The purpose of the fifth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks (REALWSN) is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with a focus on real-world experiments and deployments. Included are, nonetheless, new forms of sensing such as those that leverage smart phones, Internet of Things, RFIDs, and robots. When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network structures; software development for large scale networks poses new types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore, results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community to produce results from experimental research. Authors are invited to submit poster and demo abstracts (4 pages, Springer format, 9 or 10 point font size). Accepted abstracts will be included in the proceedings published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering (LNEE). Accepted abstracts will be indexed by all major digital libraries (e.g., ISI, Scopus, Google Scholar). All topics pertaining to real-world wireless sensor networks and modern forms of sensing are of interest, including but not limited to: * Experiences with real-world deployments * Mining real-world sensor network data * Sensor systems leveraging smart phones (crowd sensing) * Sensors systems involving Internet of Things (IoT), RFIDs, robots * Experimental validation/refutation of previous simulation results obtained by others * Real-world performance of self-organization and self-management * Debugging, testing, validation, and management * Deployment and configuration * Applications in medicine, industry, science, environmental monitoring * Security and trust * Scalability in practice * Development and prototyping platforms * Operating systems, sensor network programming paradigms, and languages * Middleware for heterogeneous networks * Real-time and dependability issues * Hardware support for real-world sensor networks * Robustness at all levels: communication, software, hardware * Energy efficient protocols * Hardware and software methods for energy measurement and profiling Posters: Posters should demonstrate early work in areas of interest similar to those listed in the call for papers. Good posters describe exciting ideas for which some preliminary results are available. Demonstrations: Demonstrations should showcase innovative research and applications related to the calls for papers. The submission should include an appendix describing the intended setup of the proposed demo and its main requirements (e.g., power supply, space, etc.). Currently, the IoT presents a strong focus of research with various initiatives working on the (re)design, application, and use of existing and new Internet technology for the IoT. Several significant challenges should be addressed to fulfil the IoT vision, including security and privacy. The Internet is already under continuous threats and the addition of many additional types of devices and interaction will open new security breaches so as to spark new malicious actions. Security and privacy management for the IoT remains a core challenge. The proposed workshop intends to bring together researchers and practitioners from relevant fields to present and disseminate ongoing research for vision for the security and privacy models, protocols, algorithms, context-awareness for security, and devices that can be implemented in the Internet of Things and to relate these to ubiquitous computing. It aims to facilitate knowledge transfer and synergy, bridge gaps between the IoT and UbiComp research communities and related groups for mutual benefit, to help identify opportunities and challenges for interested researchers, system developers and innovators. It will cover topics at both theoretical and applied aspects in this multi-disciplinary research area. The workshop will be organised in a proactive and encompassing format, i.e., containing a mixture of invited talks, oral presentations and an open panel discussion. Workshop topics include but is not limited to (see also the full call): security and privacy for IoTs, Context awareness for Adaptive Security and Privacy, Identity Management, Privacy Management, Legislative Approaches to Privacy, User surveillance, Lightweight and Low Energy Cryptosystems, Protecting unattended devices, User-centred security, Privacy and Safety Management, Risk Analysis, Security Monitoring, Trust and governance models, Fault-tolerant IoT architectures, Adaptive Security and Privacy Models and their Evaluation. Distributed systems based on networked sensors and actuators with embedded computation capabilities allow for an instrumentation of the physical world at an unprecedented scale and density, thus enabling a new generation of monitoring and control applications. SenSys provides a cross-disciplinary venue for researchers addressing the rich space of networked sensor system design issues to interact, present and exchange research results, and demonstrate their work in a hands-on research exhibition. The competition is for novel and innovative mobile applications utilizing any computing architecture (stand-alone, client/server, client/proxy/server, peer-to-peer/ad-hoc, cloud/mobile, others). It is intended as a platform-neutral Contest. Applications can be developed for, but not limited to, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry OS 10 and HTML5. The competition consists of three phases. First you submit your app idea, and if invited to proceed, you submit your