The proposal should be maximum of 3 pages, including figures if needed, and in PDF format only. Please indicate "MobiCom 2012 Demo Submission" as the subject of the email. All submissions will be acknowledged. The summary should include: The names, affiliations, and email addresses of the authors. Goals of the demo and the basic idea that it supports. Equipment to be used for the demo. Space needed and setup time required. Additional facilities needed including power and Internet/wireless access. Indicate a URL with any extra information, if needed. Indicate whether the demo is eligible for the student demo competition by identifying the lead student(s) and their affiliations. We encourage the submission of demos and exhibits that will be of interest to the community from researchers in academia and industry. Students submitting to the MobiCom 2012 Poster Session can opt to have their posters considered also by the SRC committee. Selected competitors will receive up to $500 USD for their conference travel, depending on need, and will earn a chance to compete in the SRC Grand Finals. The winners will be recognized at the Annual ACM Awards Banquet. Competitors should be prepared to attend the poster session and, if selected for further competition, give a short talk about their research projects. Winners of the MobiCom 2012 SRC will be announced at the conference. The Student Research Competition is open to graduate and undergraduate students whose submissions are accepted by the SRC committee. To be considered, complete a submission to the Poster Session and indicate that you would like to participate in the SRC by adding [SRC] in the subject line. Current ACM student membership and student status as of the submission deadline are required for the lead student. Several switch/router vendors are “opening” their hardware, offering APIs to allow a “software defined” control of the networking operations. The vitality of the SDN approach is witnessed by the release of several SDN tools and development environments, most of which are open sourced. *OpenFlow* The OpenFlow specifications, now standardized by the Open Networking Foundation, can represent a key component in a SDN architecture, but the SDN scope and concept is much wider than the OpenFlow APIs. In particular there is the need of higher level SDN abstractions and higher level SDN APIs, as the ones that should be offered to applications (e.g. SDN “north-bound” interfaces). *European* What makes an SDN workshop “European”? Traditional strengths of European research and development have been in optical transmission and wireless, especially cellular networks. The workshop emphasizes aspects of Software Defined Networks that come up when extending SDN 'beyond Ethernet'. In this regard, “European” does not mean that we restrict to a geographic scope, we welcome contribution and participation from all over the world. *Motivation* One goal of the workshop is to bring together industry and academia on the topics of SDN, in particular the workshop will feature an “industry forum”, i.e. a session with presentations of key industrial players (manufacturers, telecom operators, ...). ACM UBICOMP/CASEMANS 2012 - Call for papers Cloud computing, autonomic computing, pervasive computing, and mobile computing tend to be converging to maximize the combinedbenefits of these paradigms. A large number of applications can takeadvantage of this, including healthcare, traffic control, andsocial network applications. However, these applications are complexby nature and introduce several challenges of their own, for example,reliable sensing, accurate context recognition, scalability, security,dealing with previously unforeseen side-effects of adaptations, and so on. These challenges can be meaningfully addressed whenresearchers of diverse background come together to provide differentviews of the same problems and to help each other understandthe complex relationships between contending ideas. The Casemans 2012 workshop aims to open a platform for researchersof ubiquitous computing, autonomic computing, and similar fieldsto address these issues. This year, we are building on the success of casemans 2011 by introducing full and short paper sessions. Nevertheless, all next-generation standards will consider some of the most significant advances on the wireless communication and networking area in the last decade, developed by a highly active community, in both academia and industry. This special issue requests papers that advance the state-of-the-art of the recent and on-going IEEE 802.11 standards (i.e., IEEE 802.11p, IEEE 802.11s, IEEE 802.11aa, IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11ad, IEEE 802.11ae, IEEE 802.11ah, IEEE 802.11af, IEEE 802.11ai, etc.), as well as present mechanisms and solutions, from MAC or above layers, that could be readily transferred to the not-yet finished standards or their future amendments. Please, note that pure PHY-layer papers are outside the scope of this Special Issue, although cross-layer approaches are welcome. In addition, there is special interest in those papers that provide new theoretical and/or experimental insights on the performance of the new and on-going IEEE 802.11 standards in real application scenarios, as well as propose optimal parameter configurations to make them work as much efficiently as possible. Papers proposing, evaluating and comparing disruptive approaches to the path followed by the IEEE 802.11 standards are also very much appreciated. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Coexistence mechanisms between IEEE 802.11 and other wireless networks in unlicensed bands. Inter-Access point cooperative mechanisms. Service discovery in WLANs. Dynamic channel access mechanisms, including cognitive radio techniques and channel bonding strategies. Link-layer mechanisms to efficiently operate in the new spectrum bands (below 1 GHz, TV White Spaces, 60 GHz band, etc.). Multiple packet transmission and reception techniques. Packet aggregation mechanisms. Energy efficient link-layer protocols for multi-service WLANs with heterogeneous QoS requirements. Cross-layer Network/MAC techniques for multi-hop networking and cooperative relays. Advanced relaying strategies for MIMO multicell systems. Mobility support, vehicular networks and networks of mobile objects. Multimedia home networking, HDTV and video distribution. Integration of home and city Smart Grids (M2M communications) in WLANs. At the same time we increasingly rely on the Internet for all aspects of our lives. The ability to evolve the Internet architecture to meet these challenges depends in part on the ability to test proposed protocols, services and configurations in a realistic setting at an appropriate scale. This requires testbeds that have significant scale, geographic scope, and that have a programmable Internet waist to permit experimentation with new