Call for Papers
DANMS 2008
3rd International Workshop on Distributed Autonomous Network Management Systems
Co-located with Globecom 2008, New Orleans, USA
30 November, 2008
http://www.danms.org
The DANMS workshop series focuses on distributed and autonomous
principles for network management and applications of those principles
in network design. This year's workshop emphasizes Service Centric
Network Management considering the impact on the system, across the
whole information flow from service creation to deployment in the
network.
This workshop is looking for full papers describing original,
previously unpublished research work, experimental efforts, practical
experiences with existing systems and industrial developments in the
field of autonomous network management. Papers with a deep focus on a
specific discipline or stimulated by the synergistic interaction of
diverse disciplines are encouraged.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of topics of interest:
Architecture and Systems Topics relating to Autonomic Networks
* Cross-layer system architecture design
* Middleware and O&M techniques for network management
* Resource modeling approaches for network management
* Peer-to-peer techniques for autonomic network management
* Scalability issues in network management
* Security aspects in network management
Autonomic Techniques
* Adaptive & context-based self-management in networks
* Policy (refinement techniques, policy models)
* Knowledge based techniques to support autonomics
* Data management for real-time dynamic service provisioning
* Real-time MIB engineering to provide cross-layer provisioning
Aspects of Service Management
* Use of semantics to enable service deployment and composition
* Automated service composition and orchestration
* Automated service provisioning across multiple service providers
Case Studies in Existing & Emerging Networks
* Lessons, shortcomings and real world experiences with existing
network management systems, protocols and architectures.
* Experiences with service deployment in challenged networks (ad-hoc,
pervasive, sensor etc.) and the implications on the network management
plane

CfP: ROADS'08 - Madrid, Spain, 9 December 2008
http://www.sigcomm.org/co-next2008/roads.html
The 3rd International Workshop on Real Overlays And Distributed
Systems (ROADS) seeks papers on the challenges in building large-scale
distributed systems and networking overlays. ROADS is a place to share
new experiences, and work in progress, with an emphasis on systems
that actually run in the wide-area Internet.
The Real in ROADS refers to systems that are deployed on a real
platform for a period of time. They might be existing widely deployed
systems, new research prototypes, or more permanent services, but
submissions should address technical challenges they present for
designers and researchers. We also welcome papers that explore the
extent to which results retain their validity when moving from
simulation (e.g., ModelNet) to emulation (e.g., Emulab), and/or to
more realistic deployment settings (e.g., PlanetLab).
The workshop program will include invited speakers and presentations
of peer-reviewed papers. Papers will be selected based on originality,
likelihood of stimulating a lively discussion, and technical merit. We
encourage submissions of early work containing novel and interesting
ideas. We envision ROADS as a forum where participants can receive
early feedback on the design and implementation of systems that may
later form the core of submissions to conferences such as CoNEXT,
SIGCOMM, NSDI, SOSP, OSDI, MobiCom, or MobiSys.
Topics of interest include, but are by no means limited to:
* Self-organizing, autonomous, and federated networked systems
* Overlays and peer-to-peer systems
* Online social networks: privacy, reputation, content sharing, search
* Video-On-Demand and other advanced content distribution systems
* Cloud computing and data center networks
* Managing, debugging, and diagnosing problems in distributed systems
* Virtualization and resource management for networked systems
* Architectural support for improving security or availability
* Design and evaluation of Internet-scale testbeds
* Experiences with deployed systems (e.g., CDNs, metro-area Wi-Fi
networks, massive multiplayer game systems)
* Addressing novel challenges for the developing world
* Energy efficient computing in networked environments
Important Dates
Submission deadline: September 12th, 2008 (Friday, 23:59 CEST)
Notifications of acceptance: October 20th, 2008
Final versions due: November 14th, 2008
Submissions
Submissions should be at most 6 pages in length (including figures,
tables, and references), in standard ACM two-column format, using at
least 10 point type. Longer submissions will not be reviewed.
Submissions should expose a new problem, advocate a specific solution,
or report on actual experience. Instructions regarding the submission
process can be found on the ROADS'08 web site. Papers will appear in
the ACM Digital Library and will be included in the ACM CoNEXT 2008
electronic proceedings.

