UAV is another kind of aerial ITS networks, which are used in military applications for target monitoring and engaging air to ground combats. It is also used in civil applications to explore inaccessible areas and deliver data to and from areas with no network infrastructure. There are many unprecedented challenges to realize ITS network; security and privacy is one of them since, on one hand, vehicles exchange sensitive data (e.g., accidents notification, coordinates of nuclear sites, etc.) and on the other hand they form a specific network with particular characteristics (frequent fragmentation and dynamic topology). This special issue covers studies and solutions that ensure ITS security and privacy. We encourage authors from the industry and academe to submit their original research works that will enhance our understanding and modeling of security, privacy, and attacks. With the explosion of things (expected to be 50 billion devices by 2020), cloud computing is challenged in meeting the data processing and computational demands of IoT applications. An emerging approach is to move computation, data, and control from cloud to the edge of the network commonly referred to as Fog/Mobile Edge (FME). The FME enables IoT applications to meet their latency/delay requirements, improve scalability and energy efficiency of IoT devices, and provide the means for contextual information processing, as well as mitigating the bandwidth burdens of the network. FME provides immense opportunities and capabilities such as geographical distribution, geolocation awareness and device context, support for mobility of devices and access to multitude of network interfaces (from 4G and 5G to Wi-Fi). Such features help satisfy the real-time processing requirements of IoT applications such as flood monitoring, disaster detection and management (e.g., earthquakes), and patient care. However, the massive mobility of IoT edge devices, heterogeneity in communication interfaces, new and emerging communication architectures (e.g., LTE, 5G), emerging network technologies (e.g., SDN, NFV), security and privacy concerns, processing capabilities/limitation of FME servers, and IoT Big Data demand new methods, architectures, and applications in order to realize the full potential of FME for IoT applications. This special issue encourages high quality submissions related to the provision and development of real-time analytics-based IoT applications that exploit the capabilities offered by Fog/Mobile Edge computing. The evolution of Internet-of-things (IoT) paradigm not only comes with challenges to the research and industrial communities on finding efficient solutions for massive connectivity, but also poses a profound opportunity to reshape the current IoT architectures by exploring the inherent nature of the huge number of smart devices with caching, communications, computing and security capabilities. Smart IoT cannot be simply regarded as an upgrade of current IoT by just adding to or replacing sensors/actuators/RFID tags in smart devices. It should be redesigned from the physical layer to the application layer in a bottom-up way. In the context of smart IoT, communication is essential to guarantee end-to-end connectivity. Together with communications technology, other features, such as caching, computing and security should be fully utilized to complement the current study of IoT. The resulting new structure, by utilizing these inherent features, may have a wider application over current infrastructure-based cellular networks and traditional sensor-based networks by adopting all these features. However, new features also create unexpected problems which can not be directly addressed through the traditional approaches designed for low-rate IoT systems. Thus, how to effectively utilize existing capabilities to address the fundamental challenges in smart IoT remains challenging. Despite the evolution of IoT, some fundamental problems are still open and require immediate investigation. This Feature Topic (FT) aims at providing timely and comprehensive overviews of the current state-of-the art in terms of fundamental theoretical innovations and technological advances towards exploiting smart caching, communications, computing and cybersecurity for smart IoT networks. Accepted poster and demo abstracts will be included in the conference proceedings, which will be available in the ACM Digital Library. We adopt a single-blind review process for poster and demo abstracts. Please do not anonymize your submission and include name, affiliation, and contact information of all authors on the first page. A short abstract must be provided on the first page before the main body of the paper. Submission titles must start with "Poster: ..." or "Demo: ...", depending on the type of submission. Poster and demo abstracts must be submitted as a single PDF containing no more than 2 pages, including figures, tables, and references. Demos must include one additional page describing the setup of the demo (hardware used, space needed, special equipment, etc.). The workshop will additionally stimulate dialog about the implications of computational sensing for society. Sensing has primarily been understood as collecting physiological measurements, often with wearable devices. This workshop adopts a broader, human-focused view of sensing as capturing any measurable data linked to individuals and, by extension, to their communities. With this understanding, sensing involves human reactions and interactions observed in spoken, written, or signed language, eye gaze, facial and bodily expressions, social networks, geospatial patterns, and other such human-generated data. Advances in multimodal human data acquisition and fusio! n have th e potential to significantly impact all areas of human life including productivity, health and well-being, training and education, human-computer interaction, accessibility, safety and security, as well as