*Call for Papers:*
*Special issue on **Mobile Ubiquitous** Sensing: from Social Network
Viewpoint*
*Scope:*
The emergence of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has opened up a new
door to information retrieving and built up a bridge between the physical
world and information domain. A major factor that impedes the applicability
of sensor networks is the huge deployment cost and management overhead. The
past few years have witnessed the dramatic proliferation of portable mobile
devices, such as smart phones and tablet computers. Notably, these popular
pocket-sized gadgets are embedded with a set of versatile sensors, which
could provide abundant data about individuals, human society and
environments. This new mobile sensor network formed by mobile devices
provides a new horizon for ubiquitous sensing at a low cost.
Under the new paradigm of mobile ubiquitous sensing, each mobile device
is held by an individual. The underlying social tie among individuals will
play an important role in the mobile sensing process. It is, therefore, of
great interest to study the mobile ubiquitous sensing from the perspective
of social networks. This issue has not received much attention though the
traditional way of ubiquitous sensing has, instead, been extensively
investigated.
Topics of primary interest include, but not limited to:
l System/platform designs to enable mobile sensing
l Incentives mechanism design to guarantee the coverage, i.e., quality of
sensing.
l Social structure modeling and analysis
l Coverage improvement design via social structure
l Individual behavior modeling and analysis
l Architectural, modeling and simulation of mobile ubiquitous sensing
l New applications on ubiquitous sensing
l Energy-efficient and real-time communication protocols design
l Privacy and security preserving protocol design for mobile sensing

Call for Workshop Papers
International Workshop on Cyber-Physical Systems Security (CPS-Sec)
http://www.cps-security.org
28 May 2014, Marina Del Rey, California, USA
In conjunction with the 10th IEEE International Conference on
Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS 2014) - http://www.dcoss.org
** Scope **
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) consist of large-scale interconnected
systems of heterogeneous components interacting with their physical
environments. In the CPS realm, humans and/or smart networked devices
interact with and control the physical world around them through
actuators, sensors, etc. “CPS is envisioned to transform the way people
interact with engineered systems, just as the Internet transformed the
way people interact with information." (US National Science Foundation).
Today, the boundary between cyber and physical systems is blurring.
Indeed, cyber devices that can interact with the physical world are on
the rise. For instance, smart phones and tablets are all equipped with
various sensors (e.g., accelerometers, GPS), which enable the vision of
CPS by allowing human beings to interact with the physical world.
Similarly, a multitude of CPS devices and applications exist in
industrial, transportation, medical, home-security, building automation,
emergency manage!
ment, and many other systems, which serve critical functions in our
lives. Given the popularity of the CPS applications, securing them
against malicious activities is of utmost importance. Otherwise,
malfunctioning and insecure CPS devices and applications can cause
enormous damage to individuals, businesses, and nations.
Therefore, the International Workshop on Cyber-Physical Systems Security
(CPS-Sec) seeks novel submissions describing practical and theoretical
solutions to the cybersecurity challenges facing CPS. Submissions may
represent any application area for CPS. Hence, papers that are
pertinent to the security of embedded systems, Internet of Things, SCADA
Systems, Smart-Grid Systems, Critical Infrastructure Networks,
Transportation Systems, Medical Devices are all welcome. Example topics
of interest are given below, but are not limited to:
- Secure CPS architectures

