Das Ziel ist die Prämierung innovativer Software aus zwei Kategorien: 1. Die beste Software aus einer studentischen Arbeit (bis Diplom/Master-Arbeit); 2. Die beste Software aus einem KMU, einem Forschungsprojekt an einer Hochschule oder einem Forschungsinstitut. In beiden Kategorien kann es sich um Einzel- oder Gruppenarbeiten handeln. Extended deadline for paper submissions: 09/11/2008 CALL FOR PAPERS: First Workshop on Global Sensor Networks (GSN 09) Collocated with KiVS 09 in Kassel, Germany http://ipvs.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/vs/gsn09 March 6th, 2009 WORKSHOP SCOPE Global sensor networks (GSN) are an emergent research area aiming to offer applications easy and efficient access to sensor data at the scale of billions of sensing devices. While a single sensor network typically provides access to information of a limited geographical area and selected types of sensor data, a GSN provides an application with uniform and transparent access to a multitude of individual sensor networks that may be geographically dispersed, aggregating and correlating different types of data as appropriate for the application. The challenges imposed by global sensor networks are relevant to many fields in computer communications and distributed systems such as sensor networks, complex event and stream processing, pervasive computing, and P2P overlays. This workshop intends to bring together researchers and practitioners working in relevant fields in order to share ideas, challenges and visions on Global Sensor Networks as well as to foster new cooperation. WORKSHOP TOPICS GSN’09 is looking for contributions related but not limited to the following list of topics in the domain of Global Sensor Networks: - Sensor network protocols - Complex event processing - Distributed stream processing - P2P overlays - Middleware - Security - Query processing and optimization - Quality of service - Applications SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Papers should be submitted in PDF format via the workshop page. Call for Papers 21st International Teletraffic Congress (ITC 21) "Traffic and Performance Issues in Networks of the Future" 15-17 September 2009 - Paris, France http://www.i-teletraffic.org/itc21 TOPIC ITC brings together researchers interested in understanding and improving the way traffic is handled in communication networks. Under the impulsion of proliferating broadband applications and the continuous progress of technological advances, we currently witness a rapid evolution of these networks and the emergence of new usage models. They call for a continuous reappraisal of traffic management procedures and mechanisms. In parallel with the requirement to improve network efficiency and performance by incremental steps, there is currently considerable activity worldwide on the design of new architecture principles and concepts for future networks. How will technological innovations and content-centric networking impact our ability to control traffic flow? What architectural elements and business models are needed to finally meet user expectations for quality and security of their communications in a cost-effective way? Such traffic and performance issues related to the networks of the future are the focus of ITC 21, the next ITC plenary congress that will take place in Paris in September 2009. ITC 21 solicits submission of papers with original contributions relating to traffic and performance issues in computer networks and communication systems. The resulting global-level behaviors usually show a number of properties essential for success in natural environments such as: adaptivity to environmental variations, robustness to internal changes and failures, and effectiveness and scalability of performance. Because of all these architectural and performance properties, the observation and reverse-engineering of successful processes in organic, inorganic, and animal systems in nature, has drawn in recent years the attention of many researchers and engineers working in the fields of parallel and distributed systems, and, more in particular, in telecommunications networks. In these domains, nature has provided basic inspiration for the definition of a number of novel algorithms and computational frameworks able to deal effectively with the challenges of current networked systems, which show a growing structural and computational complexity and are made of a large number of highly dynamic and heterogeneous components. The aim of the workshop is to provide a forum to present cutting edge research on nature-inspired approaches to problems arising in the design, control, protection, and management of network systems, and to outline new trends in parallel nature-inspired computation for the solution of complex problems. EvoCOMNET is part of EVOSTAR (EVO*), Europe's premier co-located events in the field of evolutionary and nature-inspired computing. EVO* includes the EuroGP, EvoCOP and EvoBIO conferences and a number of workshops collectively entitled EvoWorkshops. This workshop aims to present and discuss the recent advances and experimental evaluation in the development of vehicular networks and ITS application, and to disseminate the most advanced ideas and solutions in the field. Submitted papers should have practical evaluation and/or deployment experiences as their main subject or they should use experiments to validate their modeling/analysis results. Han-Chieh Chao *Mobile Networks and Applications (MONET) * *Special Issue on Advances and Applications in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks* ** Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) using all kinds of wireless technologies has recently received considerable attention. The goal of this special issue is to explore the development of wireless vehicular ad hoc network technologies about communication, networking, and applications. A good communication protocol design can achieve highly reliable, highly scalable, and high performance. In aspect of networking, there are many challenges that how to offer quality of service, build high performance routing, provide mobility management, and create secure vehicular ad hoc networks. VANET safety applications include safety warnings and collision avoidance. This is imperious to improve the non-safety applications and reduce the occurrence of collision. VANETs present a highly active field of research, development, standardization and field trials. Throughout the world, there are many national/international projects in government, industry, and academia devoted to VANETs, for example consortia like VSC (US), C2CCC (Europe) and InternetITS (Japan), standardization efforts like IEEE 802.11p (WAVE) and field trials like the large-scale Vehicle Infrastructure Integration Program (VII) in the US. The special issue solicits high-quality theoretical as well as practical works on a broad range of issues important to the communication, networking, and applications for vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). By taking advantage of device mobility, information can be stored and forwarded over a wireless link when connection 'opportunities' arise (e.g. an appropriate network contact is met). With numerous emerging applications, Opportunistic Networks allow a huge number of devices to communicate end-to-end without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure and are very suitable to support pervasive networking scenarios. IQ and QoS provisioning for pervasive computing is challenging and difficult due to the resource-constrained, dynamic and distributed nature of the system, the weakness under security attacking, and the lack of a holistic design approach which takes into account the different types of resources and their inter-dependencies. