CALL FOR PAPERS
3rd International Workshop on Dependable Network Computing and Mobile
Systems (DNCMS 2010), in conjunction with the 28th IEEE International
Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems (SRDS 2010)
New Delhi, INDIA, Oct. 31, 2010 - Nov. 3, 2010
Scope:
The strong growth in mobile devices, networked embedded systems and
wireless sensors provides a flexible and cheap infrastructure for
collecting and monitoring real-world data nearly everywhere. This is
complemented by the ever increasing information and computing power
offered by computing clusters and information services over stationary
networks The integration of network computing and mobile systems presents
new challenges especially with respect to the dependability of integrated
applications: accepted measures of availability, costs, and quality of
service for high-bandwidth, high-quality stationary systems have to be
re-thought facing possibly new dependability paradigms for cheap, resource
restricted, unreliable mobile systems with low-bandwidth communication
facilities, being embedded and subject to the conditions in the physical
world.
Topics:
This workshop solicits papers addressing dependability issues related to
the design, analysis, and implementation, of infrastructures, systems,
architectures, algorithms and protocols that deal with network computing
and mobile/ubiquitous systems. Topics include, but are not limited to:
• Wireless communication protocols and mobile networks
• Sensor networks
• Architectures and middleware for mobile device integration
• Location-based computing and data analysis
• Intelligent sensors in networked environments

M-MPAC 2010
Second International Workshop on
Middleware for Pervasive Mobile and Embedded Computing
http://www.smartlab.cis.strath.ac.uk/M-MPAC
A Workshop of Middleware 2010
Bangalore, India
November 29 - December 3, 2010
Problem Space
Building on the success of M-MPAC 2009 (that combined the previous
editions of MPAC and MobMid), this event aims to carry on development of
a research roadmap on essential middleware abstractions, platforms and
applications for pervasive mobile and embedded systems.
This year is marked by the resurgence of tablet devices (e.g. iPad and a
myriad of competing products) that aim to combine the performance of PCs
with the portability and freedom of PDAs. This trend drives an increase
in the popularity of pervasive mobile and embedded computing. Recent
years have also witnessed the rise (and sometimes resurgence) of
relatively powerful mobile communication devices such as mobile phones,
mobile Internet devices and netbooks, as well as several embedded
devices, like TV set-top boxes, portable media players (e.g. iPods),
eReaders (e.g. Kindle), etc. These devices have enabled a wide spectrum
of novel pervasive applications, such as healthcare monitoring, enhanced
shopping applications/environments, ad-hoc gaming, sport tracking,
street navigation and observation, context-aware collaborative
computing, etc. Moreover, with the rise of cloud computing
infrastructures developers have also started exploring the possibility
of empowering resource-constrained mobile devices with such
infrastructures offering unlimited storage and computing resources.
Developing practical applications for this kind of devices is still in
most cases a complex and time-consuming process. Many of the existing
applications have been built in an ad-hoc manner and without any
possibility for code reuse. As the number and type of mobile and
embedded devices, and pervasive applications increases, so does the need
to enable interoperability among them. Identifying appropriate
middleware abstractions and organizing successfully used protocols,
algorithms, and software modules into generic middleware platforms can
facilitate application development, foster software reuse, and enable
rapid prototyping of pervasive applications.
It is unclear and in many respects still an unexplored research area to
what extent traditional middleware services can be provided on these
devices. Porting existing middleware architectures to these new
computing platforms turns out to be often infeasible. Instead, a
thorough reconsideration of middleware abstractions and their supporting
infrastructure is needed to allow applications to make effective use of
the available computational power, memory, communication technologies,
integrated sensors, etc. An ideal middleware platform should be capable
of handling the resource constraints of these devices but at the same
time exploit their unique features such as availability of location
information, embedded sensors, mobility, spontaneous interaction,
context-awareness, etc.

