CALL FOR PAPERS
SIGCOMM 2006 - Workshop on Internet Network Management (INM'06)
Pisa, Italy, September 11
http://www.research.microsoft.com/~dmaltz/inm06
This workshop will provide an opportunity to elevate our collective
experiences with IP networks into principles and ideas that can be
implemented today or carried forward into the clean-slate design of
new networks that intrinsically support management, rather than
treating it as a bolt-on afterthought.
We seek original and thought provoking ideas, case studies,
experimental results, position papers, and clean slate
designs. Submissions concerning special-purpose networks, such as
VoIP, content distribution, or mobile wireless, are welcomed. The
workshop will provide a forum for exchange of experience, challenges,
and work-in-progress discussions.
Topics of interest include:
* new abstractions for network configuration management;
* new control plane architectures;
* data plane mechanisms to support management;
* autonomous network management systems with predictive/proactive behaviors;
* ensuring stability and coherent behavior in distributed and/or
autonomous systems;
* management of backbone, access, enterprise and home networks and
network-based applications;
* techniques and experiments for evaluating network management
architectures;
* requirements for experimental platforms that support network management
research;
* comparisons between IP network management and ATM, SONET, or
telephony management;
* defining and enforcing network borders;
* automatic and adaptive control of networks;
* cross-layer interactions, including IP/Optical or Servers/IP;
* hitless planned maintenance; and
* fault and performance management.

CALL FOR PAPERS
WiMeshNets 2006 (http://wimeshnets.org)
First International Workshop on "Wireless mesh: moving towards applications"
(Co-located with QShine 2006, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) August 10, 2006
Recent advances in wireless mesh networks (WMNs) provide promising
opportunities in communication paradigms. WMNs do not depend on wired
communication infrastructure and their mesh connectivity provides
inherent built-in redundancy. This makes them also good candidates for
providing an alternative communication mechanism in the face of
disasters when normal communication infrastructure is destroyed. WMNs
build upon multi-hop forwarding of data packets from access nodes
towards gateways to the fixed network and thus share many properties of
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. So far almost all existing research effort
related to Mobile Ad Hoc networks has been based mostly on the
assumptions that the nodes are highly mobile and are mainly battery
operated. Thus, most of the protocols and mechanisms try to conserve
energy and cope with frequent topology changes. In WMNs these
assumptions can be relaxed which enables the design of new protocols and
services for WMNs.
Supporting any application over wireless mesh networks is however a
challenging task due to the multi-hop forwarding of packets which also
limits the scalability of WMNs. Nevertheless, WMNs have promising
commercial potential as they are supposed to provide cheap wireless
network coverage and access. Towards this aim the traditional approaches
to routing and to service provisioning should be reconsidered taking
into account the intrinsic characteristics of WMNs and those of new and
emerging applications. This could pave the way to the assessment of this
technology which is expected to conquer new markets in the next few
years by taking advantage of the growth of heterogeneous networks.
Authors are invited to submit original full papers not currently under
review by other conferences on any aspect of “Wireless mesh: moving
towards applications”. Contributions describing theoretical research,
protocol design, experiments and measurements, commercial deployments,
business models, or position/vision statements are all encouraged.
Descriptions of work in progress, test trials, and future work plans are
highly appreciated. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Architectures for Wireless Mesh Networks
• Middleware support in Wireless Mesh Networks
• Routing in Wireless Mesh Networks
• Fairness Issues for Wireless Mesh Networks
• Multicasting and Broadcasting issues in Wireless Mesh Networks
• Security and Intrusion Detection for Wireless Mesh Networks
• Handoff and mobility management in Wireless Mesh Networks

• Scheduling and Queuing mechanisms to provide QoS in Wireless Mesh Networks
• Gaming applications over Wireless Mesh Networks
• Service level agreement and mesh organization

• Transport Layer Protocols over Wireless Mesh Networks
• Deployment and configuration management
• Voice and Video over Wireless Mesh Networks
• Traffic Modeling

Goal and Overview
==================
The Performance Control in WirelessSensor Networks Workshop will be a
half-day, peer-reviewed workshop on Friday, May 19, 2006. The aim of
the workshop is to bring together professionals from academia and
industry to discuss performance issues in wireless sensor networks.
The focus of the workshop will be on work in progress.
Call for Papers
===============
Wireless sensor networks are currently the subject of intense research
and many prototype installations are currently investigated. These
existing sensor network installations have in common that they are not
considered time critical. No immediate action has to be undertaken as
a response to the received data. However, many future application
areas of wireless sensor networks such as plant automation and
control, traffic management or medical applications require this
feature. In such environments, data has to be transported reliable and
in time through the sensor network. In other words, performance
guarantees regarding a variety of network parameters are required. Due
to the lack of appropriate models, components and protocols it is
currently very difficult to construct and operate a wireless sensor
network with a controlled performance. Thus, the commercial success of
wireless sensor networks in many application areas is unsure unless
this particular problem is understood and solved.
Topics of Interest Include:
===========================
This workshop intends to bring together researchers and practitioners,
working on performance issues within wireless sensor networks. Areas
of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Models: Traffic models, channel models, mathematical models to
balance performance parameters in the network.
* MAC protocols: MAC protocols with deterministic behavior, MAC
protocols to balance forwarding performance and energy consumption.
* Routing and topology control: Methods to stabilize network
topology, topology robustness.
* Data transport: Control of data transport delay and reliability,
methods to improve data forwarding performance in sensor networks.
* Operating systems: Performance optimization and control of
sensor network operating systems.
* Middleware and frameworks: Middleware/frameworks providing
performance guarantees for sensor network applications.
* Security: The impact of security features on network performance.
Paper Submissions:
==================
The paper can report on work in progress. The size of the paper should
not exceed 8 pages (Please adhere to the formatting standard for a
manuscript of the Springer-Verlag LNCS). The cover page must contain
an abstract of about 150 words 3-5 keywords, name and affiliation of
author(s) as well as the corresponding author's e-mail and postal
address. Authors of accepted papers are expected to register and
present the paper at the Workshop.