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum to exchange ideas, present results, share experience, and enhance collaborations among researchers, professionals, and application developers in various aspects of IQ and QoS for pervasive computing. Such networks fall into the fields of mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) and delay-tolerant networking (DTN).Opportunistic Networks enable user communication in an environment where disconnection and reconnection are common and link performance is extremely dynamic. They are very suitable to support the situation where network infrastructure has limited coverage and users have "islands of connectivity". By taking advantage of device mobility, information can be stored and forwarded over a wireless link when connection 'opportunities' arise (e.g. an appropriate network contact is met). In this view, traditional Internet connectivity can be considered as a special case of connection opportunity. With numerous emerging applications, Opportunistic Networks allow a huge number of devices to communicate end-to-end without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure and are very suitable to support pervasive networking scenarios. Topics of Interest ----------------- Original papers addressing applications and architecture, systems and protocols design, development and analysis, in all areas related to Opportunistic Networking are solicited. Papers that bring out interesting and novel ideas at an early stage are favored over highly-polish journal-style results. With several favorable characteristics, such as dynamic self-organization, self-configuration, self-healing, easy maintenance, high scalability and reliable services, wireless mesh networks have been advocated as a cost-effective approach to support high-speed last mile connectivity and ubiquitous broadband access in the context of home networking, enterprise networking, or community networking. Despite recent advances, and the technical accumulations from more than a decade's research effort in mobile ad hoc networks, many research issues remain in all protocol layers of wireless mesh networks. For example, the introducing of mixed (infrastructure and ad hoc) architecture, multi-radio, multi-channel, and multi-antenna, have brought new challenges in the design of physical, MAC, and routing protocols. New application scenarios, such as all-wireless office, are urging researchers to address enhanced QoS support and various security issues in the design of different protocol layers for wireless mesh networks. This workshop aims to bring together the technologies and researchers who share interest in the area of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. The main purpose is to promote discussions of research and relevant activities in the design of architectures, protocols, algorithms, services, and applications for wireless networks. It also aims at increasing the synergy between academic and industry professionals working in this area. We plan to seek papers that address theoretical, experimental, and work in-progress at the all layers of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks, from application layer to the physical layer. Recently, in the area of wireless networks, it has been shown that simplistic models for mobility, traffic, and signal propagation yield results that are too optimistic. In order to provide more credible models, traces from specific scenarios need to be acquired and then realistic scenario models need to be developed and validated. We solicit papers on mobility, traffic, propagation, and scenario modelling for various wireless networks including MANETs, DTNs and vehicular networks. Papers on trace measurement architectures and trace characterizations of wireless networks are also welcome. The main purpose of this workshop is to promote further research interests and activities on scenario modelling of wireless networks. It is also aimed at increasing the synergy between academic and industrial researchers working in this area. We are interested in experimental, systems-related, theoretical, and work-in-progress papers in all aspects of wireless network scenarios. The topics of interest include (but are not limited to): * Classification of scenarios * Challenges in trace acquisition * Tools for mobility, traffic and propagation modelling * Methods in localization and tracking to acquire accurate movement traces * Movement trace measurement architectures * Characterization of movement traces * Mobility modelling * Validation of mobility models * Traffic measurement, traffic characterization, traffic modelling * Combined mobility and traffic modelling * Characterization of signal propagation * Propagation modelling * Impact of mobility on radio characterization * Impact of scenario modelling on performance Authors are invited to submit full papers and work-in-progress papers for presentation at the workshop. Papers (no more than 8 camera-ready pages in ACM conference proceedings format) should describe original, previously unpublished work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or journal. Substantial research efforts have contributed to the success of P2P paradigms in the wired network environments. As broadband wireless connections (e.g., WLAN, WiMAX, 3G, 3.5G, and emerging 4G) become affordable and popular, mobile users now have increasing interests to participate in P2P services anywhere, anytime through their handheld devices. The special characteristics of wireless mobile environment such as highly variable connectivity, energy and resource sensitivity, and communication asymmetry render new challenges, problems and issues for research in mobile P2P computing. The techniques developed for the wired P2P networks may not be applied directly in such environments. New derivatives or modification to present P2P data dissemination and management strategies are required. As a result, research works should propose promising solutions that enable efficient and reliable mobile P2P information services in the province of mobile P2P computing. Workshop Goals ============== Mobile P2P is a cross cutting area as it crosses communications, networking, information dissemination, databases, and security. The main goal of the workshop is to gather scientists from these areas together to foster the collaboration among such interdisciplinary areas and sparkle discussion on open topics related to mobile P2P.
