The objective of ICCPS 2013, the 4th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Cyber-Physical Systems, is to serve as a single-track forum for reporting advances in all aspects of cyber-physical systems, including but not limited to theory, tools, applications, systems, and testbeds. Examples of theoretical advances encompassed by this conference include but are not limited to control, real-time, hybrid systems, and sensor networks. Similarly, examples of applications include transportation, energy, water, medical, and robotic systems, and other challenges for the twenty-first century. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Submissions must report results from original research and not have been submitted to or published in other conferences or journals. Submissions must be a maximum of 10 pages, in 2-column format, and use font sizes of no less than 10 pt. Quality of the paper is the primary consideration, and is not synonymous with length. The length of a submission should be tuned to the nature of the topic addressed. Each submission will be reviewed using a peer-review process by the ICCPS 2013 Program Committee. The review process will be typical of high-quality IEEE and ACM conferences. Papers that are clearly not appropriate whether in quality or scope will receive an early decision. The Communication Software Award honors the best practice-oriented application, tool, framework, or demonstration showing innovative and original research in the areas of networks, communication, or distributed systems. Submissions of novel, original work from both academia and industry are invited, nominations of students, from academic research projects, or SME are especially encouraged. Products commercially available during the NetSys 2013 conference already, are excluded from the awards. Nominations of either single applicants or groups are welcome, the best student application may get an additional award. The submission should include an extended abstract of up to two pages. They should include authorship (with affiliations), the problem domain and application of the communication software nominated, platform requirements, and the envisioned licensing scheme, and they should explicitly state what will be demonstrated at the NetSys 2013 conference and how the audience will be able to interact and experiment with it. The following assessment criteria should additionally be explicitly addressed: - the relevance to its application in practice - innovation and novelty of the new software - enhancements as compared to prior systems - the state of the software and its maturity for application All nominations will undergo a preliminary review process for short listing. Providing such a platform should enhance awareness of new trends and approaches in other areas of ad-hoc networking that might be applicable to the own domain. Combined registrations packages will be offered for WiVEC and VTC events. In the last few years, wireless sensor networking has been a very active research area in both academia and the industry with a wide variety of applications. While the set of challenges in sensor networks are diverse, researches have mainly focused on fundamental networking challenges, which include: routing protocols and energy minimization. However, the performances of the proposed solutions strongly depend on the way sensors were positioned in the area. This is becoming necessary in order to transition to a more sustainable energy generation and consumption and reduce its adverse effects on the environment. While more advances in areas like renewable energies and network control are necessary, advances in communication technologies, data fusion and mining, as well as scheduling and optimization are also critical in order to achieve this vision. It is anticipated that the same communication technologies that have revolutionized our way of life in the past decades, ranging from sensor networks, mobile Internet, cloud computing, smart phones and many others, will have direct applicability to Smart Grid. Many off-the-shelf and commercial communication technologies may be ready for deployment in the Smart Grid today. Examples include the use of wireless communications to collect and exchange information about electric quality, consumption, pricing, etc. However, allowing greater flexibility in sharing information in a secure and reliable fashion still poses a number of challenges. Furthermore, using off-the-shelves technologies may lead to inefficiencies, especially if energy management specific features are not utilized adequately in the data compression and the collection infrastructure. Questions that remain unanswered in the smart grid context, include, coverage, interference, spectrum sharing, architecture, network topology, access control and authentication, data representation, data fusion and many more. This series of IEEE JSAC is focused on identifying the numerous communication challenges posed by the various aspects and functionalities of the Smart Grid and exploring research avenues for addressing them. We solicit submissions of position papers that focus primarily on applications and systems and that propose new directions of research, advocate non- traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate controversy and discussion. We particularly look for position papers containing highly original ideas in the following topic areas, although papers describing other challenges unique to or exacerbated by mobility are also welcome: * Operating system and distributed system support for mobile computing * Coordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of mobile devices * Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility * HCI issues related to mobile computing * Security and privacy of mobile computing * Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or application. ACM HotMobile 2013 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will be judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance, and likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the workshop. Presentation at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on research ideas that are a year or more from submission as a full conference paper to the ACM MobiSys conference or other high-quality conferences. Submitting a full-length paper on the same topic to MobiSys in less than a year is unlikely to involve a sufficient increment of work and maturity of ideas. As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may not be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will be returned to the author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific peer review process, submissions will be handled as confidential material during the review. Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages in PDF format, including all references, figures and tables.
