investigated as an alternative paradigm for Internet connectivity in
both urban and rural areas. Wireless sensor and actuator networks are
also being deployed for enhancing industrial control processes and
supply-chains, and for various forms of environmental monitoring. The
IEEE MASS 2010 aims at addressing advances in research on multi-hop
ad-hoc and sensor networks, covering topics ranging from technology
issues to applications and test-bed development. Please keep checking
the IEEE MASS 2010 web-space for more information and regular updates.

IEEE Workshop on Mobile Computing and Networking Technologies (WMCNT 2010)
Call for Papers
Scope
The Second IEEE International Workshop on Mobile Computing and
Networking Technologies (WMCNT2010) will take place in conjunction with
the IEEE International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and
Control Systems (ICUMT 2010) to be held in Moscow, Russia, in October
2010. The Workshop will be a full day event. Continuing the great
success of the previous event, WMCNT 2010 Workshop is anticipated to
attract a large number of high-quality submissions and stimulate the
cutting-edge research discussions among academic pioneering
researchers/scientists and industrial engineers/leaders from all around
the world.
Overview
Mobile computing and networking have inarguably emerged among the most
vibrant areas in the field of telecommunications today. Customers’
requirement for immediate response to their prerequisites, targeting on
access to information anywhere in the world at anytime, has increased
the demand for productivity and effectiveness of mobile computing and
networking. Moreover, the convergence of information communications
technology and computing is creating new demands and opportunities for
ubiquitous computing via wireless and mobile equipment without
technological restrictions. Considering also the diversification of
access technologies and their applications that prevail in the present
telecommunication environment, amalgamated with the increased user
mobility makes QoS provision a challenging issue.
Future mobile communication networks offer a variety of high quality
applications. Furthermore, several challenges are imposed by the
demanding wireless networking environment, in terms of network
architecture, channel estimation, propagation and especially radio
resource management. The understanding of these issues becomes even more
demanding due to non-uniform spectrum allocation, various radio resource
management policies, economic concerns, the scarcity of radio resources,
the inherent transmission impairments of wireless links and user mobility.
The aim of the Second IEEE International Workshop on Mobile Computing
and Networking Technologies (WMCNT 2010) is to provide an international
venue for the discussion of architecture, design, implementation,
analysis, measurement, performance and simulation in wireless, mobile
and ubiquitous computing environments. WMCNT 2010 will serve as an open
forum, where novel ideas will be exchanged via bringing together
researchers, developers and engineers in both academia and industry.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue of Journal of Network and Computer Applications on
“Control and Optimization over Wireless Networks”
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/jnca
Scope:
Wireless networks, including Wireless LAN, PAN, cellular network, wireless
sensor network, and ad-hoc and mesh networks etc, are a rapidly emerging
technology providing users with network connectivity without being tethered
off of a wired network. Ideally, wireless users want to have the same
services and capabilities that they have commonly come to expect with wired
networks. However, to meet these objectives, the wireless community faces
certain challenges and need an excellent understanding of all aspects of
wireless networks. Wireless networks are large complex entities. This
complexity brings to the many problems, such as network planning, resource
management, Quality of Service scheduling, congestion and flow control,
connection admission control, and Medium Access Control. These problems are
outside the traditional communications background. They can be properly
addressed with methodologies such as optimization, estimation, adaptation,
fuzzy control, games control, robust stability, distributed control, hybrid
control. For instance, recently, there has been a surge in research
activities that utilize optimization techniques to analysis and design
wireless networks. The purpose of this special issue is to bring research
papers addressing the theme of control and optimization for wireless
networks. Subject areas of interest include, but not limited to, the
following:
Applications of control theory to wireless network problems
Admission control, power control, and congestion control of wireless
networks
Control system design base on wireless networks
Network utility maximization for wireless networks
Allocation of wireless network resources such as bandwidth, rate, or power
Optimization-based models of network traffic and topology
Digital communications signal processing algorithms via optimization methods
Cross-layer design through nonlinear optimization decomposition
Modeling and performance evaluations for wireless networks