app for evaluation and selection as Finalists. Only Finalists advance to enter the third and last phase of selecting the three top winners. More details about the requirements and rules for the three phases of this competition should be carefully read in thecompetition rules document. Networked games have grown in popularity over the past decade, catalyzed by the spread of mobile and residential Internet connections with high capacities and low latencies that encourage game developers to incorporate networked features into their products. Although networked games have demonstrated commercial, artistic, and technical successes, challenges and opportunities remain as computer technologies continue to grow. Powerful, inexpensive PCs and game consoles provide the potential for immersive, multiplayer game play, but must still overcome the geographic dispersion of gamers to be fun. Cloud computing promises new models for game computation, with the added challenge of delivering interactive game content to players. Cheap, always-connected smartphones and tablets provide a new frontier for game development, but with the connectivity and security challenges that come with mobile, wireless networks. Underneath all this is the challenge of connecting clients and servers over shared and unpredictably congested IP networks. This special issue aims to bring together new research results from a variety of backgrounds that address these core challenges. Topics of interest include networked game-related work in: - scalability, cloud support, and game system architectures; - performance evaluation and optimization; - effective visualization on Internet infrastructures; - efficient message distribution and network protocol design; - latency issues and lag compensation techniques; - operating system enhancements, service platforms, and middleware; - multiplayer usability, quality of experience, and user behavior studies; - mobile games; - security and cheat detection and prevention; and - social networking in multiplayer games. They are evolved to complex computer systems that are highly connected while still having to deal with automotive constraints and requirements such as safety, reliability, dependability, quality, and complex supply chain. Especially the increasing connectivity and the recent integration of smart devices (e.g., smartphones) and cloud services as well as the emerging applications give rise to new security and privacy issues. The incentive to protect the driver, the suppliers and the car manufacturers has been generally recognized. This workshop brings together researchers and practitioners in all security related to modern and next generation automotive systems. CyCAR workshop will be colacted with ACM CCS 2013. This workshop offers an opportunity to trigger the transfer of the accumulated knowledge by the ACM CCS community to the car industry while taking into account typical automotive constraints such as interoperability, reliability, dependability, quality, resource constraints or complex supply chain. Not only this is the first time that CCS is organized in Germany (country well known for his cars), this is also the first academic conference workshop only focusing on security and dependability for cyber vehicles. The last ARO workshop (http://www.cybervehicle.umd.edu/[1]) has demonstrated that there is still a lot of security/privacy and dependability issues that need to be resolved, especially with the emergence of vehicles that are fully connected to theirs surrounding objects. This forum is intended for both doctoral students who are starting their PhD and those who are towards the end of their dissertation to discuss their work. In contrast to previous years, the PhD Forum of ICNP 2013 is designed as a full day event including keynote talks, short oral presentations by PhD students, and group discussions. Based on the quality of presentations, a selected number of students will be invited to give a pitch talk at the main conference. This forum will provide an opportunity to get advice, to train presentation skills, and to network. The topics of interest coincide with ICNP 2013. They include, but are not limited to: All aspects of network protocol research including design, specification, verification, implementation, measurement, testing, and analysis. * Domain-specific solutions including protocols for network security, routing, user privacy, and network management. * Application-layer protocols for peer-to-peer systems, social networks, and emerging systems. * Contributions to ICN architectures, specific algorithms and protocols, as well as results from implementations and experimentations. -------------------- WHY SHOULD I SUBMIT? -------------------- 1. Special opportunity to discuss research plans and results face-to-face in individual groups with professors and senior researchers outside of the own lab. 2. Keynote talks by Eric Osterweil (Verisign Labs) and Emmanuel Baccelli (INRIA). 3. Publication of accepted papers in the IEEE ICNP proceedings and in IEEE eXplore. 4. For new technologies or infrastructure designs to be adopted, they must not be only based on sound engineering performance considerations but also present the right economic incentives. Recent changes in regulations of the telecommunication industry make such economic considerations even more urgent. For instance, new concerns such as network neutrality have a significant impact on the evolution of communication networks.
