INNOVATIONS IN NGN - FUTURE NETWORK AND SERVICES AN ITU-T KALEIDOSCOPE EVENT First Call for Papers <http://itu.int/ITU-T/uni/kaleidoscope> Innovations in Next Generation Networks is the first in a series of peer-reviewed academic conferences that aims at increasing the dialogue between academia and experts working on the standardization of information and communications technologies (ICT). By viewing technologies through a Kaleidoscope, these forward looking conferences will also seek to identify new topics for standardization. Arguably no industry undergoes faster changes than the ICT industry. So looking five, ten or more years into the future - What will the network look like? Which services will be offered? How will it affect people's lives? NGN represents one of the most complex transitions ever to have occurred in telecoms. Taking into account new realities in the ICT industry such as the need to converge and optimise operating networks and the extraordinary expansion of digital traffic, NGN will enable a richer set of applications to the end user, as well as allowing operators to benefit from a far simpler architecture and the economies of scale associated with standards. In addition, in NGN, new services can be added far more quickly and easily, without the need to add any new network infrastructure. Objectives Innovations in NGN will bring together new and visionary ideas on the future of NGN. It will highlight technologies, services and applications five years and beyond that will capitalize on the NGN infrastructure and will lead us to the so-called ubiquitous network society in which information can be accessed anywhere, at anytime, by anyone and anything. The event will also cover multidisciplinary aspects related to the deployment of NGN, including analysis of the regulatory and societal challenges that such deployment will bring. Innovations in NGN is to inspire contributions towards a kaleidoscopic view of communication habits for the future. We know what NGN is in terms of the underlying technology, but we don't know what services will emerge, how NGN will affect the marketplace for ICT, and how society will be affected. To this end ITU is issuing this call for papers, a number of topics of interest are suggested below. Audience Innovations in NGN is targeted at all researchers, academics, students, engineers, regulators and thinkers who go "beyond the next quarter". No participation fee will be charged. Date and venue 12-13 May 2008, Geneva, Switzerland. Submission of papers Prospective authors are invited to submit complete, original papers with up to 6000 words including summary and references using the template at the conference website. (The camera-ready version will be limited to a maximum of eight pages). Main themes are suggested below. All papers will be handled electronically and reviewed through a double-blind, peer-review process. Please note that the submission dates for papers are strict deadlines. Nodes in today's challenged networks often include mobile nodes, space-based nodes, sensor/actuator nodes and other devices. Performance of the network paths interconnecting such nodes can be highly varying in terms of bandwidth, latency, disruption characteristics and security requirements. Conventional Internet access in performance-limited environments such as developing countries can also be regarded as challenged networks as can be ad-hoc communication between personal devices. The Internet protocol architecture suffers some problems when used in a challenged network setting. For example, when disconnection and reconnection is common or link performance is highly variable or extreme, one or more of the traditional Internet protocols do not work well. In this workshop following CHANTS 2006 and WDTN 2005, we wish to explore ongoing efforts in dealing with physical networks that operate significantly differently from wired, connected networks and the protocol architectures and algorithms used to deal with such situations. Techniques for making applications tolerant to disruptions and/or high delays are also in scope. In addition to the workshop program consisting presentations and demonstrations, we seek poster presentations discussing recent (possibly early) research results. Poster presentations with accompanying demonstrations are encouraged. Such demo proposals shall present recent practical results from the area of challenged networks. Demo proposals should include one additional page describing the precise setup and requirements. Poster and poster abstracts will be published on the CHANTS 2007 web page. Management gets pervasive and needs to vanish since the networks and systems are vanishing from the users' perception. Users should stay users, not managers of their information and communication platforms and services. Pervasive systems and services require considerations for multi-service and multi-domain environments of heterogeneous technologies, wide range of service offerings, new management strategies, and business models. Pervasive management encompasses provisioning, operation, and maintenance for up-scaled systems and still not bother users and administrator enabling automated management. This broad scope and the distributed nature also call for new approaches to dependability, resilience, quality-of-service, mobility management, and services billing. In particular, these considerations include the combination of wireless and wired (FMC), high and low throughput systems, and small as well as large scale deployments. NOMS 2008 will offer five types of sessions: technical, application, poster, panel, and software tools. Technical sessions will present very high-quality papers on the latest research results in the network operations and management area. Application sessions will present papers focusing on the experience of IT and telecommunications industries, such as service providers, OSS vendors, and equipment manufacturers. The scope here includes customer requirements, management system implementations, and business practices. Poster sessions will provide an insight into work-in-progress. Based on this observation, bio-inspired approaches have been proposed in the past years as a strategy to handle the complexity of such systems. The goal is to obtain methods on how to engineer technical systems, which have similar high stability and efficiency often found in biological entities. The BIONETICS conference aims at bringing together researchers and scientists from several disciplines in computer science and engineering where bio-inspired methods are investigated. For example, future heterogeneous networks will integrate ad hoc and sensor solutions into wired and/or wireless fixed infrastructures. The integration of ad hoc and sensor networks together with the Internet and wireless infrastructure networks increases the network capacity, the coverage area and application domains. The interconnection of these networks must not only ensure the transport traffic between a source and a destination. However, this interconnection must keep on providing a very high quality of service and make various flows safe and secure. Carrying out these challenges requires