Call for Papers
Connected vehicles are becoming a cornerstone of the increasingly
connected world and the deployment phase of the first generation of
vehicular networks is now closer than ever. As the applications for
connected vehicles so does the demand for reliable networking.
Large-scale testbeds are running or planned in different parts of the
world, while multiple discussions are taking place at different levels
and in different forums about the next generation of vehicular networks.
The automated (and connected) vehicle will soon come into play and may
significantly change the roots of vehicular networks. The 2017 IEEE
Vehicular Networking Conference (VNC) seeks to bring together
researchers, professionals, and practitioners to present and discuss
recent developments and challenges in vehicular networking technologies,
and their applications.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
• 5G technologies for connected vehicles • Communications and networking
for automated and semi-automated vehicles • Congestion and awareness
control in vehicular networks • Novel technologies for V2X (TVWS, LTE-D,
VLC, etc.) • Safety and non-safety applications of vehicular networks,
including ITS • V2V, V2I and V2X communications and networking protocols
• Vehicular communications with VRUs (Vulnerable Road Users) e.g., with
bicyclists, pedestrians, etc.
• In-vehicle communications (wireless or wired) • Radio propagation and
technologies for vehicular networks (propagation models, antennas, etc.)
• Protocols for vehicular networking (radio resource management, link
layer, routing, mobility management, dissemination, transport etc.) •
Security, privacy, liability, and dependability in vehicular networks •
Network and QoS management for vehicular networks • Simulation and
performance evaluation techniques for vehicular networks • Results from
experimental systems, testbeds, and pilot studies • Impact assessments
of vehicular networks on safety, transportation efficiency, and the
environment
• Communications related to electric and hybrid vehicles • Heterogeneous
networking approaches (multi-radio, multi-channel, multi-application,
multi-technology) • Integration of V2V with on-board systems and
networks • Vehicular networking architectures and system design
• Applications and services to enhance driver experience, performance,
and behavior
Selected papers will be considered for possible fast track publication
in Elsevier Computer Communications journal.
Important Dates
Full/short paper submission deadline: August 14, 2017
Demo/Poster paper submission deadline: August 28, 2017
Acceptance notification: October 2, 2017
Camera ready paper due: October 16, 2017
Conference: November 27-29, 2017
Manuscript submissions
We will consider two different categories of papers: Full papers (8
pages) and Short papers (4 pages), in addition to Poster and Demo papers

Call For Competition
====================
September 2017 - Sapporo, Japan
-------------------------------
IPIN is pleased to announce the IPIN 2017 Indoor Localization
Competition, to be held during the IPIN 2017 Conference in Sapporo
(Japan). The competition is aimed at bringing together the academic and
industrial research communities for evaluating different approaches and
envisioning new research opportunities for the indoor localization area,
where no accepted standards exist yet.
IPIN 2017 Indoor Localization Competition will consist of several
tracks, including on-site and off-site contests. Results will be
presented during dedicated sessions of the IPIN conference and prizes
will be awarded to the winners.
The competition builds on the experience of previous competitions
based on EvAAL framework, ensuring experience, solidity and a
well-founded scientific method (http://evaal.aaloa.org).
Competition Tracks
------------------
Track 1: Smartphone-based
Track 2: Pedestrian dead reckoning
Track 3: Smartphone-based (off-site)
Track 4: PDR for warehouse picking (off-site)
Track 1 "Smartphone-based": A pedestrian walking in multi-floor
buildings carries a smartphone which runs the competing system, without
any external aid, using the sensors available on the smartphones to
identify the user's position in real time.
Prize: 150,000 JPY awarded by KICS (KR)
Track 2: "Pedestrian dead reckoning": The competing system
uses MEMS sensors (inertial, compass and altimeter pressure sensors)
mounted on the body to localize a pedestrian walking in multi-floor
buildings; control and monitoring devices such as a notebook are carried
by the user.
Prize: 150,000 JPY awarded by ETRI (KR)
Track 3: "Smartphone-based (off-site)": The goal is to localize a
pedestrian walking under realistic conditions in multi-floor buildings
using data provided by a conventional smartphone (WiFi, inertial,
magnetic, GPS, pressure, light, ...). Competitors calibrate their
algorithms in advance using a ground truth reference database, and
compete using new unreferenced data.
