SENSEAPP 2016
ELEVENTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES IN
BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2016)
The Address Dubai Mall, Dubai, UAE
7-10 November 2016
http://www.senseapp.org
CALL FOR PAPERS
==============================================================
For more than a decade, embedded wireless sensors and actuators have
been increasingly networked to continually narrow the gap between the
physical world and cyberspace. Domain-specific sensing deployments in
scenarios
like industrial settings and home automation are becoming more and more
ubiquitous, particularly with the advent of novel sensing platforms which
allow for the seamless integration of sensing devices into everyday
environments. At the same time, data gathered through wireless sensor
network deployments empower applications in the emerging domains of smart
cities and smart infrastructures.
While enabling technologies have evolved into mature and widely available
solutions, insights gathered from real-world sensor network deployments
are still scarce and many practical issues in building sensor network
applications persist. A thorough understanding of these challenges from a
practical/systems perspective is still necessary. This especially applies
to insights from the areas of hardware platforms of sensor and actuator
nodes, their operating systems, the networking of nodes, and fresh
perspectives from field trials and applications.
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from both academia and
industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. It serves as a forum
for the sensing network research communities working on embedded sensing
systems to discuss open issues, novel solutions, and the future
development of wireless sensing in general. We encourage contributions
describing innovative work in the realms of wireless sensor networks,
cyber-physical systems, smart spaces, and all related disciplines.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Practical experiences from innovative real-world sensor network
deployments and applications
- Hands-on experiences with the integration of sensor networks and the
Internet of Things
- Middleware support for sensor networks
- Programming and debugging sensor networks
- Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks
- Experiences with new sensor hardware and node/platform designs
- Experiences with sensor hardware integration
- Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization
- Experiences with communication protocols
- Practical medium access control protocols (MACs)
- Topology control and routing protocols in sensor network deployments
- Novel communication paradigms for wireless sensor networks
- Mobility management in sensor applications and deployments
- Fault-tolerance and troubleshooting sensor networks
- Antenna design and experiences with signal propagation
- Experiences regarding energy management and network lifetime
- Experiences with energy harvesters and energy-sustainable designs -

SPECIAL ISSUE OF ELSEVIER VEHICULAR COMMUNICATIONS JOURNAL ON “Internet
of Vehicles”
The Special Issue will address the needs of first generation vehicular
networking technologies and applications to go beyond present-day
systems. One such area is automated vehicles where the communication
needs will be twofold: One for cooperatively perceiving the environment,
and the other for collectively deciding on maneuvers. Such connected
autonomous vehicles would not only require reliable group
communications, but also would rely on group intelligence where they may
need to coordinate their actions (as a vehicular cloud). Another
emerging area is the view of cars as sensor platforms that monitor the
external environment (traffic, pollution, etc.) as well as the internal
CAN bus and cabin activities. In this view the cars become part of an
IoV (Internet of Vehicles) and provide useful information not only to
other cars, but also to stakeholders in the Internet (e.g., automakers,
insurance companies, content providers, etc.). In this view, one can
exploit the informati!
on capture, processing and communication resources not only of running
cars, but also of parked cars in the context of smart cities (e.g.,
using vehicles as data capture, storage and delivery instruments). The
large collected information will offer important insight, through
machine learning, on vehicular grids and smart city operations.
Topics of interest include communication issues related to (but are not
limited to):
• Vehicular clouds, group intelligence
• Software defined networking and virtualization for vehicles
• Heterogeneous/hybrid networking techniques for next generation
vehicular communications
• Collective perception techniques for automated vehicles
• Collective decision making for automated vehicles
• Services utilizing resources of vehicles
• Security for connected vehicles
• Positioning and addressing of vehicles
• Use of big data and cloud for automated vehicles
• IoV in the general context of IoT
• Mining big vehicular data for smart city services
• Use of cellular systems for vehicular networking
Submission Format and Guideline
All submitted papers must be clearly written in excellent English and
contain only original work, which has not been published by or is
currently under review for any other journal or conference. A detailed
submission guideline is available as “Guide to Authors” at:
www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/622893/authorinstruct….
All manuscripts and any supplementary material should be submitted
through Elsevier Editorial System (EES). The authors must select “SI –

