------------------------------------------------------------------------ -Our apologies for cross postings- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ C A L L F O R P A P E R S ----------------------------- 3rd IEEE International Workshop on Convergence of Heterogeneous Wireless Systems (CON-WIRE 2013) (http://conwire.it.teithe.gr) June 4-7, 2013, Madrid, Spain organized in association with the 14th IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM 2013) Overview Future Internet envisions the synergy among heterogeneous wireless communications will co-exist providing the end user the "flexibility and choice", to improve his/her quality of life. The integration of heterogeneous networks in multi-access and multi-operator environment is revolutionizing the ICT area, introducing new opportunities, better communication channels and an enhanced quality of provided applications and services. In this environment, a user is able to connect to a number of heterogeneous RATs (Radio Access Technologies), either covering the same, or complementing geographical areas. These networks can be macro-cellular, WLANs, femto-cellular or even ad-hoc. In this environment, seamless mobility is coupled according to user preferences, enabling mobile users to be "Always Best Connected" (ABC) so that Quality of Experience is optimized and maintained. Topics CONWIRE 2013 will collect latest research ideas and issues on the convergence among heterogeneous wireless systems in Future Internet. We solicit papers that cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to: * Wireless Network Architectures * Middleware for wireless converged networks. * Wireless Convergence in Future Internet Initiatives (e.g. FIRE, GENI etc) * IP-based Mobility Management * Efficient Handover Algorithms and RRM in heterogeneous wireless networks * Cross-Layer Schemes * Modeling, performance evaluation, simulation, and optimization techniques * Wireless network testbeds and applications * QoE/QoS in wireless converged networks Contribution format The authors are encouraged to submit full papers describing original, previously unpublished, complete research, not currently under review by another conference or journal, addressing state-of-the-art research and development. Based on short- and medium-range communication like DSRC or Wi-Fi as well as on long-range cellular systems, vehicular networking will enable a wide range of applications, including safety applications (e.g., collision avoidance and safety warnings), traffic applications (e.g. real-time traffic congestion and routing information), information sharing applications (e.g. media and content sharing), and other applications and systems involving communication to and between vehicles. The ACM VANET 2013 workshop intends to cover a widening range of research topics which are related to vehicular networking technologies, applications, services and systems. The great potential of this technology has been acknowledged with the establishment of ambitious research programs on vehicular communication systems worldwide, such the current InteractIVe and eCoMOVE projects within the European eSafety framework, various US programs derived from the Connected Vehicle projects and the Japanese Smartway and Advanced Safety Vehicle programs. Vehicular communication and networking also present a very active field of standardization activities worldwide, like IEEE (802.11p and 1609.x) and SAE DSRC in the US, ISO TC204, ETSI TC ITS and CEN WG278 in Europe and ARIB T-75 in Japan, as well as field trials like the Safety Pilot Model Deployment in the US, simTD in Germany and SCORE@F in France. The Tenth ACM International Workshop on VehiculAr Inter-NETworking, Systems, and Applications (ACM VANET 2013) will cover all vehicular wireless networking aspects using a variety of wireless communication techniques (from short-range DSRC/WiFi to long-range cellular communication). The topics not only cover the design and implementation of vehicular communication systems and applications, but also include the potential implications on transport efficiency and safety, systems issues, services, applications, liability issues, standardization efforts and spectrum assignment. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: - Channel modeling, modulation and coding - Congestion control and scalability issues - Medium access control protocols - Multi-channel organization and operation - Communication protocol design and network management - System architecture and design - Safety and non-safety applications - Vehicle-to-vehicle/roadside/Internet communication - Simulation frameworks - Field operational testing - Security and privacy issues and protection mechanisms - Telematics applications - Communication related to electrical vehicle charging - Networking to reduce energy consumption - Wireless in-car networks - Systems that reduce driver distraction - DSRC systems for vulnerable road users (pedestrians, road workers, bicyclists, etc.) - Automated driving and communication Submission Instructions: All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Papers must be in PDF format, no longer than 10 pages (double-column), use the ACM SIG Proceedings Templates (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates) and fit properly on US Letter-sized paper (8.5 inch x 11 inch) with reasonable margins. Submitted papers will be judged based on their quality through a double-blind review process, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. Authors should omit self-identifying language, e.g. concerning prior work. We also strongly encourage the submission of position papers (with a maximum length of 6 pages) and practice papers (with a maximum length of 10 pages) (following the ACM Proceedings Templates above). Position papers will generally include preliminary results and are expected to describe highly original ideas, discuss new directions, or generate insightful discussion at the workshop. Position papers can be a good way to obtain early feedback before submitting complete work to highly selective venues such as ACM MobiSys and ACM MobiCom. However, to set up such platforms several issues along the communication chain should be resolved. The acquisition of medical information via a set of wireless sensors embedded in the patient himself, the treatment and use of this information either by a local contractor equipment or offset after transfer in 3G and/or WiFi connection to a data server, the access to the collected data, ...etc. are some of the important challenges that we have to consider. Each level represents a fairly complex subsystem with a local hierarchy employed