Prize: to be defined
Track 4: "PDR for warehouse picking (off-site)": Data from inertial,
pressure and magnetic sensors and BLE data from a smartphone plus
picking records from a warehouse management system (WMS) are collected
during 3 hours of actual picking work by 8 people carrying a smartphone
on their back in a warehouse, with actions including walking, picking
and carrying. Competitors obtain sample data and test data to calibrate
their algorithms, and compete using separate actual data.
Prize: 150,000 JPY or more worth prize awarded by
PDR benchmark standardization committee (JP)
Technical Competition Details
-----------------------------
The evaluation criteria for the competition, restrictions on the
accepted technologies, technical rules to follow and a description of
the benchmarks are detailed in the technical annexes to this
call. Announcements and possible refinements of the annexes, also based
on candidate competitors' comments, will be timely distributed on the
competition discussion mailing list <contest(a)evaal.aaloa.org> and will
appear on the IPIN web site.
Maps of the competition area and all the relative information will be
provided by the end of April.
All the data gathered by the competition committee during the
competition, including data produced by competing systems, will be
published after the competition for the purpose of research and
comparison. Winners of the competition will be announced during the
conference.
Competitor Admission Process
----------------------------
A "competitor" can be any individual or group of individuals working as
a single team, associated to a single or a number of organizations, who
wants to participate in one or several tracks.
Competitors apply for admission to the competition tracks by providing a
short (2 to 4 pages) "technical description" of their localization
system, including a description of the algorithms and protocols used.
The technical description must be sent by e-mail to the chairs of the
intended track. Track chairs will accept or refuse the application in a
short time, based on technical feasibility and logistic constraints.
After acceptance of the competitor's technical description, one member
of the competing team is required to register to the IPIN conference,
specifying that the registration is linked to a competition track. Full
registration to the conference covers participation in the competition
process (allocated time, support and space) and the submission of a
paper describing the system.
Competitors are required to make an oral presentation of their system
during a dedicated session at the IPIN conference. Additionally,
competitor teams are invited, but not required, to submit a paper to the
conference. The paper will follow the same peer review and publishing
process as all the other papers submitted to IPIN. If the paper is
work-in-progress, competitors can benefit from relaxed deadline as
specified below.
Competitors who wish to test their system, but do not want to be
included in the public rankings and compared with other competitors, can
ask for that special condition in advance to the chairs of the relevant
track.
Important dates
---------------
Technical description: 15 July 2017
Notification of admission: shortly after request

CALL FOR PAPERS
International Workshop on Very Large Internet of Things (VLIoT 2017)
In conjunction with VLDB 2017
August 28, 2017, Munich, Germany
Submission: April 17, 2017 - Submission deadline has been extended!
Web: http://www.ifis.uni-luebeck.de/~groppe/vliot
********************************************************************
** Aims of the Workshop **
An increasing number of real-world objects are becoming accessible and
manageable through the Internet. According to CISCO, the number of these
devices will reach 50 billion by 2020, forming a very large Internet of
Things (VLIoT). This massive number of "smart" objects will cooperate
with each other, have their own metadata, and may continuously produce
new data (in form of events, sensor data, or actuator states). Data
management will be a major challenge in the very large Internet of
Things. Hence, efficient IoT infrastructure and technologies must be
developed to handle masses of IoT data with high performance. This will
include: new techniques to filter and store relevant data; efficient
replication approaches for objects with constrained resources in order
to increase availability and durability; new protocols for voting about
decisions among objects; and smooth integration of heterogeneous objects.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together academic researchers and
industry practitioners working in the field of IoT and to allow them to
report and exchange their findings addressing these challenges. This
workshop also intends to discuss other closely-related technologies such
as Nanotechnology, Fog-, Edge-, and Dew-Computing for IoT. The ideas of
Fog, Edge and Dew Computing may indeed solve or attenuate the problems
of a very large Internet of Things (w.r.t. performance,
energy-efficiency, as well as security and privacy aspects).
** Types of Papers **
The workshop welcomes contributions describing original ideas, promising
new concepts, and practical experience. In particular, we solicit papers
of different types:
- Research Papers proposing new approaches, theories or techniques
related to Internet of Things, including new data structures,
algorithms, whole systems, and frameworks. They should make substantial
theoretical and empirical contributions to the research field.
- Experiments and Analysis Papers focusing on the experimental
evaluation of existing approaches including data structures and
algorithms for Internet of Things and bring new insights through the
analysis of these experiments. Results of experiments and analysis
papers can be, for example, showing benefits of well-known approaches in
new settings and environments, opening new research problems by
demonstrating unexpected behavior or phenomena, or comparing a set of
traditional approaches in an experimental survey.
- Application Papers reporting practical experiences on Internet of
Things applications. Application papers might describe specific
application domains in the IoT such as smart homes/offices/cities,
continuous health care, waste management, emergency response,
intelligent response, and Industry 4.0.
- Vision Papers identifying emerging or future research issues and
directions, and describing new research visions in the IoT area that may
have a great impact on our society.
** Topics of Interest **
We welcome papers on the following and other relevant topics:
- Semantic IoT
- Privacy-by-design and security-by-design in IoT
- System architectures for IoT, e.g.
- things-centric,
- data-centric,
- event-centric, and
- service-centric.
- IoT applications including:
- smart homes/offices/cities,
- waste management,
- health care,
- emergency response, and
- intelligent shopping.
- Nano Technology including:
- Nano Networks,
- Nano communication,
- Nano applications,
- Nano computing, and
- Internet of Nano Things.
- IoT programming toolkits and frameworks
- IoT prototypes and evaluation test-beds

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Special Section in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics "From Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks to Industrial IoT"
Dear All,
Please find below a call for papers for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics.
Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this announcement.
---------------
CALL FOR PAPER:
Special Section in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics "From Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks to Industrial IoT"
Deadline for manuscript submissions July 1, 2017 This CFP can be seen at the website of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics at http://tii.ieee-ies.org/.
The THEME
--------------
Ever-growing volume of data and information is being captured from systems, machines and devices and made available to IT systems. The information is processed on-the-fly enabling IT-based management systems to make decisions for real-time control of the manufacturing process. This data capturing and collection for IT systems is often referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT). When adopted to the industrial automation systems where robustness, reliability, security and latency and jitters are highly desired performance requirements, it is often called Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
Industrial communication systems today primarily consist of legacy systems such as HART, Foundation FIELDBUS, CAN and Profibus - well-working and established industry-specific networks installed in millions of systems. In the last decades, there has been a push for IP-based technology which has made Ethernet become a popular communication infrastructure. But to meet the stringent timing requirements of industrial applications, it has been necessary to implement real-time functionality. The communication plays a central role for the availability of all relevant information in real-time. Furthermore, it is indisputable that the mobility of objects involved in the production as well as the necessary flexibility of the production require wireless communication systems. The need for wireless communication is steadily increasing in many automation applications. In order to fully exploit the potentials offered by wireless communication for monitoring, control and automation applications, there is a further need for time-constrained communication protocols that provide bounded latency together with high reliability or energy efficiency. In addition, wireless automation applications need to interact with legacy wired communications systems and provide equivalent levels of security and dependability. Furthermore, industrial settings are highly dynamic environments which call for the ability to adapt to changes in the operating conditions while still not violating the time-constraints of the applications. Given the above scenarios, there is a need to disseminate, streamline and investigate research findings coming from several different application domains, namely from factory automation to industrial process monitoring and control, from traffic, environmental, building and structural monitoring to mobile robotics, from vehicular communication to energy management and healthcare applications. This need is especially driven by the industry interest in enabling large-scale wireless deployments for the sake of flexible, competitive and cost-efficient production.
