improvement of today's Internet to a complete fresh start (clean slate
approach).
Aim of this GI/ITG KuVS workshop on Future Internet is to give
scientists in this area the opportunity to present and discuss novel
ideas and recent work as well as to strengthen cooperation. Emphasis
will be placed on innovation and prospect of new approaches over
incremental works.
The topics of this workshop are focused but not limited to:
* New architectures (evolutionary vs. clean slate)
* New routing schemes, e.g. content-based
* Routing mediation (pub/sub)
* Virtual and overlay networks
* Separation of identity and address (locator/ID split)
* Resource management and QoS/QoE
* Next generation transport, e.g. carrier grade Ethernet
* Energy efficiency (green ICT)
* Network management and control plane

Special Issue on "Mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks"
Introduction:
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) offer unprecedented capabilities for
integrating sensing with computing and communication as well as for
distributed sensing, coordination and control. While WSNs have been a
subject of intensive research for about a decade, most research activities
to date focus on sensor nodes that are deployed in static, pre-determined
locations with sensor readings taken at regular intervals and with packet
forwarding that take place in multiple hops to sinks where storage and
analysis takes place. The next step for sensor networks is to handle
mobility in all possible forms. Thus we need to consider the mobility of
sinks, mobility of sensors and of actuators as well as the mobility of the
applications and their software. This extension towards represents a recent
research subject in sensor networking that opens up a new research
opportunities and challenges, and significantly expands the types of
applications for which WSNs can be used.
This Special Issue therefore aims at identifying the benefits and challenges
raised by mobility in WSNs, addressing the state of the art and advances in
this particularly promising research area. Topics of interest include (but
are not limited to):
- Sink mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Actuator networks
- Mobile sensor-actuator networks
- Code mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobile agent-based data aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility issues in underwater Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility-assisted communication in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Topology coverage and connectivity maintenance in Wireless Sensor
Networks with mobile elements
- Mobility management in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility for maximizing network lifetime in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility models for sinks and actuators in Wireless Sensor Networks
- MAC protocols and QoS provisioning in Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Routing protocols for handling mobility
- Distributed algorithms and reasoning in Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Data aggregation, fusion and dissemination techniques in Wireless Sensor
Networks with mobile elements
- Synchronization and scheduling issues in Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Security, trust and privacy in Wireless Sensor Networks with mobile
elements
- Mobile GeoSensor Networks
- Simulation, evaluation and validation of Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Applications, testbeds and deployment experiences