Advances in the effective integration of networked sensors, building
controls, and physical infrastructure are transforming our society,
allowing the formation of unprecedented built environments and
interlocking physical, social, cyber challenges. Built environments,
including buildings and critical urban infrastructure, account for over
half of society’s energy consumption and are the mainstay of our
nation’s economy, security and health. As a result, there is a broad
recognition that systems optimizing explicitly for the built environment
are particularly important in improving our society, e.g., by increasing
its sustainability and enhancing people’s quality-of-life. These systems
represent the foundation for emerging “smart cities”.
The 3rd ACM International Conference on Systems for Energy-Efficient
Built Environments (BuildSys 2016) will be held November 16-17th, 2016
at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. We invite original
contributions in the areas of intelligent systems and applications for
the built environment. BuildSys particularly emphasizes approaches that
improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, increase performance, and add
novel functionality for improving users’ comfort and experience.
BuildSys’ scope is broad, encompassing all systems within the built
environment of the urban fabric, including not only buildings but also
critical infrastructure systems, such as water, power, communications,
and transportation that will make up the “smart cities” of the future.
BuildSys has established itself as the premier conference for
researchers and practitioners working to develop and optimize smart
infrastructure systems that are driven by sensing, computing, and
control functions.

ACM Information Centric Networking (ICN) 2016
CALL FOR POSTERS, DEMOS and Tutorials
http://conferences2.sigcomm.org/acm-icn/2016
CALL FOR POSTERS, DEMOS, and DATASETS
The ICN poster and demo sessions are intended to showcase
works-in-progress. Topics of interest are the same as those listed in the
main track CFP. We strongly encourage both student and industry
submissions. Both demos and posters should be accompanied by a 2 page
extended abstract, which will be published in the conference proceedings.
Abstract for posters, demos and datasets can be submitted via the ICN 2016
submission website.
Preparation of Posters
You are not required to submit the poster initially. Instead, you should
submit a 2 page extended abstract. If the abstract is accepted, you will
then be asked to prepare the poster. The abstract should clearly state: (a)
the problem being addressed, (b) what makes this problem interesting, (c)
your approach, and (d) the key contribution. Acceptance is based on a peer
review process of all abstracts.
A poster should be of size 32 inches x 42 inches (this is between A0 and
A1) in portrait mode. It should be visually appealing, portraying ideas
primarily via diagrams rather than text. The poster will be displayed on
easels. The organizers will supply the foam backing and a method to mount
the posters to the foam backing
In particular, we call for posters that include accompanying datasets
shared with the community. The aim is to collect and share datasets that
can hopefully become a common ground for evaluation in the ICN community.
Such posters will be eligible for a "best dataset award".
Preparation of Demos
You are required to submit a 2 page extended abstract, which describes the
demo. The extended abstract should clearly state: (a) the problem being
addressed and why it is important, (b) the approach taken and the design of
the demo, (c) the key contribution and (d) any special technical
requirements. If accepted, it is strongly recommended that a poster
supporting the demo is produced.
Acceptance is based on a peer review process of all abstracts. A "best demo
award" will be given this year, based on community judging by registered
participants
A demo should be self contained and ideally interactive. Accepted demos
will be given a table (6 feet by 30 inches), a power supply (100V TypeA)
and WiFi Internet access(NAT only) by default. Details regarding poster
preparation are described above.
Important Poster and Demo Dates
Poster and Demo Submission Deadline: July 8, 2016
Notification of Acceptance: July 29, 2016
Camera Ready Due: August 15, 2016
Conference: September 26-28, 2016
--------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR TUTORIALS
Following last year's successful tutorials, ACM ICN 2016 solicits proposals
for half- or full-day tutorials on topics relevant to the ICN research that
can help the audience gain further understanding of this new and exciting
area. In particular, we seek tutorials on intermediate and advanced topics
of critical importance to the maturing ICN field (such as, but not limited
to, applied cryptography, or technological advances for ICN, or application
of ICN to specific fields such as IoT), offered through collaboration
between ICN researchers and experts in other domains.
Tutorials may be lectures, hands-on training, or any combination of the

