Scenarios include mobile communication networks, haptic communications for 5G, device-to-device (D2D) networks, and wearable sensor networks. In these systems, human users interact extensively with the system, and the user-perceived quality-of- experience (QoE) is critical. However, various important human factors, e.g., predictable and repeating behavior, have not yet been well understood and fully taken into consideration in current generation mobile networks. Hence, a paradigm shift is required for designing a new human-in-the-loop architecture for mobile networks, by actively learning, predicting, adapting to, and steering user behavior, so as to greatly improve system efficiency and to provide superior users QoE. Specifically, such an architecture includes the following main components. (i) Human behavioral big data: Large-scale data is the foundation of user behavior study and prediction. However, their formats must be carefully designed to reflect user features in multi-dimensions, the crowd needs to be incentivized for data sensing and acquisition, and one may also need to leverage distributed caching, computing and communication capabilities of smart devices for scalable and reliable data communications. (ii) Human behavior learning and analytics: Human behavior exhibits significant amount of predictability, and tends to have repeated patterns, e.g., mobility and usage patterns. Efficient techniques must be developed or tailored towards human behavior modeling and data processing, and must be able to handle the dynamic nature of acquired data and respect heterogeneous constraints in data sampling and processing. (iii) Intelligent control for human-intense mobile networks: Online learning-based control and predictive control techniques must be developed to enable seamless integration of data in system optimization. They should be able to exploit benefits of behavior learning, while handling the selfish nature of human users and randomness in human actions, with the ultimate objective of guaranteeing superior QoE in resource-limited mobile networks. In this special issue, we focus on fundamental problems involving human activities and interactions with future mobile networks. We invite submissions of high-quality original technical papers, which have not been published previously. The topics in this call include but are not limited to the following areas: • Crowdsensing and analytics of human user data • Human-system interaction modeling and analysis for mobile networks • Predictive control in multi-user mobile communication systems • Online behavior-learning and control in mobile networks • Local caching in human-intense mobile systems • Human-intense D2D communications • Resource allocation and optimization for 5G haptic communications Submission Guideline Authors please refer to submission rules specified in the “Information for Authors” section of the JSAC guide- lines (http://www.comsoc.org/jsac/author-information) when preparing their papers (submissions not satisfying the requirements will be rejected immediately without review). In WSRN, nodes collaborate to accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by the control and mobility of actors, the networking process and applications embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may deploy, repair and relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes and fix network partition to ensure data communication, change network topology to shape routing patterns and balance energy consumption, and respond to reported events in a timely and effective manner. The benefits are limited only by imagination. As an emerging field, WSRNs are in need of new networking techniques, by which they can fully exploit their particularities and potentials.WiSARN aims to bring together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for current and future applications of WSRN. Topic of Interest Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in ALL aspects of WSRN and traditional wireless sensor networks, robotic networks, as well as robotics and automation. Submitted papers may not have been previously published in or under consideration for publication in another journal of conference. Manufacturers plan to introduce new cars into the market with V2V and V2I communication systems as soon as 2019 (estimated). Large-scale testbeds are running or planned in different parts of the world, such as the Cooperative ITS Corridor that connects Austria, Germany and Netherlands, and the USDOT plan to install V2V technology in 10,000 city-owned vehicles in New York City. On the other hand, the technology will continue to evolve. In parallel to the deployment phase, multiple discussions are taking place at different levels and in different forums about the next generation of vehicular networks. The 3GPPP has launched a Work Item to study the feasibility of LTE-based V2X services and connected vehicles are being considered a relevant part of the future 5G ecosystem. The automated (and connected) vehicle will soon come into play and may significantly change the roots of vehicular networks. The 2016 IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference (VNC) seeks to bring together researchers, professionals, and practitioners to present and discuss recent developments and challenges in vehicular networking technologies, and their applications. In addition to the standard full and short paper tracks, IEEE VNC 2016 will continue the tradition from previous editions to include a poster and demo session to allow the authors to closely interact with and obtain feedback from the conference audience on new or ongoing research contributions related to vehicular communications and networking. Posters are especially suited for presenting controversial research directions that may generate discussion, or promising ideas not yet fully validated through complete extensive evaluation. IEEE VNC 2016 will also include a demonstration session for researchers to showcase their latest prototypes with media, models, or live demonstrations. The demo session will be co-located with the poster session to ensure maximum visibility and a close interaction with the conference audience. We solicit proposals for demonstrations from industry and academia related to vehicular networking. Submissions should showcase innovative systems and prototypes developed for either commercial use or for research purposes. We especially encourage demos on validating important research issues or showcasing prototypes that demonstrate realistic applications. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): * 5G technologies for connected vehicles * Communications and networking for automated and semi-automated vehicles * Congestion and awareness control in vehicular networks * Novel technologies for V2X (TVWS, LTE-D, VLC, etc.) * Safety and non-safety applications of vehicular networks, including ITS * V2V, V2I and V2X communications and networking protocols * Vehicular communications with VRUs (Vulnerable Road Users) e.g., with bicyclists, pedestrians, etc. * In-vehicle communications (wireless or wired) * Radio propagation and technologies for vehicular networks (propagation models, antennas, etc.) * Protocols for vehicular networking (radio resource management, link layer, routing, mobility management, dissemination, transport etc.) * Security, privacy, liability, and dependability in vehicular networks * Network and QoS management for vehicular networks * Simulation and performance evaluation techniques for vehicular networks * Results from experimental systems, testbeds, and pilot studies * Impact assessments of vehicular networks on safety, transportation efficiency, and the environment * Communications related to electric and hybrid vehicles * Heterogeneous networking approaches (multi-radio, multi-channel, multi-application, multi-technology) * Integration of V2V with on-board systems and networks * Vehicular networking architectures and system design * Applications and services to enhance driver experience, performance, and behavior All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings and will be submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. You can also download the call for papers in PDF format . Manuscript submissions All paper submissions must be written in English and must be formatted in standard IEEE 2-column format. The mandatory IEEE template in Microsoft Word and LaTeX format can be found at the IEEE templates page. Only Adobe PDF files will be accepted for the review process. All submissions must be made electronically through EDAS. We will consider two different categories of papers: * Full papers should describe novel research contributions and are limited in length to eight (8) printed pages (10-point font) including figures, tables, and references. Papers exceeding 8 pages will not be accepted at EDAS, nor reviewed at all. * Short papers should be more visionary in nature and may report on work in progress without finished results. They are meant to present novel perspectives, so as to foster discussion about innovative directions and new points of view. They are limited to at most four (4) pages including figures, tables, and references, but might in many cases be even shorter. Accepted short papers will be included in the proceedings and there will be given (a shorter) time for oral presentation at the conference. Please note that the full paper and short paper categories target different kinds of contributions. Papers submitted to a category will NOT be moved to a different category: a paper will either be accepted for the category where it has been submitted, or it will be rejected. Full papers will not be “downgraded” to short papers. Therefore, please be sure to carefully assess for yourself prior to submission which is the most suitable submission category for your paper, and to make sure that the presentation in the manuscript is well suited to the aims of this category.
