CALL FOR PAPERS - LAST CALL
CONEXT'05
International conference on future networking technologies
October 24-27, 2005
Toulouse, France
http://www.co-next.net/ info(a)co-next.net
Organized by IST E-NEXT (http://www.ist-e-next.net) in cooperation with
ACM SIGCOMM
-----
SCOPE
-----
CoNEXT aims at becoming a major forum in the area of future networking
technologies. CoNEXT is designed as an open, multi-track conference
aiming to attract longer-term studies and to contribute to the
integration of networking research at the international level. By
bringing together a number of successful workshops run by various
networking communities, it will encourage much needed synergies between
these communities.
CoNEXT is a joint conference series having its roots in QoFIS, NGC and
MIPS. QoFIS and NGC are highly successful international workshops
initiated by two European COST Actions, namely COST263 on Quality of
Future Internet Services and COST264 on Networked Group Communications.
MIPS resulted from the merging of two other major workshops, namely IDMS
(concentrated on interactive and distributed multimedia services) and
PROMS (focusing on protocols for networked multimedia systems); also the
associated ICQT (Internet Charging and QoS Technology) workshop is
integrated into CoNEXT 2005.
Examples of relevant topics are:
* Autonomic Communications
* Context Awareness
* Crosslayer Integration
* Dependable Networks
* Experimental Networking
* Identity Management
* Internet Economics
* Large Test-bed
* Mobile Communication
* Monitoring
* Network Security
* Overlay Networks
* Scalability
* Sensor Networks
* Service Engineering
* Traffic Engineering
* User Perceived QoS
* Wireless

** SCOPE **
Access networks (the 'last-' or 'first-' mile according to provider's or
customer's perspective) represent one of the most important parts in
telecommunication systems, being responsible for the high-quality,
reliable and secure delivery of services to end users. They also
encompass some of the most demanding networking problems, such as the
coexistence of a large variety of technologies based on both wired and
wireless solutions, the need of optimal integration with the core
network in terms of bandwidth and availability mismatch, the provision
of an acceptable quality of service in very different application
scenarios and traffic conditions.
MSAN'05, the First International Conference on Multimedia Services
Access Networks is intended to provide a unique international forum to
explore the new research frontiers in the field of current and next
generation multimedia services access networks. Original unpublished
contributions will be presented that can improve the knowledge and
practice in the integrated design of efficient access technologies and
the relevant provision of advanced multimedia applications. Topics of
interest address: access network technologies (with particular emphasis
on network design methodologies, protocols, analysis of performance and
quality of service); multimedia service delivery (mainly focusing on the
integration/adaptation between multimedia data processing and
transmission techniques and access networks characteristics);

WCAN 05 call for paper - deadline extended to Apr 31st
(apologies if the following is undesired or was already received)
CALL FOR PAPERS: 1st Workshop on Cryptography over Ad hoc Networks
(WCAN 05)
(A Satellite Workshop of Wirelesscom 05, http://sa1.sice.umkc.edu/wc05)
Workshop Dates: June 15-16
Workshop Location: Sheraton Maui Resort, Kaanapali Beach, Maui, Hawaii,
http://www.sheraton-maui.com
Wireless ad hoc networks are today receiving a lot of attention for
militar, commercial and civilian applications, thus raising several
challenging security, privacy and anonimity research questions.
The security research community has mainly focused on securing routing
and is only recently widening its scope of analysis to other security areas.
The cryptography research community has mainly focused on standard networks,
like the Internet; however, cryptographic protocols for the Internet face
serious challenges to be adapted to the ad-hoc, partial-connectivity, mobile,
and infrastructureless nature of ad-hoc networks. The aim of this workshop is
to help bridging this gap, towards a more comprehensive investigation of
security and cryptographic tools, analysis and modeling methodologies over
(mobile) ad hoc networks, by bringing together the cryptography, network
security, and wireless networking communities. We seek submissions containing
original research on all aspects of cryptology in wireless ad hoc networks.
Short surveys of sub-areas are also encouraged. Main topics of interest
include, but are not limited to the following:
Ad Hoc Networks and Resources Modeling
Secure Routing
Security Bootstrapping
Trust Establishment
Distributed Public-Key Infrastructures

