July 16-18, 2006 Silicon Valley, USA
Call for Papers
IPv6, the Next Generation of the Internet Protocol, has seen over the
past three years tremendous activity related to its development,
implementation and deployment. Its importance is unequivocally
recognized by research organizations, businesses and governments
worldwide. To maintain global competitiveness, governments are
mandating, encouraging or actively supporting the adoption of IPv6 to
prepare their respective economies for the future communication
infrastructures. In the United States, government’s plans to migrate to
IPv6 has stimulated significant interest in the technology and
accelerated the adoption process. Business organizations are also
increasingly mindful of the IPv4 address space depletion and see within
IPv6 a way to solve pressing technical problems. At the same time IPv6
technology continues to evolve beyond IPv4 capabilities. Communications
equipment manufacturers and applications developers are actively
integrating IPv6 in their products based on market demands.
IPv6 creates opportunities for new and more scalable IP based services
while representing a fertile and growing area of research and technology
innovation. The efforts of successful research projects, progressive
service providers deploying IPv6 services and enterprises led to a
significant body of knowledge and expertise. It is the goal of this
workshop to facilitate the dissemination and exchange of technology and
deployment related information, to provide a forum where academia and
industry can share ideas and experiences in this field that could
accelerate the adoption of IPv6. The workshop brings together IPv6
research and deployment experts that will share their work. The audience
will hear the latest technological updates and will be provided with
examples of successful IPv6 deployments; it will be offered an
opportunity to learn what to expect from IPv6 and how to prepare for it.
We solicit both academic, research, and industrial contributions. The
IPv6DFI 2006 Proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society and
posted on Xplore IEEE system. A best paper award will be granted by the
IARIA’s award selection committee.

Ad hoc networking technologies have big potentialities for
innovative applications of great impact on our everyday life.
To exploit these potentialities, simulation modeling and
theoretical analyses have to be complemented by real experiences
(e.g., measurements on real prototypes) which provide both a
direct evaluation of ad hoc networks and, at the same time,
precious information to realistically model these systems.
The need for more experimental activities stimulated a new
community of researchers combining theoretical research on
ad hoc networking with experiences/measurements obtained by
implementing ad hoc network prototypes. The aim of REALMAN is to
bring together this community. Following the success of the first
edition, this workshop constitutes a unique forum for presenting
and discussing measurement studies and experiences based on real
ad hoc network test-beds and prototypes.
Original contributions are solicited, related to systems and
protocols *development*, *measurement* and *testing*, in all
areas related to ad hoc networking. We encourage authors willing
to submit a regular paper to also submit a *demo* proposal.

