CALL FOR PAPERS - TwUC 2010
Fourth International Workshop on Trustworthy Ubiquitous Computing (TwUC
2010)
November 8-10, 2010, Paris, France
http://www.twuc.info
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Fourth International Workshop on the vision of a trustworthy
ubiquitous computing will be held on November 8-10, 2010, in Paris,
France. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the 12th
international conference on Advances in Mobile Multimedia (iiWAS2010)
and the 8thInternational Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing &
Multimedia (MoMM2010). TwUC covers aspects of trust in ubiquitous
computing environments. The aspects of context, privacy, reliability,
usability and user experience related to ubiquitous computing
environments represent the main topics of the workshop.
Marc Weiser presented his vision of disappearing and ubiquitous
computing more than 15 years ago. The big picture of the computer
introduced into our environment was a big innovation and the starting
point for various areas of research. In order to totally adopt the idea
of ubiquitous computing several houses were build, equipped with
technology and used as laboratory in order to find and test appliances
that are useful and could be made available in our everyday life.
Within the last years industry picked up the idea of integrating
ubiquitous computing and already available products like remote
controls for your house were developed and brought to the marked.
In spite of many applications and projects in the area of ubiquitous
and pervasive computing the success is still far away. One of the main
reasons is the lack of acceptance of and confidence in this technology.
Although researchers and industry are working in all of these areas a
forum to elaborate security, reliability and privacy issues, that
resolve in trustworthy interfaces and computing environments for people
interacting within these ubiquitous environments is important. The user
experience factor of trust thus becomes a crucial issue for the success
of a UbiComp application.
The goal of the TwUC 2010 workshop is to provide an international forum
for scientists, engineers and industry to address recent research
results and to present and discuss their ideas, theories, technologies,
systems, tools, applications, work in progress and experiences on all
theoretical and practical issues.
Topics of Interest The conference program will include peer reviewed
full papers around but not limited to the following topics:
- Usability and HCI in Ubiquitous Computing Environments
- Methods and concepts to enhance and ensure usability in
UbiComp environments User experience in ubiquitous environ-

=== Scope ===
The 6th workshop on Secure Network Protocols (NPSec2010) is a one-day
event held in conjunction with the 18th IEEE International Conference on
Network Protocols (ICNP 2010). NPSec2010 focuses on two general areas.
The first focus is on the development and analysis of secure or hardened
protocols for the operation (establishment and maintenance) of network
infrastructure, including such targets as secure multidomain, ad hoc,
sensor or overlay networks, or other related target areas. This can
include new protocols, enhancements to existing protocols, protocol
analysis, and new attacks on existing protocols. The second focus is on
employing such secure network protocols to create or enhance network
applications. Examples include collaborative firewalls, incentive
strategies for multiparty networks, and deployment strategies to enable
secure applications.
NPSec 2010 particularly welcomes new ideas on security in the context of
future Internet design, such as architectural considerations for future
Internet security and new primitives for supporting secure network
protocol and application design.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Security in future Internet architectures (role of security in
future architectures, integrating security in future protocols and
applications)
* Secure and/or resilient network protocols (e.g.,
internetworking/routing,
MANETs, LANs and WLANs, mobile/cellular data networks, P2P and other
overlay networks, federated trust systems, sensor networks)

CALL FOR PAPERS
Journal of Communications (JCM, ISSN 1796-2021)
Special Issue on Road and Vehicular Communications and Applications
The promise of safer roads and enhanced driver experience enabled by
radio communication of location and traffic information among vehicles
(V2V), as well as between vehicles and roadside infrastructure (V2I),
has attracted researchers for a long time. Generally, progress has been
relatively slow until a significant boost in the last few years became
possible thanks to recent developments in standardization and enabling
technology. The progress achieved in the development of the IEEE 802.11p
standard for the PHY and MAC communication layers and the IEEE 1609
suite of standards defining higher-layer functionalities, such as
resource management and security, and the allocation of spectrum in the
Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) band in several countries,
have led to growing experimental testbed evaluation of related
technologies by industry and state road authorities. Despite these
advances, the space of road and vehicular communications is in its
infancy compared to more mature applications such as Wi-Fi or cellular
networks, in both the fundamental research and the practical sense.
There are many open questions remaining, ranging from physical-layer
issues of the wireless channel behavior in the highly dynamic and
interference-prone outdoor road environment, to specialized solutions
for channel access, routing and mobility management, and to novel
communication paradigms that go beyond the traditional point-to-point
exchange of messages (e.g. geocasting). Above all, it is not yet clear
which of the wealth of potential applications, ranging from safety and
collision avoidance to driver assistance to traffic management to
passenger infotainment, will take hold in the market and prove to be
popular with the public.
The Special Issue on Road and Vehicular Communications and Applications
is soliciting original contributions on related advances in theoretical
research, standardization work, experimental evaluation, and practical
implementation and deployment. Submissions reporting on accomplished
results as well as detailed surveys of the state-of-the-art are welcome.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Wireless channel behavior in the road and vehicular environment
* Transceiver design for vehicles and roadside infrastructure
* Medium-access protocols for vehicular communication
* Protocols and algorithms for vehicular networks (VANET)
* Cooperative communication and relaying
* Opportunistic routing and forwarding
* Location, navigation and mobility management
* Geographical routing methods
* Security and privacy in vehicular communications
* V2V and V2I communications
* Intra-vehicle wireless communication
* Public transport communication systems
* DSRC/WAVE standards
* Experimental evaluation and testbed deployments
* Applications of road and vehicular communications in safety and
traffic management