CALL FOR PAPERS
VANET 2005
The Second ACM International Workshop on Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
In conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2005
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
September 2, 2005
Cologne, Germany
Web site: http://www.sigmobile.org/workshops/vanet2005/
Important Dates:
Paper Submission Deadline: May 9, 2005
Notification of Acceptance: June 20, 2005
Camera-Ready Deadline: July 13, 2005
The goal of this workshop is to explore the development of wireless
vehicular ad hoc networking (VANET) technologies. Enabled by short- to
medium-range communication systems (vehicle-vehicle or
vehicle-roadside), the VANET vision includes vehicular realtime and
safety applications, sharing the wireless channel with mobile
applications from a large, decentralized array of commercial service
providers. VANET safety applications include collision and other
safety warnings. Non-safety applications include real-time traffic
congestion and routing information, high-speed tolling, mobile
infotainment, and many others.
Following the success of VANET 2004 held last year in Philadelphia,
VANET 2005, the Second ACM International Workshop on Vehicular Ad Hoc
Networks, will be held in Cologne, Germany, September 2, 2005, in
conjunction with MobiCom 2005. Authors are invited to submit papers
presenting new research related to the theory or practice of vehicular
ad hoc networks (VANET). All submissions must describe original
research, not published or currently under review for another
workshop, conference, or journal. Areas of interest include, but are
not limited to:
* Safety and commercial applications
* Protocol design (including low-power, cross-layer, etc.)
* Security and privacy
* Power control
* Multi-channel organization and operation
* Network management
* Modulation and coding
* Channel modeling
The opportunities for VANET are growing rapidly. In December 2003, the
U.S. FCC approved 75 MHz of spectrum for Dedicated Short Range
Communications (DSRC), and the resulting DSRC system is expected to be
the first wide-scale VANET in North America. In Japan, two DSRC
standards have been adopted (the ARIB STD-T75 in 2001, the ARIB
STD-T88 in 2004), and Japanese auto manufactures are working with the
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation in the third
phase of an ambitious Advanced Safety Vehicle project. The German
Ministry of Education and Research has sponsored the Fleetnet and
Network on Wheels projects. Throughout the world, there are many
national/international projects in government, industry, and academia
devoted to VANETs.
Creating high-performance, highly scalable, and secure VANET
technologies presents an extraordinary challenge to the wireless
research community. Yet, certain limitations commonly assumed in ad
hoc networks are mitigated in VANET. For example, VANET may marshal
ample computational and power resources. Mobility patterns are
constrained by road paths and driving speed restrictions. As opposed
to sensor networks, VANET represents high resource/performance
wireless technologies.
Submission Instructions All paper submissions will be handled
electronically. Papers must be in PDF format, no longer than 10 pages
(single- or double-column), in font no smaller than 11 points, and
must fit properly on US Letter-sized paper (8.5 inch × 11 inch) with
reasonable margins. Submitted papers will be judged based on their
quality through a double-blind review process, where the identities of
the authors are withheld from the reviewers. Detailed instructions for
paper submission will be posted on the VANET 2005 web page at
http://www.sigmobile.org/workshops/vanet2005/
Please email questions related to paper submission or the technical
program to vanet2005-pc-chairs(a)monarch.cs.rice.edu . Please email
general questions about VANET 2005 to vanet(a)path.berkeley.edu.

International Workshop on Context Aware Networks Technologies and
Applications (CANET'05)
Held in conjunction with MATA'05 and INTELLCOMM'05, October 17-19, 2005,
Montreal Canada
MATA'05: 2nd International Conference on Mobility Aware Technologies and
Applications (Formerly Mobile Agents for Telecommunication
Applications);_ www.congresbcu.com/mata2005/
_INTELLICOMM'05: The 2005 IFIP International Conference on Intelligence
in Communication Systems; www.congresbcu.com/intellcomm2005/
*SCOPE
*Context-aware networking enables new types of applications and services
in ambient environments. These applications can help users react
positively to unexpected events such as emergency situations, acquire
value-added services, receive messages in the most useful and suitable
manner, or obtain compensation when planned activities are changed or
delayed. Exploiting network-related context information can make mobile
communication networks simpler, more efficient, and more powerful. For
instance, mobility management can benefit from context information about
the current position and direction of a vehicle, which could be provided
by a navigation system connected to a vehicular area network, and
information about wireless access possibilities in the then-known
geographical area to improve its handover operations. Other examples are
delaying the transmission of an email over an expensive connection when
context information predicts the availability of a cheap hot-spot
connection to be reached in the near future. This view of context
management differs from the traditional focus on user preferences
regarding applications and services; it rather takes a network-centric
view: Protocols, not applications, adapt themselves based on context
information.
The aim of the workshop is to provide a unique opportunity for
researchers, software and application developers, and computer network
technologists to discuss new developments on the context aware mobile
and ambient networks technologies and applications.
*Relevant topics*
Papers describing original research, surveys and applications in the