CALL FOR PAPERS
MeshTech 2010
Fourth IEEE International Workshop on
Enabling Technologies and Standards for Wireless Mesh Networking
http://www.ing.unipi.it/meshtech10
co-located with IEEE MASS 2010
sponsored by IEEE, IEEE Computer Society,
IEEE TC on Distributed Processing,
IEEE TC on Simulation
November 8, 2010
San Francisco, CA, USA
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SCOPE/CALL FOR PAPERS
Wireless mesh networks have emerged as a key technology for next-
generation wireless networking. Several standardization bodies specify
MAC layer protocols and architectures for interoperable Wireless Mesh
(IEEE 802.11s, and IEEE 802.15.5) and Relay Networks (IEEE 802.16). At
the Network layer, IETF related groups (e.g. MIPSHOP, NETLMM and MANET
Working Groups) develop technologies in the context of wireless access
and mobility support for the Next Generation Internet.
While these standards mainly address broadband access or military usage
scenarios, new environments calling for wide area communication
technologies such as wireless mesh are now arising. One noticeable
example is the smart grid, whereby a distributed network topology is
needed to signal the current grid utilization and energy demands. As
part of the smart grid, wireless mesh inherently becomes a critical part
of the national infrastructure. On the other hand, on the consumer
electronics side, new topologies alternative to the classic, base-
station centred ones are required. Accordingly, so called "single hop"
mesh and demand for other ad hoc networks emerge, like the next
generation Bluetooth, the Wi-Fi Direct developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance,
and the Direct Link Set-up specified by the IEEE 802.11 Task Group "z".
With the emergence of these novel topologies, wireless mesh networks and
their ad hoc relatives have become a hot topic in the research
community. However, these new topologies affect protocol designs and
interoperability with existing networks. Loop-free set-ups, broadcast
traffic handling, inter- and intra-standard connectivity, and handover
of roaming devices are a few examples that these new technologies need
to be aware of. Furthermore, it is still to be fully understood what
technological challenges the above-mentioned standardization efforts
will face, how they evolve, and what application scenarios will drive
their possible success in the market.
Building on the success of the previous editions, MeshTech 2010 aims to
bring together again practitioners and researchers from both academia
and industry in order to discuss the recent advances and future
evolution of next generation peer-to-peer and mobile mesh/multi-hop
relay networking technologies and standards for Wireless Personal,
Local, Metropolitan, Rural and Regional Area Networks.
Within the scope of wireless mesh networks, topics of interest include,
but are not limited to:
- Routing protocols
- Medium access control protocols
- Quality of Service and fairness provisioning
- Mesh networks configuration and management
- Topology discovery, association and control
- Mesh network measurement
- Mobility management
- Coexistence with existing wireless infrastructures
- Security architectures, functions and protocols
- Performance evaluation
- Comparative study of competing solutions
- Cross-layer design and optimization
- Cognitive and frequency-agile radios
- Fault tolerance, anomaly detection and error recovery schemes
- Interworking of heterogeneous standard wireless mesh networks
- Wireless mesh networks for TV white spaces
- Wireless mesh networks for the Smart Grid
- Vehicular wireless mesh networks

ACM Student Research Competition:
ACM MobiCom 2010 will host an ACM Student Research
Competition (SRC). Students submitting to the MobiCom 2010
Poster Session can opt to have their posters considered also
by the SRC committee. Selected competitors will receive up
to $500 USD for their conference travel, depending on need,
and will earn a chance to compete in the SRC Grand Finals.
The winners will be recognized at the Annual ACM Awards
Banquet. Competitors should be prepared to attend the poster
session and, if selected for further competition, give a
short talk about their research projects. Winners of the
MobiCom 2010 SRC will be announced at the conference. The
Student Research Competition is open to graduate and
undergraduate students whose submissions are accepted by the
SRC committee. To be considered, complete a submission to
the Poster Session and indicate that you would like to
participate in the SRC by adding "[SRC]" in the subject
line. Current ACM student membership and student status as
of the submission deadline are required for the lead
student.
Submission Instructions:
The posters should be submitted to
mobicom10.poster(a)gmail.com. The submission should be
formatted as a paper or extended abstract describing the
research to be presented in your poster and should submitted
as a PDF file of at most THREE pages, including all figures
and references (formatted into the US letter size of 8.5 ×
11 inches with fonts no smaller than 10 point size). The
extended abstract must include the names of the authors,
affiliations and email addresses.
The submission should include the following:
·In the submission you would need to indicate you want the
submission to be considered for the Student Research
Competition by adding "[SRC]" in the subject line.
·If you would like your submission to be considered for the
SRC, you would need to indicate any of the student authors
is an undergraduate student. Note that if any of the authors
is a graduate student, then the submission will be
considered under the graduate category.
All poster submissions will be reviewed by a committee. If
your submission is selected for the poster session, you will
receive information regarding the size of the poster board,
etc., so that you can prepare a poster for the poster
session. If your submission is selected for the Student
Research Competition (SRC), then during the poster session,
the committee will also evaluate your poster with the
additional criteria of oral and visual clarity.
Subsequently, the SRC committee will select up to three
finalists from the graduate and the undergraduate
categories. The finalists will be announced soon after the
poster session completes. All finalists will be invited to
deliver a formal presentation of their submitted work at the
conference. Based on these presentations, the SRC committee
will rank the finalists.
A selected subset of the accepted posters will be published
in the extended abstract format in a future MC2R issue.
Please note that if your poster is selected for the Student
Research Competition (SRC), you will need to attend the
conference, and if you are chosen as a finalist, you will
also be required to make a presentation at the conference.
Current ACM student membership and student status as of the
submission deadline are required for the lead student for
SRC submissions.
Important Dates:
Submissions Due: July 2, 2010 (11:59 pm EDT)