Networks 2010 is the 14th in the series of the Networks symposia. Since
the first conference in Paris (France) thirty years ago, the meetings
are attracting world-class participants from all over the world, ranging
from telecom operators and regulatory and standard bodies, through
systems and software companies and research units from universities and
industry, to systems integrators. The consecutive meetings have been
held in Brighton, UK (1983), Innisbrook, USA (1986), Palma de Mallorca,
Spain (1989), Kobe, Japan (1992), Sydney, Australia (1996), Sorrento,
Italy (1998), Toronto, Canada (2000), Munich, Germany (2002), Vienna,
Austria (2004), New Delhi, India (2006) and Budapest, Hungary (1994 and
2008).
The conference will focus on network design and planning methods, the
issues of routing, traffic flows and optimization that are necessary to
deliver the promise of the Network of the Future. The motto of Networks
2010 is „Networks for the e-Society“. There are many challenges in
building networks with the appropriate performance for the e-Society,
such that each step is cost-justified and helps drive profitable growth.
The difficult issues of scalability, end-to-end network performance,
network management, network and service control, reliability, security
and interoperability must be carefully resolved, and solutions planned
and implemented.
The topics cover, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems (IJCS)
Special Issue on
"Interdisciplinary and Cross-layer Design of Mobile Social Networks and
Wireless Networks"
Social Networks have attracted billions of active users under major
online social network systems such as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter,
DouBan, etc. Nowadays these social networks are increasingly used on
mobile devices thus rendering a new research field of mobile social
networks. The marriage of current wired-network-based social networks
with mobile wireless networks triggers exciting new research areas. For
instance, knowing the network features such as throughput and delay can
help mobile social networks select a contact (e.g., a job advice centre)
to which the network route has the best performance. This leads to the
so-called wireless-aware social networks and the problem domain is
within social networks. On the other hand, there is also social-aware or
social inspired wireless network research where the knowledge of social
network users is exploited for the benefit of wireless network design.
Therefore, a cross-layer design that incorporates both the upper-layer
mobile
social networks and the lower-layer wireless networks is needed. And
this comprises the thematic essence of this Special Issue.
This cross-layer design method calls for a novel interdisciplinary
research thinking that embraces not only these disciplines that are
closely related to the field such as computer science, social science
and network/communication engineering but also other subjects such as
biology, physics, etc. The goal of this SI is to solicit the
state-of-the-art approaches and technical solutions that embark on the
above interdisciplinary and cross-layer design methodologies to design
and implement a better-performed mobile social network or wireless
network. The topics of interest include, but limited to, the following:
Group 1: Network-aware Mobile Social Networks
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile social networks
caused by mobile wireless networks
*) Network-aware modelling, design and development of mobile social networks
*) Network-aware social search, data collection, processing, ranking and
recommendation
*) Network-aware middleware, framework for mobile social networks
*) Network-aware real-world applications, services, systems of mobile
social networks
*) Experimental results or trials of network-aware mobile social networks
*) New aspects of security, privacy and trust in mobile wireless networks
Group 2: Wireless Networks that are aware of social network knowledge
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile wireless
networks caused by social networks
*) Social-aware modelling of mobile wireless networks, planning,
protocol design and deployment
*) Community based mobility model, handoff management
*) Applying social network theories into wireless network problem solving
*) Optimal and scalable distribution of dynamic content (such as news or
traffic information) over mobile social networks
*) New social-aware/inspired wireless content distribution networks
*) Network security protocols/algorithms design using social data