Wireless mesh networking has become an indispensable technique for the next
generation wireless networks. It is critical to large-scale wireless networks
with no pre-existing infrastructure. It enables quick-and-easy extension of a
local area network into a wide area. Prior efforts on wireless networks,
especially multi-hop ad hoc networks, have led to
significant research contributions that range from fundamental results on
theoretical capacity bounds to various flavors of routing and transport
protocols. However, the work is far from enough. The state-of-art is
insufficient for deploying sizable wireless mesh networks. Important aspects
such as network radio range, network capacity, scalability,
manageability, and security remain open problems.
To address capacity and scaling concerns, researchers are experimenting with
systems that use multiple radios, frequency-agile radios, directional and
multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antennas. Further, there are renewed
interests in carrying out research on MAC protocols and cross-layer
design that breaks the traditional networking layering norm. It is
clear that such novel techniques are needed to increase system capacity, extend
network range, and increase scale, if such networks are to become viable.
Similarly, while there exist several security protocols for wireless networks,
especially for IEEE 802.11 WLANs, it is still not clear how one can build a
trustworthy network in a multi-hop ad hoc environment
like wireless mesh networks. Finally, although new research results are
published each year, progress on practical protocol implementation and system
integration has lagged considerably. To ensure wireless mesh networks to be
widely deployed, many research groups are starting to accumulate practical
experience through building testbeds and deploying
trial systems. In parallel to these efforts, several IEEE standard groups are
also actively pursuing wireless mesh networking techniques.
This special issue is devoted to the research and development of practical,
deployable, and low-cost wireless mesh networks. Papers from both industry and
academia will be solicited through an open call-for-papers. Topics of interests
include, but are not limited to,
-- Techniques for capacity and range extension
-- Multi-radio, multi-spectral systems
-- Cognitive and frequency-agile radios
-- Multichannel MACs, MAC protocol for directional antennas and MIMO systems
-- High-performance scalable single-channel MACs
-- Programmable MACs

-- Trustworthy networks, privacy and security models
-- Incentives, cooperation, and reputation systems
-- Mobility, power, and topology management
-- Network management with zero-configuration

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Network Magazine
Special Issue on: Multimedia over Broadband Wireless Networks
http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/net/ntwrk/cfpnetwork2006.htm
**** Submission Deadline --- June 10, 2005 ****
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, the wireless Internet provides access primarily to Web-based
content and services. However, the emergence and adoption of broadband
wireless access standards, such as IEEE 802.16, 802.16a and 802.11a/g,
offers new possibilities for wireless delivery of rich multimedia
content and services, like video mail, video streaming, audio
conferencing, interactive games, conversational navigation services, and
future immersive communications in virtual environments. Advances in
technology are enabling a world of converged wireless and mobile
communications, where users access a variety of media formats using a
single device. Some of these novel networking protocols and technologies
include IEEE 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, UWB, Mobile IP and its variants, IP
paging, wireless IP QoS and SIP. Similarly, newer multimedia standards
such as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC provide significant improvements in
compression, and specifications such as 3GPP Version 6 provide the
ability to adapt the multimedia delivery for wireless networks with
varying transmission characteristics and mobile devices with different
capabilities.
The goal of this special issue is to present a concise reference of
state-of-the-art efforts in delivering multimedia over emerging
packet-based broadband wireless networks. Specifically, the special
issue is intended to present tutorials, survey and original research
articles (in a tutorial manner readable by non-specialists) on emerging
architectures, protocols and services for delivering multimedia over
single-hop or mesh broadband wireless networks. It also focuses on the
protocols needed to integrate the application layer requirements, such
as QoS, security, etc., with the base functionality offered by the
standardized 802.16/11 and other WLAN and WMAN interfaces. Of particular
interest is the inter-play between newer techniques of multimedia
encoding and streaming and the network-layer features to exploit these
techniques.
Following are the topics of interest for which we solicit contributions
for this special issue:
* IP-based multimedia delivery and services over WLANs and WMANs
* QoS for real-time voice and video in broadband wireless networks
* Media multicasting and broadcasting problems and solutions for
wireless links
* Caching and content management in WLANs, WMANs and 3G Networks
* VoIP over wireless networks
* Multimedia over single-hop and mesh-based wireless networks
* Multimedia delivery for broadband vehicular networks
* Multimedia services for ambient intelligent and pervasive environments
* Broadband multimedia prototypes and system experiences
* Broadcast and point-to-point multimedia in indoor & outdoor
environments, e.g. homes, convention centers, sports arenas