gaming, sports, and entertainment. Starting as a niche application over Wi-Fi, they can now be found in mainstream technologies like Bluetooth LE, LTE Direct and Wireless LANs, and have become the cornerstone of upcoming networking paradigms including mesh and sensor networks, the Internet of Things, cloud networks, vehicular networks, disruption tolerant and opportunistic networks, underwater and intra-body networks. The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. Examples include how to make smart use of these novel technologies when multiple technologies or a mix of permanent services and on-demand networking opportunities are available to a network node, how to provide robust services in highly dynamic environments, how to efficiently employ and operate heavily resource-constrained devices, and how to develop robust and lightweight algorithms for self-organization and adaptation. Finally, there are many application specific challenges. WONS, now in its fourteenth edition, is a high quality forum to address these challenges. WONS aims to provide a global platform for rich interactions between experts in their fields, discussing innovative contributions in a stimulating environment. This announcement solicits original contributions of high-quality research providing novel insights on all aspects of wireless on-demand networks and systems; from protocol and network design, modeling, performance evaluation, energy efficiency, QoS models and mechanisms, practical implementations, service level aspects, application use-cases, to the integration of multiple wireless network technologies. Topics of interest comprise, but are not limited to: - Cognitive radio networks - Cross-layer design - Energy-efficient protocols and power management - Heterogeneous wireless networks - Implementations and testbeds - Integration and co-existence of heterogeneous technologies - Intra-body and biomedical on-demand systems - Green wireless networks - Localization and mobility management - MAC and advanced PHY technologies - Middleware aspects - Mobile peer-to-peer systems - Mobile computing and services - Modeling and optimization - Network management - New architectures for on-demand wireless systems - Novel applications and services - Opportunistic, delay-tolerant, and dissemination based protocols - Performance evaluation through simulations and experiments - Pervasive and ubiquitous computing - Security, privacy, and trust - Social and economic aspects - Underwater on-demand networked systems Manuscript submissions: Authors are invited to submit double-column long papers (up to 8 pages) and short papers (up to 4 pages) as a PDF file in IEEE format with a font size no smaller than 10pt. All paper submissions must be written in English. The mandatory IEEE template in Microsoft Word and LaTeX format can be found at the IEEE templates page. All submitted manuscripts must be at least 3 pages in length. Short papers should present future research directions and ongoing work with visionary, innovative ideas; accepted short papers will populate poster sessions at the conference and will be included in the conference proceedings. Submitted papers must not have been published elsewhere and must not be currently under review by another conference or journal. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper. All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 independent experts in the field following a single blind process. There is a large variety of ITS networks spanning from mobile ground networks, e.g. Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) to aerial ground networks, e.g. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) networks. VANET is a kind of ITS networks where a vehicle is a connected car equipped with various communications technologies such as: Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) and cellular networks (3G/4G). The purpose of VANET is to ensure a wide area coverage for all vehicles in scaling the network, thus achieving the always best connected paradigm where the best connectivity is offered to clients wherever they are and at any time. UAV is another kind of aerial ITS networks, which are used in military applications for target monitoring and engaging air to ground combats. It is also used in civil applications to explore inaccessible areas and deliver data to and from areas with no network infrastructure. There are many unprecedented challenges to realize ITS network; security and privacy is one of them since, on one hand, vehicles exchange sensitive data (e.g., accidents notification, coordinates of nuclear sites, etc.) and on the other hand they form a specific network with particular characteristics (frequent fragmentation and dynamic topology). This special issue covers studies and solutions that ensure ITS security and privacy. We encourage authors from the industry and academe to submit their original research works that will enhance our understanding and modeling of security, privacy, and attacks. The review of full papers will follow the standard double-blind policy. Notes, up to 4 pages in 9-point ACM double-column format for the main body of the paper (i.e., everything excluding references) and unlimited number of pages for appendices and references. Notes are intended to discuss preliminary research results, advocate new research directions, or present industrial projects. While notes are not expected to have extensive evaluations, they will be reviewed based on the novelty of their ideas, potential for impact, and quality of presentation. The review of note will also follow the standard double-blind policy. Poster/Demo descriptions, up to 2 pages in 9-point ACM double-column format showcasing work in progress are encouraged. Accepted posters/demos will be showcased in a separate session at the conference. Topics of interest are the same as research topics listed above. The evolution of traditional wireless sensor