the modification and/or the adaptation of some protocols. This conference is intended to serve as a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and industry to exchange and discuss their experiences and research results about all aspects of networks. http://www.interlab.ait.ac.th/aintec07/ ASIAN INTERNET ENGINEERING CONFERENCE (AINTEC) 2007 Date: 27-29 November, 2007 Venue: Phuket, Thailand ORGANIZATIONS : intERLab SPONSORS : “Internet for Sustainable Communication” The 3rd Asian Internet Engineering Conference (AINTEC) follows the first two successful editions held in Bangkok, Thailand, and focuses on developing synergies between researchers in Asia, cooperations at the international level and target challenges specific to the Asian environment. AINTEC 2007 will be a major opportunity for presentations and discussions around these objectives. In particular, it aims at addressing issues pertinent to the Asian region with vast diversities of socio-economic and networking conditions while inviting high quality and recent research results from the global international research community to be presented. The conference is single-track and features a technical program with significant opportunities for individual and small-group among a diverse set of participants. The technical sessions will include invited talks by leading experts, presentations of papers, demos, posters and a pre-conference 18th Asian School on Computer Science (25-26 November 2007). In response to the recent natural disaster in Asia, AINTEC'07 main topics concentrate, but are not limited to, the survival of the Internet, opportunistic and autonomic networking in order to provide alternative means of communications in emergency and chaotic situations, as follows: Emergency networks Wireless and Mobile Networks Sensor networks Delay and disruption tolerant networks Location management and positioning Internet over satellite communications Autonomic and Situated communications Opportunistic networking Peer-to-peer and overlay networks New networking protocols and architectures Applications in developing countries Implementation and experimental evaluation of network protocols/applications Network security and deep packet inspection Network support to service oriented architectures Multimedia streaming Wireless and mobile multimedia systems Submitted papers must be original, unpublished, and not have been submitted to another conference or journal for publication. Papers must be submitted in electronic format following the instructions provided on the AINTEC web site and must be less than 15 pages. The conference proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in the LNCS series. Submission of a paper implies that should the paper be accepted for publication in conference proceedings, at least one of the authors will register and present the paper in the conference. Pervasive healthcare is an emerging research discipline, focusing on the development and application of pervasive and ubiquitous computing technology for healthcare and wellness. Pervasive healthcare may be defined from two perspectives. The conference accepts two types of submissions: Full Papers presenting significant contributions to research and practice in different aspects of Pervasive Healthcare (maximum ten pages) and Short Papers presenting late-breaking results and ongoing work (maximum four pages). All submissions must follow ACM's conference style two column format including figures and references. Appropriate links to papers templates will be available from the conference website. Furthermore, early prototyping is an outstanding way to understand real user requirements and help adoption of wireless ad hoc technologies by the mass market. In this view, IEEE MASS solicits demonstrations of mobile ad hoc and sensor systems showing real-systems prototypes at work, thus stimulating discussions among the attendees. Demonstrations from both academia and industry are welcome at most. ********************* HIGHLIGHTS ******************************* * * - Authors of all accepted demos will be invited to provide a * SHORT DEMO PAPER (3 pages) describing the demo features. * Short demo papers will be included in the MASS proceedings. * * - MASS 2007 will grant a "Best Demo Award" based upon both the * technical and innovation contribution. * **************************************************************** Demo proposals must be limited to 3 pages (IEEE conference template, font size no less than 10pt), describing the demo research framework, and what will be shown during the MASS demo session. The combination of increasing network bandwidth and expanding functionality pose continuing and growing challenges for system designers. New technology elements, including network processors, content addressable memories, configurable logic and special-purpose components offer new opportunities for meeting these challenges, but also raise a variety of new issues. ANCS focuses on networking and communication in the broad sense, including novel architectures, architectural support for advanced communications systems, algorithms and protocols for advanced architectures, software and applications for next-generation networking architectures, and methodology and benchmarking for evaluating advanced communication architectures. Our emphasis this year will be on hardware and software elements in the context of systems that enable networks to evolve and scale. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: * System design for future Network Architectures * Network/communications processors * Intelligent co-processors * Router architectures * Emerging Technologies (e.g., optical components, etc.) * Switch fabrics/interconnection networks * Link scheduling, processor/thread scheduling, switch scheduling * Network adapters * Application-specific networks (e.g., SAN, XML Switching) * Programmable /extensible networks * Secure communication * Traffic management * Packet classification * Content inspection and filtering * Energy-efficient designs The PAPER DEADLINE for submissions is July 16, 2007 at 11:59PM PST (US). ANCS will use double-blind reviewing, so submitted papers should not include the authors' names. Paper registration and submission must be done electronically through EDAS (edas.info). Registration, including the abstract, must be completed no later than July 9, 2007 at 11:59PM PDT (US). All papers must be submitted in PDF format on letter-size paper. Submissions must be viewable by Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 5.0 or higher) and should not exceed 10 pages in ACM/SIG conference paper format using 10 pt font. Submissions exceeding the maximum limit will not be reviewed by the program committee. Camera-ready versions of the accepted papers will be required to use the ACM SIG format (www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html). We encourage submissions containing original ideas. Like other conferences, ANCS requires that papers not be submitted simultaneously to any other conferences or publications; that submissions not be previously published; and that accepted papers not be subsequently published elsewhere.