The NCUS-06 submission deadline has been extended to March 24, 2006.
============ Begin of NCUS-06 CFP ============
The 2nd IFIP International Symposium on
Network Centric Ubiquitous Systems (NCUS 2006)
http://www.tlfers.org/
To be held in conjunction with
IFIP International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing (EUC 2006)
Seoul, Korea, 1-4 August 2006
[Call for Papers]
Historically, ubiquitous systems have been highly engineered for a
particular task, with no spontaneous interactions among devices.
Recent advances in wireless communication and sensor and actuator
technologies have given rise to a new genre of ubiquitous systems.
This new genre is characterized as self-organizing, critically
resource constrained, and network centric. The fundamental change is
communication: numerous small devices operating collectively, rather
than as standalone devices, form a dynamic ambient network that
connects each device to more powerful networks and processing
resources.
NCUS'06 is the successor of IFIP International Symposium on Network
Centric Ubiquitous Systems (NCUS'05) held in Nagasaki, Japan and
offers a premier international forum for researchers and practitioners
from both industry and academia, to discuss hot topics and emerging
areas, to share recent progress and latest results, and to promote
cutting-edge research and future cooperation on ubiquitous systems and
ubiquitous networking.
Topics of interest include, but not limited to, the following:
* Software Engineering technologies and Formal Techniques for
modeling, designing, and testing network centric ubiquitous systems
* Hardware Architectures, Communication Protocols, Human-Computer
Interaction and other enabling technologies for network centric
ubiquitous systems
* Theoretical foundations and algorithms for ubiquitous networking
* Context awareness, adaptation and management in network centric
ubiquitous systems
* Peer-to-Peer and overlay networks, systems, and applications in
ubiquitous systems
* Mobile networks, Sensor networks, unmanned air and ground vehicle
networks, and applications
* Web services and Middleware support for ubiquitous networking
* Security and Trust management in ubiquitous networks, systems, and
applications
* Energy management and harvesting for network centric ubiquitous systems
* Simulation, Performance evaluation, Experiments, and trials of
ubiquitous networks and applications
* Comprehensive survey on timely topics
[Submission]
Prospective authors are encouraged to submit a PDF version of original
manuscripts (not being considered for publication elsewhere, not
exceeding 12 single-column, single-spaced pages). Authors should make
sure that the submission can be viewed via Acrobat Reader and printed
correctly via standard letter or A4 size paper. We strongly recommend
authors to format their submissions in LNCS style (instructions and
templates are available here).
Submission site: http://www.tlfers.org/myreview/index.php?authorsInstructions=1
[Proceedings]
Accepted papers will be published as proceedings by Lecture Notes in
Computer Science (LNCS), Springer-Verlag. Instructions about the
preparation of a final proceedings version will be sent to the authors
of accepted papers. Authors of an accepted paper must guarantee that
at least one of the authors will attend the symposium and present
their paper.
[Selected Best Papers]
A number of the best papers presented at the symposium will be
selected for publications in International Journal of Ad Hoc and
Ubiquitous Computing (IJAHUC).

CALL FOR PAPERS
WNS2
Workshop on ns-2: the IP network simulator
Pisa, Italy -- October 10, 2006
http://www.wns2.org/
SCOPE
-----
In recent years, the ns-2 simulator has become one of the de facto
standards (if not the standard) for the simulation of packet-switched
networks, as attested by the number of research papers and IETF documents
based on it, as well as by the wide scope of the networking technologies
it handles. It is widely used in both academia and industry as a means of
designing, testing and evaluating new and existing protocols and
architectures, and it is also a very useful tool for educational purposes.
The Workshop on ns-2 (WNS2) is a one-day event held in conjunction with
VALUETOOLS, the First International Conference on Performance Evaluation
Methodologies and Tools (http://www.valuetools.org/).
The main goals of the WNS2 workshop are: to bring together networking
researchers from both academia and industry, to discuss recent advances,
to identify future directions in network simulation, and to foster
interdisciplinary collaborative research in this area.
The workshop devotes special interest to the future evolution of ns-2,
and its extension in novel research areas and networking technologies and
scenarios.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
------------------
This workshop is mainly focused on the simulator in itself. We are
especially looking for original contributions that go beyond the use of
ns-2 "as is", and try to make it evolve. The following topics are of
particular interest:
- Development of new simulation models and features, especially in,
but
not restricted to, the areas of:
* Mobile networks, 3G and 4G networks, WLANs, WPANs, WiMAX...
* Delay-tolerant networking.
* Congestion-control and transport-layer issues in long-fat
networks.
* Network mobility (NEMO).
* Sensor networks.
* Peer-to-peer systems.
* Grid computing.
- Large-scale network simulation and model-based simulation
approaches.
- Post-processing tools and GUIs for statistical analysis and
visualization
of simulation results.
Other topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Validation of ns-2 behavior with experimentation and real data.
- Comparative studies of ns-2 and other network simulation tools,
both
commercial and freely-available.
- Parallel and distributed versions of ns-2.
- Use of ns-2 in teaching networking concepts and techniques.