to ensure efficiency, portability, security, and reduced cost. MobileHealth'2013 workshop aims to provide a forum for the interaction of these multiple areas and would be an important chance to discuss and understand what aspects have to be considered to provide effective pervasive wireless healthcare systems. The workshop will include presentations of theoretical and experimental achievements, innovative wireless systems, prototyping efforts, case studies and advances in technology related to wireless healthcare networking and systems. This announcement solicits technical papers describing original, previously unpublished research, not currently under review by another conference or journal. These services, among other requirements, rely on context-awareness (e.g. user behaviors, user intentions, the environmental status/ambience, etc.). Consequent systems can adapt themselves through resource management or reconfiguration to achieve specific goals, such as functions, performance, energy budget and reliability. This area of research is challenging yet instrumental for the incoming digital era. The last few years have witnessed the development of many innovative solutions for ad-hoc and sensor networks that are maturing to the level of commercialization and standardization. Yet, numerous challenges remain for the implementation of practical solutions that operate robustly, securely, and efficiently. The first stage of the IoT evolution consisted in the deployment of RFID tags for facilitating routing, taking inventory and loss prevention of goods. After that we witnessed the first wave of RFID and sensor network integration toward vertical-market applications. Nowadays, new generations of RFID tags, in particular active RFID tags, often include built-in sensing capabilities. Whereas, applications based on sensor networks often require means for unique identification and discovery of objects, which are monitored by the sensor network. The convergence of sensing and identification technologies, together with communication and computation systems, enables us to gain impressive awareness about the state of the real world and will drastically change the way we interact with our environment. Urban planning, smart cities, intelligent shopping, smart meters, home automation, security and surveillance, industrial applications like process industry automation, supply chain, smart product management and agricultural applications are examples of potential applications for real-world systems. Even though the advent of the IPv6/6LoWPAN protocol suite solved several technical issues, many challenges are still open in the research and development communities concerning the choice of communication paradigms, architectures and technology. The main focus of this workshop is on technologies, applications and paradigms of the IoT that are already deployed or are under investigation and that belong to the second stage of the IoT evolution. The next step in the evolution of the IoT is its characterization as the underlying technological layer needed to shape and substantiate higher layer concepts such as semantic web and personalization. In fact, the IoT is the enabling technology to allow virtual and physical worlds to converge in what has already been defined as Web 3.0. If, currently, the IoT is the most suited companion of blogging, podcasting, tagging and social networking, we can imagine that its evolution will foster the rise of statistical, machine-constructed semantic tags and algorithms through the construction and exploitation of semantic databases empowered by distributed and cloud computing. The integration of the IoT with semantic databases, capable of delivering accurate information about the nature and the state of every physical object will introduce a staggering amount of new applications opportunities as well as potentially lead to an ultimate"Big brother scenario". Therefore, a particular interest will have to be given to appropriate security and privacy control mechanisms. At the same time, the evaluation of wireless and mobile networking technologies is challenging because of the significant impact that the physical environment has on performance. For this reason, all papers must carefully describe and justify the evaluation methodology that is used and identify its strengths and weaknesses. The 8th edition will be held from 16-18 September 2013 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The CRITIS 2013 Call for Papers is addressed to all researchers and critical infrastructure stakeholders who wish to present their papers at the conference. More information can be found at: www.critis2013.nl. Modern societies increasingly depend on critical infrastructures. Those themselves increasingly depend on and are entangled with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Disruption or loss of (ICT-based) critical infrastructures may result in serious consequences for the functioning of the society, the economy, the functioning of governments, the ecology and social well-being of people, and in the most unfortunate cases loss of human lives, livestock and other animals. As a consequence, the security, reliability and resilience of these infrastructures are critical for the society. Critical (Information) Infrastructure Protection (C(I)IP) is therefore a major objective for governments, companies, operators of these infrastructures and the worldwide research community. CRITIS 2013 is set to continue a well-established tradition of presenting innovative research and exploring new challenges for the protection of critical information-based infrastructures (CIP/CIIP). CRITIS brings together stakeholders from industry, operators and governments as well as researchers and professionals from academia, applied research organisations and industry interested in all different aspects of C(I)IP. One focus of CRITIS 2013 is on the new challenges of cyber resilience of smart cities and smart mobility, a topic that will be highlighted by thought provoking and visionary keynote speeches and by conference papers. The second day of CRITIS 2013 will be a meeting place between the diverse set of C(I)IP stakeholders with their short, medium and long term needs and the academic and applied research communities. CRITIS2013 intends to foster collaboration, to find common, collaborative approaches towards solutions and to boost R&D to address the identified needs. On the third day, the focus will be on the (academic) advances in C(I)IP R&D. A (virtual) multi-disciplinary community of new talented PhD students and junior researchers in the field of C(I)IP will be build: YOUNG CRITIS. Young