A regular paper describes an important research project that has been completed, whereas a concise paper describes a significant contribution in a research project that may still be in progress. Thus, the completed version of any concise paper can be submitted and published in another venue at a later year. Regular papers and concise papers will have different submission and notification deadlines and they will be reviewed by different sets of TPC members. Submission policy for both regular and concise papers: 1. All papers should adhere to the IEEE Computer conference paper format (IEEEtran.cls) and the font size should be no smaller than 10 pt. 2. ICNP uses a double-blind review process. The identity of authors and referees will not be revealed to each other. To ensure double-blind reviewing, author names and affiliations should not appear in the paper; bibliographic references should be made in such a way as to preserve author anonymity; acknowledgement with identifiable names and funding sources should be removed. Note that own work should be cited as a third person. Papers violating this double-blind review policy will be rejected without review. Note that double-blind violations are sometimes not discovered until well into the review process, so authors are strongly advised to heed the above requirements at submission time. 3. Authors need to indicate in their submissions all TPC members with whom they have conflicts of interest. An author and a TPC member have a conflict of interest if one of the following conditions is satisfied: (1) They are currently employed at the same institution, or they have been employed at the same institution within the last 12 months, or they are going to be employment at the same institution within the next 6 months. (2) The author and the TPC member had an advisor-advisee relationship. (3) The author and the TPC member have collaborated on a project, a publication, or a grant proposal within the past 4 years. (4) The author and the TPC member have family relationship or are close personal friend. Authors should not improperly identify TPC members as conflicts to avoid individuals who might review their papers. 4. At least one author of an accepted paper, whether regular or concise, is expected to register at the full rate of the conference and to present the paper at the conference, in order for the paper to appear in the conference proceedings and the IEEE digital library. Papers not presented by an author at the conference will not appear in the IEEE digital library. Integrity policy for both regular and concise papers: ICNP strictly enforces the following integrity policies. Authors violating these policies will cause their submissions to be rejected without review. Furthermore, ICNP may take action against individuals who have engaged in such violation; example actions include, but are not limited to, contacting the institutions of the authors and publicizing the details of the case. 1. Submitted papers should not be previously published nor under review by another conference or journal. In some cases, the ICNP chairs may share information about submitted papers with other conference chairs and journal editors to ensure the integrity of papers under consideration. 2. The goal of the conference is to foster technical interactions among members of computer and communication networks research at large through a single track program promoting their most promising works. This new installment of the conference is proudly committed to the three values that made the conference successful for nearly ten years: Recognizing farsighted excellence, by selectively choosing papers with substantial novelty and research contribution. Promoting a broad definition of networking research, by welcoming submissions based on implementation and experimentation as well as theoretical analysis. Assuring authors of submitted papers a fair and thorough review process, with sound and detailed feedback guaranteed to each submissions in proportion of its scientific merit and potential. Scope The Program Committee of ACM CoNEXT seeks papers presenting significant and novel research results on emerging computer and communication networks. We especially encour- age submissions that present novel experimentation, creative use of networking technologies and new insights made possible using analysis or computing concepts rarely found among networking researchers. We invite the authors to bear in mind that the main factor of interest for their work will be the implications of their results in networking. These should be clearly substantiated and explained. Submission Authors must submit their papers electronically, following the guidelines available on the ACM SIGCOMM CoNEXT web page. The committee encourages substantiated results with a succinct presentation. All papers will be part of a single track. More details will be provided on the format of the papers closer to the submission date. The selection of presentations will be based on peer-review by program committee members. This year, in an effort to inform judgment on the selection of presented papers, the PC will organize a rolling early feedback phase. During that time, and before review are completed, PC members are able to request authors for clarifications, typically on assumptions made and results obtained. Authors of submitted papers who receive such a request have the non mandatory option to answer that request within a week. We invite researchers to show off their creativity through the submission of videos of their research. The video should present a working system, ideally in use in its intended environment, and be no longer than 5 minutes. Selected videos will be invited for short presentations in the final technical program. The presenter of the video will have a few minutes to introduce the idea before playing the video and to take a few questions afterwards. The video should illustrate technically sound innovative research on the design, implementation, usage, and evaluation of mobile computing and