networks towards the IoT has introduced numerous opportunities for advanced and promising applications for citizens and industries. Many companies have recently launched "smart products" into the market, in every domain: home, automotive, agriculture, water, air, environment, etc. Most of these products are quite innovative and can be useful for improving and simplifying the lives of citizens, assisting them to their daily activities or contributing also to improving the municipal services and improving the quality of the environment we live. However, most of these products fail to address even simple challenges for security and privacy: they do not protect the data they gather and transmit, they do not use encrypted connections, they use simplistic credentials, etc. The IoT, though, raises significant challenges regarding security, and privacy. Having large numbers of connected devices deployed everywhere around us, e.g. in homes, offices, buses, on the street, monitoring the everyday activities of citizens raises issues regarding user privacy. Privacy issues exist not only when users are actively involved in IoT applications e.g. when sending data from their mobile phones, but also when they are subjects of monitoring by other devices, e.g. when they are being monitored by cameras on the streets. Devices that offer actuation capabilities, e.g. traffic lights, doors, windows, alarms and vehicles allow cyber-attacks to extend effects to the real world. Current centralized IoT solutions raise also security and privacy issues due to the single central point of gathering all data and mechanisms. To address this, lately, there is a shift of interest towards distributed or decentralized security solutions. This workshop builds on the success of the first RED-IoT workshop collocated with the IEEE CAMAD 2014 conference in Athens, Greece, December 2014. It aims to bring together experts from academia and industry that are working in cross-layer issues in the areas of security, and privacy in the IoT. The goal is to present recent results of the research community, the industry and standardisation bodies and exchange ideas for joint research activities in the future. There is an ever-growing population, increasing concentration of people in cities, environmental concerns, and the growing aspirations of people towards vehicle ownership, especially in developing countries. All of these throw up myriad challenges to improve transportation systems - in order to make them more efficient, increase their safety and comfort level, and reduce their negative impacts on the environment. At the same time, a variety of recent developments in the domains of engineering and information and communication technologies (ICT) have opened up possibilities that are poised to disrupt transportation systems in the near future. These include autonomous vehicles, electromobility, intelligent traffic lights and autonomous intersection management, the possibilities of ride sharing and aggregation services (such as those provided by Uber), and new toll pricing policies, parking management systems and public transport management systems using dynamic policies. In addition, the emergence of data science and analytics will also provide new tools using which transportation systems and services will be managed in the future. The confluence of this multitude of technologies and tools from different domains and the impact they will have in future transportation systems will be the theme of this special issue on Transportation Cyber-Physical Systems. The aim of this special issue will be to feature articles on new technologies that will impact future transportation systems. They might span across vehicular technologies - such as autonomous vehicles, vehicle platooning and electric cars, communication technologies to enable vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, security mechanisms, infrastructure-level technologies to support transportation, as well as management systems and policies such as traffic light control, intersection management, dynamic toll pricing and parking management. In addition to terrestrial transportation, traffic control and autonomous management of aerial vehicles and maritime ships are also of interest. Med-Hoc-Net 2018 extends its focus far beyond traditional networking concepts, highlighting new concepts related to the mentioned three main pillars developed for the future generation of network and cloud computing technologies. Med-Hoc-Net 2018 will accommodate contributions on smart mobile scenarios, focusing on highly relevant developments but also preliminary ideas and concepts in the ICT area, aiming at facilitating the development of new technologies and services with a high societal impact. They are limited to at most four (4) pages, but might in many cases be even shorter. Accepted short papers will be included in the proceedings and there will be given (a shorter) time for oral presentation at the workshop. Please note that the full paper and short paper categories target different kinds of contributions. Papers submitted to a category will NOT be moved to a different category: A paper will either be accepted for the category where it has been submitted, or it will be rejected. Full papers will not be “downgraded” to short papers. Therefore, please be sure to carefully assess for yourself prior to submission which is the most suitable submission category for your paper, and to make sure that the presentation in the manuscript is well suited to the aims of this category. No-show policy -------------- Submission to the workshop implies willingness to present. No-shows will be excluded from the proceedings. No-show papers are defined as papers submitted by authors who subsequently did not present the paper in-person (no videos, no remote cast) at the technical meeting. Presentations by proxies are not allowed. No refund of the paid fees can be claimed by the no-show author.
