Wireless has quickly become the dominate last-hop access to the Internet. The mobility of users, devices and networks has become an integral part of today¡¦s Internet. In the meantime, the network infrastructure is the process of transforming from a hardware dominated landscape to an increasingly virtualized and software-defined, cloud-based system with decreasing dependency on hardware. The increasing ability to collect and process large amount of data pertaining to network, devices, and users are posing new challenges to network design. As these trends continue in the near future, a reexamination is urgently required for the architecture of the mobile-centric Internet. The lack of adoption of Mobile IP and IPv6 mobility extensions and additional challenges posed by mobility have led to renewed interest in a clean-slate design that comprehensively addresses mobility, without existing architectural constraints. This requires addressing issues such as efficient mobility management and optimization, locator-identifier split, multi-homing, security and privacy, transport over wireless access, user incentives to reduce network congestion, efficient multimedia content distribution, new cloud computing infrastructure with information centric networking, collection and management of data, new business models for mobile data, and related operational/deployment concerns. Furthermore, the architecture will need to include novel services to meet the demands of today¡¦s fast evolving mobile applications. MobiArch 2014 welcomes submissions from both researchers and practitioners from academia and industry that explore challenges and advances in architectures, protocols, and technologies in the current Internet or in future clean-slate Internets. The main objective of WBAN is to provide cost-effective, flexible, and secure use of biotelemetry information and communication technologies to support both medical and non-medical applications. This technology enables ambient assisted living by providing more freedom to the elderly, disabled, and chronic illness sufferers. Moreover, it can be rapidly deployed in emergency and disaster situations facilitating faster and more accurate remote diagnosis of victims. WBAN technology unleashes the possibilities and potentials for personalized medicine which promises to revolutionize healthcare that will have a significant societal and economic impact and improve the citizens’ quality of life, particularly in future smart cities. However, WBAN applications present several challenges for the research community including: passive non-intrusive and power utilisation design issues, security and reliability with regards to the integrity of the acquired biotelemetry data and the real-time transmission of the monitored data using QoS aware techniques. Moreover, new emerging applications, which consider critical flows, are gaining more and more popularity in various activity domains. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and by the IEEE, and will be accessible via IEEE Xplore Digital Library. In modern societies, protection of information involves many interdependent technological and policy issues related to information confidentiality, integrity, anonymity, authenticity, utility, etc. Information Hiding techniques are receiving much attention today. Digital audio, video, and images are increasingly furnished with distinguishing but imperceptible marks, which may contain a hidden copyright notice or serial number, or even help to prevent unauthorised copying directly. Digital watermarking and steganography may protect information, conceal secrets, or are used as core primitives in digital rights’ management schemes. Alongside the abovementioned types of digital media steganography, currently the target of increased interest is Network Steganography – a part of Information Hiding focused on modern networks. It is a method of hiding secret data in users' normal data transmissions. Steganographic techniques arise and evolve with the development of network protocols and mechanisms, and are expected to be used in secret communication or information sharing. Presently, it becomes a hot topic due to the proliferation of information networks and multimedia services in networks and social networks. The purpose of establishing applications of Information Hiding may be varied – possible uses can fall into the category of legal actions or illicit activity. Frequently the illegal aspect is accentuated – starting from the criminal communication, through information leakage from protected systems, cyber weapon exchange, up to industrial espionage. Recently discovered malware like Duqu and Alureon point to the alleged utilization of Information Hiding techniques in botnets for covert communication in the C&C channels, which proves that Information Hiding poses important challenges to investigators. On the other side of the spectrum lie legitimate uses, which include circumvention of web censorship and surveillance, computer forensics (tracing and identification) and copyright protection (e.g. watermarking images). This special issue intends to present some of the most relevant ongoing research in the Information Hiding field. A regular paper describes an important research project that has been completed, whereas a concise paper describes a significant contribution in a research project that may still be in progress. Thus, the completed version of any concise paper can be submitted and published in another venue at a later year. Regular papers and concise papers will have different submission and notification deadlines and they will be reviewed by different sets of TPC members. Submission policy for both regular and concise papers: 1. All papers should adhere to the IEEE Computer conference paper format (IEEEtran.cls) and the font size should be no smaller than 10 pt. 2. ICNP uses a double-blind review process. The identity of authors and referees will not be revealed to each other. To ensure double-blind reviewing, author names and affiliations should not appear in the paper; bibliographic references should be made in such a way as to preserve author anonymity; acknowledgement with identifiable names and funding sources should be removed. Note that own work should be cited as a third person. Papers violating this double-blind review policy will be rejected without review. Note that double-blind violations are sometimes not discovered until well into the review process, so authors are strongly advised to heed the above requirements at submission time. 3. Authors need to indicate in their submissions all TPC members with whom they have conflicts of interest. An author and a TPC member have a conflict of interest if one of the following conditions is satisfied: (1) They are currently employed at the same institution, or they have been employed at the same institution within the last 12 months, or they are going to be employment at the same institution within the next 6 months. This major development