wireless systems, applications, and services. Videos will be selected according to two main criteria: content (Is the material relevant to the MobiSys community? Is the idea novel?) and presentation (Is the video well done? Does it engage the audience through creative direction and editing?) Accepted videos will be included into the MobiSys 2014 Eproceedings and the ACM DL. They'll be also linked from the MobiSys 2014 website. Best Video Award: All videos will be considered for the Best Video Award. The winner will be selected at the conference, considering both the video and the presentation. The winner will receive a plaque and a cash award. Urb-IoT 2014 is a new conference that aims to explore these dynamics within the scope of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the new science of cities. The goal of the conference is to solicit original and inspiring research contributions from technology experts, designers, researchers, urban planners, and architects in academia and industry. Bringing together practitioners and researchers to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices, Urb-IoT 2014 seeks multi-disciplinary contributions in the area of Citizen Awareness and Engagement: Methods and studies for citizen involvement through participatory sensing or crowd-sourcing for urban tasks, as well as behavioural change of the citizen through awareness. Urban Analytics: Understanding the massive digital traces created by IoT in the urban landscape through big data analytics. IoT Applications and Services in Urban Context: Urban technologies and applications that challenge the state of the art and benefit citizens, decision and policy makers, and urban planners. Submissions must clearly articulate how they relate to solve a particular problem in the scope of urban spaces. Contributions describing the role of IoT in understanding urban dynamics as well as real world systems in sensing and interpreting city scale signal are particularly of interest. Submissions due: August 8th, 2014 ************************************************************************ After its inauguration in 2013, the AutomotiveUI'14 Doctoral Colloquium aims at bringing together again PhD students working on topics related to the field of automotive user interfaces and interactive vehicular applications, offering them an opportunity to present and discuss their research to an audience of peers and senior faculty. PhD students will receive feedback from their peers about the appropriateness of their idea/topic/research approach, and will enjoy discussing their research with senior members of the community. The DC is scheduled prior to the main conference program on Wedneyday, September 17th, 2014. The topics of the AutomotiveUI'14 doctoral colloquium are basically the ones of the main conference (full list: http://www.auto-ui.org/14/): 1) Devices & Interfaces for vehicle operation 2) Automated/cooperative driving & Instrumentation 3) Evaluation & Benchmarking (Simulation, FOT, Naturalistic Studies) 4) Driver Performance & Behavior (Emotions, Intention, Distraction,...) *** ELIGIBILITY *** The AutomotiveUI 2014 doctoral colloquium welcomes contributions from doctoral students currently registered in a PhD program. Ideal candidates should have worked on their dissertation for some months; thus, they should have chosen a research topic and possibly have also selected theoretical and methodological approaches. Selection of participants will be based on the quality of the submission and its relevance to the conference topics of interest. *** TRAVEL GRANTS *** We intend to provide travel grants to allow more students to take part in the DC; however, at this time we are still negotiating with potential sponsors so that we cannot guarantee at all to offer travel grants. If you think you are eligible for receiving a travel grant and want to apply in case we have grants, please mention this in your application. We will come back to you and request the required information timely. *** SUBMISSION FORMAT *** Submissions must be single-author, but the name of the supervisor should also be mentioned in the paper. The conversation language of the colloquium is English and all submitted materials must be also in English. Research students wishing to apply for the DC should submit up to 5 pages including figures, references, and a 100 word abstract using the format of the main conference (ACM SIGCHI two column page layout). Templates for LaTeX and MS Word are available for download at the AutoUI website, http://www.auto-ui.org/14/submit.php#doctoralcolloquium. Please stick to the templates to foster consistent submissions. Each submitted paper will be reviewed by the members of the doctoral colloquium program committee. The position statement should: + give a crisp introduction to the field/problem domain, + present key related work (current status of the problem domain and related solutions), + clearly formulate the research question/approach, + point out significance and innovation (expected contributions), + describe the research methodology that is applied or planned, + outline your contribution to the problem domain and highlight the uniqueness of your approach, + pose questions and issues (that you'd like to discuss at the DC) In addition, a one page biographical sketch (CV) should be submitted, including a paragraph stating what you hope to get out of participating in the DC. The workshop will discuss issues in mobile devices and applications, mobile location-based services, ad-hoc and infrastructure-based mobile networks, with particular focus on theoretical and practical aspects of design, usability and performance evaluation of security and privacy. This workshop will solicit research papers, work-in-progress papers, industry and regulatory position reports from academia, industry, and government agencies. The proposed workshop seeks to promote dynamic interdisciplinary discussions and collaboration on the various aspects of security and privacy of mobile devices, applications and mobile