At the same time, several new networking and radio technologies (e.g., dynamic spectrum access, UWB) are emerging to address the performance limitations of existing technologies and make wireless networking more ubiquitous. Realistic evaluation of such diverse set of technologies and their mutual interactions will play a major role in identifying the key performance bottlenecks, thus shape future advances in wireless technology. With this in mind, this workshop intends to bring together researchers working in the broad area of experimental wireless networking. This workshop will serve as a forum to share new ideas/experiences in all experimental aspects of wireless networks and systems, and facilitate discussions of key unresolved challenges in this area. We are seeking original, previously unpublished work addressing experimental wireless networking issues. The workshop program will include regular paper presentations and an interactive session with demos and posters. We welcome demonstrations of novel wireless network testbed capabilities and measurement results. The posters may describe work in progress and offers an excellent opportunity for feedback and discussions on early research. Such an integrated heterogeneous environment enables a user to access a particular network depending upon the application needs and the types of radio access networks (RANs) available (e.g., cellular network, ad hoc, WLAN, WPAN etc). The heterogeneous multi-hop wireless and mobile networks, on the other hand, provide unlimited mobility and greater flexibility but introduce a number of challenges due to dynamic network topology. The design of efficient and scalable protocols for existing multi-hop wireless and mobile networks such as wireless and mobile ad hoc networks continue to pose challenges at all the layers of networking stack. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate a global heterogeneous architecture and services that together provide seamless integration of single-hop networks (e.g., cellular, WLAN, WWAN) and multi-hop mobile ad hoc networks. The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the latest research and future research directions in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless and mobile networks. We are seeking original and previously unpublished research papers addressing theoretical and application issues in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless mobile networks. WSNs are characterized by a need to carefully integrate functionalities traditionally considered to be separate in order to achieve maximum efficiency, especially with respect to energy consumption and management. Hence, a close interaction of research from different backgrounds is required. Additionally, WSNs are evolving from simple data transportation networks to functionally rich distributed systems, also because actuators in the network have to be supported. The goal of this conference is to create a forum where researchers with different experience and background, from hardware to applications, can discuss cross-layer integration, novel solutions for specific problems and envisage the future development of WSN functionalities. FULL PAPERS We seek technical papers describing original, previously unpublished research results. The design of data communication techniques in multi-hop ad hoc networks has challenges at all layers of communication. This workshop concentrates on the network layer problems like data communication (routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and topology control (neighbor discovery, power adjustment, neighbor elimination, etc.). Additionally, sensor networks are currently recognized as one of the priority research areas by NSF. The area of sensor networking is gaining momentum within the research community. This workshop will address ongoing research on this field, including problems such as: physical properties, sensor training, security through intelligent node cooperation, medium access, sensor area coverage with random and deterministic placement, object location, sensor position determination, energy efficient broadcasting and activity scheduling, routing, connectivity, data dissemination and gathering, sensor centric quality of routing, temporal message ordering, path exposure, tree reconfiguration, topology construction, and transport layer. The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols requiring global information. Localized algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple local node behaviour achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks with an arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this plan. Sensor and rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or thousands of nodes. The main objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing area of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques. (Apology for duplicates) Dear Colleague, We have received more than 750 submissions for CHINACOM conference. Currently we are accepting proposals for workshops. OVERVIEW: The "First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China," (CHINACOM2006) will be held in Beijing, China, from 25th to 27th October 2006. CHINACOM 2006 is being positioned as the premier international annual conference for the presentation of original and fundamental advances in the field of Communications, Networks, and Internet Applications. The conference will consist of Technical Symposia, and Workshops. The Technical Symposia will describe significant research in all areas defined below; while the Workshops will focus on development, applications and related business issues. WORKSHOP SUBMISSION: CHINACOM 2006 is currently accepting proposals for one-day workshops. Potential chairs are requested to submit a workshop proposal of at most 5 pages. An ideal proposal should focus on a specific theme, of current interest, and of interest to a large, diverse group of professionals. It should clearly identify the theme, the scope, and specific topic areas of interest which define the scope of the workshop. The proposal should also provide suggestions for potential program chairs and committee members. A biographical sketch of each chair should be included Evaluation of workshop proposals will be based on the relevance of the subject matter, and the expertise and experience of the chair. The workshops will be held in conjunction to the main conference.