addressing, forwarding, routing, and signalling paradigms. The GENI (Global Environments for Network Innovation) program in the US, and FIRE (Future Internet Research and Experimentation) programme in Europe have recognised and are funding this need. With this special issue of Computer Networks, we solicit papers that that describe the results of experimentation on the architecture, implementation, and deployment of Future Internet (FI) testbeds. While we are especially interested in experimental results, we also seek insightful papers that describe testbed architectures and their deployment issues, challenges, and experience. Main electricity grid operations have started changing at an increased pace, due to the integration of renewable sources of energy (wind, solar, geothermal). Due to the inherent variability in the supply of such sources, together with their distinct power characteristics, it has become imperative for the power grid to support not only two-way electricity flows, but also have demand-response mechanisms to allow users to adapt to real-time price signals. Hence, Smart Grid technologies that couple metering, monitoring, communications and control are of paramount importance for enabling these operations. Further, communication and information technologies are already utilized to meet the challenges for Green Communications. The Smart Grid Communications Workshop will be a combination of original papers, quick hot topic presentations, distinguished invited speakers and a panel discussion with participants from industry, funding agencies and academia. This will allow workshop participants to obtain a global perspective of the scope of this area and of the technical challenges associated with it, in a participative and interactive manner. To this end, researchers have sought novel information theoretic techniques that can secure wireless networks without the need for secret keys. One of the most promising ideas is to exploit the wireless channel physical layer characteristics such as fading or noise, which are traditionally seen as impediments, for improving the reliability of wireless transmission against eavesdropping attacks. Physical layer security has emerged as a key technique for providing trustworthy and reliable future wireless networks and has witnessed a significant growth in the past few years. To this end, this special issue aims to gather cutting-edge contributions from academia and industry that address and show the latest results on securing wireless networks at the physical layer. This special issue has a particular emphasis on advanced signal processing, information theoretic, and communication techniques that can make the vision of secret wireless transmission using the physical layer characteristics of the wireless channel a reality. Suitable topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following areas: - Advanced beamforming and other multi-antenna techniques. - Secure relaying and cooperative transmission techniques. - Dynamic resource allocation for physical layer security in various communication scenarios which include (but are not limited to) securing multiuser channels (multiple access, broadcast, relay, interference) , dynamic spectrum access, and spectrum-sharing based cognitive radio channels. - Secure network coding / Byzantine attacks. - Signal processing techniques for advanced security primitives such as authentication, bit commitment, oblivious transfer, secret sharing, etc. - Secret key generation from fading channels via public discussion/common randomness. - Cross-layer design techniques that combine physical layer security and cryptographic algorithms. - Attacker optimization: jamming and eavesdropping. - Game theory for wireless physical layer security. - Wireless physical layer techniques for enhanced location and signal privacy. - Experimental results on signal processing for enhancing security at the physical layer. Wireless communication for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is a promising technology to improve safety and security for all transport modes, to reduce traffic congestion, to optimize the use of existing infrastructures (road, rail maritime, fluvial) and support information services in vehicles with the general purpose of reducing the impact of transport on the environment. The development of sustainable mobility is a key challenge for the development of urban areas. A new era of vehicular technology that includes vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication is already there in the public transport domain and this should be generalized. This era will be driven by both (pre-competitive) public-sector and private-sector funding. Safety- related applications are not only taken into consideration, but non-safety multimedia content providers are also becoming a new topic of research. Key players in the industry, such as automotive companies, public transport operators, railway industries and government agencies, are investing heavily in the advanced research and development of many ITS technologies and applications. This research effort primarily focuses on the system development and standardization of telematics. During recent ITS developments, transportation telematics techniques have exhibited much progress, e.g., interaction between vehicles and the infrastructure for delivering services such as road-side assistance, automatic crash notification, concierge assistance and vehicle condition reports. These progresses are also really important in the public transport domain (buses, metro, trains, tramways) for which V2V and V2I for safety and non safety applications are a key component for the exploitation but also for reducing energy consumption. A number of IEEE 802.11p-like equipment prototypes have been built, and several technical reports based on field trials have demonstrated the lack of cutting-edge techniques to improve system performance. Furthermore, all these applications require accurate and reliable positioning using GNSS solutions alone or enhanced with map-matching and sensors fusion. Technology and applications for ITS and telematics design are rapidly emerging, and there is a critical need to bring together professional researchers, intelligent engineers, academia, industry, standard committees, the private sector and the public sector to exchange new ideas. This conference aims to spur research progress by serving as a forum in which both academia and industry can share experiences and report original work regarding all aspects of vehicular communication, e.g., Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs), cooperative systems, information dissemination, road and rail safety, information and emergency services, etc. Our primary goal is to promote meaningful research in the cross-layered design of architectures, algorithms and applications for vehicular communication environments in all transport modes.