From: Xudong Wang <wxudong(a)ece.gatech.edu>
To: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
[Our apologies if you receive multiple copies]
====================================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
SPECIAl ISSUE ON WIRELESS MESH NETWORKS
Ad Hoc Networks (Elsevier) Journal
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/adhoc/
Guest editors:
Xudong Wang, Kiyon, Inc.
Edward Knightly, Rice University
Marco Conti, National Research Council, Italy
Anthony Ephremides, University of Maryland
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless mesh networks consist of mesh clients and mesh routers. Mesh routers
form a wireless backbone via multi-hop ad-hoc networking but with
minimal-mobility. The mesh backbone provides network access for both wired and
wireless clients including mesh clients, and enables the integration of various
wired and wireless networks. Mesh clients can run as a mobile ad hoc network.
However, in order to achieve much better network performance, it is always
preferable for them to work under the coordination of mesh routers. Due to the
existence of a mesh backbone, wireless mesh networks possess many advantages
over other wireless networks, and are expected to be one of the most promising
wireless networking technologies. Despite recent progresses in wireless mesh
networks, many research issues still remain. This special issue is dedicated to
state-of-the-art research achievements in the area of wireless mesh networking.
The papers must focus on research problems that are specific to wireless mesh
networking, rather than on generic topics of ad-hoc or multi-hop networking.
This special issue will cover all aspects of wireless mesh networking. The
topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Mesh network architecture and performance analysis
Mesh network capacity
Scalability issues and solutions
Medium access control and routing protocols
Protocol design for MIMO, adaptive antenna, reconfigurable radios,
software radios, and cognitive radios
Cross-layer design and optimization
QoS and multimedia traffic over wireless mesh networks
Topology, power, and mobility management
Interworking between heterogeneous networks and adaptive protocols
Network self-organization and self-configuration
Trustworthy networks and security algorithms
Incentives, cooperation, and reputation systems
Testbed, deployment, and application practice
Authors must submit their manuscripts through Elsevier Editorial System at
http://ees.elsevier.com/adhoc/, and must choose article type as Special
Issue-Wireless Mesh Networks. For detailed formatting instructions, please
refer to the guidelines available at the AD HOC Networks journal web site,
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/adhoc/.
The review process will be based on a pre-review phase for screening papers out
of the scope of this special issue, and a single round of technical reviews.
Acceptance will be limited to those papers requiring only minor revisions. The
key dates are listed as follows:
Manuscript Submission Due Date: March 15, 2006
Notification of Acceptance: July 15, 2006
Final Camera-Ready Submission: September 1, 2006
On-line Publication Date: November 1, 2006
Publication Date: November 2007

Scope of Special Issue
Mobile communication has evolved in a rapid pace from the introduction of
Analog Cellular networks in 1980s. Technology has gone through tremendous
changes in terms of security, access techniques, protocol stacks, bandwidth
usage and also convergence into packet switching based on All-IP network
from the conventional circuit switched techniques. Complexity has increased
due to the introduction of different access technologies, available
services, and other aspects as mentioned above during the telecom evolution
for the past 20 years. Pressure is mounting to harmonize various
technologies under a common IP backbone so that seamless handover can be
provided that exploits the benefits of available radio access technologies.
Seamless handover should be achieved not only for Inter-Technology but also
for Inter-Operator handover. Operators and the consumers will be greatly
benefited in terms of cost effectiveness, enhanced features, location
independence and ease of use through the introduction of seamless
heterogeneous handover mechanisms.
Several standardization activities have already started working on technical
solutions for seamless handover. One of the well known activities is that of
next-generation networks (NGN) making use of IMS based solution for service
provisioning and handover between fixed and mobile operators. Within 3GPP
and 3GPP2, activities are on-going to provision handover between different
technologies and recently, in 3GPP, between different domains. This activity
within 3GPP falls under All-IP Network (AIPN) System Architecture Evolution
(SAE)/Radio Access Network (RAN) Long Term Evolution (LTE). IEEE 802 is also
looking into media-independent handover (MIH) in 802.21 while 802.11u is
working on inter-technology handover. Handover enhancement within IEEE
802.11 is taking place within Task Group R (TGr). IETF has produced some
solutions in the seamoby working group while further enhancements are being
done in various other groups including mobopts, mipshop and mobike. Along
with standardization activities, various operators and vendors are also
involved in developing harmonized solution for heterogeneous networks, like,
UMA. At the same time a lot of research and development activities are
taking place by academia, research institutes and industries too.
So far, the work has focused on one specific topic of handover such as
security, QoS, and routing. However, the focus should be on developing an
end-to-end network perspective that covers the whole span of the network
from radio aspects to OSS aspects that includes value added services.
With the above background, this special issue invites people to present
papers on seamless handover in heterogeneous networks in the following (but,
not limited to) areas:
- Handover security
- Solutions for mobility support
- Charging and billing, and AAA infrastructure
- Fraud Management across various networks
- Access Control techniques in heterogeneous networks
- QoS provisioning for inter-technology and intra-/inter-domain handover
- Content provisioning and seamless use of VAS across different networks
- Standardization activities
- Testbed or measurement results