(IEEE/IFIP sponsorship pending)
February 2-4, 2009. Snowbird, Utah, USA
http://wons09.cs.ucla.edu
------------------------------------------------------------
Scope of the conference
-----------------------
As more and more users become increasingly dependent on
wireless and mobile communications, it is necessary to
secure a reliable and dependable technology support for
"on-demand" services through any of the wireless
architectures that have been in development recently, such
as mesh networks, WiMAX, WiFi, ad hoc networks, sensor
networks, etc.
However, there are serious challenges to overcome, such as
the integration of infrastructure-based and ad hoc networks,
robust algorithms for self-organizing, reconfigurable
wireless networks, on-demand service models and their

implementations, service level aspects and Internet
integration of wireless networks.
Topics related to wireless ad hoc networks, mesh networks,
vehicular networks and sensor networks comprise, but are not
limited to:
* Architecture and Design
* Analysis through simulation and experimental evaluation
* Modeling
* Internet integration
* Social and economic aspects
* Pervasive / ubiquitous computing
* Localization and mobility management
* Security
* Energy-efficient protocols and power management
* Applications and Service Support

5th Workshop on Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (WMAN 2009)
in conjunction with the 16th bi-annual
Conference on Communication in Distributed Systems (KiVS)
(German: ITG/GI - Fachtagung "Kommunikation in Verteilten Systemen (KiVS)")
March 5 + 6, 2009, Kassel, Germany
http://www.kivs09.de/
Workshop URL: http://wman2009.cs.uni-bonn.de/
General information:
Welcome to the Workshop on Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks! Based on the success
of the preceding WMAN workshops of 2007 back to 2002, the workshop will
also be organised for 2009. For the upcoming workshop, we are very
happy to introduce WMAN 2009 for the second time being hosted in the
context of the bi-annual ITG/GI conference on communication in
distributed systems (German: ITG/GI - Fachtagung "Kommunikation in
Verteilten Systemen") - see http://www.kivs09.de/.
Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) show a large interest in application
and protocol research. While the basic organization of the routing
tasks has been addressed for quite some time, the emerging areas
include auto-configuration, security and data privacy, or an efficient
use of various resources, such as bandwidth, energy, or memory.
Especially driven by the hand-held or mobile devices restrictions,
the lack of centralized managers, and a high dynamicity of users,
devices, and applications, known solutions to wire-line protocols,
mechanisms, and systems cannot be applied directly to MANETs.
Therefore, this workshop WMAN’09 combines in a coherent manner
questions from the lower radio transmission layer all the way up
to the application layer relevant in MANETs. Furthermore, dedicated
application scenarios, such as vehicle-to-vehicle communications or
submarine communications are of high interest.
Workshop paper topics include, but are not limited to:
• Basic Technologies (IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth)
• Architectures and protocols
• Routing mechanisms
• Scalability and simulations of performance
• Energy efficiency
• QoS for ad-hoc networks
• Auto-configuration and addressing
• Security and data privacy in ad-hoc networks
• Software platforms (middleware) for mobile applications
• Applications for ad-hoc network
• Location-based services and their deployment
• Context management for ad-hoc services
• Pricing models for commercial ad-hoc services
• Accounting schemes for ad-hoc services
• Management mechanisms of ad-hoc networks
• Self-configuration and self-organization in ad-hoc networks
Addressees of the workshop:
Goal of the WMAN workshop is to enable an effective interchange of
results and ideas among researchers, users, and product developers on an
international level - under the umbrella of research topics on wireless
mobile ad-hoc networks.
We encourage you to submit original papers describing research results
or practical solutions, as well as ongoing work or challenging new
research issues in the area of ad-hoc networks.
Important dates:
- October 31, 2008: Deadline for submissions. All papers have to be
registered by October 24, 2008.
- November 30, 2008: Notification of acceptance.
- December 20, 2008: Camera ready version.
- March 2-6, 2009: Conference KiVS in Kassel
- March 5+6, 2009: Workshop days, WMAN 2009 and others
Submission of papers:
Papers are solicited as full papers (in English language), each of which
will be subject to a full peer review proc-ess. Submissions have to follow
the author guidelines and must include: title, authors, affiliations, and
100-word abstract. The corresponding author should be identified clearly,
including name, position, mailing address, tele-phone and fax numbers,
and e-mail address. An electronic, PDF-based submission of papers is
mandatory.
Information on the paper length and formatting instructions for the papers
will be published on the workshop web page as soon as available. All
workshop
papers of the KiVS conference will be published in a common workshop
publication (details are currently under negotiation - as of July 18).
Details on electronic paper submission will also be published on the
workshop
web page.

PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS
5th IEEE International Workshop on Networking Issues in Multimedia
Entertainment (NIME'09)
In conjunction with the 6th Annual IEEE Consumer Communications &
Networking Conference (CCNC 2009)
Sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society
January 13, 2009, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Website: To be announced
Scope & Topics
============================
The growing availability of digital contents and the simultaneous
cost reductions in storage, processing, and networking is driving the
growth of the entertainment technology. While in the past
entertainment technology traditionally offered predominantly passive
experiences, continual advances in network and computer technologies
are providing tools for implementing greater interactivity and for
enabling consumers to enjoy more exciting experiences, such as, for
example, interactive digital TV, interactive theatre and orchestrated
music and sound design. This phenomenon is pulling together an
extremely diverse group of experts specializing in different technical
areas, such as networking, computer graphics, artificial intelligence,
games, animation, multimedia design, human-computer interaction,
educational media and software engineering. Even though high-tech
entertainment promotes interdisciplinary fusion, yet only the ubiquity
of wireless/wired communication is considered suitable for accepting
the challenge of building a large interactive environment for the
delivery of the maximum entertainment value to millions of consumers
worldwide. In this respect, there is a great hope that the wired and
wireless may take over this complex scenario for fulfilling the
consumer expectations. The Fifth IEEE International Workshop on
Networking Issues in Multimedia Entertainment provides an open forum
for researchers, engineers and academia to exchange the latest
technical information and research findings on next-generation
networked multimedia concepts, technologies, systems, and applications
for entertainment covering existing deployments, current developments
and future evolution. Authors are solicited to submit complete

The 2nd International Workshop on Peer-to-Peer Networked Virtual
Environments
in conjunction with
The 14th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems
(ICPADS 2008)
December 8 -10, 2008
Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA
http://acnlab.csie.ncu.edu.tw/P2PNVE2008/
Theme, Scope, and Motivation*
*PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The rapid growth and popularity of networked virtual environments (NVEs)
such as Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) in recent years have
spawned a series of research interests in constructing such large-scale
virtual environments. For increasing scalability and decreasing the cost
of management and deployment, more and more studies propose using
peer-to-peer (P2P) architectures to construct large-scale NVEs for
games, multimedia virtual worlds and other applications. The goal of
such research may be to support an Earth-scale virtual environment or to
make hosting virtual worlds more affordable than existing client-server
approaches. However, existing solutions for consistency control,
persistent data storage, multimedia data dissemination, and
cheat-prevention may not be straightforwardly adapted to such new
environments, novel ideas and designs thus are needed to realize the
potential of P2P-based NVEs.
The 1st International Workshop on Peer-to-Peer Networked Virtual
Environments (P2P-NVE 2007) was held in Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2007. To
adhere to the theme of P2P-NVE 2007, the theme of P2P-NVE 2008 is to
solicit original and previously unpublished new ideas on general P2P
schemes and on the design and realization of P2P-based NVEs. The
workshops aim to facilitate discussions and idea exchanges by both
academics and practitioners. Student participations are also strongly
encouraged.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
*P2P systems and infrastructures
*Applications of P2P systems
*Performance evaluation of P2P systems
*Trust and security issues in P2P systems
*Network support for P2P systems
*Fault tolerance in P2P systems
*Efficient P2P resource lookup and sharing
*Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs) and related issues
*Constructions of P2P overlays for NVEs
*Multicast for P2P NVEs
*P2P NVE content distribution
*3D streaming for P2P NVEs
*Voice communication on P2P NVEs
*Persistent storage for P2P NVEs
*Security and cheat-prevention mechanisms for P2P games
*Data structures and queries for P2P NVEs
*Consistency control for P2P NVEs
*Design considerations for P2P NVEs
*Prototypes of P2P NVEs
*P2P control for mobile NVEs
*P2P NVE applications on mobile devices