networking operations. ================================================= CALL FOR PAPERS 3rd IEEE Workshop on Telecommunication Standards: "From Research to Standards" Part of IEEE Globecom Dec. 8-12, 2014, Austin, Texas, USA The workshop's BEST PAPERS will be recommended for publication at the IEEE Communications Magazine's supplement on Communications Standards. Recommended papers have to follow the submission guidelines of IEEE Communications Magazine. The emergence of nearly-ubiquitous mobile broadband connectivity is revolutionizing the way people live, work, interact, and socialize. Telecommunications are at the heart of this social revolution and have been attracting ever-increasing attention from researchers in both academia and industry. Although both communities have been making outstanding contributions to communications, frequently, one of these communities is unaware of the capacities, expertise, and challenges faced by the other. Standards are keys for the success of the communications industry, as enablers of global systems inter-operability. Moreover, since standardization is inherently a social body, it is a perfect environment for promoting technologies that will evolve an increasingly information oriented society. Building on the success of the previous editions of the workshop, the goal of this event is to close the gap between researchers, scientists, and standards experts from both academia and industry, and to promote standardization as an imperative vehicle for global consensus and cooperation among the key players, especially on the development of next-generation mobile communications systems (5G). An additional goal is to assemble experts from different standardization bodies, providing opportunities for a closer understanding and collaboration, catalyzing development of more interoperable standards, as well as more efficient and effective communication systems. The workshop will be organized in Austin, Texas, as part of IEEE Globecom 2014. The workshop will deliver high quality technical as well as visionary papers, which will be reviewed and selected by an international technical program committee (TPC) representing both academia and industry, with a strong standardization background. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, enhancements to existing systems and communication protocols developed by standards bodies such as ITU-T, IEEE, IETF, 3GPP, TISPAN, ETSI, OMA, Broadband Forum, oneM2M, among others. Visionary papers on hot topics, such as Advanced 5G Network Infrastructure, Software Defined Networks and Services, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and other works in progress being currently discussed by the standardization bodies are also welcome. The current trend of unprecedented migration from rural areas to urban centers is expected to continue in the near future. This increasing urbanization has placed continuous and increasing pressure upon infrastructure, residential and commercial properties, and social communities. Cities of the future can be models of environmental efficiency, because increased density and better management reduce the cost of service delivery, promote innovation, and enable prosperity through economic development. The goSMART workshop will bring together academics, researchers and practitioners from around the world to discuss and exchange ideas on recent developments, current research challenges and future directions in the use of networking, communications, IT systems, applications and service to realize smart communities of the future. It is designed to simulate discrete event systems, but the primary application area is the simulation of communication networks. After six successful editions of the International Workshop on OMNeT++, we decided to change the workshop format to allow for less costs, more interaction between participants, and more coding on-site. The successor of the International Workshop on OMNeT++ is the OMNeT++ Community Summit. The OMNeT++ Community Summit provides a forum for discussions on recent developments and novel ideas in the broad area of network simulation and modeling, with a focus on the OMNeT++ simulation environment. The summit brings together developers and researchers to discuss applications and ideas on the important topics of integrating simulation models, coupling different simulation tools and providing more accurate and more efficient modeling approaches. IEEE MASS 2014 is a three-track conference sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society. All paper submission will be electronic, in PDF format. Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings published by IEEE and will be presented at the conference. The first stage of the IoT evolution consisted in the deployment of RFID tags for facilitating routing, taking inventory and loss prevention of goods. After that we witnessed the first wave of RFID and sensor network integration toward vertical-market applications. Nowadays, new generations of RFID tags, in particular active RFID tags, often include built-in sensing capabilities. Whereas, applications based on sensor networks often require means for unique identification and discovery of objects, which are monitored by the sensor network. The convergence of sensing and identification technologies, together with communication and computation systems, enables us to gain impressive awareness about the state of the real world and will drastically change the way we interact with our environment. Urban planning, smart cities, intelligent shopping, smart meters, home automation, security and surveillance, industrial applications like process industry automation, supply chain, smart product management and agricultural applications are examples of potential applications for real-world systems. Even though the advent of the IPv6/6LoWPAN protocol suite solved several technical issues, many challenges are still open in the research and development communities concerning the choice of communication paradigms, architectures and