CALL FOR PAPERS
The 12th ACM International Workshop on Wireless Network Testbeds,
Experimental evaluation & CHaracterization
(ACM WiNTECH 2018)
https://sigmobile.org/mobicom/2018/workshops/wintech/index.html
October 29, 2018 / New Delhi, India
======================================================================
SCOPE
ACM WiNTECH workshop is purposely tailored to disseminate research
activities related to novel methods and techniques to manage experimental
testbeds, innovative wireless communication applications and plat-forms.
WiNTECH, which will celebrate its 12th edition this year, stands out as one
of the most long-lasting workshops co-located with ACM MobiCom. WiNTECH
offers a consolidated experience to academics and industrial practitioners
that seek to bridge the gap between fundamental models/algorithms and
practical communication systems and experimental platforms. The workshop
will serve as a forum for sharing experiences and results with real
testbeds, experimental evaluation, prototyping and empirical
characterization of wireless technologies.
We are seeking original, previously unpublished papers empirically
addressing key issues and challenges in wireless networking. All
submissions will be judged by their technical merit and relevance to the
workshop, based on a thorough review process by the Technical Program
Committee.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Designing and evaluation of wireless testbeds and prototyping platforms
for:
** mmWave and Terahertz communications and networking
** Long-Range/Low-Power Wide-Area Wireless Networking
** Mobile/Wireless Research & Edge / Cloud Computing

In Sensornetzen, Internet-of-Things,
Cyber-Physical-Networks, ... kommunizieren nun Geräte verschiedenster
Art und für verschiedenste Zweckr miteinander. In manchen Szenarien
Zudem bestehen sehr breite
und unterschiedliche Anwendungsbereiche, die oftmals spezielle
Anforderungen an alle einzelnen Komponenten stellen.

- Device-to-Device communication
- Mobile Ad hoc und Mesh Netze
- Automobilanwendungen und Smart Vehicles in Networked Worlds
- Transportation, Fleet Management, Traffic Management
- Verteilte Systeme für das IoT, IoT Protokolle und Standardisierung
- Sensordatenerfassung und Crowd Sensing
- Hausautomatisierung und Verteilte Energieanwendungen
- Smart Buildings und Smart Cities
- Zuverlässigkeit und Performanzeigenschaften
- Energie- und ressourceneffiziente Sensorknoten und Sensornetze
- Werkzeuge für Test und Evaluation (Simulatoren, Emulatoren,
Testbeds, ...)

SCOPE AND OVERVIEW
__________________
Challenged networks comprise those situations where communication is
desired, but traditional Internet architectures fail to provide it
effectively. Such networks may be characterized by intermittent
connectivity, a heterogeneous mix of nodes, frequent nodal churn, and
widely varying network conditions. The applications of challenged networks
range from time-critical communications such as for disaster relief to
delay-tolerant transmission in poorly connected regions or where censorship
should be counteracted. However, challenged networking has also found many
applications in everyday settings, for which they were not initially
conceived, such as opportunistic networking supporting data-centric
communications, traffic offloading from cellular networks, mobile
cloud/edge computing, opportunistic and participatory sensing as well as
challenged IoT.
This workshop builds on the success of the twelve previous CHANTS
workshops, and WDTN 2005, and aims to stimulate research on the most novel
topics of challenged networking research. This year’s edition encourages
submission of theoretical and experimental work (including studies of real
deployment), with a primary interest in new directions of challenged
networking in concrete application scenarios and demonstrators in areas
such as autonomous driving, underwater robots, emergency response
operations, underground mining, interplanetary missions, polar research and
unmanned aerial vehicles. The workshop seeks original work presented in the
form of research papers describing new research approaches and results, as
well as demo and poster submissions. Highly disruptive work-in-progress and
position papers are also welcome, provided they focus on particularly
innovative solutions or applications for challenged networks. All papers
shall be forward-looking, describe their relationship to existing work, and
shall argue their impact and implications for ongoing or future research.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Delay/disruption-tolerant networks (DTNs), opportunistic communication
and computing
• Architecture, design, and implementation of communication systems for
challenged networks
• Communication systems and networks for underground mining
• Underwater communication systems and networks
• Security/trust/privacy concerns and solutions in challenged networks
• Networking in polar regions
• Millimeter Wave Networking
• Modeling, analysis, and characterization of challenged networks and
protocols
• Challenged networking techniques for mobile cloud computing

sensing
• Challenged networking in the Internet of Things
• Challenged networking in Cyber-Physical Systems
• Software-defined networking in challenged environments
• Energy-efficient communication in challenged networks
• Space-terrestrial networks, lunar networks as well as interplanetary
networks
• Information centric and content-centric networking in challenged networks

IEEE Internet of Things Journal Special Issue on
“Enabling a Smart City: Internet of Things Meets AI”
Future cities are to be not only an intelligent and green living
environment but also providing human-centered public services at a lower
cost. The Internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) are
two cornerstone technologies enabling smart cities, and have been
interacting with each other into an organic ecosystem. Some particular
joint points where IoT meets AI are intelligent IoT devices, smart
sensing boosted by AI, and IoT big data mining with AI. The trend of
“IoT meetings AI” has already cast significant impact on the aspects
characterizing a smart city. Smartphones are able to learn the touching
pattern of users; home Wi-Fi router can intelligently detect and locate
an intruder; vehicles network and communicate with each other for
traffic control; video cameras installed in the street can perform face
recognition locally. At the same time, the bright future of smart city
has also motivated many scientific and engineering challenges for both
academia and industry, in order to fully exploit the capabilities and
benefits brought by the IoT and AI. Some important areas are smart city
IT infrastructure planning; framework, protocol, algorithm for smart
sensing and data mining; novel intelligent hardware platform or software
framework; smart city modeling; security and energy efficiency. This
special issue is to let researchers present their recent work showing
how the IoT and AI can work together to enable a real smart city. Topics
of interests include (but are not limited to) the following categories:
IT infrastructure design for smart city
IoT device search in smart city
Representation of sensing knowledge from massive IoT devices
Machine Learning techniques for big data
Event alert and prediction in smart city
Smart city applications such as healthcare, transportation and public
security
Intelligent IoT sensing
Crowdsensing
Novel IoT devices
Trustable and secure smart city technologies
Smart city architecture and modeling
Super large-scale multi-agent system
Human, IoT and AI Communication Protocols
Privacy protection in IoT applications
