However, they typically require the design and development of innovative technologies, standards, and protocols apart from their architectures and frameworks. IoT has emerged as an extension to Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with low-cost and Internet-enabled solutions for connecting and accessible anything from anywhere. In addition, such smartness is derived due to the artificial intelligence yields in the production of tremendous amounts of data. The data increases as a baby boomer requires efficient tools to analyze and extract suitable inferences for services in order to extend smart living. Cloud, Edge, and Big Data acquired enormous attention in the light of massive data storage and analytics. With the large cohorts of gazette shrewdness and hi-tech population, the infrastructure and service delivery becomes expensive and difficult for cities and governments to manage. Automating systems through the utilization of IoT, Cloud, Edge, Big Data, and M2M tools and technologies demonstrate a great opportunity to reduce operating costs significantly, utilize those savings more effectively, and provide better services to communities for smarter living. This workshop provides a platform for the researchers to publish their innovative ideas, extensive analysis of their comparative studies, critical review of existing research, and position papers in the above areas to meet the smart living requirements. *SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:* We are pleased to invite you to submit original contributions to SLICE 2024. This includes technical, experimental, theoretical, conceptual, or survey. All submissions will be peer-reviewed on the basis of relevance, originality, importance, and clarity. *Submissions Guidelines and Proceedings:* Papers must be 6 pages maximum in IEEE format, 10pt font using the IEEE 8.5" x 11" two-column format, single space, A4 format, including references. Authors must use the Manuscript Templates for IEEE Conference Proceedings. Reviewing will be single-blind, i.e., authors can keep their names on their submitted papers. There is currently no information about how long these devices will be used. If one goes by the lifetime of smartphones or laptops, this could be in the order of 4 to 6 years. Without any action, this situation could produce a large amount of electronic waste. Many factors contribute to this situation, including issues of planned obsolescence of devices, software maintenance, volatile businesses, poor battery capacity, and unnecessary gadgets. This challenge is further compounded by the fact that there is often limited interoperability between devices and little reuse as well as limited recycling of unused IoT devices. This special track aims at creating a forum for discussion on how to address all these issues. We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: - Sustainable powering of IoT devices and energy harvesting; - Sustainable electronics for IoT devices; - Methods and frameworks for reprogramming of IoT devices; - Modular and reconfigurable IoT device architectures; - Interoperability of IoT devices, protocols, and frameworks; - Environmental impact of IoT devices; - Sustainable deployment of IoT applications; - Analysis of the usefulness of IoT devices and applications; - IoT applications for sustainability; - Behavioural and societal aspects in the sustainable use of IoT devices and resources. *** SUBMISSION GUIDELINES *** Papers submitted to this special track must be unpublished original works. Indeed, the term “social good” refers to something which benefits the general public, and at the same time, it is something which reflects and respects their wishes, being ‘from’ the people. The social good can be envisioned as global citizens uniting to unlock the potential of individuals through collaboration to create a positive societal impact. Much interest has been produced in the last years, and new proposals and technologies have been considered. Among them, Blockchain, distributed ledger technologies, and decentralized technologies in general, such as IPFS, have been considered to improve all the aspects of the social good. Blockchain and decentralized technologies have had a big impact on the world. In particular, Blockchain technology has been applied to several fields, such as e-health, IoT, media, etc. The big question around the definition of this track is: “How does the blockchain have a big impact on the social good? And how can decentralization improve the ICT industries?”. The track manages the possible application of decentralized technologies in research fields included in the global scope of the social good. These address sectors such as agriculture, supply chain traceability, energy, health, property rights and digital identities, ranging from a global to a local scope. More recently in the realm of civic participation, civil society initiatives and social economies, blockchains are being tested to implement collaborative models: social finance and local currency schemes, peer-to-peer production and exchanges, decentralized organizations management and decision-making, purpose-driven tokens that incentivize pro-social behaviors, etc. Examples of applications involving considerable experimentation and innovation are complementary and community currency systems. These systems aim to support humanitarian aid initiatives, self-organizing local community development and basic income projects. These involve novel tokenization mechanisms based on smart contracts that necessitate further investigation and discussion. While the revolutionary potential of blockchains has been largely tested (in the financial domain in particular), its possible applications in social domains and to address sustainability challenges have been explored far less. This special track aims to explore and debate the main concepts and implications of blockchain technology, how it can be a driver of innovation and its positive effects on our societies, industry, legal systems and economic/financial systems. Also, the risks and uncertainties that blockchain arrows are welcome to be debated in this section, as regards: conflicts arising from the introduction, in mutable social interactions, of logics based on tokenization, automation, and trustlessness; energy consumption and environmental impacts; technical accessibility and digital skill divides. Additionally, the Horizon Europe framework is providing funding for the establishment of European Partnerships that bring together the European Commission with private and/or public partners to address pressing challenges through collaborative research and innovation projects. One such partnership, the European Partnership for Agriculture of Data, aims to support sustainable agriculture in the EU and improve policy monitoring and implementation by leveraging digital and data technologies for environmental observation. The goal of this special session is to investigate the potential and the challenges of both sensing and data platforms, looking to future developments, and also considering economic and legal aspects to be carefully taken into consideration. This year’s EWSN proposes a first-of-its-kind PhD School & Community Event where we will focus on both the technical and non-technical challenges of the research adventure. The event is intended to offer a forum for PhD students, postdocs, and early-stage faculty members to not only share their experiences and challenges in building up their research career, but also to get active support and help from experienced experts in managing the research adventure. A special focus will be on non-technical challenges encountered by many early-stage researchers, such as dealing with paper/proposal rejections, handling stress induced by high expectations and deadlines, overcoming motivation crises when things don’t go as planned, or how to master cooperation in a team with different cultural/disciplinary backgrounds. Participants will receive a certificate worth 1 ECTS credit, which they may get recognized at their home university towards the education programs they are enrolled in. EWSN 2024 has two submission deadlines, one in the winter and one in the summer.
