Call for Papers: IEEE IoT-Sencity 2020 (co-located with IEEE SECON 2020)
1st Workshop on IoT-Crowdsensing for Smart Cities
22th - 26th June @ Como, Italy
Website: https://sites.google.com/view/iotsencity
The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is growing at a significant pace and
several services are now built on the data obtained from connected smart
objects. The emerging IoT paradigm with the Big Data paradigm, provides the
foundations to extract common knowledge from data made available by humans,
institutions, or smart objects for supporting decision making. The
paradigms of Crowdsourcing and Mobile Crowdsensing (MCS) have long been
used to seek contributions from a crowd of participants who commit to
perform certain agreed tasks. With the omnipresence of IoT, underpinned by
mobile smart devices, IoT-Crowdsensing (IoT-CS) is gaining increased
interest where smart mobile devices and IoT devices undertake the task of
collecting data about phenomena of interest.
Although fascinating and potentially disruptive, this paradigm inherently
carry a set of technical challenges at various levels, which should be
studied by different research communities: battery efficiency, efficient
participant recruiting, data aggregation and processing, data quality,
incentivization techniques, mobility, application semantics and privacy to
name some of the hot facets of IoT-CS.
In line with such objectives, this workshop aims to provide a platform for
researchers and practitioners to discuss and share the current and emerging
state-of-the-art, challenges and solutions in IoT-CS specifically targeting
Smart Cities. We solicit original contributions in topics of interest
including, but not limited to, the following:
- Energy efficiency in MCS services and applications
- Protocols enhancement for crowdsensed services
- Social Internet of things
- Big data semantics
- Data science for MCS services
- Environmental Monitoring
- Opportunistic MCS services
- Rewarding mechanism for MCS services
- Fog computing for Collaborative IoT
- Heterogeneous data aggregation
- Machine learning techniques for data aggregation
- Machine learning techniques for data classification
- MCS testbeds and platforms
- NLP techniques for crowdsensed services
- Privacy for crowdsensed data
- User behavior classification from public data
- User activity recognition
- User profiling
Inportant dates:
- March 15th March 29th - Paper Submission Deadline
- April 20th - Notification of Acceptance
- May 1st - Camera Ready Submission Deadline

Special Session – Future trends for standardization and design of vehicular
networks
Recent evolution of the automotive industry have enabled the development of
Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs), with the goal to promote
increased traffic efficiency and enhanced safety for vehicles and
pedestrians. Wireless networks can fully unleash the potential of CAVs by
promoting cooperation among vehicles and the fixed infrastructure on roads
and highways, and this has motivated the study of different technologies
for vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V)
communications (also jointly referred to as vehicle-to-everything (V2X)
networking). As of today, the two main radio technologies that support V2X
communications are 3GPP Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) and IEEE 802.11p. These,
however, will not completely fulfill the foreseen challenging requirements
(in terms of, e.g., ultra low latency, and ultra high reliability and
throughput) of future vehicular services.
This motivates the design and analysis of next-generation V2I and V2V
networks, with the introduction of new, more capable technologies. In this
regard, the 3GPP and the IEEE are presenting new study items,
specifications and standard drafts on future vehicular networks. 3GPP
NR-V2X extends the specifications of 3GPP NR to support sidelink
communications, and integrates in vehicular networks the flexibility of the
NR frame, protocol stack and spectrum usage. Similarly, IEEE 802.11bd
targets communications in the usual 5.9 GHz band, but also in the
unlicensed mmWave spectrum. The usage of a heterogeneous set of spectrum
bands and technologies (sub-6 GHz, mmWaves, VLC) could benefit future
connected services, but, at the same time, introduces the need for new
research and standardization efforts that range from channel modeling, to
the design of the full-protocol stack, with challenges at the physical,
MAC, network and transport layers.
This special session aims at collecting original contributions that can
advance the state of the art on the design challenges for V2X networks,
with a focus on three main areas of interest. First of all, we look forward
to submissions that discuss 3GPP and IEEE standardization efforts, as well
as of new services, applications, business models and trials of V2X
networks. Second, it is of particular interest the analysis and design of
channel models, physical layer, beam and/or mobility management, resource
allocation, network and transport layer schemes for next-generation V2X,
with a focus also on mmWave and VLC communications. Finally, this special
session welcomes papers on the application of learning techniques in
vehicular scenarios, and on security and privacy concerns for V2X,
especially if linked to standard proposals and developments.
Topics of interest for the special session include, but are not limited to:
- IEEE and 3GPP vehicular standards
- New services and applications for connected cars
- Cooperative services in vehicular networks
- Millimeter waves for vehicular networks
- Visible light communication (VLC) for vehicular networks
- Spectrum coexistence and spectrum sharing among V2X technologies
- Channel models for vehicular networks
- Beam management in vehicular networks
- Resource allocation and mobility management in vehicular networks
- Routing and transport protocols in vehicular networks
- Security/trust/privacy in vehicular networks
- Bringing learning to connected cars
- Trials and business models in vehicular networks
The papers of this special session will go through the same rigorous
single-blind peer-review process of the main conference. Submitted
manuscripts must be original and not be published or under review
elsewhere. Papers must not infringe any copyright or third party right. The
proceedings of EW 2020 will be published and will be made available on IEEE
Xplore. EDAS submission link:

CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
================================================
IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Computing
Special Issue on Energy-Efficient Edge Computing
================================================
Submission deadline (EXTENDED): April 15, 2020
The future increase in the amount of data and workloads generated by
Internet
of Things (IoT) devices and connected sensors will lead to the necessity to
move computational nodes from the cloud data centers closer to the data
source,
i.e., at the edge of the cloud, for reduced latency. An edge system is
composed
of any computing and networking resources along the path between data
sources
and cloud data centers. Depending on the specific computing needs, edge
computing devices can use either a wireless or a wired connection to
exchange
messages with the data sources. IoT devices and sensors can then exploit the
hierarchical structure of the edge and cloud system to analyze the collected
data and provide useful information to users in a timely manner. For
example,
wearable sensors could use the computing resources of the user’s smartphone,
laptop, or even smart vehicle to analyze the collected data. Because a large
majority of edge devices are battery operated and have limited connectivity,
the energy efficiency of computation becomes critical. To this end, it is
important to minimize the energy consumption of all the components of an
edge
system, including sensors, IoT devices, edge nodes, and network devices
while
guaranteeing the desired performance. For this special issue we solicit
original experimental, conceptual, and theoretical contributions on the
following topics related to energy-efficient edge computing:
- energy-aware application placement and offloading
- energy-aware resource management
- energy-aware data management
- energy-aware edge2cloud coordination
- energy-aware sensing for edge computing systems
- energy-efficient hardware architectures for edge computing and devices
- energy-efficient edge computing for AI applications
- energy-efficient edge computing applications
- edge computing powered by distributed renewable energy resources
- energy-efficient vehicular edge computing
- energy-efficient edge computing for autonomous robots
- energy-efficient networks for edge computing

Call for Papers
3rd Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems
and Internet of Things (CPS-IoTBench'20)
in conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2020
September 21-25, 2020 - London, UK
https://cpsbench20.ethz.ch/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last decade, research on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet
of Things (IoT) has led to smart systems at different scales and
environments,
from smart homes to smart cities and smart factories. Despite many
successes,
it is difficult to measure and compare the utility of these results due to a
lack of standard evaluation criteria and methodologies. This problem
inhibits
evaluation against the state-of-the-art, the comparability of different
integrated designs (e.g., control and networking), and the applicability of
tested scenarios to present and future real-world cyber-physical
applications
and deployments. This state of affairs is alarming, it significantly hinders
further progress in CPS and IoT systems research.
******** TOPICS ********
The Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things
(CPS-IoTBench) brings together researchers from the different
sub-communities
to engage in a lively debate on all facets of rigorously evaluating and
comparing cyber-physical networks and systems. Unique to this workshop, we
seek reports describing the reproduction of experimental results reported in
published papers. Examples of this include researchers looking to validate
another piece of work before comparing their own to it, or industrial
organizations evaluating a new technology or demonstrating the robustness
of their technology before customer delivery.
We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit
papers focusing on one of the following topics:
- describe an attempt to reproduce experimental results from published work;
- identify fundamental challenges and open questions in rigorous
benchmarking
and evaluation of cyber-physical networks and systems;
- report on success stories/failures with using standard evaluation
criteria;
- present example benchmark systems and approaches from any relevant
community
(embedded systems, networking, control, robotics, machine learning);
- propose new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the
level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results;
- report on examples of best practices in different CPS sub-communities
towards achieving the repeatability of results;
- present models to capture & compare the properties of algorithms &
systems;
Well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations are sufficient to
support a
paper's claims.
Submitted papers must be written in English and may contain up to 6 pages,
including references, figures, and tables. We will follow a double-blind
reviewing process, therefore authors must anonymize their submissions.
References to the authors' own previous work must not be omitted, but
referred to in third person. Accepted papers will be published either on
OpenReview.net or on the ACM Digital Library.
******** IMPORTANT DATES ********
- Paper submission deadline: May 15, 2020 (11:59:59PM EST)
- Notification of acceptance: July 1, 2020
- Camera-ready versions: July 31, 2020