technology. The main focus of this workshop is on technologies, applications and paradigms of the IoT that are already deployed or are under investigation and that belong to the second stage of the IoT evolution.?The next step in the evolution of the IoT is its characterization as the underlying technological layer needed to shape and substantiate higher layer concepts such as semantic web and personalization. In fact, the IoT is the enabling technology to allow virtual and physical worlds to converge in what has already been defined as Web 3.0. If, currently, the IoT is the most suited companion of blogging, podcasting, tagging and social networking, we can imagine that its evolution will foster the rise of statistical, machine-constructed semantic tags and algorithms through the construction and exploitation of semantic databases empowered by distributed and cloud computing. The integration of the IoT with semantic databases, capable of delivering accurate information about the nature and the state of every physical object will introduce a staggering amount of new applications opportunities as well as potentially lead to an ultimate "Big brother scenario". Therefore, a particular interest will have to be given to appropriate security and privacy control mechanisms. The secondary focus of this workshop is on IoT vision and perspective towards Web 3.0. IoTIP features two tracks: - Current ideas: for technical works currently under investigation; - Future perspectives: for vision papers envisaging possible future technologies, paradigms and applications for IoT. UCNs are spontaneous and grassroots deployments of wireless architectures (e.g., ad-hoc or infrastructure), often involving low-cost deployment. Furthermore, users in such environments tend to roam frequently. In such roaming environments, users carry equipment that plays an active role in terms of topology changes (e.g., an LTE phone which is sharing Internet access to other surrounding devices, may become active or inactive without operator control). Common to user-centric environments is a social behaviour that heavily impacts network operation from an end-to-end perspective, and on the different layers of the OSI stack. UCNs empower the end-user as a new Internet stakeholder and not just as a consumer and producer of content. User-centric networking technologies can be applied to a wide range of scenarios, encompassing: i) sharing subscribed broadband Internet access; ii) providing support for better Internet connectivity; iii) allowing the use of communication services even in the absence of reliable Internet access; iv) assisting networking services based on user involvement for the detection and repair of communication problems. The new role of an empowered end-user is disruptive in several aspects, namely: i) in the end-to-end Internet paradigm, end-user devices will actively participate as a network element in addition to being an endpoint host; ii) network boundaries of trust will need to be extended in a way that should mimic social behavior; and iii) end-user devices should be capable of handling intermittent Internet connectivity as well as fast and transparent roaming between micro-operators. There is also the need to further understand wholesale models incorporating UCNs, as well as to understand the impact of UCNs in the context of standardization. No immediate action has to be undertaken as a response to the received data. Wireless sensors and actuators are increasingly networked and continually narrow the gap between the physical world and cyberspace. Domain-specific sensing deployments in industrial or home automation scenarios are becoming more and more common, particularly with the advent of novel sensing platforms such as smartphones, which allow for interfacing with or extending dedicated sensor networks. Nevertheless, insights gathered from real-world sensor network deployments are still scarce and many practical issues in building sensor network applications persist. A thorough understanding from a practical/systems perspective is still necessary, including the hardware platforms of sensor and actor nodes, their operating systems, the networking of nodes and fresh perspectives from field trials and applications. This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from both academia and industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. It serves as a forum for the sensor network research community to discuss open issues, novel solutions and the future development of wireless sensor networks in general. We encourage contributions describing innovative work in the realm of wireless sensor networks. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Experiences from real-world sensor network deployment and applications - Innovative sensor network applications - Mobile and participatory sensing applications and deployments - Integrating sensor networks and the internet of things - Middleware support for sensor networks - Programming and debugging sensor networks - Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks - Experiences with new sensor hardware - Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization - Experiences with communication protocols - Practical medium access control protocols (MACs) - Topology control and routing protocols in existing sensor network deployments - Fault-tolerance and troubleshooting sensor networks - Antenna design and experiences with signal propagation - Experiences regarding energy management and network lifetime - Configuration and installation support - Management of large-scale sensor networks and sensing campaigns - Interconnection between IP and sensor networks - Interfacing with sensor networks using mobile computing devices - Large-scale open sensor data sets from real deployments Submitted papers will be reviewed by three independent experts in the field. Proceedings of the workshop will be published together with those of IEEE LCN, and will be available in digital format from the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
