Abstract Submission May 10
Paper Submission May 17
Author Rebuttal August 1-5
Notification August 23
Final Version Due September 13
The annual ACM/IFIP Middleware conference is a major forum for the discussion of innovations and recent scientific advances of middleware systems with a focus on the design, implementation, deployment, and evaluation of distributed systems, platforms and architectures for computing, storage, and communication. Highlights of the conference will include a high quality single-track technical program, invited speakers, an industrial track, panel discussions involving academic and industry leaders, poster and demonstration presentations, a doctoral symposium, tutorials and workshops.
Original submissions of research papers on a diversity of topics are sought, particularly those identifying new research directions. The topics of the conference include, but are not limited to:
* Cloud and data centers
* Virtualization, auto-scaling, provisioning, and scheduling
* Data-intensive computing (big data) and data analytics
* Stream Processing
* Machine learning
* Mobile and pervasive systems and services
* Internet-of-Things, smart cities
* Fog, Edge computing
* Cyber-physical and Real-time systems
* Energy and power-aware techniques
* Event-based, publish/subscribe, and peer-to-peer solutions
* Networking, network function virtualization, software-defined networking
* Multimedia Systems
* Fault tolerance and Consistency
* Blockchains
* Security and privacy
* Monitoring, resource management and analysis
* Middleware Design principles
* Programming abstractions and paradigms for middleware
* Reconfigurable, adaptable, and reflective approaches
* Reviews of middleware paradigms, e.g., object models, aspect orientation, etc.
* Methodologies and tools for design, implementation, verification, and evaluation
Submission Guidelines
Submitted papers must have at most 12 pages of technical content, including text, figures, and appendices, but excluding any number of additional pages for bibliographic references. Note that submissions must be double-blind: authors’ names must not appear, and authors must make a good faith attempt to anonymize their submissions. Submitted papers must adhere to the formatting instructions of the ACM SIGPLAN style, which can found on the ACM template page. Please note that it is preferable, although not mandatory, to use a 10pt font instead of 9pt one.
The Middleware 2019 conference proceedings will be published in the ACM Digital Library. The official publication date will be the date the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library which may be up to two weeks prior to the first day of the Middleware conference. Note that the official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.
Software and Data Artifact Availability for Accepted Papers
The authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit supporting materials to be made publicly available as “source materials” in the ACM Digital Library. The materials will be vetted by the Artifact Availability Evaluation process run by a separate committee. The Fifth IEEE International Workshop on Internet of Things: Networking
Applications and Technologies (IoTNAT 2019)
<http://emergingtechnet.org/IOTNAT2019/index.php>
in conjunction with
The 4th International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC
2019) <http://emergingtechnet.org/FMEC2019/index.php>
Rome, Italy. June 10-13, 2019
(Technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE Italy Section)
*IoTNAT 2019 CFP*
The Internet of Things (IoT) technology offers unprecedented opportunities
to interconnect human beings as well as Machine-to-Machine (M2M), whereby
sensors and networks allow all ‘things’ to communicate directly with each
other to share vital information allowing us to have an instrumented
universe where accurate data is readily available to inform optimal
decision making. The IoT is about to enable a range of new capabilities and
services far beyond today’s offerings. It will fundamentally change how
people go about their lives. According to Gartner, the number of objects
connected to the Internet is set to reach 20 billion by 2020. Cisco
estimates the number will be close to 26 billion objects by 2020. Others
believe the actual number will be even higher with the assumption that any
object with a simple micro controller and on-off switch will be connected
to the Internet in the near feature. The scale of the IoT is set to have a
major economic, social and environmental impacts; the intersection of which
forms the future sustainable growth. The IEEE International Workshop on
Internet of Things: Networking Applications and Technologies (IoTNAT 2019)
Symposium will be held in conjunction with The Second International
Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC 2019). The IoTNAT 2019
Symposium aims at soliciting original ideas on the broad area of IoT
including challenges and opportunities, concepts and applications and
future trends. The Symposium aims to facilitate discussions among academics
and IoT practitioners and make positive contributions to the field. Authors
are invited to submit original, unpublished manuscripts. Submitted papers
should be in accordance with IEEE format, and will be reviewed by at least
two expert reviewers in terms of relevance, originality, contribution,
correctness, and presentation.

New trends seen in cloud computing in the last couple of years include:
computing at the edge of the network outside centralized data centers,
using heterogeneous processors, such as hardware accelerators in the
cloud for making applications execute faster, using lightweight
deployment strategies, such as containers and unikernels, in transient
environments, ecosystems built on containers that enable more
abstraction, and novel applications finding new generation clouds to
satisfy their requirements.
Definitions, architectures and approaches that are relevant to the
current generation of clouds will evolve significantly to accommodate
the emerging paradigms that rely on the cloud. Future clouds will
therefore need to address new challenges related to scalability,
management, reliability, sustainability, heterogeneity and security.
Addressing these challenges naturally paves way for new cloud trends,
directions and research.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
This special issue welcomes research in all avenues of the next
generation cloud computing, but are not limited to:
+ Infrastructure – hardware, middleware and software
+ Architectures – emerging distributed and decentralized clouds using
fog/edge, serverless computing, blockchain technologies and container

CALL FOR PAPERS - IEEE SmartSys 2019
Fourth IEEE Workshop on Smart Service Systems (SmartSys)
Co-located with the IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing
(SMARTCOMP 2019)
Washington D.C., June 12th/15th, 2019
http://mpsc.umbc.edu/smartsys/2019/
Technology succeeds when it provides benefits to the society either
directly or indirectly. Understanding the societal and economic impact
and human-centered aspects of a smart system or technology in advance
and designing the system a-priori with potential value-added services
help spur the discoveries of new tools, methodologies and innovative
services. Smart service systems span across a variety of
socio-technical facets comprising of devices, people, organizations,
environments, and technologies to sense, actuate, control and assess the
physical, cyber and societal artifacts of the human service systems.
Besides the systems being self-adaptive and fault-tolerant, need to be
designed in such a way that it can continuously increase the quality and
productivity, the compliance and sustainability of the smart services it
offers. While human-centered perspective and cognitive learning help
create multi-facet value added services and catalyze the sustained
economic growth of smart service systems, understanding the multi-modal
sensing, control, heterogeneity and interdependency between different
physical, virtual and logical components of such a complex system will
enable the realization of new transformative smarter service systems. If
successful, this can help improve the quality-of-service of the
customers, quality-of-life of the citizens and quality-of returns of the
stakeholders and investors.
Nurturing the development of smart service systems seeks for inter- and
trans-disciplinary crosscutting research threads from system and
operational engineering, computer science and information systems,
social and behavioral science, computational modeling and industrial
engineering etc. The goal of this workshop is to bring together
practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry in order
to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the
fundamental knowledge and principles of smart service systems that
enable the value co-creation in sensing, actuating, data analytics,
learning, cognition, and control of human centric cyber-physical-social
systems and future of work.. Research contributions are solicited in all
areas pertinent to smart human services and systems, including:
• Innovative technologies, tools, methodologies and solutions for smart
service systems; example includes personalized healthcare, smart energy,
smart cities, smart manufacturing, intelligent transportation,
education, precision medicine and agriculture, national security etc. •
