WSNs are, however, facing challenges such as: Quality of service, energy efficiency, network throughput, security issues, etc. This Special Issue aims at exploring how multiple UAVs can be leveraged to solve (some of the) challenges of WSNs, their potential applications, and future directions. Due to their mobility and flexibility, UAVs are already used in WSN, especially in remote areas, and in delay-tolerant applications. This is because they can avoid long-range transmissions and the need to relay data. Furthermore, latency can often be decreased due to higher line-of-sight (LoS) opportunities. However, many of these current solutions use only one UAV. In this regard, levering multiple UAVs at the same time can be beneficial for further enhancing UAV-assisted Wireless Sensor Networks. By utilizing a swarm of UAVs (or at least multiple-UAVs centrally managed), it is possible to distribute the workload more evenly, reducing the energy consumption and extending the lifespan of individual sensors. Multiple UAVs can coordinate to provide more robust coverage, dynamically adjusting their positions to ensure optimal communication paths and minimize data loss. This coordination also enhances fault tolerance, as the network can quickly adapt to the failure or absence of any single UAV. Additionally, multiple UAVs can execute concurrent data collection tasks, significantly increasing network throughput and reducing latency. This is particularly beneficial in time-sensitive applications, where rapid data aggregation and processing are crucial. Furthermore, using multiple UAVs can improve security by enabling more frequent and varied data relay patterns, making it harder for potential attackers to predict and intercept data transmissions. Overall, the deployment of multiple U AVs offers a scalable and resilient solution to many of the challenges faced by WSNs. Authors must make a good-faith effort to anonymize their submissions. Specifically, the authors should not identify themselves in any content within the paper either directly or indirectly (e.g., through references). Where relevant, authors must refer to their previous work in the third person write as if it was written by a third party. However, authors should ensure that any anonymization of their work is not destructive. For instance, omission of references to papers just because they are the authors' previous work should be avoided, as this could prevent reviewers from finding that related paper for the purpose of the review. Submissions violating anonymization rules will not be considered for review. Although submission is double-blind, non-anonymous preprints (on arXiv or other preprint servers) will not lead to the rejection of your paper. Reviewers will be instructed not to actively look for such preprints before completing a first read of your paper, but encountering them will not constitute a conflict of interest. Only PDF files will be accepted for the review process, and all submissions must be made electronically through EDAS. To ensure resilient network operation, new design and management techniques must be constantly devised to respond to the rapid network and service evolution. As a recent and relevant example, deployments of 5G and 6G communication networks require network infrastructures to support new ultra-reliable services with availability of up to 9 nines. Similarly, disaster resiliency in communication networks is now attracting the attention of media, governments, and industry as never before (consider, e.g., the worldwide network traffic deluge to support remote working during the recent COVID19-pandemic!). Furthermore, governments are not only investing to increase the coverage and capacity of their networks, but also the reliability and sovereignty of their networks so that they are more secure and robust against attacks and unstable markets. Fortunately, several new technical directions can be leveraged to improve network resilience, including increased network adaptability enabled by network softwarization (e.g., Software Defined Networking (SDN)); integration/convergence of multiple technologies (optical, wireless, satellite, datacenter networks); enhanced forms of data/service replication that is supported by edge computing; network slicing used to carve highly-reliable logical partitions of network, computing and storage resources. These, and many other technological transformations can enable next-generation high-reliability networks. Given the strong interest in both industry and academia towards reliability of telecom networks and cloud-computing infrastructures, we organize this fifth IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management (TNSM) Special Issue on Resilient Communication Networks for an Hyper-Connected World (the first issue published in September 2021). This Special Issue aims at the timely publication of recent and innovative research results on this important topic. The paper should clearly emphasise the motivation and the technical contributions of the demonstrated artefact. It should highlight the technical contributions with sufficient detail to allow for a fair assessment of their merit, clearly outline the interactive features of the demonstration, and describe their potential to stimulate engaging discussions with the ICDCS audience. Additionally, authors are encouraged to include links to online resources in any digital form, such as a live online version of their demo or alternatively a video or a tutorial showcasing the main features of their demo and illustrating the potential interactive elements of their work. Finally, the submission should explicitly mention any special (non-standard) requirements for the proposed demo, so that the committee can consider them when evaluating the demonstration’s appropriateness to the conference setup. All demonstration papers should follow the IEEE 8.5″ x 11″ two-column format using 10pt fonts and the IEEE Conference template (downloadable by selecting “Conferences” in the IEEE-Template Selector (_https://template-selector.ieee.org/ <https://template-selector.ieee.org/>_). Each submission can have up to six (6) pages (including figures, tables, appendices, and references). Papers exceeding this page limit or with smaller fonts will be desk-rejected without review. The demonstration paper review process is single-blind. All accepted and presented demonstration papers will be included in the IEEE proceedings. For each accepted demonstration paper, at least one author is required to pay a full author registration and attend the conference in-person to present their demonstration on-site.