IEEE PerCom, now in its fifteenth year, is established as the premier
annual scholarly venue in the areas of pervasive computing and
communications. Pervasive computing and communications have evolved into
highly active areas of research and have found their way to many current
commercial systems, due to the tremendous advances in a broad spectrum
of technologies and topics including wireless networking, mobile and
distributed computing, sensor systems, ambient intelligence, and smart
devices.
PerCom is going all the way to Hawaii Big Island, famous for its
breathtaking beaches, volcanoes, and natural parks. PerCom 2017 will
provide a leading edge, scholarly forum for researchers, engineers, and
students alike to share their state-of-the art research and
developmental work in the broad areas of pervasive computing and
communications.
Research contributions are solicited in all areas pertinent to pervasive
computing and communications, including:
* Advances in systems and infrastructures. middleware systems and
services; large-scale data management for pervasive computing; clouds,
cloudlets, and fog computing; integrations of smartphones in pervasive
experiences; device-to-device coordination and self-organising networks;
opportunistic networking and sensing
* Technological innovations. architectures, protocols, and technologies
for pervasive communications; mobile and wearable computing systems and
services; smart devices and intelligent environments; positioning and
tracking technologies; sensors and RFID; energy-efficient and green
pervasive computing
* Domain-specific challenges and novel applications. urban and mobile
crowd sensing and intelligence; pervasive technologies for healthcare;
cyber-physical pervasive computing; innovative pervasive computing
applications; applications for smart cities
* Models and algorithms.

participatory and social sensing; trust, security, and privacy; user
interface, interaction, and persuasion; social networking and pervasive
computing
Authors should pay special attention to the evaluation of the work.
Contributions can be analytical, empirical, technological,
methodological, or even cross-cutting. Evaluations should be appropriate
to the type of contribution in terms of metrics and scale. Papers
reporting strong systems engineering contributions backed by solid and
appropriate evaluations are strongly encouraged.
In all cases, the impact of the contributions should be demonstrated and
evaluated in the context of pervasive computing and communications.
Papers applying known techniques from other fields must clearly
demonstrate substantial novelty in or impact on pervasive computing and
communications.
## Workshops and Affiliated Events
A number of workshops will be held in conjunction with the main
conference. Workshop papers will be included and indexed in the IEEE
digital libraries (Xplore) along with papers from the main conference.
As in the past, PerCom 2017 will also feature a PhD Forum,
Work-in-Progress Posters, and Live Demonstrations. Please visit the
conference website for details.
## Best Paper Award
The best paper will receive the prestigious Mark Weiser Best Paper Award.
Papers of particular merit will be considered for a special issue of the
Elsevier journal of Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC).
## Submission Guidelines
Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for
publication. Also, they must show a significant relevance to pervasive
computing and networking. Only electronic submissions in PDF format will
be considered. Papers must be 9 pages of technical content (10pt font,
2-column format), including text, figures, and tables and up to one
additional page for references only.
The IEEE LaTeX and Microsoft Word templates, as well as formatting

CALL FOR POSTERS AND DEMOS
ACM WiNTECH 2016 Workshop (in conjunction with MobiCom 2016). Deadline
May 22 (Abstract), May 29 (Paper submission)
The 10th ACM International Workshop on Wireless Network Testbeds,
Experimental evaluation & CHaracterization (ACM WiNTECH 2016) in
conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2016.
https://ubwins.cse.buffalo.edu/wintech2016
October 3, 2016 -- New York City, US
------------------------------------------------------------------------
WiNTECH continues its established tradition of hosting an interactive
demo and poster session, and welcomes proposals for demonstrations of
novel work in wireless network testbeds, measurement platforms and
results, and innovative prototypes. The areas of interest overlap those
listed in the workshop call for papers. The innovations showcased can be
at any layer of the protocol stack, from physical to application.
However, we particularly encourage demonstrations and posters that span
over multiple layers and wireless networking must be their key topic.
The demos must be presented live at the workshop venue, i.e., a
presentation of a powerpoint, video, etc. only is not allowed. The
posters may describe work in progress, while the session will offer an
excellent opportunity to receive feedback and discuss early research. We
emphasize that the poster/demo session is not a forum to display
commercial products. All submissions will be reviewed by the Demo/Poster
committee and will be judged by their technical merit and relevance to
the workshop. Accepted demos and posters will be included in the WiNTECH
proceedings and published in the ACM Digital Library.
===================================================
Demo Competition: WinCool
This year, we are re-introducing the WinCool competition. Cisco Meraki
will sponsor $500.00 and an MR32 with a 3-year license for the first
place prize, and an MR32 with a 3-year license for the second place
prize. All demos will be judged by a panel from industry and academia
based on the technical merit and relevance to the workshop.
===================================================
Important Dates:
- Poster/Demo submission: June 19, 2016, 23:59 EDT
- Acceptance notification: June 29, 2016
- Camera Ready: July 15, 2016
- Workshop: October 3, 2016
===================================================