The goal of this special section is to attract papers addressing the main research issues in design, development, adoption and applications of Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks and Industrial Internet-of-Things. IIoT provides a great opportunity to new gains in flexibility and productivity but also challenges as to how to merge existing installations to these new technologies.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
* Architecture and protocol design for industrial IoT systems
* 5G for future industrial automation
* Security, safety and privacy issues in industrial wireless networks and applications
* Deployment, integration and case studies of IWSN and IIoT
* Performance evaluation, simulation, RF measurements, and modeling of industrial IoT systems
* Embedded industrial IoT applications
* Intelligent M2M Communications in industrial IoT
* Cognitive IIoT
* Cloud-based IIoT solutions
The use of information technology also opens up new application areas for automation systems. Examples include but are not limited to:
* Smart Manufacturing and Web-of-Things in the factory line
* Process, Factory, Home and Building Automation
* Smart grids / Smart metering
* Industrial Robotics and Automation
* Smart and Connected Health

-=* The 15th ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems
(SenSys) *=-
Call for Papers
To help prospective authors concentrate their efforts on one paper at a
time,
the abstract registration and submission deadline for “new directions”
papers is
shifted by three weeks. Check below the new dates.
Sensors have become an essential part of computing systems and
applications. Computing today is increasingly characterised by
ubiquitous, information-rich sensors that produce massive quantities
of data about the physical world. This new era of computing is driving
important new systems issues, and requires new system-level approaches
and design principles.
The ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems (SenSys 2017)
is a computer systems conference focused on the architecture, design,
implementation, and performance of sensors, broadly defined, as well
as sensor-enabled smart systems. ACM SenSys brings together academic,
industry, and government professionals to a single-track, highly
selective forum on networked sensing design, implementation, and
applications. ACM SenSys is the premier forum to discuss systems
issues that arise specifically due to sensing. The conference takes a
broad view on the areas of computing that are relevant to the future
of sensor systems, and topics of interest include but are not limited
to the following:
* New platforms and hardware designs for sensor-enabled systems
* Systems software, including operating systems and network stacks
* Low power operation, energy harvesting, and energy management
* Applications and deployment experiences
* Protocols for sensing devices and their connection to the Internet
* Mobile and pervasive systems, including personal wearable devices and
robots
* Sensing, actuation, and control
* Key system services such as time and location estimation
* Data management, including quality, integrity, and trustworthiness
* Learning, adaptation, and autonomy in cyber physical systems
* Fault-tolerance and reliability
* Heterogeneous multi-agent sensing, including human-robot sensor systems
* Security and privacy of sensor-enabled computer systems
We invite technical papers describing original ideas, ground-breaking
results, and/or real-world experiences involving innovative sensor
systems. Successful submissions will explain why the topic is relevant
to a vision of the future of sensing systems. Submissions will be
judged on originality, significance, clarity, relevance, and
correctness. In addition to citing relevant, published work, authors
must cite and relate their submissions to relevant prior publications
of the their own. Ethical approval for experiments with human subjects
should be demonstrated as part of the submission.
In addition to regular papers around the topics above, ACM SenSys this
year solicits new directions papers discussing the future of
sensor-enabled computer systems. New direction papers shall present a
compelling vision of the field five years from now, discuss what
current or foreseeable technologies hold the highest potential within
this time frame, and argue on what are the key research problems the
community needs to tackle right now to eventually realize this
vision. New direction papers will be reviewed separately by the SenSys
steering committee. Accepted papers will be part of the proceedings,
alongside regular papers, and their authors will be invited to a panel
session, together with leading experts, to share their vision. "New
directions" papers are required to follow the same submission
guidelines, but be limited to 6 pages everything included.
Submission Guidelines
Submissions must be full papers, at most 12 single-spaced 8.5” x 11”
pages, including figures and tables, but excluding references,
two-column format, using 10-point type on 11-point (tight
single-spaced) leading, with a maximum text block of 7” wide x 9” deep
with an intercolumn spacing of .25”. Submissions may include as many
pages as needed for references. The review process is
double-blind. Authors must make a good faith effort to anonymize their
submissions. Prior works of their own must be discussed by referring
to the authors in third person. Papers that do not meet the size,
formatting, and anonymization requirements will not be
reviewed. Accepted submissions will be available on the ACM digital
library at least one week before the conference.
Important Dates
Regular papers:
Paper Registration and Abstract: April 3, 2017, AOE.
Paper Submission Deadline: April 10, 2017, AOE.
“New directions” papers:
Paper Registration and Abstract: April 24, 2017, AOE.
Paper Submission Deadline: May 1, 2017, AOE.