will lead to major changes in usage and to a transformation of the technological ecosystem in all its complexity. IoT will allow people and objects in the physical world as well as data and virtual environments to interact with each other so as to create smart environments such as smart transport systems, smart cities, smart health, smart energy, etc., as part of a prosperous digital society. IoT is likely to improve the quality of people’s lives, create new markets and new jobs, increase economic growth and be an impetus for competition. However, IoT raises important questions and introduces new challenges for the security of systems and processes and the privacy of individuals. Some IoT applications are tightly linked to sensitive infrastructures and strategic services such as the distribution of water and electricity and the surveillance of assets. Other applications handle sensitive information about people, such as their location and movements, or their health and purchasing preferences. Confidence in and acceptance of IoT will depend on the protection it provides to people’s privacy and the levels of security it guarantees to systems and processes. IoT will enable objects to become active participants: these objects will be able to recognize events and changes in their environment and to sense and react autonomously without human intervention. Introducing objects into the control processes makes IoT security very difficult to address. Indeed, the Internet of Things is a complex system in which people interact with the technological ecosystem based on smart objects through complex processes. The interactions of these four IoT components: persons, intelligent objects, technological ecosystem, and processes highlight a systemic and cognitive dimension to the security of IoT. The interaction of people with the technological ecosystem requires the protection of their privacy. Similarly, their interaction with control processes requires to guaranteeing their safety. Processes must ensure their reliability and realize the objectives for which they are designed. The move towards a greater autonomy for objects will bring the security of technologies and processes and the privacy of individuals into sharper focus. Furthermore, in parallel with the increasing autonomy of objects to perceive and act on the environment, IoT security should move towards a greater autonomy in perceiving threats and reacting to attacks. This special issue aims to bring together state-of-the-art contributions on Internet of Things Security and Privacy: design methods of secure IoT applications and architectures, security attacks detection, prevention and counter measures. More details will be provided on the format of the papers closer to the submission date. The selection of presentations will be based on peer-review by program committee members. This year, in an effort to inform judgment on the selection of presented papers, the PC will organize a rolling early feedback phase. This importance is expected to continue to grow in future decades. More and more business, healthcare or government organizations will become increasingly dependent on the communication between their departments, offices and people. In addition, the dynamics and mobility within these circles is growing significantly, due to changing business relations, social or environmental phenomena. Not only does society depend on these services in terms of availability but also in terms of proper functioning in all circumstances: services having stringent requirements with respect to protection of privacy, security, anonymity (such as e-health) cannot accept, for example, temporary leakage of confidential information by accident whether a result of human error or technical problems. The information and communication network technology itself has also been evolving with high velocity. End-user’s connection speed grows by 50 % per year (Nielsen’s Law); users have more and more different types of mobile devices which interconnect them to the Internet (tablets, smartphones, smart watches, etc.). These themselves provide incentives to generate novel technology paradigms which enable more flexible provisioning, network (function) virtualization, or improved power efficiency. The robustness and fault tolerance of these novel evolutions is as crucial as ever. This special issue aims to collect publications with cutting-edge insights, analysis, designs and/or evaluations in the field of the reliability and availability of communication networks and services. Next generation 5G networks are expected to be deployed by 2020, with design targets focusing on increased peak data rates, network capacity, and smart connectivity. This year WLN will focus on the characteristics of 5G networks, their technical design challenges, and the services they are expected to provide to wireless local networks and the future Internet. - Specific topics include, but are not limited to: - 5G - The quest for spectral efficiency - 5G infrastructure and design challenges - Virtualized and cloud-based radio access infrastructure - Wireless access schemes and techniques - Mobility and network management - Cognitive and reconfigurable radio - Small cell and ultra-dense deployment techniques - New services for the future Internet - The transition to 5G - Backward compatibility issues, and multi-RAT coexistence - Backhauling future heterogeneous and moving networks - 5G and the explosive growth of data traffic - Wireless and Mobile Clouds - Implementation and test bed issues Submission Guidelines ------------------------------- We seek original contributions that have neither been previously published nor currently under review. For example, wireless hotspots are so widely deployed that access to the Internet is almost ubiquitous; people can work and play via Internet access no matter whether they are sitting on a terrace, travelling on a train, or flying in a plane. The explosive growth of applications for the current and emerging user services poses a number of challenges to this critical infrastructure. It also presents opportunities for research and innovation to both the academia and industry, especially for the development of efficiency, scalability and reliability in mobile and wireless networks. These challenges motivate us to design and develop new protocols, architectures and services for future mobile and wireless networks. The goal of this special issue is to publish both state-of-the-art and prospective papers that present advances towards the performance enhancement of mobile and wireless networks. In this context, papers will discuss all aspects that have an impact on the performance as depicted in research activities from professionals, academics and researchers. This special issue will be partially composed of the extended versions of the quality papers presented at the Special Session on Recent Issues in Mobile and Wireless Networks, the 2014 Global Wireless Summit (GWS 2014) at http://gws2014.org/.