CRITIS appeals to the scientific C(I)IP communities at national, European and global level. Given the focus areas above, the programme committee will select papers per topic category (or track) mentioned below. Therefore, authors need to state which topic category they address. Researchers are solicited to contribute to the conference by submitting research papers, work-in-progress reports, R&D project results, surveying works and industrial experiences describing significant advances in C(I)IP. Stakeholders from governments, Critical Infrastructure operators, and industry are encouraged to submit papers which describe their current and future challenges to be engaged by researchers and multidisciplinary research teams. Papers should be in English and no longer than 12 pages, including bibliography and well-marked appendices. As in previous years, it is planned that post-proceedings are published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Pre-proceedings will appear at the time of the conference. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register with the Workshop and present the paper. Paper submission will be done via EasyChair. The submitted paper (in PDF or PostScript format) should follow the respective template offered by Springer. The paper must start with a title, a short abstract, and a list of keywords. However, the submission should be anonymised and all author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and obvious traceable references should be eliminated. Extended and fully revised versions of the best papers accepted for CRITIS 2013, after a further peer-reviewed process, will be published in a special issue of the International Journal of Critical Infrastructures (Inderscience). Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSANs) are the confluence point where the traditional fields of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), robot networks and control theory meet. In WSAN, nodes collaborate to accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by the control and mobility of actors, the networking process and applications embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may deploy, repair and relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes and fix network partition to ensure data communication, change network topology to shape routing patterns and balance energy consumption, and respond to reported events in a timely and effective manner. The benefits are limited only by imagination. As an emerging field, WSANs are in need of new networking techniques, by which they can fully exploit their particularities and potentials. WiSARN aims to bring together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for current and future applications of WSAN. Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in ALL aspects of WSANs, WSNs, robot networks, and robotics and automation. Opportunistic networks are an instance of the delay tolerant paradigm applied to networks made up of users' portable devices (such as smartphones and tablets). As such, they are able to cope with challenged network conditions that are often present in real life, such as high node mobility, variable connectivity, and disconnections, which would impair communications in traditional Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. In this scenario, user mobility becomes one of the main drivers to enable message delivery. In fact, according to the store-carry-and-forward paradigm, user devices store messages and carry them around while they move in the network, exchanging them upon encounter with other nodes, and eventually delivering them to the > ir destination or to interested users. This new communication paradigm enables legacy applications in challenged scenarios, as well as it paves the way to innovative solutions. While opportunistic networks initially received attention to support communication where an infrastructure is not available (for disaster recovery or in rural areas), nowadays a number of applications can be envisaged ranging from content sharing, through mobile social networking, to participatory and urban sensing. All these applications rely on data forwarding amongst devices. As a consequence, two aspects become relevant, that is, the need for mechanisms guaranteeing trusted and secure communications while preserving users' privacy (in the absence of infrastructure and sometimes even end-to-end connectivity), and incentive mechanisms able to boost the participation in the network. > > This Special Issue of Computer Communications seeks contributions pushing the state of the art in Opportunistic Networking. CFP: Smart City and Ubiquitous Computing Applications Workshop (co-located with WoWMoM 2013, Madrid 4-7 June 2013) Call for Papers As the world experiences unprecedented urban growth, decision makers have become very alert calling for urgent solutions to the resulting issues and newly identified problems. Fortunately, the recent advances in information and communication technologies may stimulate new solutions towards the urbanization problems. As a result, research and industrial efforts are beginning to focus on work in that direction and towards Smart Sustainable Cities; the aim is to integrate and validate ICT technologies and services in neighborhoods to make progress towards intelligent cities by exploiting ubiquitous technologies. In addition to technical developments, attention is given to innovative service business models which include security, safety and privacy issues. The need to improve our understanding of cities, however, is pressed not only by the social relevance of urban environments, but also by the availability of new strategies for city-scale interventions that are enabled by emerging technologies. This workshop aims to showcase latest advances in Smart City and Ubiquitous Computing applications which are the result of research efforts that incorporate new technologies from the areas of mobile communications, multimedia services, data storage and handling and ubiquitous services. Opportunistic communication paradigm heavily benefits from the heterogeneous networking and communication infrastructure that currently exist, e.g., mobile networks, P2P networks, with the supporting technologies in data management and system interoperability. The SI aims at presenting state-of-the-art research and future trends in mobile and heterogeneous opportunistic networking and application paradigms, combining the mobile communication, mobility and resource management field, and scientifically presents the various concepts that contribute to enable high performance computing in these environments.