Deadline for paper submission is extended to June 30, 2010
The 4th ACM international workshop on context-awareness for
self-managing systems (casemans 2010)
http://www.rn.inf.tu-dresden.de/hwn/2010/casemans/index.html
in conjunction with
The 12th ACM International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing
http://www.ubicomp2010.org/
CFP
Autonomic execution of services is one of the features of context-aware
computing. The service execution may take place inside a simple mobile
device, a stand-alone application, a middleware, a network of all size
and type; or a physical smart environment. The main idea here is to
provide these systems with rich context information to undertake
intelligent decision-making. Participation or intervention in the
decision-making process by users or administrators of the systems is
required only when it is absolutely needed. The intelligent decision
making may refer to: (1) providing timely information to the user; (2)
protecting the system from a systematic attack or intrusion; (3)
updating and configuring relevant software so that it can function
optimally; and (4) reconfiguring a system when some internal and
external settings (policies) change.
Apparently, the above aspects bring together two research areas, namely,
autonomic computing and context-aware computing. Whereas these two areas
are complementary, so far, vital research issues pertaining to
context-aware computing and autonomic computing have been addressed
independently.
The main aim of this workshop is to build a bridge between these two
areas by fostering discussions and collaborations among researchers and
practitioners of these two areas. We are particularly interested in
investigating context and self-adaptive behaviours.
This year, we are planning to make casemans 2010 very attractive by
introducing three paper sessions: (1) full papers session; (2) short
papers session; and (3) demonstrables. The full papers session focuses
on papers with solid research result. The short papers session (4 to 6
pages) will focus on visionary, insightful, critical and even
controversial papers that encourage further research. The demonstrables
are very short papers (not more than 2 pages) and can be accompanied by
demos, attractive posters or videos that show aspects of
context-awareness and autonomic service executions.
Scope
Broadly speaking, the scope of the workshop can be described by the
following terms:
* Context-awareness and cloud computing
* Context-awareness and energy-efficient computing
* Context-awareness and smart spaces
* Context-awareness and service oriented computing
* context-awareness and wireless sensor networks
* Context-awareness and social networking
* Context-awareness and robotics
* Context-awareness and efficient multimedia content distribution
* Adaptive and context-based multimodal interaction
Information for Authors
The workshop proceedings will be published by the ACM ((ISBN:
978-1-4503-0213-5) and will be indexed accordingly. The electronic
version of the proceedings will be made available online at the ACM
Digital Library. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the ACM
Proceedings format. Please visit the ACM template website
<http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates>. All paper

CALL FOR PAPERS
For the reliable performance evaluation of wireless networks, realistic
models
and credible simulation scenarios are crucial. Recently, in the area of
wireless
networks, it has been shown that simplistic models for mobility,
traffic, and
signal propagation yield results that are too optimistic. In order to
provide
more credible models, traces from specific scenarios need to be acquired and
then realistic scenario models need to be developed and validated. We
solicit
papers on mobility, traffic, propagation, and scenario modelling for various
wireless networks including MANETs, DTNs and vehicular networks. Papers
on trace
measurement architectures and trace characterizations of wireless
networks are
also welcome.
The main purpose of this workshop is to promote further research
interests and
activities on scenario modelling of wireless networks. It is also aimed at
increasing the synergy between academic and industrial researchers
working in
this area. We are interested in experimental, systems-related,
theoretical, and
work-in-progress papers in all aspects of wireless network scenarios.
The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Classification of scenarios
* Challenges in trace acquisition
* Tools for mobility, traffic and propagation modelling
* Methods in localization and tracking to acquire accurate movement
traces
* Movement trace measurement architectures
* Characterization of movement traces
* Mobility modelling
* Validation of mobility models
* Traffic measurement, traffic characterization, traffic modelling
* Combined mobility and traffic modelling
* Characterization of signal propagation
* Propagation modelling
* Impact of mobility on radio characterization
* Impact of scenario modelling on performance
Authors are invited to submit full papers and work-in-progress papers for
presentation at the workshop. Papers (no more than 6 camera-ready pages
in IEEE
conference proceedings format) should describe original, previously
unpublished
work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or
journal.
All submissions will be handled via EDAS: http://edas.info/N9078
