an der Georg-Simon-Ohm Hochschule Nürnberg
der GI-Fachgruppe "Kommunikation und Verteilte Systeme" (KuVS)
erinnern.
Treffen in Nürnberg statt.
Diskussionen geplant. Willkommen sind daher auch Beiträge, die einen
Work-in-Progress beschreiben. Potenzielle Themen sind:
- Ortsbezogene Dienste des Mobilfunks
- Ortsbezogene Dienstvermittlung und -suche
- Modellierung des Benutzerkontextes
- Middleware-Plattformen für ortsbezogene Anwendungen und Dienste
- Datenbanken für ortsbezogene Dienste, Geodatenbanken
- Positionsbestimmung, auch auf der Basis mobiler Netzwerke
- Sensorik bzw. Sensornetze zur Erfassung von Kontextdaten
- Umsetzungen konkreter Anwendungen aus diesem Bereich,
z.B. Tour Guides, Friend Finder
- Navigation
- Sicherheitsaspekte entsprechender Dienste
- Angrenzende Themen z.B. aus dem Bereich der Geoinformatik
- Neuartige Anwendungsbereiche (Gaming, Entertainment, Sicherheit,
Frühwarnsysteme, Katastrophenmanagement)

(IEEE/IFIP sponsorship pending)
February 2-4, 2009. Snowbird, Utah, USA
http://wons09.cs.ucla.edu
------------------------------------------------------------
Scope of the conference
-----------------------
As more and more users become increasingly dependent on
wireless and mobile communications, it is necessary to
secure a reliable and dependable technology support for
"on-demand" services through any of the wireless
architectures that have been in development recently, such
as mesh networks, WiMAX, WiFi, ad hoc networks, sensor
networks, etc.
However, there are serious challenges to overcome, such as
the integration of infrastructure-based and ad hoc networks,
robust algorithms for self-organizing, reconfigurable

CFP: 1st Workshop on Wireless Broadband Access for Communities and Rural Developing Regions
by Peter Dely 10 Jul '08
by Peter Dely 10 Jul '08
10 Jul '08
**************************************************************************
CALL FOR PAPERS
1st Workshop on Wireless Broadband Access for Communities
and Rural Developing Regions
Co-located at 1st International Conference on
"M4D" - Mobile Communication Technology for Development",
http://m4d.humanit.org/
December 11-12, 2008,
Karlstad University,
Sweden
Sponsored by E-CLIC (EU-regional funds)
**************************************************************************
Broadband internet access is at present available only to a
small portion of the world's population, and there is a significant
penetration discrepancy not only between different countries but
also between different regions and areas within a given country.
In addition, there is a growing interest on the local community
and municipal levels to get broadband wireless access, but the
number of options regarding network and service providers, as well
as price and usage plans, is severely limited. However, affordable
broadband for all is a key requirement to bridge the digital divide
and to bring sustainable development to rural and developing regions
as well as to support communities and municipalities. Today,
existing technologies and plans for broadband access fail to address
key challenges in terms of cost, deployment, or power consumption in
order to bring broadband internet access to sparsely populated rural
areas or to the masses of developing countries.
While the focus of the general M4D conference is on multi-disciplinary
research addressing the social, political, cultural and educational
barriers to bringing ICT into developing regions, this workshop focuses
on the technical and economical aspects of enabling (broadband) wireless
internet access for rural and developing areas, as well as supporting
communities and municipalities. The goal is to bring together researchers
and practitioners and to serve as a forum for presenting and discussing
state of the art research, exchanging ideas and experiences, and
facilitating interaction and collaboration. Therefore, we are encouraging
contributions including but not limited to topics listed below:
* Cost-effective Rural, Urban and Community Wireless and Mesh Networks
* Long distance and low power wireless network deployments
* Power-Efficient Wireless Networks and Mobile Systems
* Opportunistic Communication Paradigms
* Social Networks meet Wireless
* Planning and Deployment of Community and Municipality Wireless Networks
* Business Models and Economics of Community and Rural Wireless Networks
* Applications and Services for Communities, Cross-layer design for
localized communication
* Case Studies and Testbeds
Submission Instructions
Prospective authors are encouraged to submit a PDF version of an
extended abstract (maximum of 1000 words, in English) of their
contribution to wireless4d(a)kau.se by no later than September 30th, 2008.
Authors of accepted papers are expected to present their paper at the
workshop and register at regular registration rates. The submitted final
written material can be in the form of either a regular conference paper
(10 pages maximum, single-spaced) or in the form of a slide presentation/
poster. Accepted contributions will be part of the M4D conference
proceedings either as full paper or as the extended abstract and published
on this website after the conference. Participants will present their
contributions as either talks (max. 20 minutes) or poster presentations

[Tccc] CFP: ACM TAAS Special Issue on Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Wireless Networking Systems
by Zhang, Liqiang 09 Jul '08
by Zhang, Liqiang 09 Jul '08
09 Jul '08
Apologies if you receive multiple copies
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems
Special Issue on
Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Wireless Networking Systems
http://taas.acm.org/TAAS-ACM-SelfOrg-WSN.pdf
Paper submission due: July 31st, 2008
****************************************************************************************
Recent advances in wireless communications and networking, distributed sensing and
control, and real-time and embedded systems have led to some new computing paradigms,
such as ubiquitous and pervasive computing, wireless sensor networks, and cyber-physical
systems. Many novel and attractive applications are made possible, such as advanced
automotive systems, environmental control, critical infrastructure control, high
confidence medical devices and systems, etc. In these applications, a large scale wireless
networking system that consists of massive numbers of connected processing elements,
sensors, and actuators often plays a key role. The high complexity of such large scale
heterogeneous systems raises new challenges to the system design: we expect the system
to be context-aware and self-adaptive to internal and external environments to achieve
reliable and robust performance; to be self-organizing and scalable so that managing and
maintaining costs could be minimized; to have programmable architecture and protocols for
achieving optimal performance in different situations/scenarios, etc. These challenges
need to be addressed under joint efforts from different areas, such as networking, system,
control, AI, biology, and others.
The special issue seeks original and unpublished papers that address theoretical and
experimental work related to self-adaptive and self-organizing wireless networking systems
(SASOWNS). Papers are solicited from, but are not limited to, the following topics:
* Self-adaptive architectures, algorithms, and protocols
* Control theoretical approaches for self-optimization
* Self-organizing wireless mesh, ad hoc, and sensor networking
* Self-configurable and programmable MAC and routing protocols
* Biological, economic, and social models for large scale SASOWNS
* Applications and testbeds of SASOWNS
* Autonomic and autonomous wireless networking systems
IMPORTANT DATES
---------------
Paper submission due: July 31st, 2008
Acceptance notification: Dec. 31st, 2008
Camera-ready due: Feb. 28th, 2009
Tentative publication date: June/Sep. 2009
SUBMISSION FORMAT AND REVIEW GUIDELINES
---------------------------------------
Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting important developments (or advances) in
the topics related to the special issue. The submitted papers must be written in English and
describe original research not published nor currently under review by other journals or
conferences. Parallel submissions will not be accepted. If an earlier version of the manuscript
was published/accepted in conferences, authors should state so in the cover letter.
The manuscript must be a substantial extension to the previously published/accepted work and
a summary of changes and a copy of the previous conference paper must be submitted together
with the submission to the special issue.
Guest editors will pre-screen submitted manuscripts for their suitability in the issue.
Submissions passing the pre-screen process will go through a rigorous peer-review process
according to the standards of TAAS. Submitting a paper implies the willingness of reviewing
one paper submitted to the special issue.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
