Call for Papers
--------------------
*IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing**
**Special Issue on "Reliable and secure VANETs"**
*
Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) has gained a significant attention
during the last decades both from industrial and academia communities.
Novel VANET-enabled active safety automotive applications are heavily
dependent on reliability and security of underlying inter-vehicle
communication protocols. The error-prone nature of the wireless channel
and its openness to external invasions as well as dynamic VANET
environment, impose the need for intensive studies before applications
like platooning or collision avoidance can become a part of our daily
life. The aim of this special issue is to encompass research advances in
all areas of reliability and security in VANETs. We welcome
contributions relating to novel protocols for reliable and secure
vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication as well
as methods for their performance evaluation. This special issue intends
to provide a venue for interested researchers and practitioners to share
their novel research results.
Topics of interest (include but are not limited to)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
- Quality of service in VANETs and cross-layer optimization
- Safety-critical inter-vehicle communications
- Availability, performability, and survivability
- IEEE 802.11p/1609 protocols
- Performance evaluation methods and tools
- Field monitoring and measurement
- Misbehavior detection and mitigation in VANETs
- Intrusion tolerance and attack models in VANETs
- Privacy-enhancing technologies for vehicular communication systems
- Cryptographic protocols and algorithms, and their security
- System architecture and design for reliable and secure VANETs
- Mobile cloud computing enabled reliability and security for VANETs

Important Dates
-----------------------
- Manuscript submission deadline: June 30th, 2014
- First notification date: August 15th, 2014
- Expected publication date: Nov/Dec 2014
Submission Procedure
-------------------------------
Papers submitted to this special issue for possible publication must be
original and must not be under consideration for publication in any
other journal or conference. TDSC requires meaningful technical novelty
in submissions that extend previously published conference papers.
Extension beyond the conference version(s) is not simply a matter of
length. Thus, expanded motivation, expanded discussion of related work,
variants of previously reported algorithms, incremental additional
experiments/simulations, may provide additional length but will fall
below the line for proceeding with review. Submissions can be made at:
http://www.computer.org/portal/web/tdsc/author
Kind regards,
Alexey Vinel

Third IEEE Workshop on Telecom Standards - From Research to Standards (@Globecom 2014)
by Periklis Chatzimisios 28 Mar '14
by Periklis Chatzimisios 28 Mar '14
28 Mar '14
=================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
3rd IEEE Workshop on Telecommunication Standards: "From Research to
Standards"
Part of IEEE Globecom Dec. 8-12, 2014, Austin, Texas, USA
The workshop's BEST PAPERS will be recommended for publication at the
IEEE Communications Magazine's supplement on Communications Standards.
Recommended papers have to follow the submission guidelines of IEEE
Communications Magazine.
The emergence of nearly-ubiquitous mobile broadband connectivity is
revolutionizing the way people live, work, interact, and socialize.
Telecommunications are at the heart of this social revolution and have
been attracting ever-increasing attention from researchers in both
academia and industry. Although both communities have been making
outstanding contributions to communications, frequently, one of these
communities is unaware of the capacities, expertise, and challenges
faced by the other.
Standards are keys for the success of the communications industry, as
enablers of global systems inter-operability. Moreover, since
standardization is inherently a social body, it is a perfect environment
for promoting technologies that will evolve an increasingly information
oriented society. Building on the success of the previous editions of
the workshop, the goal of this event is to close the gap between
researchers, scientists, and standards experts from both academia and
industry, and to promote standardization as an imperative vehicle for
global consensus and cooperation among the key players, especially on
the development of next-generation mobile communications systems (5G).
An additional goal is to assemble experts from different standardization
bodies, providing opportunities for a closer understanding and
collaboration, catalyzing development of more interoperable standards,
as well as more efficient and effective communication systems.
The workshop will be organized in Austin, Texas, as part of IEEE
Globecom 2014. The workshop will deliver high quality technical as well
as visionary papers, which will be reviewed and selected by an
international technical program committee (TPC) representing both
academia and industry, with a strong standardization background. Topics
of interest include, but are not limited to, enhancements to existing
systems and communication protocols developed by standards bodies such
as ITU-T, IEEE, IETF, 3GPP, TISPAN, ETSI, OMA, Broadband Forum, oneM2M,
among others. Visionary papers on hot topics, such as Advanced 5G
Network Infrastructure, Software Defined Networks and Services, Network
Functions Virtualization (NFV), and other works in progress being
currently discussed by the standardization bodies are also welcome.
All submissions are required to comply with Globecom’s guidelines.
Initial submissions for review are limited to seven (7) pages.
Camera-ready papers should not exceed six (6) pages including figures
without incurring additional page charges (maximum 1 additional page
with over length page charge). Each accepted paper must be presented at
the workshop by one of the co-authors. Only timely submissions through
EDAS will be accepted for review. Accepted papers will appear in IEEE
Xplore. For more details, please visit the official website of the