Network Testing Series
The objective of the Network Testing Series of IEEE Communications
Magazine is to provide a forum across the academia and the industry to
address the design and implementation defects unveiled by network
testing. In the industry, testing has been a mean to evaluate the design
and implementation of a system. But in the academia, a more common
practice is to evaluate a design by mathematical analysis or simulation
without actual implementations. A less common practice is to evaluate a
design by testing a partial implementation. That is, the academia
focuses more deeply on algorithmic design evaluation while the
industry has broader concerns on both algorithmic design issues and
system implementation issues. Often an optimized algorithmic component
could not guarantee the optimal operation of the whole system when other
components throttle the overall performance.
This series thus serves as a forum to bridge the gap, where the design
or implementation defects found by either community could be referred by
another community. The defects could be found in various dimensions of
testing. The type of testing could be functionality, performance,
conformance, interoperability and stability of the systems under
test (SUT) in the lab or in the field. The SUT could be black-box
without source code or binary code, grey-box with binary code or
interface, or white-box with source code. For grey-box or white-box
testing, profiling would help to identify and diagnose system
bottlenecks. For black-box testing, benchmarking devices of the same
class could reflect the state of the art. The SUT could range from
link-layer systems such as Ethernet, WLAN, WiMAX, 3G/4G cellular, and
xDSL, to mid-layer switches and routers, upper-layer systems such as
VoIP, SIP signaling, multimedia, network security, and consumer devices
such as handhelds. In summary, the Network Testing Series solicits
articles falling in, but not limited to, the following topics:
* Testing functionality, performance, conformance, interoperability,
robustness, and stability
* Testing systems and services of 10G Ethernet, Power over Ethernet,
WLAN, WiMAX, 3G/4G cellular, LTE, xDSL, switches, routers, IPv6, VoIP,
SIP signaling, storage area networks, network security, software defined
networking, and consumer handhelds
* Testing various layers of network devices including black-boxes,
white-boxes, and grey-boxes
* Benchmarking and profiling network systems and services
* Network lab testing and field testing
* Designing network test methodologies, test tools, and test beds
* Evaluating false positive and negative of network security
* Analyzing lab-found and customer-found defects
Submission
Prospective authors are strongly encouraged to contact the Series
Editors before writing and submitting an article in order to ensure that
the article will be appropriate for the Series. The submitted articles
should not be published elsewhere or be under review for any other
conference or journal. Articles should be tutorial yet rigorous in
nature. Mathematical equations should not be used (although some simple
equations may be allowed if permission is granted by the Series Editor
and the Editor-in-Chief). Articles should not exceed 4500 words. Figures
and tables should be limited to a combined total of six. Complete
guidelines for prospective authors can be found at:

Call for Papers
Changing usage behavior, increasing demand for bandwidth as well as a
continuous trend towards virtualizing networks and network functions raise
questions on how to share limited capacity resources fairly and more
efficiently while maintaining the best possible Quality of Experience
(QoE) for users. While efficiency is most important when resources are
spare, fairness need to be evaluated based on the different quality
requirements of the various Internet services that we have today. For
example, the Internet, especially the mobile Internet, was mostly
engineered to provide a low loss service, low-latency services are not
well supported today. In data centers, virtualization and high utilization
promise economic benefits. However, effective, yet practical capacity
sharing between tenants and applications is an important requirement. This
has led to the development of enhancements in capacity sharing, especially
congestion control mechanisms some of these mechanisms are
domain-specific, others lend themselves to adoption or generalization for
inter-connected networks.
The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers in the
area of network and transport protocols in the Internet as well as data
centers and their applications to advance the state of research on
capacity sharing. We solicit contributions on the state-of-the-art,
results of ongoing research, open issues, trends and new ideas. We want to
encourage researchers to consider the problem space over all layers.
Topics
Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
Network, transport, and application layer as well as cross-layer
solutions, e.g. in the area of AQM, congestion control, or connection
start-up
Application-layer models and requirements especially for interactive and
real-time media services in fixed and mobile networks
Context-aware resource allocation especially in cellular/fixed access
networks and fixed/mobile convergence
Multi-tenancy capacity sharing and isolation in virtual networks
Approaches to reduce latency with or without network support (e.g ECN)
and latency measurements
QoE/QoS mapping, metrics and measurements
Traffic management, classification and characterization in the Internet
and data centers
Fairness definitions and economic aspects on capacity sharing
Related standardization activities, projects and regulatory constraints
Submission
Submissions must be original, unpublished work, and not under
consideration at another conference or journal. Submitted papers must be

Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSANs) are the confluence point
where the traditional fields of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), robot
networks and control theory meet. In WSAN, nodes collaborate to
accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by the
control and mobility of actors, the networking process and applications
embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may deploy, repair and
relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes and fix network
partition to ensure data communication, change network topology to shape
routing patterns and balance energy consumption, and respond to reported
events in a timely and effective manner. The benefits are limited only
by imagination. As an emerging field, WSANs are in need of new
networking techniques, by which they can fully exploit their
particularities and potentials. WiSARN aims to bring together
state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification and
implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for current
and future applications of WSAN.
