In particular, it will cover physical, data link, network and transport layers, as well as applications, security, simulation and power management issues in sensor, local area, personal, and mobile ad hoc networks. It is the goal of this workshop to review ad hoc protocols and models and to reflect the latest in the state of the art in ad hoc networks. It seeks to provide up to date information on research and development activities in the rapidly growing area of ad hoc networks. The workshop will also address sensor networks, vehicular access networks, and other emerging ad hoc wireless networks, including (but not limited to) the issues related to: - Applications and history of ad hoc networks - Physical layer of ad hoc networks - Pervasive and wearable computing - Opportunistic spectrum access in ad hoc networks - IEEE 801.11x, 802.15.x and other types of medium access control - Methods and tools for ad hoc networks simulation - Analytical, mobility and validation models for ad hoc networks - Hybrid networks and wireless internet - Security in ad hoc and sensor networks - Data management issues, query processing, and data delivery in sensor networks - Routing, broadcasting and multicasting in ad hoc networks - Energy-efficient protocols for ad hoc networks - Quality of service in medium access control and routing - Topology construction and maintenance - Information processing in sensor networks and systems Selected best papers will be invited for publication in a special issue of Ad Hoc & Sensor Wireless Networks journal (Old City Publishing, UK). ========================================================================= Submission details Papers should be submitted via email to workshop co-chairs (wwasn2010(a)netmode.ntua.gr). [Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this CFP.] ------------------------------------------------------------------- 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications (IEEE WiVeC'2010) 16th-17th May 2010, Grand Hotel, Taipei, Taiwan http://www.ieeevtc.org/wivec2010/ Sponsored by the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Wireless vehicular communications has been identified as a key technology for increasing road safety and transport efficiency, and providing Internet access on the move to ensure wireless ubiquitous connectivity. The potential of this technology has been acknowledged with the establishment of ambitious research programs worldwide in Europe, US and Asia. The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) currently covers through its areas of interest (Mobile Radio, Transportation Systems and Automotive Electronics) all technical aspects needed to make wireless vehicular communications a reality. As a result, the IEEE VTS society decided to establish a technical symposium on wireless vehicular communications co-located with the reputed IEEE VTC conferences. The IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications (WiVeC) will cover all vehicular wireless communications aspects of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Person (V2P) communications, including implications on transport efficiency and safety, implications on automotive electronics, liability issues, standardizations efforts and spectrum assignment. After the successful first and second WiVeC editions in 2007 and 2008, the third IEEE WiVeC symposium will be co-located with the 71th IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference 2010 Spring conference, and will take place at the Grand Hotel in Taipei on the 16th and 17th of May 2010. Combined registrations packages will be offered for WiVeC and VTC events. All accepted papers (full length and demo papers) will be included in the VTC 2010-Spring conference proceedings and will be published on the IEEE Xplore database. Note: VTC Fall editions are traditionally located in North America, while VTC Spring is located in other areas of the world. Since WiVeC was originally launched co-located with VTC Fall editions, the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society decided that WiVeC would take place every year and a half in order to ensure that the conference is alternatively co-located with VTC Fall and Spring editions. This resulted in that there was no WiVeC edition in 2009. Topics of interest ------------------ The WiVec Symposium seeks original papers - not published or currently under review for another workshop, conference, or journal - in the area of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and vehicle-to-person (V2P) wireless communications. Research has been carried out intensely in different aspects of wireless networking, such as the system architecture, protocol designs, and cross-layered optimization designs. Different types of wireless operating platforms may be derived through the integration of heterogeneous networks. Besides, wireless multi-hop mesh networks can be established through interconnecting multiple wireless base-stations. Furthermore, convergence of heterogeneous wireless networks and the next generation Internet may bring wireless Internet to handle a variety of applications including, for example, deliveries of bandwidth demanding high-quality videos and images. There is added momentum from the European stage for green radio to globally reduce the electromagnetic radiation levels to have a better coexistence of wireless system (less interference) as well as a reduced human exposure to radiation leading to the so called Green Wireless technologies. Hence, there is a clear need for disruptive strategies to address all aspects of power efficiency from the user devices through to the core infrastructure of the network and how these devices and equipment interact with each other. While in the past entertainment technology traditionally offered predominantly passive experiences, continual advances in network and computer technologies are providing tools for implementing greater interactivity and for enabling consumers to enjoy more exciting experiences, such as, for example, interactive digital TV, interactive theatre and orchestrated music and sound design. This phenomenon is pulling together an extremely diverse group of experts specializing in different technical areas, such as networking, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, games, animation, multimedia design, human-computer interaction, educational media and software engineering. Even though high-tech entertainment promotes interdisciplinary fusion, yet only the ubiquity of wireless/wired communication is considered suitable for accepting the challenge of building a large interactive environment for the delivery of the maximum entertainment value to millions of consumers worldwide. In this respect, there is a great hope that the wired and wireless may take over this complex scenario for fulfilling the consumer expectations. The Sixth IEEE International Workshop on Networking Issues in Multimedia Entertainment provides an open forum for researchers, engineers and academia to exchange the latest technical information and research findings on next-generation networked multimedia concepts, technologies, systems, and applications for entertainment covering existing deployments, current developments and future evolution. The connected devices may be sensors, actors, consumer electronics, appliances, mobile and PC devices that cooperate transparently for facilitating living and improving usability in the home. Sensors can capture the and/or detect physical phenomena, like temperature, humidity, illumination, etc., of living environments and notify other devices of the phenomena; actors and other devices can then act according to the phenomena to provide context aware services. Home care of the old, the young, the sick and the disabled can benefit from smart digital home technologies, by which carers are able to acquire the states of the home and the residents anytime, anywhere and to take proper actions immediately. By the technologies, proper actions can also be triggered automatically in the presence of specific events, such as resident falling, and stove catching fire, etc. Smart digital home technologies enable working from home, remote education, network shopping, online gaming, etc. High speed broadband network access and all-IP technologies enabled by frameworks of IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem), SDP (Service Delivery Platforms), DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), and so on, offer new communication capabilities. We can foresee that innovative smart digital home applications benefiting from high network capabilities will be blooming in the near future. Since a variety of devices presents in a smart digital home, convergent (across all the screens of TVs, PCs, appliances and mobile devices) and personalized user experience is evidently the key for the success of new residential applications. *Subject Coverage* The goal of this special issue is to bring together the researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of the smart digital home.