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
1st OMNeT++ Community Summit 2014
(Successor of the International Workshop on OMNeT++)
http://summit.omnetpp.org
September 2nd, 2014, Hamburg, Germany
==========================================================================
OMNeT++ is a public-source, component-based, modular and open-architecture
simulation environment with strong GUI support and an embeddable
simulation kernel. It is designed to simulate discrete event systems, but
the primary application area is the simulation of communication networks.
After six successful editions of the International Workshop on OMNeT++,
we decided to change the workshop format to allow for less costs, more
interaction between participants, and more coding on-site. The successor
of the International Workshop on OMNeT++ is the OMNeT++ Community Summit.
The OMNeT++ Community Summit provides a forum for discussions on recent
developments and novel ideas in the broad area of network simulation and
modeling, with a focus on the OMNeT++ simulation environment.
The summit brings together developers and researchers to discuss
applications and ideas on the important topics of integrating simulation
models, coupling different simulation tools and providing more accurate
and more efficient modeling approaches.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
---------------------------------------------------
o Design, evaluation, & validation of simulation models
o Comparison with other simulation / emulation tools
o Parallel simulation and simulation control
o Integration of hardware-specific code
o Simulative approaches to performance evaluation
o Cross-layer protocol design methodologies
o Simulation credibility and validation
o Use of discrete event simulation in other domains
o Integration with other simulation tools
o Result interpretation and analysis
o Modeling techniques, including stochastic and hybrid modeling
o Simulation in the loop
o Industrial applications
-----------------------------
Submission and Participation:
-----------------------------
We invite the submission of 2-page abstracts targeting ongoing and
finalized research questions, introducing novel simulation techniques,
or addressing questions of accurate and efficient modeling for simulation.
Further we encourage proposals for tutorials, coding sessions, discussion
panels, etc.
All submissions to the summit should be of interest to the OMNeT++
community. We welcome case-studies that employ OMNeT++ in the evaluation
of new systems as well as contributions addressing general questions of
simulation using OMNeT++. For model-centric submissions we encourage the
author's to publicize source code at the time of submission.
All submissions will be checked by the organizers. Individual
contributions will be invited to be presented as oral presentations,
posters, demos, tutorials or panels, depending on their expected interest
for the community.
Submissions should be prepared in the ACM conference proceedings format.
Detailed instructions, together with format files, are available on the
website: http://summit.omnetpp.org
Submissions that are accepted and presented at the summit will appear in
the proceedings. The proceedings will be published as a technical report
via arXiv and the OMNeT++ website. Copyrights will remain with the
authors. This allows publication of revised versions at other venues.
The OMNeT++ Community Summit is sponsored.
Registration fees will not be applied.

6th IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications
(IEEE WiVeC’2014)
14th-15th September 2014, Vancouver, Canada, colocated with VTC2014-Fall.
http://www.ieeevtc.org/wivec2014/
Sponsored by the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless vehicular communications has been identified as a key
technology for increasing road safety and transport efficiency, and
providing Internet access on the move to ensure wireless ubiquitous
connectivity. The potential of this technology has been acknowledged
with the establishment of ambitious research programs worldwide in
Europe, US and Asia.
The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) currently covers through its
areas of interest (Mobile Radio, Transportation Systems and Automotive
Electronics) all technical aspects needed to make wireless vehicular
communications a reality. As a result, the IEEE VTS society decided to
establish a technical symposium on wireless vehicular communications
co-located with the reputed IEEE VTC conferences.
The IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications
